Dave Grohl, Corey Taylor, and Matt are probably the most down to earth musicians in the rock genre (ik we said metal community but hey you get the idea)
And as far as sounding like Metallica I can hear it in some of the music but not in the singing. And if someone says you sound like them, then that would be a complement.. If you don;t like them than don't listen. And do people want to listen to your music or talk about your damn ears???
+TheSlackassCrew idk about you but silence in the snow is one of the best ablums they have made its super heavy but utilizes his amazing cleans now hes done vocal training to do his screams again correctly so expect the next cd to have the screams back.
Every time I see an interview with Matt Heafy he just seems like the nicest most genuine guy you could ever meet. He also takes criticism and hate so well...it just bounces right off his back. I also love how he just has his opinion and sticks by it but respects your right to have yours. I think he should get the title "nicest guy in metal" like how Dave Grohl is called the "nicest guy in rock". But seriously though, I'm a new fan of Trivium, just discovered the band a couple of moths ago, and definitely glad to be a part of the fandom...
Nice to meet a long time fan...he's such an awesome guitarist (I play guitar too), singer ( I also sing) and it seems like he's just a really chill guy
+TRIVIUT Agreed. Especially the ones who spend too much on the keyboard. They'll try to seem intelligent by writing over-detailed essays and using highly-advance vocabulary in a desperate attempt to make themselves look sophisticated. Don't be fooled, they're actually dumber than they present themselves to be.
... And plus, Heavy Metal can be negative, at times, since its' theme is fixated on darkness. So it makes sense why it attracts so many nerds and outcast dinguses with low self esteem issues.
I still don't understand the "Trivium is a Metallica clone" idiom. I don't recall them ever sounding like Metallica. Also, Five Finger Death Punch is the metal Nickelback.
The vocal style is the similar but that's about it. Some of the songs on the Crusade have breakdown parts, guitar solos use more than just the pentatonic scale silliness, they play in keys other than just e minor, etc. In fact I've found that the more you listen to The Crusade, it begins to sound more and more different than Metallica.
Seriously Matt, fuck the haters. It only matters if you (and the fans) care, and we dont. Every great band grows in one way or another and the sound changes with it. People need to not be so narrow minded. P.S. I have diabetes, and it blows big giant cocks.
I came across this by accident and glad I did. Matt, your responses were nothing but professional and humorous. I cant say as I have ever watched a band answer tweets or emails on here and this was enjoyable.
Just keep doing what you guys are doing, forget the haters and mean feedback. love to see u guys back in Pensacola FL seen ya last time at the Vinyl Lounge
Ascendancy got me back on to metal after years of bad metal and rap metal. and i love how they change music over the albums. i often find i get that dread-relief feeling when i listen to a new album. ascendancy and ember to inferno heavily influence my own guitar style
I actually have respect for each Trivium album. Crusade is actually in my top three from Trivium. Keep on playing what you guys want Matt and I'll keep on buying.
I respect the your decisions to change within each and every album. I enjoy how different they are and how cool they are in their own way. Some sound more thrashy, some sound more metal-core, but they all sound pretty heavy to me with excellent instrumentation. You don't need to scream in every song to sound heavy, in my opinion.
I must say, I hated silence in the snow when it came out and its still not an album i put on, and have been one of the first to complain when they gave up screaming both times, but i have noticed listening to older albums then listening to some of the newer stuff and realize there is something for every mood... I officially grown to appreciate most of their sounds!
I love trivium. I don't like the last 2 albums that much but i'm not going to hate them when they have lik 4 awesome ones. And they deserve a place on my heart just for Shogun alone so... P.S: I miss Travis btw xD
Trivium has a way of making you miss the last album before their new one every time since Shogun, which is a compliment and insult unto itself. After all is said and done I have to stand by IW, VF, and SITS... really stuff to enjoy in all 3 albums, even though nothing might ever strike the same Chord that Shogun did. Funny how crazy of an impact that album had across the world.
