The 13" 'MacBook Pro' should honestly simply be called 'MacBook' in my opinion. It's not pro enough to be called a "Pro". And calling it simply 'MacBook' will also make the lineup look good.
Waited for so long for M2 Air, but the slower SSD plus a required RAM upgrade makes it price equal 14.2 Pro. And 14.2 Pro has a better screen, a better sound system and a more powerful silicon. Is this Apple's evil plan to sell more Pro Macs?

I was under the dilemma of choosing between the M1 MBA vs 14 inch MBP M1 Pro. If you're just getting the 14MBP just for the display and ports, I would not recommend it. The price difference is quite significant, unless you're getting 512 GB and 16GB RAM. 99% of users aren't even going to use the full power of the M1, let alone the M1 Pro or M1 Max. M1 Pro and Max are for those who do video editing mainly. For the price difference, you can pick up a refurbished Galaxy Tab S7 plus or S8 plus which have AMOLED displays and 120Hz refresh rates which look better than the 14 MBP display. Or get a refurbished iPad with the same display as the 14 MBP.

I'm Italian and I bought the M1 Air a few days ago, on sale on Amazon for 1108€. It's quite sad, but these channels always consider only the American prices and there really isn't a European counterpart. Outside US territory, buying Apple products is mostly a matter of budget, since the already high $ price is inflated by taxes, export costs, marketing costs and so on. The new M2 Air starts at 1500€, I mean... it's just too damn high. The M1 Air is on sale at 1100 just because Apple Education sells it for 1200€ and it really is the only option for a student. (please don't come here with the hate comments saying stuff like "no one is forcing you to buy a Mac", because it is obvious that if you can't afford one, you should just buy a windows pc.) I had been considering a refurbished M1 MacBook Pro, but in the end I settled for the Air since you can't pay in instalments through the Apple Store, but the Air is sold by Amazon with 5 instalments with no interests. And I have two part-time jobs. So yeah... American prices are just something else, from my perspective.
Don't worry about the prices, the Americans pay taxes as well. But as each and every state has it's own VAT and sales tax, the prices are quoted net. To be fair, our European VAT at around 20% is quite a lot higher than in the USA, but you can't blame Apple for that.
It’s sad to say it but Europe’s economy especially Italy is quite weak. My father is Italian and I live in australia . My savings is more than his net worth and house . My house is 1.6m and his is like 70 thousand . I thought apple would make products cheaper there
@@colbyzurlini8740 Europe is actually fine. Italy has a huge salary problem. While inflation and taxation have increased over the past few decades, salaries haven’t. Choosing the right MacBook can be a daunting task, especially when there are so many options available. It's important to take a variety of factors into consideration, such as processing power, display quality, and battery life. This video does an excellent job of breaking down the pros and cons of different MacBook models, which can be incredibly helpful for anyone in the market for a new laptop ;)
I decided to go with an M2 Air 10c 16GB 512GB model from Apples Refurbished store for $1,376 with my Military Discount. After weeks of anguishing between it and the 13" M2 Pro for the same price I decided to pull the trigger. If it doesnt handle basic gaming well I will get the M2 Pro.
M1 Air, at $850, is more than good enough for almost everybody, and is an incredible bargain at that price. Email, Internet, and office apps run more than fast enough, and 8GB RAM is more than enough to handle all of that, even with multitasking. The M2 has a nicer camera, and a new color, and is marginally faster, but the additions are not worth the cost. If you're doing video editing, then you have to pick your way through the various MBP models.
I think I prematurely bought the 13 pro M2 13”. I wanted a laptop for college and didn’t do my research until after. Idk if it was a mistake or not getting it. I think my reason for getting it was it was slightly cheaper compared to the air due to the sale.

