I'm so excited to share my Top 15 Designer Kitchen Ideas to elevate your space and make it your favorite room in the house! Let me know in the comments which tip is your favorite. I personally have several, lol! And stay tuned because in the next few months I'll be sharing my Kitchen Refresh on our channel using lots of today's tips!🥰 Cheers Design Lovers! Xo- Ashley
My kitchen island extension is a bar cart that is usually in place beside my stove, but then moves over to the table for serving food if there's a need. That's all I have room for, and it works really well.
Love my kitchen ceiling beam. It's black against a white background. The pop adds a little drama without overwhelming, and brings the various black elements of my kitchen together.
I have bought (as a temporary feature) a small marble tray where I keep a soap dispenser and a sponge. Can’t wait to dispose it because dirt gets into all seams and I have regularly waist my time on cleaning the tray. Dread to imagine to do it for sink.
@@YayaBolender Marble is porous, therefore it's a terrible material for countertops, let alone a sink. Looks beautiful on picture but would be horrible to maintain. The only situation where it may be okay is in some mansions with 2 kitchens - hidden one for actual cooking and one in the open space for making tea and coffee. Actually, even in this case it wouldn't really work because coffee, tea, wine etc. would stain the marble...
There has to be an artificial material out there that looks like marble. I agree! Kitchens are messy and busy for a normal family. That beautiful integrated sink looks great when first installed but over time it must look horrible. Then what? You have to replace the entire counter!
This was a great video-I love these ideas-especially the counter hutch idea. I’ve heard so many say that open shelving, although attractive, is a nightmare to keep clean. I feel like the hutch with glass doors solves this problem. You can display your pretty things, but without the constant cleaning. I definitely want to incorporate this into my kitchen remodel.
I am already icorporating hutch cabinets, pulling the base cabs firwRd to make the countertops 30" instead of 25" deep and raising them an inch, and having swing out lightweight wood with drop down legs to give more prep space to my small galley kitchen. Also motion detecting lighting to lower cabinets converted to drawers and pullouts.
Those all sound like great ideas!!! I'm doing something similar to your swing out prep countertop in an upcoming renovation and I can't wait! It's such a great way to maximize space and function❤️
I disagree. We put in rough stone tile as a backsplash and we sealed it. It's held up. I like it because it's not perfect and it's different shades of color and texture which would hide stains if needed but so far no stains and easy to clean.
First of all.. great photos with well narrated highlights. For me it's always the hard surfaces and how they anchor the spaces, but this makes me love the on counter cabinets
The range hood design for the kitchen shown at 3;09 , along with the Zellige tiles and that cool neutral off-white colour is one of the best stove areas I have ever seen. Chef's kiss emoji here!
Can’t wait to see the changes to your kitchen! So many things to love these days. I think for me, it would be several things that prob fall into the category of layering. All of the details combined to create the WOW. First the little ceiling fixtures instead of recessed. Different cabinet door profiles that work together as well as combining stain and paint. I’m really in love with the same counter stone and backsplash material and mixing counter edges. You have me thinking about the stone sinks now. Great content as always !
Oh, yes!! I love all of those as well, especially using a grid of flush mount light fixtures instead of recessed cans! That's a feature I've loved using in clients homes. Thanks for watching!
I've been planning a kitchen remodel for a while now. I'm definitely leaning towards French Country style. I plan on incorporating a natural stone wall, wooden beams, hutch style uppers with glass doors and painted cabinets. I'm still undecided on sink, counter tops, and pantry. Thanks for sharing this! 💯 ❣️
Island extensions: Such a great area of focus. I have designed many projects with raised & deeper dish storage- great for access to most areas of the kitchen and adjacent spaces. Love your very well explained style of explaining.
Skirted cabinetry is divine in the right styled home/cottage. Love it under a laundry trough. Great idea for a pantry if you can't afford those extra cabinet doors!
I enjoyed watching this video on kitchen ideas, and am glad to see that I have already included many of these in my new home kitchen renovation. Living in Europe, I found it interesting to see you highlight your perspective on kitchen details from this side of the pond. Natural stone, wood, curves, beautiful faucets that are not stainless steel juxtaposed against sleeker finishes and cabinetry seem to be trending here as well. I am glad to have found your channel.