Matt is an absolute legend, as is Trivium.. I luv evey album they have made.. He is such a good sport the way he handles the shit they get from mean jealous assholes who are useless, and probably haven't even achieved 1/100th of anything these guys have...and as the saying goes, If you don't have anything nice to say then shut ya trap!
Got to hang out with Trivium and In Flames in Winnipeg at a bar after their show. Nicest set of dude I've met, just chilled out and were downright friendly
Let me make it clear Matt you don't have to scream to make your music sound heavy" Vengeance Falls" had little screaming and its an awesome heavy album. Look at Avenged Sevenfold Matt Shadows didn't like screaming seeing from the band's first two albums he wanted to sing and still to this day all their albums are heavy with NO screaming. Matt to me you will always make great heavy music cool riffs, guitar melody you guys are epic I love silence in the snow it was something new and refreshing and for that I love it. You guys keep making new sound music and keep laughing at the stupid haters. So any ideas for the next album?
the fact that you take criticism the way you do makes you a cool ass dude. love your music even the new stuff and you guys kick ass live,I've seen you twice. invite me backstage sometime for some beers!
You're right - J.D.Morgan and Lauren Cohan from TWD are playing Jonathan and Martha Kent in BvS (respectively). I kind of believe it might be a coincidence, but the more I've read/heard about it, the more I was sure that something weird and strange happened out there.
Here’s hoping you always keep Alex as your drummer. His abilities leave me speechless as do all of you. Btw Matt, been a fan since forever, I honestly look forward to food reviews from you. And WSOU: Seton Hall Pirate radio. I’m a graduate of seton hall and must hold the record for requesting Trivium. In all honestly, thank you so much for what you do. You are an inspiration to myself and so many.
Such a great person, love the guys in Trivium, but I really wish they could've expanded on their "Shogun" sound. That album, for me, was one of the best Metal albums of the past 15 years. So solid and explorative. "In Waves" was great too, but for different reasons. I love "Ember to Inferno" and "Ascendancy" because we were all Metalcore kids at that time and they are nostalgic. I even like "The Crusade" because it was well done, despite being VERY VERY Metallica-esque. That said, I really can't stand their last two albums though. Here's to hoping for a return to form. Best Wishes to Matt, Corey, and co.
God, how do you not like this dude or Trivium? They truly don't give a shit about anyone's opinion. They play what they wanna play, and no one has changed that
Yessss. The last record was good... but I'm really glad to hear the original Trivium sound again. Whats up Matt by the way lol. When are you guys coming back around Columbus OH?
when he says they play tonnes of shogun stuff i feel like that really only means down from the sky, into the mouth of hell we march and throes of perdition unfortunately. would love to hear shogun itself, as well as kirisute gomen and insurrection live more as it's their best album.
My first Guitar was a $49.99 Harmony Classic with a built in amp on it and speaker in the upper top back corner. so I could just walk around n jam, just needed 4 9 volt batteries
yo matt i dont know if your much of a gamer but theres this videogame called nioh about a westerner who becomes a samurai in japan and i feel like you could write an amazing song for that game.
People will hate on everyone!!!! Lol Matt is such a cool, chill dud!!! Him and Corey!!!!!! One of very few metal bands, that don't walk around with a ego.
I don't care for anything they've put out post Shogun. However I will always respect them for being one of the bands that made me fall in love with aggressive music. I'll always love Ember through Shogun.
I love how he is the grammar police, he’s a very intelligent person. The fact that he’s so calm and finding this shit funny makes him amazing. Plus he’s so hot, lol
So I'm not the only one that thought he looked like Steven Yeun. I watched one of their music videos and thought Steven was in it. xD Btw... I love you Matt. lmao
OK ASCENDENCY WAS THE BEST. i loved it the first time i heard it which is when i was 6 in 2008 but it was the first album i heard and i finally learned gunshot to the head of trepidation on guitar +Matthew Kiichi Heafy
"Where's the groove for In Waves gone?"
"It's still on the In Waves album."
Ouch lol
savage af
I like the way he answers everything with calm and cool. This guy is probably the nicest guy in metal community.