When Jobs came back to Apple, he found the Pepsi guy had complicated the line-up of products, and needed to cull some products. Maybe the current laptop line-up would benefit from some radical culling, like back then. For most everyday people and the average college student, the M1 MBA base is a hell of a deal at $800. I just got one for writing and it performs much better than the previous Intel version. But if you do creative content too, the new m2 version would probably be better. But like I said for the everyday user, the base m1 air is a steal at $800.
It really is about skipping the M2 altogether. The M1 is a far better value and a better base computer than the base M2, and if you are going up in performance then the base 14" MacBook Pro is also the far better value and far more powerful.
How do I know which one fits me the best? I’m looking for a MacBook that I can use for word/PowerPoint, email, Facebook… basically small tasks. I do not need the newest one but idk which one to get

I mean the real question "for most people" is like: Can it sustain longer workloads for students/professionals that send emails all the time and work with PPT/Excel/word? I mean if the MBA handles this than it's probably the best option for 99% of people.

i went with 14 1tb because 512 gb has the same problem of 256 on the Air, the base models cost less because it's the entry price for Apple but they are also slightly worse in other aspects. It has always been so.
It could be that theyˋre launching them in the end of this year, but I think it will be next year (spring/WWDC). If these MacBooks will have major upgrades, they might even come at the end of next year.
Mark Gurman had a rather useless prediction that the M2 MBP 14” and 16” will be out sometime between Fall 2022 and Spring 2023, a huge nine month span. I could have guessed that, but the real answer is no one knows who isn’t an Apple employee or supplier.
How many regular people buy MacBooks and do video editing, etc. It seems like it’s a thing more so for UA-camrs than the large majority of the customers. Most people use them for spread sheets etc., internet surfing, video calls and UA-cam watching. Unless you’re in a small group that is a hardcore user it seems like many people worry way too much and go overkill with the pro models. Most people just want a nice, convenient computer that is trouble free and fast for multitasking basic tasks and videos.

I was impressed with the speakers too, clearer and louder than i expected. I cant imagine carrying a heavier or bulkier laptop.
I wish apple made a 16" Air because I am the lightest user ever (streaming content & ms office only) but I guess I will go for 16" MacBook Pro just for the best display and great speakers!
The MBP 13 should not even be called a pro. No 120hz display, no XDR, no extra ports, worse camera, worse cooling, slower SSD, stereo speakers (compared to 6 speakers in the 14 pro). It's just a very pathetic specification overall. The smart choice is either get the M2 air or the M1 pro 14. I cancelled my spec'd up M2 air and got the M1 pro 14 for about the same price and I'm super happy. I still would have been happy to keep the midnight M2 air tho.
Some things I would like to see in the MBP 16 before I would purchase, it is a SOC where Ray Tracing acceleration is within the SOC and HDMI 2.1. Would love to use it as one for everything device, I would also take just 4h of battery if it could handle RTX 3070 OptiX performance in Blender or similar. Bonus would be Face ID. Another bonus would be doubling the amount of diming zones for the Mini-LED display. Once they fix these things it would be even a no brainer for 4-5k.
How about for someone who will use it for video editing? Nothing crazy, mostly 1080p, some 4K, no color grading I’m looking at M1 air for $800 and M2 air for $1000. Worth it to spend $200 more for the newest model? Will it give a better editing experience?

Congrats on 1 millions subs! For a year now you have continued to reaffirm the best one in the lineup for $$$ & features, which is the base 16'' Pro. I don't see this changing for quite sometime, possibly until the next design refresh, as spec bumps are not going to be exciting, especially when we consider power/fan noise/battery life. My fan went on a total of 7 times in a month, never heard it once, and I'm positive I put it through its paces on 4k editing from an a7siii! The nice thing is, that the m1 air could also handle that timeline, so as you said winners at the entry point and the higher end base as well! Great job Max Tech, and Apple, and congrats again, well deserved on 1 million!
I think macs seems to have become a little better now over the last few years now but i can still see that they still haven't sorted out many of the issues. if i would choose between a Lenovo or a mac for free I would always go for a mac. I expect defects on a Lenovo from day 1 and on macs sometimes it is possible for defects much later on. As for repairability, I think earlier macs are easier to repair as the newer ones are harder to get into.