Definitely need an elegant, timeless glass element to give your kitchen some sparkle. Since my kitchen is small, I went with floating shelves where I placed fancy storage containers for things like nuts, seeds and garlic. It cleared up counter space and still left the kitchen with an open airy vibe. My upper cabinets were partially blocking views out the kitchen window. Not only are the decorative jars functional, but they add just the right amount of sparkle without looking like clutter.
I adore hutch style cabinetry in a kitchen and prefer it over open shelving. Everything remains dust free and the look adds instant charm and cosiness to the space, whether the decor is modern sleek or more traditional.
Ok, so now I just want to rip my kitchen apart...or move! Thanks for such great ideas - my favorite is incorporating that European look into our box style kitchens. So easy to add character if you just give attention to the little details!
This is spot on! The variety you have shown, draws you in! I like them all. My top three; 1-end of the island, 2-faucet, 3-hutch. I am also planning on that (horizon hutch project) in the near future. However, I need to source the wood, from a mill. Looking forward to your kitchen reveal as well. I also loved that you shared an update from a former client, that only involved paint. That is a real tribute to your initial decorating skill! Bravo!
I loved them all. I am in the design phase of my new kitchen. I started off with buying a wine red BLuestar range. I am going from there and will be incorporating some of the beautiful ideas you shared today. Will be changing the door to my butler's pantry with a glass door!
I love, and want to do the rough cut stone backsplash to replace the current one. I just have to find who does that in my area. All the ideas were fun to look at. Ill be looking forward to seeing your kitchen refresh !
I notice how shallow the eating area is where you are sitting. It appears impossible for you to turn around and sit with your legs under the overhang, which seems like poor planning to me. So although there’s 3 bar stools, how many people can actually sit there comfortably? And at 13:37, you mentioned “chromone bolts”? What are they? I’ve never heard of them before. Lastly, how difficult will the rock walls or backsplash be to keep clean on a daily basis? It looks great but when you’re cooking and grease and dust get on it, isn’t it easier to clean a smooth surface than a rough textured surface? Some things sound better than the day to day reality. Of course, I guess if you can afford it you probably have a cleaning staff to take care of the cleaning so it doesn’t matter. But for a 76 year old grandmother like me, I want something that I’m not going to have to scrub my knuckles raw on every time I cook. So I think I’ll pass on this idea. Looks pretty, though.
I love most of these trends. I don’t have the financial means to do all of them. My house is 100 years old and I have skirted my laundry room cabinet. I also found an old chopping block which we turned into a kitchen island which rolls around it’s beautiful functional and I love it, thank you for your design tips. They are beautiful.
I love both things you’ve done! Your house sounds so charming❤️ I want to do an antique chopping black island in our cottage reno!! I’m on the hunt for one🥰
We are building a home and I am designing and building my kitchen cabinets. I also have a planned scullery plus a pantry. I found it interesting that I had already incorporated all of the ideas you mentioned in my build. Yes, I am building each cabinet with it's intended use in mind. I am excited to know that I will have a designer kitchen without the designer price tag.
All these kitchen ideas are beautiful and really come down to personal style, budget and space. The only thing I would comment on is from a functional point of view, the bevelled edges of a countertop should be smooth. Grease dust etc. would be so hard to clean if there are so many vertical and horizontal lines. Thanks for the inspiration. 🥰🇨🇦
I love having a bowl of fresh fruit for a pop of color. My color of choice is yellow, so I go with bananas and lemons. Whatever doesn't have to be refrigerated.
Hello Ashley! Great ideas - thank you for sharing! I am also excited about renovating an open space 1 bedroom apartment, and thought about adding faux beams on the ceiling that is currently painted in stucco white over metal tracks | | | | all across the ceilings throughout the apartment. Though I am only applying the faux beams in part of the open space of the living area, and to create a separation to the kitchen and front entry. I'll have to take pictures of the before after! Stay blessed and inspired!
One has to be extremely neat to have exposed pantry or glass door on a fridge. One has to love constant dusting to have rough-cut surface in the place you prepare food in.
Ashley, thank you for sharing your incredible talent and wealth of knowledge with us. Your videos are always informative and inspiring. Your presentation skills genuine and there is always a beautiful essence of peacefulness. You may have addressed this in a video that I have missed……where are you putting microwaves, kitchen aid mixers, food processors, toasters ? Especially when you have a smaller kitchen.
I bought Moen faucet and towel rods for my bathroom. They're made in North Carolina. My plumber says they can be repaired as they age, unlike most other faucets, that have to be replaced.