RatHead Master what about Corey Taylor
Slipknot Lover03 lol
Dave Grohl, Corey Taylor, and Matt are probably the most down to earth musicians in the rock genre (ik we said metal community but hey you get the idea)

and rob flynn
how can anyone hate this dude?
No one does. Everyone is just starting to hate how gay his band has become
TheSlackassCrew
if trivium is gay, then justin bieber ?
Silence of the snow is a awesome ass album.
+TheSlackassCrew idk about you but silence in the snow is one of the best ablums they have made its super heavy but utilizes his amazing cleans now hes done vocal training to do his screams again correctly so expect the next cd to have the screams back.
Matt Heafy 4 president! Heafy-Beaulieu 2020. Make music great again! He'll be the first Asian president!
Every time I see an interview with Matt Heafy he just seems like the nicest most genuine guy you could ever meet. He also takes criticism and hate so well...it just bounces right off his back. I also love how he just has his opinion and sticks by it but respects your right to have yours. True fukin story. So level headed. Long time trivium fan here.
Nice to meet a long time fan...he's such an awesome guitarist (I play guitar too), singer ( I also sing) and it seems like he's just a really chill guy
Damn you chose the best time to become a fan. Their new shit is fucking heavy.
I literally just started listening to them this week... Can't stop! Someone bring me food please!
"Where did the In Waves groovs go?"
"They're still on In Waves!"
Made me crack up.
why do people talk shit about him he is a great guy
Haters are retards.
+TRIVIUT

Randall Avila-Arendes is dis sarcasm....
+Faraz A.K.A Masked Memester
No...
I still don't understand the "Trivium is a Metallica clone" idiom. I don't recall them ever sounding like Metallica.
Also, Five Finger Death Punch is the metal Nickelback.
Ketone Conde listen to "The Crusade "
The vocal style is the similar but that's about it. Ketone Conde I remember when five finger was good ( first 2 albums) *caugh caugh*
Ketone Conde por supuesto que Trivium no es el clon de Metallica, Trivium si toca bien en vivo.
Ketone Conde, Nah that's Suicide Silence.
Whenever I start to feel bad at guitar I go back and watch the Trivium "Bet you can't play this" video from years ago.
Such a good guy
I watched this live. At 3:47 I was the one who asked what he was drinking lol. I was so pumped when he answered my question.
SMH
Pretty horrible way to be drinking Chimay though...
@@Cerebus1000 because we obviously all need to be drinking the exact same way..
Such a nice and genuine guy.
"what does corey taylor think about this" That comment won this very discretely.
Such a humble human being!!! I don't understand the HATERS at all!!! Jealous more then likely!!!
trivium till i die
Fuck yeah TRIVIUM !!!! \m/
until the world goes cold
This is gold. More of that ^^
Seems awesome. Wish I could meet someone as kind and genuine
Aspen Tree You can meet me, then :D
Cris Robles are you as talented and handsome?
Aspen Tree My mom says so :D :(
Cris Robles do you live in the basement?
hi I'm matt heafy from trivium and I bet you can't play this
Haha that was so bad.
Seriously Matt, fuck the haters. It only matters if you (and the fans) care, and we dont. Every great band grows in one way or another and the sound changes with it. People need to not be so narrow minded. P.S. I have diabetes, and it blows big giant cocks.

"And you guys don't even know I'm not wearing pants."- Matt Heafy
Reasons why he's my favorite person
Great guy
Trivium is an amazing band. Silence In The Snow wasn't for me, but it wasn't bad either. The fact that they're versatile is what makes them amazing ☺
Holy shit if you cover his ears he looks like a totally different person
I respect the your decisions to change within each and every album. I enjoy how different they are and how cool they are in their own way. Some sound more thrashy, some sound more metal-core, but they all sound pretty heavy to me with excellent instrumentation. You don't need to scream in every song to sound heavy, in my opinion.

Matt. You are the shit. I appreciate your musicianship and how you humble yourself.