No one should buy the M2 Pro in my opinion, it doesn't have enough going for it vs the M2 Air for the extra price, and the 14" MBP is a way better machine if you need the power/want the better features.
I’m thinking about buying a MBP 14 because BestBuy has it for $1600. I know Apple will probably mark up the New MBP 14 $200 more like the Air. So, should I wait for the M2 Pro chip or should I save almost $600 an get the old chip?
Don't hesitate. I didn't and I am loving this machine. I am a student in college and bought the 14" for approximately $1700 with taxes from best buy. I don't know how often this type of deal comes up but don't miss it! Least you can do is buy it, try it out and if you don't like it, just return it
Meh. I still like my purchase last month of a new M1 MBP 13in from eBay for 1300, with a 16/512 configuration . Still a savings of 400$ over the M2’s with the same configuration without the education discount. Max techs earlier videos about the M2 in June influenced me to dodge the M2 because of the thermal and ssd issues. I still don’t feel I made a mistake. The M2 doesn’t have major advantages over the M1 13’s. The M2 STILL has thunderbolt 3 ports just like mine. The 1080p webcam of the M2 air is NOT an advantage and should always be put in the context of the upcoming software update bringing continuity camera. My M1 has 500 nits of brightness too AND I actually enjoy the Touch Bar.

IMHO, if you are just using the computer for basic computing, then you should get the base M2 Air. If you need any more performance than that, get the 14” pro. I have been using a 14” pro as my main laptop for working on a college campus since the end of January. I use the extra portability over the 16” pro and the built in HDMI port daily. Not having to use a dongle to connect to a projector when giving a presentation is just a life saver. A dongle is simply one more thing that could potentially go wrong so spending more on the 14” to get it was worth it.

so the base model with 256 gb should be fine?
@@eric-ye9cf yes. If you're a video editor or a programmer, get the 14". Otherwise, MBA M2 is perfect for you. If you copy and move huge 2GB+ files daily, then you need the 512 SSD but if you dont, the 256 is fine as well.
The 13" 'MacBook Pro' should honestly simply be called 'MacBook' in my opinion. It's not pro enough to be called a "Pro". And calling it simply 'MacBook' will also make the lineup look good.
Funny how the MBA Air M1 is now only for light users, when back in the day they recommended it for video editing etc 😂 just shows how silly it is
exactly
trueeeeee
Waited for so long for M2 Air, but the slower SSD plus a required RAM upgrade makes it price equal 14.2 Pro. And 14.2 Pro has a better screen, a better sound system and a more powerful silicon. Is this Apple's evil plan to sell more Pro Macs?
What a nonsense! Where did you find the same price for the upgraded Air comparing to the Pro? They’re at least $300 away!
In my opinion, everything is base on the budget, if you want M2, just upgrade to 512.😁. After two weeks I used M2 MacBook Pro(8+256). The battery performance is really great. And I think it's a great solution about the storage, I've built my own NAS(raspberry Pi4 + 2TB HD). This additional devices spend about(700HKD+300HKD ~ 128USD). The transfer speed it's not that bad, it is around 80MB/s
it's bad to wait for 80mb/s
M1 air - Most people should get it
M2 air - some people should get it
M2 Pro - No one should get it
14 inch - some people should get it
16 inch - Very few people should get it
Loving this!
Would you be generous enough to give me your opinion on which one would be best for using with synthesisers. I have ordered 5he MacBook Pro 13 inch M2 . But realising this is possibly not my best option. My budget is £1500. I know I’m being a bit cheeky but want to make 5he right choice and you don’t get if you don’t ask. Thanks for reading and any recommendations.
I think the new M2 MacBooks are very good because they are very basic but if you want to try some video editing they have the Media Engines where the basic M1 chip is lacking. If I could decide I would go with the M2 Air because of that cool design and the good performance.
I went with the 14 because the m2 was for me but when i upgraded the specs made sense to go with the pro