I'm glad you feel inspired! I'm hopeful to use a few of the ideas in our kitchen refresh and will certainly be on a budget! I'll share the whole process on the channel. Thanks so much for watching!
Me too!!! I've been collecting ideas and inspo for months! We're not doing a major reno, just a little update, but it will make sure a big difference. Can't wait to share it on the channel!
I love all the ideas you have presented ARE AMAZING🎉 but IF i had to choose 3 /island, hutch on counter cabinets , metal hardware. Thank you Ashley love all your tips i'll be watching your K.R.🎉👍🌼
Wonderful video- and so well done with the images. I really would have a hard time to say which of the elements I prefer. I suppose I do like the idea of the layers in general (so multiple textures- whether two kinds of paint for cabinets , two different countertop materials etc). I love very much the creative countertop edges. I am planning to use this element in my kitchen renovation (and just finished doing this for my coffee table renovation- had a slate slab cut and included detailed edge which I would like to use in kitchen). I have a kitchen that is open to the living room and dining area (loft like)- and this great space has windows from counter level to ceiling across the whole way around the room- so no possibility of upper cabinets anywhere (think continuous windows wrapping all the way around room. It also has huge stone cut squares that act as a ledge under the windows all the way around (actually these windows wrap around the entire top floor of house). This leaves me only one wall in kitchen area that is partitioned and so can have cabinets. Because the views around the rest of the room are breathtaking- I could not have a built- in cabinet wall to store fridge/stove etc. I needed to have something magnificent on the 'one' wall without windows. So I did buy an antique hutch with metal mesh cupboards- almost 3 meters tall. So it made designing the place to house fridge and stove tricky...but well worth figuring out how to push that constraint! That said- it seems that my kitchen has all the layer elements coming together naturally- huge wood beams in ceiling- stone walls & ledges- and so when I incorporate more of the details on your list- I am hoping it will be quite something! :)
I love exposed beams especially when they were part of the original design of the house. I do wonder though if this resurgence of adding them everywhere will end up making the room look passé or so typically 2023 ish. Kind of like the all white kitchens came and went.
There are so many amazing old homes in Europe with beams (all structural of course) but I think the depth and architectural character they add are timeless. Although, I do think they should be used sparingly throughout a home for sure. Thanks so much for watching!
Im going to vote a BIG heck NO on the exposed pantry lol - I have 3 kids, 3 pets and no way would I want to add the stress of keeping that perfect - Maybe when the kids move out - stil not even sure I'd want to do it then!
Well I loved every single one of those kitchens for different reasons. Especially the exposed stone, and the stone aprons. How do you choose how to build or remodel when you like so many things/design ideas?
Wow. Thanks for so many great ideas. I understand what you mean about the open pantry being controversial. I’m pretty neat, but I don’t think I like that idea. Or open shelves in the kitchen. I always think about if I get a fly in the house. I’d have to re-wash everything. Love your videos and just subscribed!
I'm looking for new plumbing fixtures too, there's so many beautiful options out there, and we have our microwave hidden in a cabinet! Thanks for watching ❤️
Another great video! I love the kitchen with the dark-stained wood hutch and creamy uppers and taupe lowers and vent hood with the brass picture rail over it! Is this one you designed and I can see more of it on your website?
Yeah, you’d need to go dark in that case for sure. We did a black granite one with slight variations for a client and it turned out beautiful and it’s super durable!
I am now encouraged to update my kitchen and breakfast room by painting the walls, and cannot figure out what would be a good color. The well made cabinets are white, the countertop is sage green, granite and my walls are a soft yellow. The foors are colonial yellow pine. Do you have any suggestions Ashley?
Opps the double pendant light at 8:38 on the video ( and the following one which is a triple). Where can I buy this. I need a single outlet double pendant! So hard to find❤
3:15, i could do a wall and sort of kitchen like this. My house is totally made from such stones in 1870. Ardennes, Belgium. But i will prordo that in my to make bathroom what is now still a bedroom. Last month i beoke through my 20"/50cm stone wall to make a dooropening to my garden. What a big job was that. My kitchen is from about 1982 and not so appealing... My 5 bedrooms still have the doors and handles from 1870. Also some plinths (plint / plinten in Dutch) are original. They have wooden notches to be put into the wall plast,er as they were when i took them off. I will reuse them ofcourse. I think that the window sill in my entry hall is actually a stone wash sink. My neighbor across the street ( overbuur in Dutch) also still has the original stone sink on such a window spot in her entry hall. She said it was used to wash the vegetables and so. In the authum the historical village man come to visit my house to write about it in the village magazine. They write about every house its history, old and new. History is interesting. Regards from a father and his son from the Ardennes ( Battle of the Bulge area).
