Chloe is 16 now.
Her first CD came out last month. It is a live recording of a 70 minute concert she gave last year - likewise leading the orchestra throughout - when she was 15.
Her musical development has continued at an astonishing rate.
If (rightly) you think she is incredible here, you should see her now!
70 mins?!? never knew it was that long but nice
@@ionlygroommymy2cats
The CD is 62 mins 11 secs.
But of course, even subtracting the main interval (between the Four Seasons and the Locatelli), the concert took a few minutes longer.
Woahh her CD? I would love to hear that :) thx!

She's able to conduct a world class orchestra with just her body language, fully controlling the tempo and temperament with her powerful playing, and quite frankly left the accompaniment in the dust AS A CHILD. I am thrilled that I'm allowed to witness the blossoming of a prodigy!

Six years on, Chloe is one of the great soloists of our age.
She is to make her Australian debut at the Sydney Opera House in a few months time.
I don't know, so please tell me. Which university is she studying at? Is her teacher world famous?
@@mancraft7555
Chloe is home schooled. She has only just turned 17, so she is still too young to attend university.
She continues to study with the person, Yin Ke, who she started to learn violin with when she was four (although her main instrument then was the piano, which she had been playing since she was two).
He is a very highly respected violin teacher at Singapore's elite Nanyang Academy.
He is clearly excellent, and of course he is quite famous now for being Chloe's teacher, but I believe that he wasn't well known outside of Singapore until Chloe herself became famous.

You're right. Lots of people in the comment section can't even play, so why are they trying to disrespect the people in the orchestra. They are all magnificent players.
i see what you’re saying, but i feel like it’s more envy than anything. it’s an absolute honor to play with such a young and talented soloist at the world’s most prestigious violin competition, but if i was one of the orchestral musicians i would feel just a tiny bit jealous in the “i wish that were me” way

Five years later, Chloe is artist in residence with a world class orchestra. Her first cd has been out six months, with three more to follow next year - and, rightly so, her most recent performances have just slipped behind a (very modest) YT paywall.
She has so much to give.
May God bless her!
Hi! Thanks for all of your insightful comments. Where can I find Chloe's latest performances on YT? I don't mind a modest paywall. I have looked a few times but come up with nothing.
@@xxxauraxxxxx
I was speaking of the new membership scheme on the YT channel of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO), with whom Chloe is the artist in residence.
At present only Chloe's truly amazing performance with them earlier this year of Bruch's first violin concerto--it has come as quite a shock to me--is uploaded, but more uploads will follow in due course (none of her recent performances with them of Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante, Mozart's third violin concerto, and Paganini's first violin concerto having as yet been made available, and her performance with them next month of the Butterfly Lovers violin concerto being still to come).
Membership is just SGD2 a month, and gives unlimited access to the uploaded videos.
Chloe's Bruch was uploaded on Saturday and I have already listened to it many times. There are other SSO performances to which membership gives access, but for the moment I am so captivated by Chloe's performance that I haven't yet listened to any.
I feel that SGD2 per month is a very small price to pay to express support for Chloe and the SSO (that in turn fosters her remarkable development).
Membership can be cancelled any time and the monthly payment is taken by direct debit. Signing up to it couldn't be easier. Details are in the descriptions/pinned comments of the Bruch clips that have just been posted on the SSO's channel (and, I presume, under the channel's membership tab.

@@penultimania4295 I unirocally like it, and not for those reasons. In a sense, it's got a nice "sharp"effect. I can understand why people will hate it, but I disagree.
Here's a hot take: Some pieces of music aren't meant to sound "good" ... Shocking, I know. Imagine if critics dictated whether or not something was popular based on it's subjectivity. We wouldn't have abstract art otherwise. Abstract music is the same. Art NEEDS experimentation and artists have a responsibility to break out of the box of "good" and into the space of creativity and exploration. Everything considered "good" was once considered horrific. Rock is great example of this. Auteur film is another. Keep an open mind, maybe one'll surprise oneself.
It's 2023 and I come back to this every now and again. This whole piece played by Chloe gives me peace of mind amidst the chaos we call life.

