Penta 120S Saildrive How the Inner Gear Selector Operates

hi, I have same problem, the dog goes forward and backward inside the pulley of the cone. Is it normal or the cone is gone? My saildrive is a '97 volvo penta 120 S - D. Thanks in advance. Francesco from Italy
