Wholesale in NoCal went up from $50 to $62 last year, but most are still charging $89. There is a store in San Francisco that charges $169, but he’s an outlier.
I’m buying every ECBP batch I can find. ECPBs getting up to $92 in a lot of places but can find them for $75 every now and then. Just picked up a 10 year 138+ proof ECPB that I’ve heard HH Heritage/BTAC level reviews on from the local group (I’m sure there’s a SLIGHT exaggeration there) but excited to get into that one. Good list, cheers fellas!
I just tried the New Riff 8 yr after taking a break from them. If New Riff can continue to put out something as good as the 8 yr I'll start buying their product again.
ECBP definitely is a good one for the list!! The dialog made me laugh. Yeah they are kind of hit or miss. Well they’ve been bad for a while except for C923 so I’m not totally out. Only one good one in the last few years means hard pass. 😂
I agree with most of these except for the Russel’s Reserve SB… It has been always consistent and balanced between sweetness, nuttiness, and oak. What I really don’t like is the Four Roses, it tastes like syrup added after distillation, I mean just a cheap sweetness flavors that comes out of the SB bottle every time I try it.
I love the Smoke Wagon clear bottle, too. But I've been out on SW for a while. Not because they aren't doing good things, I've just been trying other brands. UNTIL a local store released their store pick. I almost passed, but glad I didn't. It's excellent.
12yo RRSB? I’ve picked 4 of these over the last 3 years and have never had anything over 9 years. That said, we just received the most recent barrels, Tyrone Q/4 and Camp Nelson E/4 the Q had this crazy boysenberry berry syrup on the nose and palate. Also, $115 Four Roses single barrel at the distillery is tourist pricing. Regular store picks are $89 and that’s a reasonable price
A barrel pick of Four Roses is about to be released to our state. I'm on the fence because I like my normal FR single barrel fine but four roses is not my normal jam and I'm not as confident in our state ABC to pick well. At 75 I'm willing to try at 100+ tax. I'm not seeing the huge value when I can grab a high Rye bare knuckle for half the price.
The first Russell's Private Barrell I got was amazing, with a very rich peanut flavor which I usually don't like. The second wasn't that special. Now the third I just found (for $65!) was so good I went back for the last bottle they had but sadly it was gone already.
Quality has dropped with most brands. Too many people buying too much bourbon and not enough to go around, so the quality overall is dropping to meet the demand. Hopefully that will result in the demand dropping and that will lead to the quality headed back up. I am not holding my breath though.
Would it be a big ask to add pricing into this discussion? I saw an OF BP for the first time ever last week and passed at $110. I try to keep purchases $80 and below with an occasional splurge mixed in (WT101 12 year was a recent splurge when driving through Louisville). Hearing the price range where you guys are buying would add helpful context for me if possible
Understand that some of these are hard to find but in this video we talk about even if you do find them are they worth buying. It's not really about if it is findable or not. Also every market is a little different and they are just more available in KY so we see them more often.
@@bourbonkingdom Oh, sure ... just an observation on the availability nowadays, which is absolutely different than it was just a couple of years ago. I'm sure its at least partially due to the amazing rise in the popularity of bourbon in general.
@@nickleone7444yeah most of their videos are because their everyday selections are so much better than everyone else’s. They live in KY and have connections so stuff like this is just normal for them.
so wierd sometimes after checking through when i render the videos down, it will erase our bottle title and stuff. It is stupid, thanks for the catch though.
I will probably always buy an OESO under 100. All of the others, it depends on age, proof and color. I just got a JN66 OESQ from the distillery and that thing is a monster. I never was a fan of the old forester bs sibs. Way too hot and flavorless.
I dont think there was anything on this entire list that i would buy, for one reason or another. It is a very hard sell to me that any whiskey is worth more than $100. For the bottles on the list under that price, they just dont make me excited, and some just dont fit my pallete. Lastly, i wouldnt even take a free sample of 4 Roses, but, i must admit that i will always have 1 bottle of the SiB on my shelf mainly because i won't ever open it again.
So 90% of your bourbons, you wouldn't buy again. So why are we watching your channel for your expertise? Could we go back a few years and watch you sing praises of all the bottles you basically $hit on today? Will you be doing the same with the "must have bottles" you're recommending now in 2 or 3 years time? Ugh.
Wddo - nope Russells private picks - yes only if i can sample Ecbp - depends Bardstown discovery - with sample only 4🌹 sbbs - yes especially if i don’t have the recipe
I totally agree about the Four Roses, just too much of a price hike, because in Ohio it went from 75 to 100$

store picjs should always be available to try.

I appreciate your output. Always doing good reviews. They’re never stale and I learn something every time. Thank you Guys
Much appreciated!

Grab those Smoke Wagon barrel selects.... ive had three different batches and they are heads and shoulders better than the Uncut, Unfiltered.

The Russel’s has a heck of a mark up at some stores.
I'd like to try a Four Roses barrel strength but I don't even consider buying it since they're like $150 when I see them.
NH state liquor stores have a 4 roses sb store pick for $70 right now. Couldn’t believe it. 😂
The quality of the juice in the Smoke Wagon UCUF has diminished greatly in the last 2 years for sure. Their initial stuff was INCREDIBLE.

Good stuff

4R SBBS are nearly unicorns around here. I feel fortunate when I'm able to grab one.
I feel like this episode was a little tone deaf
Same here ... five years ago I could go out and find one any time I wanted. Now I never see them.

"Name/Description" left on the four gate b-role. LOL

4🌹 sbbs at distillery is 105 after tax. If they go up I’m out
More stores need to do the 100 proof
Elijah Craig BP A124 is hella good IMO..
I want b523 I’ll trade c923 all day!!,!

Russell’s Private Select slaps OF SBBS all. Day. Long.
Didn’t you all just say a few videos ago you all were done with the woodford distillery stuff but then bought this? 🤨
This was bought probably over a year ago to be fair.
But that’s the new label though….
Old Carter - in or out?
Try before you buy I would say at this point.
Depends.....Is it worth crapping your pants for?
So 90% of your bourbons, you wouldn't buy again.