IS THAT VERNON ON UR DP
she’s amazing. what a privilege it is for her to also have had someone that recognized her talent and knew how to nourish it. i often wonder how many children would be capable of similar feats if born in the right circumstances. she is obviously anointed and so gifted but also very lucky.
When Chloe gave this incredible performance, she was just an ordinary pupil in ordinary primary school. Some of her classmates didn't even know she played violin.
Sure, she had been helped a lot by the fact that her (wonderful) mother Englee Lim is a pianist. But hundreds of thousands of musicians the world over have children, and the tuition Chloe has received is in a sense no different from that given to literally millions of children: she just had lessons a couple of times a week (from the Nanyang Academy).
It is true that her teacher there since she was 4, Yin Ke, has done a superb and amazing job too. But it works both ways. The privilege of teaching someone with such monumental natural talent, with such a pure love for the violin, and with such iron-clad dedication to her Art, must have been one of the greatest experiences of his life.
Very, very few children have ever displayed such enormous musical gifts at an early age as did Chloe, only for those gifts to go unrecognised. Even at the age of 2, after her mother's piano students had finished their lesson and left, she would point out mistakes they had made!! At the age of 4 she decided to switch from the piano, which she had been learning since she was 2, to the violin, because she felt she could express herself better with it!!
@@jackburgess8579 wow amazing to hear and I’m glad her mother let her choose what to play. I feel parents tend to push certain instruments which can stink creativity.
@@jackburgess8579 This was a very well put together response. I feel like people, in their attempt to comprehend how child prodigies happen, seemingly convince themselves that its their environment or their effort that leads them to be this talented.
@@NanamahjiycI think the point was that a lot of children could be prodigies in fields that go undiscovered because they never had the chance to try. Some children don’t have parents that would/can pay for lessons or instruments. Or they just never thought to have their child try.
Her talent might have gone undiscovered if she hadn’t been lucky enough to have the circumstances that she did. No one is saying she isn’t naturally gifted.
It is a an other awesome side of the existence of Internet that it makes so easy to access classical music for anybody now. Before the Internet it was much harder, people had to buy vinyl record, casette tapes and if they could make time then going to live concert, which was luxury for the most as these are usually held in the capital city. Later people could watch classical music on designated TV channels, but it was not so common access for anybody either. Nowadays we can even follow the progress and performances of these young talents so easily thanks to the Internet.

That’s the most intense first 5 mins I’ve ever had. Wow how can a 11 years old play like that daaamn
This piece is so hauntingly beautiful and Chloe plays like a true master. But the most astounding part is the level of maturity this takes. Breathtaking!
The richness in tone, the dynamics, how she silently communicates with the other players is just astonishing. I can't believe she is only 11.
Army!
11! She looks so much younger
jungkoooook
@@helloitsme9470 pretty sure she was 9 in this recording according to all the comments
She’s 14 now
The first piece that she plays, sounds completely different music to other’s. She’s so connected to the sound, it’s amazing to see how she understands the music. She knows so well what nuances and textures to make. Incredible. It’s like she’s alone there, communicating with the sound through her violin.
Yes, I totally agreed. Chloe is also quite charismatic and charming besides being very talented.
Chloe is the most musical violinist of her generation - indeed, of many a generation. From Baroque, through Classical and Romantic to modern, she consistently displays an impeccable understanding of everything she tackles.
Hell, she even does tango and - check out the third piece in this recital - the coolest swing jazz you have ever seen!
ua-cam.com/video/FWbew7YvfyU/v-deo.html
I thought the first piece was compulsory for all...
Im agreed, she is very well with the violin also her short age, she is amazing in the music, we can see the love for the music in her face and like yo say, through the violin. She has a lot of talent, I would like to have all the talent that she has.
"She understands" - This is true. Listen to her interview with MediaCorp Symphony 924. She talks about music like I never heard before. Very light and natural and yet deep.
Bravo Chloé tu as été formidable.

