Fashion Trends To Avoid in 2024 | What NOT To Wear
Now, I'm a huge supporter of wearing whatever the heck you want and there are no hard and fast rules to fashion, but I'd say there are certainly ~guidelines~ you can follow if you want your clothes to last longer. So, in today's video I've decided to take a deep dive into some of the biggest fashion trends of 2023 and which of those I think are not worth holding onto past December 2023. Of course if you LOVE these fashion trends then please go forth and wear them but my guess is these trends simply won't hold up past this year. What do you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
Thanks so much for watching and I'll see you in the next video.

I personally think all those trends exist mainly in social media. I honestly haven't seen a single Barbie in my city, no-one was wearing those micro bags etc. So I feel like the major shift will be felt by all those people making photos of themselves wearing clothes 😊

For the most part. Obviously they influence what's in stores and on the street, but it's very diluted. I think people are not crazy enough to throw away things they just purchased, like if they purchased a lug soled boot, or a midi skirt, or whatever just because trends are done. If that was true, you could never keep anything more than one year. People are already kind of done with the "quiet luxury" thing a bit. Just wear what is appropriate.

Lug soled boots are things people wear every winter. No one is going to stop wearing them, and these trends just come and go so fast, no one is going to throw away 500 dollar leather boots after buying them. This reminds me of when we were told ankle boots were done. Or we keep being told round toed boots are done... then we were told that knee high boots were done, then we were told over the knee boots were done and none of it is ever true. And people are going to wear midi skirts and maxi ones. Just like they will wear low rise and high rise. I expect skinny jeans will come back.....it's all how you style things really.

I agree on all of these, but I won’t be giving up my midi or mini skirts and (slightly) chunky boots. When these came back in, I already had several perfect pairs from the previous time they were trending, early 2000s?, so I didn’t buy any new ones. At age 63, I’ve learned to not buy super-trendy items, knowing they will quickly look dated. I’m so glad those oversized blazers are going out, this trend prevented me from finding any blazer I liked enough to buy for five years or so. I knew they wouldn’t work on petite me and never much liked the way they looked on others, either. This autumn, I’ve finally found some high-quality classic-cut blazers and coats, so I’ve been buying. I hope the solid red coat I bought yesterday qualifies as “interesting outerwear”, I already have a full collection of great wool overcoats in neutrals.

People are tired of chasing the trends, especially people that have the money to buy good quality things. They’re not gonna waste hard earned cash on something that’s going to be out in a season or two’ I’m hoping and praying the elevated basics and classic styling will stay in for a long time. It always has with me. I see some of these iinfluencers over the past year wearing blazers that look like they would fit their fathers I never think that’s a flattering look. I also think it would be foolish to invest in a flamboyant outdoor coat. If you do not possess a classic coat in a color that goes with everything, mainly because this is expensive purchase, and we should not be talked into buying something that may be popular for one season or at most two. Of course if you’re rich, that’s a different story! Lol!

There are ppl who rock them but I just feel insecure (in a way that I might accidentally flash ppl) to wear them 😅. I had the experience last year in Rome wearing a dress made of light weight fabric, when I was walking down the street facing a strong wind, I had everybody find out what underwear I was wearing 🤣. acted like nothing happened but I never wore that dress again. I don't think I'd buy any clothes that I need to constantly check if my body is covered the right way LOL

I disagree on a couple of points! I personally have seen SO MANY sambas on every single influencer that they don’t even look good to me. So basic. Which is a shame, since it’s a legendary shoe, literally. The second one - “interesting outerwear”. No. Just no. I live in a very cold climate, where winter is 4-6 months. Imma stick to my classic (tho I prefer oversized) puffer coats, wool coats, etc. Because these things are expensive and buying something like a red coat, which I will be sick with in a month is not something I can afford.
Aslo conversation around high/mid/lowrise needs to kinda stop alltogether, because it’s just a thing that people prefer. I like to have ALL the options available in stores! Not only highrise or lowrise 😅

I so agree with you. I do live in a cold climate too. But with the crazy outerwear, that will just contribute to the massive waste production in the clothes industry. I cannot see, that this would be worn for more than one season. You’ll get tired of it quickly, it’ll look dated fast even within the one season. It doesn’t lend itself to a lot of different outfits. Here the influencers should take a far more responsible approach. I do like looking at the videos here, but this really disappointed me.
As to sneakers, no one here in Scandinavia was wearing those huge sneakers.
No one wore head to toe pink either. Or those cardigans without anything underneath. Or those mini bags. Not even our teenagers.

I feel this decade will be defined by thriftcore or eco-core the way precious decades are defined, examples the trashy trendy of 2000s or tumbler hibster core for the 2010s,i also think we will see a sharp rise in double texture materials such as leather looking like denim and some materials that look like liquid, structural yet liquid.
Also smart fabrics that can be altered via an app on the phone, weve already seen colour change fabrics coming back, but i feel there will be a real lean towards sci fiction inspired looks, similar to the sci fi influences seen in the late 50s early 60s when the space race, the cold war really had everyone in a grip ❤❤❤

Hi Leonie, always enjoy your videos! So the low rise jeans have not gained momentum ha ha? I wonder why? I think they only look good on younger gals with flat tummies. On everyone else - it’s muffin top time. I hate getting rid of stuff, and had two pairs that lasted really well worn on repeat. However, no problem letting those go. I’m so thrilled higher waists came out and yet more thrilled that darker wash is coming in! I’ve struggled to find any and they are my faves!
I have wool lined lug sole boots (not extreme) and they are a godsend in extreme cold. I only just got my black long coat and I love it! Every one of my jumpers fits underneath. With a tie waist and deep pockets what’s not to love? Keeper. Already got maxi skirts and dresses, so I’ll be super trendy next year without buying more. A maxi dress is great for petites as is a maxi pencil skirt. I got a black denim one and worn it a lot, work, church and going out. Except doing housework. Such a great fit and looks great on petites. I find midi unflattering- it hits at a strange place on my leg, and proportions just don’t look right.