Deathgasm is awesome
Probosquadhenry I strongly agree
Probosquadhenry love that movie actually watched it again earlier today
So many references to Trivium in that movie, really cool
Let me make it clear Matt you don't have to scream to make your music sound heavy" Vengeance Falls" had little screaming and its an awesome heavy album. Graven Wolf u never heard of a7x sounding the 7th trumpet have u? shadows did nothing but scream.
Smart.intelligent. Well spoken man. Respect for the entire band. Great role models. Metal at its most prime.
the fact that you take criticism the way you do makes you a cool ass dude. love your music even the new stuff and you guys kick ass live,I've seen you twice. invite me backstage sometime for some beers!
He seems like such a nice, honest, humble guy
the trivium and lamb of god posters are awesome I like the idea you still have your own posters put up
Was Matt talking about Soilwork's Misanthrope at 14:14 ? My net is chugging so I missed what he is just saying before it.
Berserk Struggler Its a Death song
You're right - J.D.Morgan and Lauren Cohan from TWD are playing Jonathan and Martha Kent in BvS (respectively). I kind of believe it might be a coincidence, but the more I've read/heard about it, the more I was sure that something weird and strange happened out there.
We love you Matt, can't wait to see you again on February 14th in Birmingham!
One more thing Matt when will you guys come to Puerto Rico? They're metals fans here who love your music.
Yessss. The last record was good... but I'm really glad to hear the original Trivium sound again. Whats up Matt by the way lol. When are you guys coming back around Columbus OH?
I feel like mat has a lot of stuff as in clutter lol. " and this is my personal toaster i have in my room"
Bro... Ember, Ascendency, Shogun are great albums and Trivium will forever be a great band in my eyes.
My favourite band for 11 years and even I could come up with better trash talk
when he says they play tonnes of shogun stuff i feel like that really only means down from the sky, into the mouth of hell we march and throes of perdition unfortunately. would love to hear shogun itself, as well as kirisute gomen and insurrection live more as it's their best album.

Someone said the Babymetal is more metal than Trivium?
yo matt i dont know if your much of a gamer but theres this videogame called nioh about a westerner who becomes a samurai in japan and i feel like you could write an amazing song for that game.
Trivium did a tour with Machine Head, Gojira and Lamb of God.... god damn it I'm pissed.
People will hate on everyone!!!! Lol Matt is such a cool, chill dud!!! Him and Corey!!!!!! One of very few metal bands, that don't walk around with a ego.
I feel like Trivium and Mastodon would get along well
Dude we're wearing the same shirt!
I don't care for anything they've put out post Shogun.
However I will always respect them for being one of the bands that made me fall in love with aggressive music. I'll always love Ember through Shogun.
Dude an acoustic album would be rad
I love how he is the grammar police, he’s a very intelligent person. The fact that he’s so calm and finding this shit funny makes him amazing. Plus he’s so hot, lol
Teivum is definetly on top five bands together with a7x, Breaking Benjamin, Underwing, and Metallica
We will never now what fucked up thing did lauren said to matt :(
Most level-headed guy in a metal.
You dudes are great don’t let theses duches bring you down the
I don't like all the album's, but respect the musicanship.
At least he understand proper Deadlifts are good for you
Nice shirt!
So I'm not the only one that thought he looked like Steven Yeun. I watched one of their music videos and thought Steven was in it. xD
Btw... I love you Matt. lmao
I guess it's about time to get me a damn descendents shirt!
literally my favorite Death song too ❤
OK ASCENDENCY WAS THE BEST. i loved it the first time i heard it which is when i was 6 in 2008 but it was the first album i heard and i finally learned gunshot to the head of trepidation on guitar +Matthew Kiichi Heafy
i prefer watching Matt jam way more than corey but love em both
My fucking hero here
"Urine, Blood, Money, and some other bodily fluids" I can't tell if that's just mixed up, or if it's a statement on greed. Either way I like it.
Money is a bodily fluid????
If metal sucks only knew the beast they were about to release that is the sin and the sentence