(please don't come here with the hate comments saying stuff like "no one is forcing you to buy a Mac", because it is obvious that if you can't afford one, you should just buy a windows pc.)
I had been considering a refurbished M1 MacBook Pro, but in the end I settled for the Air since you can't pay in instalments through the Apple Store, but the Air is sold by Amazon with 5 instalments with no interests. And I have two part-time jobs. So yeah... American prices are just something else, from my perspective.
Little European cry more
Don't worry about the prices, the Americans pay taxes as well. But as each and every state has it's own VAT and sales tax, the prices are quoted net. To be fair, our European VAT at around 20% is quite a lot higher than in the USA, but you can't blame Apple for that.
I agree, bought last week new MBA M1 with 16GB for 1250 euros, the new M2 base model cost 1510 euros, so for me it was mutch better deal
Therefore the spending power has lowered and now we have a huge problem to fix. Thankfully, being in the EU helps. You can easily find work abroad and move there.
I would like to say, that we have the consumer and the pro categories, the 14” and 16” feels like the actual ”pro” models, or the pro pro. The m2 macs right now are more of an entry level mac
Sounds like a chatgpt response
I decided to go with an M2 Air 10c 16GB 512GB model from Apples Refurbished store for $1,376 with my Military Discount. After weeks of anguishing between it and the 13" M2 Pro for the same price I decided to pull the trigger. If it doesnt handle basic gaming well I will get the M2 Pro.
How’s it going for you so far?
M1 Air, at $850, is more than good enough for almost everybody, and is an incredible bargain at that price. Email, Internet, and office apps run more than fast enough, and 8GB RAM is more than enough to handle all of that, even with multitasking. The M2 has a nicer camera, and a new color, and is marginally faster, but the additions are not worth the cost.
If you're doing video editing, then you have to pick your way through the various MBP models.
Incredible bargain lol.
I think I prematurely bought the 13 pro M2 13”. I wanted a laptop for college and didn’t do my research until after. Idk if it was a mistake or not getting it. I think my reason for getting it was it was slightly cheaper compared to the air due to the sale.

Maybe the current laptop line-up would benefit from some radical culling, like back then. I, for one, am confused enough that I am not
buying a new laptop (which I had planned in 2022) and continue to use my -still fantastic- 2013 MBP.

Please, where do you got it at this price?
@Christopher No doubt M1 Air, don’t waste your money for thing that you won’t use or need.
@@forphs4495that’s what I said! One question I just going to buy a MacBook Air 2019 with 83% battery porcent for 320$- u think is a steal ?
It really is about skipping the M2 altogether. The M1 is a far better value and a better base computer than the base M2, and if you are going up in performance then the base 14" MacBook Pro is also the far better value and far more powerful.
How do I know which one fits me the best?
I’m looking for a MacBook that I can use for word/PowerPoint, email, Facebook… basically small tasks.

I still use the 2017 macbook air. Battery died last year, so i put in a new one. 6 year old machine, but still doing it's job. When it dies..i may want to take a look at the M-series macbooks..but for now, i am a happy camper.
I mean the real question "for most people" is like: Can it sustain longer workloads for students/professionals that send emails all the time and work with PPT/Excel/word? I mean if the MBA handles this than it's probably the best option for 99% of people.
The macbook pro was a complete turn off for me in terms of thickness and portability. I rather buy a top spec macbook air for that reason.
the macbook pro is even thinner than the previous pro models if im not mistaken
@@bodigames I had both in hands at the apple store and the difference between the m2 air vs m1 pro was quite massive, but some people don't mind the wrist pain I suppose

I'm on the fence about whether to wait for the M2 Pro 14/16" Macbook Pro refresh. Any guesses whether they're more likely to be out this fall or 2023?
It could be that theyˋre launching them in the end of this year, but I think it will be next year (spring/WWDC). If these MacBooks will have major upgrades, they might even come at the end of next year.
@Ali Nemati Thank you for the very specific release date. That’s exactly what I was looking for 😜
Mark Gurman had a rather useless prediction that the M2 MBP 14” and 16” will be out sometime between Fall 2022 and Spring 2023, a huge nine month span. I could have guessed that, but the real answer is no one knows who isn’t an Apple employee or supplier.
Usually they only replace there laptops after 2 years so I'd guess late 2023
Same bc if I purchase one rn and in the fall they come out with the new m2 pro I’d be punching air 😭
Most people just want a nice, convenient computer that is trouble free and fast for multitasking basic tasks and videos.

imo, best value is m1 air, more power goes to base m1 14 pro, the most power is obviously the m1 pro max 16.
Even with you explaining the differences, this got confusing which ones you were referring to from point to point
How about for someone who will use it for video editing? Nothing crazy, mostly 1080p, some 4K, no color grading

Im going to wait to see if the next set of chips both pro and non pro come in 3nm because that could be a significant enough upgrade in battery life which is amazing

M1 Air works fine for most people, try to get it with 16GB if you can; 14 inch Pro or 16 inch Pro depending on display size one prefers. Done.

For me, leftover stock/open box/refurbished base 14” M1 Pro for $500+ off.
