Wow! These computers are really powerhouses! The scaling on the M2 and it’s decoders make a big difference for video editing. Thanks and congrats to the winners!
Great video! For the next comparison like this, it would also be nice to see the results of the earlier models to see how much of a gap there is between generations. Thank you for your amazing work guys!
@@luxurybuzz3681 because you pay for maximum performance, but you get throttling in results you don't have the performance you could have if instead you bought 16" version :)
Great review, only thing that bugged me as an actual editor is that the 8k to 4K output test with a 1min difference is huge. Maybe not for a single video to UA-cam for most but if I have to export 100 sequences at once with a 1min difference then thats 1hr40min faster. That’s a significant amount of time when deadlines need to be met
This channel is great, shows all the best benchmarks and devices in all of the important ways and tests thoroughly with an honest opinion. Really helps when making a high value purchase. Keep it up Max love the vids 👍🏼
this was another particularly interesting one for me. with 1TB and 32GB RAM being standard on the MAX, i figured the upgrade would make sense, since i consider those essential upgrades and the price difference isn't that big after those changes. i was just concerned about the MAX being inadequately engineered and showing major cooling problems. ,beyond the thorough and direct comparisons that put everything into mensurable perspective, its very interesting to hear about some of the hidden differences like the high power mode too, even if that doesn't seem to perform as expected. i was very curious and concerned about temps and throttling on the MAX but the behaviour seems to be acceptable. GPU scaling is great giving a much higher ceiling when needed, and even simultaneous CPUGPU load performance is decently balanced. i still imagine that there will be much more dramatic issues with the 14" even though it has a few GPU cores less, but that is probably the final comparison that i am really looking forward to before making my decision. i already suspected as much based on last years models and M2 SSDGate but as your coverage revealed more and more details, i still feel like 14" 1TB+ SSD M2 PRO and 16" M2 MAX are the only really sensible entry points, going up from there if more RAM and storage is needed. that does shift the price bracket of this generation up quite considerably, but they are still quite attractive and land well in relation to their other devices. its just frustrating, deceptive and dishonest to offer all the options below which are inferior and inadequate in very sly, hidden ways beyond the obvious spec choices, and i'm very angry and distrustful of apple for that. apple can't be trusted to 'always make a good product' anymore, with some glaring flaws slipping through their standards in the last years. still incredible stuff to be sure but you have to look more closely. praise be for your coverage!
I Made the right decision and saved almost 1000 bucks going for the Pro chip (with the 1tb storage). Your videos are always there to answer every question we may have about our macines. Love your channel!

Thank you so much for these fast but super detailed reviews! I'm considering the change from my macbook pro 15 of 2015 to the new 16" with M1 Pro 🥺. Greetings from Italy 🇮🇹
Wow! Guys your are some kind of a machine!!!! Unbelievable how you manage to put one video a day!!! And with quality! Your are helping so many to not waste their money! 👏🏻👏🏻
Considering a spike in GPU performance, I would love to see some heavy gaming performance or machine learning programs. Something with massive GPU usage. Thank you always for such in-depth reviews!
I would still like to see some updated video tests that are not just centered around export times. Exporting is only one very small part of the editing process. Most of why we tend to want more horsepower is for the system to play back more of what we might do without dropping frames. We should have tests with complex stacks of filters or GPU effects and how well they play back before the system chokes. Kind of like the Logic test where we see how many tracks it can handle. We need better tests to show us how well these systems perform while actually editing.
That would be interesting to compare the M1 max vs M2 PRO, since the refurbished prices are pretty good right now Thanks for those videos they are really helpful, love your videos guys
Battery life depending on what you’re doing certain things will make it run hotter sooner like games from arcade which need more graphics than basic card game like tomb raider or 2k sports which in arcade and actual App Store. If use Mac running 3rd party application for gaming like Plarium play will kill battery within 4hrs min maybe sooner haven’t put it to test yet.
Great channel. Your videos have been very helpful to me. I’ve been planning to save for one of these (back to college as a late thirties mom) and this video was really helpful so thank you. Would still like to see a shoot out between the last Intel Macs and the latest Silicon Macs. A lot of people want to see a side by side comparison… not many people have any understanding of the Apple Silicon machines. Steve Jobs was great at showing the before and after evolution of the product. Since Apple has gotten away from this… it would be nice to see someone bring that back to the table. I would suggest having graphic designers, animators, video editors, sound editors brought on to the show to show the shoot outs… Intel Macs vs Silicon Macs. Would like to see more processor / graphic card tests shown… more day to day stuff that people are doing… Photoshop, 3D rendering / modeling, video editing / rendering, sound editing and animation.
I believe that the M2 Max is an overkill for most users. But its a handy macbook to make sure that all bases are covered. The SSD's on the entry level M2's is a bummer thou.
I don't think it's worth upgrading. Also considering that it heats up way more, and only in some instances the M2 is considerably faster than the M1, not really worth an upgrade if you have an m1 already. Waiting for the M3 and 3nm if it comes out that way, or possibly even waiting the M4 if necessary. But you guys have a great channel, apart of putting everything very organized, the info is worth gold
Actually m2 pro is also very good machine even for gpu based tasks. But yes if you are professional who knows for what he is paying for m2 max, then upgrade definitely worth it.
Could you make a test comparison between 2 identical MacBooks, one with default fan tuning, the other with custom fan tuning (making the fans turn on earlier, but still quiet)
I have a base mini m1 and it's perfect for product managers stuff, I would like to upgrade not for m2, I would do it for more ram and ssd, the improvements on cpu are just a plus. I'm in love with mini m2pro, it's a perfect balance
Interesting. High power mode didn't do anything with the clock speeds on the m1 max. All it did was release the cap on the fans at about 3500 rpm and let them ramp up all the way to their max at like 5000 rpm. Wonder if it's the same story here with the fans.
The big issue i'm seeing in the Pro vs Max reviews is battery life. the higher power draw suggests the same issue will occur. ~16hrs normal usage for the prod models, with 10 hours for the max version.
I would really want a newer MacBook for my school film project, right now I’m working with a old 13 inch 2016 Intel MacBook Pro, and it really struggles in video editing, I would really want to use the way better performance of the new MacBooks and Mac mini!
I’m hoping to win the new MacBook since my 13” pro’s LCD display was damaged and shows horizontal green lines when I use it. I dock it when I’m at home but it’s annoying when I have to use the device itself when I’m out and about. cheers!
You guys need to add testing for resolve video editing. Faster Export is great but if the M2 Max makes editing RAW footage with effects possible with full frame rate play back that is a huge win.
