Thank you Joy! I was just practicing Meditation from Thais and the chromatic portions were a bit hard to clean up. I'll definitely try to apply this lesson in my next practice session. But hearing you play such clean chromatic runs is very inspiring! I'll work harder and try to push myself further. 😍

Amazing! This comes exactly at the right time!! I practiced a piece today that starts with a huge chromatic run, but as I used the "finger sliding" way, it did not sound crisp and I'm also very easy out of tune. So, very helpful with these fingerings!!

It’s the same technique used on the D and E strings when performing the 3-octave G scale (E + F# then up to the G)

An orchestral piece I am writing has fairly fast (1/32T at 77BPM) chromatic runs in both directions; however, so that the scales end up at the right places at the right times, there is an occasional whole step among the half steps. Will those whole steps mess up the player's ability to execute since it changes the hand position slightly? I understand that professionals can play this; but I try not to ensure my works don't require excessive rehearsal time. Thank you.

Hi William, fast runs/scales with mixed whole steps and half steps can require more time for musicians to learn the piece. However of the starting note and the landing notes are easy to find, an orchestra musician can find a way to do the fast runs with a bit of glissando. I wish you lots of beautiful music making!

@@JoyLeeViolin Thank you very much for your kind and helpful reply. (I was signed in as William, but music friends and followers call me Konrad. 😎) I'll send you a link to the finished piece. The mock-up is almost done. Peace and love, --Konrad