I love how all the musicians are smiling at her while she plays it melts my heart
Agree, if you're a musician and this doesn't make you happy, you're not a musician :D
I love her connection with Marion Stienne (5:33, 08:03, 10:25, 13:20). They don't even need to talk to each other :).
Totally I feel that way too
And people say asian people have no emotions... Ppffff gtfouttahere
Yeah they give her confidence its so sweet☺️😌
After watching a few times, don't watch the video, just up the volume & listen, it's a quite a different experience! Try 05:55
This sounds like combination of my anxiety and depression. How does she even do this 👏👏👏 directions, tempo, so much emotions, beautiful
Remember, This is the same girl who thought two almost 30 year olds who played violin for 20+ years how to play paganini and absolutely destroy them (and compliment eddy about his intonation)
(I know I'm being pedantic but Paganiniana isn't a piece written by Paganini, but rather a piece by Nathan Milstein that's based on variations on themes from Paganini's works, notably his 24 Caprices)
huh i thought theyre teenagers
@@anemic-peachless 😂😂definitely not
@@anemic-peachless that's just Asian genetics playing a trick on ya 😂
To be fair if I’m not wrong they were sight reading while she had probably practiced it for hours and hours which makes a HUGE difference and I’m not sure if destroyed is how to put it, yes she was much better but I’m think a lot part where they say they were destroyed was was comedic effect.

She looks like a living doll playing the violin! Beautiful musical perfection on the violin!🎉
as someone who started playing instruments at a young age too, I can’t describe how so so so so soooo good she is. She had no time to learn all these songs and still did them all flawless.
"Dad what do ya do for a living? "
Dad: "play backup for a 9 year old."
Edit:This kinda blew up- thanks for informing she was 11 at the time, but of course it was a joke:)
BAHHACAH
All parents do that. They go to work to back up their children. Obviously, this kind of child needs more time to take care of... more energy, patience, understanding. Not everyone can have a prodigy at home. And so many prodigies didn't have the opportunity to bloom because of that.
@@dianemoril7612 yo what the hell are you talking about.. the dad he’s talking about are the performers in the back who are supporting the melody being played by the prodigy 9 year old in the video. bruh

I would imagine it’s an enjoyment for great musicians to play with other great musicians. It’s just a bunch of talented musicians vibing off of each other. No matter the age.
It is. I’m not a great musician, but it is an incredible feeling to be with others of similar skill and just vibing. It’s the best honestly
This is true. I would not call myself a “great” musician. But I am proficient. And making music with other proficient musicians…ah. It’s magic. Euphoric.

Guys, her shoe straps are VELCRO. That’s how young this girl is; little white shoes to go with your little dress with a bow young and already called this good 🤯
She is 14 now
i think it’s performance shoes, that’s why they’re velcro! but your message is clear,, she is very talented and hardworking! :D

Youd think at such a high level competition the audience would know not to clap in between movements
All the parents probably.
Jet Conway but very hard not to.
They couldn't help themselves everytime XD
its just they cant help it
Every time I hear it I’m like “no no god no stop! You idiots!” Like, I don’t even go to these things and I know lol.
Videos such as these make you question your existence. This 11 yr old confidently plays at such a big stage in front of the audience. Me at that age couldn't even come forward to speak in front of my classroom fearing ridicule.
This performance is truly historic.
It will be cherished and beloved for as long as classical music exists.
She is totally in command and the way the concert master looks back at her you know that she got her full respect.

She has eye contact with the orchestra which is amazing! She’s only 9 yo and even shorter than those who are sitting!! Amazing talent!
Actually Chloe was 11 when she gave this performance. But everything else you say is still true. She is _very_ special.
In the finals there were no conductor which means the soloist had to cue the orchestra with body language. This is one of the greatest performances of all time.
11 years old at this competition. Chloe is 15 now, and on her way to womanhood.
TRUE!!! I was LOVING that fact of hers..... She was looking at them and smiling with like Reassuring them all. She's kind of Conducting while playing.
The best part is seeing the rest of the orchestra smiling and admiring her.

Vessals of infinate potential only limited by what they are taught and believe is possible.
A symphony of the soul indeed.
In a word.
Incredible.
After all, she's still a child. Her smiles lighten up the seriousness and professionalism she is showing through her music. So happy see talented young kids who have fun in what they're doing.
Yes, there are a cute pair of twins in my church who are rather advanced musically, but they never crack a smile, makes you wonder how much they are being pushed.
Yes while this child who is playing in an orchestra in front of an audience and is absolutely astonishing at the violin and is doing something with her life I am here sitting in my bed being a depressed, lazy, annoying bitch💀

That's true
I was not there but she was a little surprised by the applauses in between movements which are not customary in classical music and the public was definitely aware but they could not resist the charm of this young violinist who would win joint first prize with that performance!
The world will be much better with Chloe's existence and her performance.
Vivaldi is smiling in heaven❤