Thanks so much for your kind words! I'm glad you enjoy my videos. And you're right, low rise jeans definitely have their challenges. It's great that higher waists and darker washes are back in style, though. They're much more flattering for most body types!

Designers can try to bring back low rise bottoms all they want. The majority of the population know better. In my opinion, only 6 foot skinny models can get away with them and let’s face it, what percentage of the population has that kind of body?!

I never knew that tie-front cardigans were in fashion. Ive not really seen anybody wearing them either!
And does anybody in real life ever use one of those titchy handbags?
Nooooo! I love an oversized blazer and I'm going to keep wearing them. Even for people that aren't so keen you can always buy a size smaller but at least you get the boxy shape.
With fitted blazers they are always too tight on the shoulders and arms but if you size up then you have a ridiculous amount of fabric on the sides and in the front. And the sleeves never seem to be quite long enough!
The oversized ones are so useful for layering. You can get a long sleeved shirt underneath without the shirt sleeves getting caught up and ruckled. And when it gets really cold you can fit a jumper under them too. And they are much more forgiving if you put on a few pounds.
They are just so much more practical overall.
Interestingly I have seen other influencers say that maxis are going out and midis are coming back!!

I have always loved maxi skirts and around winter 2023, I started buying them as the new ones were coming into the stores and also online. There's one denim style from Free People that I bought in at least four different colors.
As for the color of denim jeans possibly changing, that's why a couple years ago, when I found a style of jeans that were nearly a perfect fit, I bought them in three or four colors and thus will not be affected by the possible change of denim colors. I'll just take out a different color from the stack.
Leonie, do you know the label of that orange plaid coat around 10:31 into the video? I really like that one. Plus, it looks as if it has definition in the waist. I'm glad that colorful coats will be around again. I have quite a few from many years back and will bring them back out.
That light blue cropped Free People vegan leather jacket, #7 on your list, is really cool. And the model is wearing it with the same Free People denim maxi skirt that I mentioned above. I might drop into Free People to check out the jacket. But, I will style it differently.
I'm making a mental note of the different items. It's always great to see photos as it saves time. Plus, when seeing a photo, I can also mentally style a look around the item.
    Thumbs up!
    Greetings from Los Angeles

Wherever they are, I don't know where they are......🤣😂 Totally agree on the mini micro (only fits a charge card) bag. I have small evening bags, but they fit more than what designer had people buying those daytime style. The lug sole boots are a necessity where I live because of snow and ice being common during the winter months and nothing like trying to walk in no tracking moto combat boots. in this kind of weather. Never been big on pink even as a little girl, more a magenta, purplish pink color for me. My men thrifted suits are my loves and for this big boob gal, I will be sticking with them, but I have belted them, and I do have some fitted ones. Midi vs Maxi, I flavor the midi because I consider anything that stop right before the feet or ankle a midi and anything that sweep the floor a maxi (and I not comfortable with wearing them out, because you will have to keep lifting them) not a good running errand or walking about length. Glad sneakers have gone back to the vintage realm because (those are what I stayed with) I not a chunky sneaker style because I use them for activity. I feel with outerwear anything goes because plain will take you to all occasions and is a forever piece, but statement outerwear is refreshing but I would not invest into too many because outerwear tends to be more costly. Not sure if you guys do thanksgiving since the background is in American history, but if so have a good one and ta ta for now.

Don't want to be Debbie Downer here...enjoyed seeing your thoughts on 2024 fashions...that said...I never had any interest in the whole Barbie bandwagon, movie or fashion. Never ever have liked a belted blazer, but I know you just offered that as an option. I do like blazers of all kinds though, and am a real "jacket gal." I like the moderate boyfriend, and whatever shape is most current. Classic blazer always works. I don't like extreme anything, (it's always here and gone as fast as you've doled out cash on it), definitely not those HUGE menswear looks. I feel the same about the "fashiony outerwear"...still much prefer my classics. However, those that like it, have fun with it. I have had "artsy, artisan made" wool coats in the past, I bought at art fairs, that I loved. The older I get, the more classic my wardrobe and tastes get...however, I do love a bit of romance & whimsey thrown in too. The maxi pencil skirts, especially denim...at 5'1"...was not for me. I just really feel the most recent trends, oversized, chunky, huge cargo pants etc...have been some of the least flattering and unfeminine looks that we've seen in a while. And usually extremes are short-lived. Tks for the video!

My favorite purchase this season was a raspberry pink fitted wool blazer; I’ve been looking for the perfect blazer in that color for years. I’ve been playing with different color combinations and the best so far is a pair of very dark green (think deep olive, nearly espresso brown) wide-leg corduroy jeans; dark denim looks great with it, too. In early spring I plan to wear it with grey slacks and with white jeans. I know I’ll be wearing it for many years. Try greens, beiges, taupes, greys, browns, and various denim washes - your eye will tell you if the particular shades/undertones work together.
