- We are on a tight budget to finish our house and buying used kitchen cabinets was a way to not only save a lot of money, but to make it possible to have quality wood cabinets! We feel very blessed to have been able to find and purchase these cabinets and have the skills to DIY ‘customize’ (aka cut!) them to fit our kitchen !

We are Rich & Kathie, a retired couple building our dream home: A SUPER ENERGY EFFICIENT OFF GRID earth sheltered home in the Adirondacks!
The house will be covered with about 30" of soil which helps to maintain an internal temperature between 45 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit in winter & summer respectively. This means that in the winter we will only need minimal heat that we plan to provide with a small wood burning stove and we shouldn't need any air conditioning in the summer at all!
With inflation right now, the energy efficiency of this house is a HUGE Plus! But, it also means that we have a super tight budget that is getting tighter by the day. For this reason we DIY everything we reasonably can and find creative ways to save money such as repurposing.

Loved watching you create a beautiful kitchen using these used cabinets. My husband and I did the same thing in our 1970s home. My sister remodeled her house and totally renovated her kitchen. Her old cabinets were oak and really only about 10 years because they had their house built. So we bought them for 500.00 and removed our old 1970s cabinets and fitted the oak cabinets into our kitchen. I love them.

Wow! Cabinets turned out amazing. I'm sure Craftmade would be proud of what you guys did with those cabinets too. Trying to repurpose and install someone else's kitchen cabinet layout into another kitchen is about as difficult as molecular science. Lol. You guys crushed it. Couldn't have turned out better. And all for $750 plus several hours of labor is incredible. Totally awesome! Congratulations! Looking forward to seeing the countertop, backsplash, trim, and finished kitchen.

hey that is fantastic work. By the way, I didnt see the switches for the hood fan and light, I assume there is a space between the hood and the trim to turn them on and off
The hood fan wasn’t installed yet, but yes, rich actually customized that (a future video) so that the switches are moved to where we can reach them. He retired it!
You made a very nice kitchen from those cabinets, congratulations! 👏 But I wouldn't advice anyone to be as adventurous and I'd say plan your kitchen in something like free IKEA Kitchen Planner first (even if using old repurposed cabinets) and then buy and cut and amend accordingly. That's more boring, but safer approach :-)

Awe. He is definitely a good one!
That would have cost $ 20,000 where I live. And you would have had to hassle with the contractor for months. This will add lots of nostalgic-value that is INTANGIBLE to the value of the "home."