Your home sounds like a storybook dream!!! I can’t imagine 20” thick stone walls, how marvelous! I would love to live in a home with all that character and history❤️ Thank you for sharing!!
@@ashleychilders yes, it absolutely is. By the way, I made some type mistakes and did not reread my text. Like today it was 31°Celsius (88F) outside but inside it is still normal with 20°C. The outside is white like all the houses in the village. The roof is 90 year old slate in very big tiles. There are no red roofpannes allowed and no other colors then white, brown, grey and natural stone are allowed to color your house. House white, around the windows brown or black or anthracite ( in the old days farmhouses had green around their windows. I found that color under the brown), grey roof, stone outside wall or brown wood planks on the outside. Across the field the very modern house is in these colors. So it fits very good in the village. Yes, I try to bring back the old flair but I also like modern furniture. Such a white fence would fit my front garden. The front façade has 4 windows on a row where bedrooms are. The winter project will be the small bedroom. It will be an office and I reuse the original plinths and ofcourse the original door and door frame. The bedroom for guests (logeerkamer) is in a more English cottage style. Not finished because I did not find some right furniture. The attic is 100% from 1870. Big beams and no insulation, original flooring with at some places tin/metal cheating patches are nailed to the planks against mice. The village historical guy will visit my house and write about it in the village magazine. But because of the American bombardment from St. Vith on 24 th December 1944, no build drawings or anything is left ( from many houses). Best regards
@@gerhard6105 an original slate roof is my absolute dream!!! Gosh, it all just sounds so picturesque! Thank you for painting such a beautiful mental picture for us all 🤎
The idea of a glass door pantry can be charming, but there are times when the pantry area can get a little cluttered and it would drive me crazy to be able to see that, (which is my my walk-in closet areas have closed doors, albeit they clad in beautiful handprinted and embroidered wall paper fabric). In my new home renovation, I have utilised part of a corridor leading to the kitchen area as a small walk-in 'China cabinet/pantry where I will store my good china, linens, cutlery, vases, some appliances etc. with open shelving that sits above sets of drawers. Having closed cupboards in this area would make the corridor too dark, so I opted for glass doors with a tiny warm metal mesh-like structure from Rimadesio (Milan) that lets in light but not too transparent. I can leave a soft light on in the cupboard area which casts a soft glow to the corridor. You would be surprised at how this modern glass front adapts to clean lined designs as well as something more classic. A hutch with glass doors I adore, but a pantry area that is always on show, not so much.
Everything in your kitchen seems like a trend. Since you will be adding a hutch are you gonna do more of timeless piece? All the pics you showed are beautiful. I guess the takeaway is to do timeless from the get go otherwise we will always be dreaming with the next big thing.
My kitchen is pretty classic. Subway tiles, plaster hood, classic marble countertops, warm gray cabinetry. All those items are timeless. But we’ve lived in our home for 7 years now and I just want a little refresh. Nothing major. Just adding the hutch shelving, repainting the cabinetry, add new handmade tile that I’ve fallen in love with and possibly doing new plumbing fixtures (depending on budget). We spend so much time in this room that I’m just ready for a little change. 🤎🤎
Yep, I knew it. It wouldn't be long and people would be getting rid of those floating shelves. 😂 There's a reason cabinets with doors were invented. It's to keep the dust off of your stuff.
These kitchens are harmonious and beautiful, yet becoming so predictable and therefore boring and unoriginal. Social Media teaches us, and trains our eyes, which is great, but at the same time removes freshness and discovery from our lives. This design, unfortunately, is for people who have the money to buy anything they want. So they buy anything to make sure they are not like the rest of us. A middle American wouldn't be able to afford even half of that kitchen, and the top 1% removes materials from the environment to purchase another trendy thing every 10 years. People do whatever you want in your homes so that you are happy. You don't have to be like the rest or like the 1%. Utilize harmonious designs, natural materials (if you can afford them), use colors you enjoy, and pay attention to details, but don't follow these trends. No matter how beautiful these kitchens are, they will become dated, just like the expensive kitchens and bathrooms of the early 2000s and 2010s. Your 1990s kitchen can be updated, invest in things that you don't already have like wallpaper, art, wooden table, safer appliances, but geez don't rip out your kitchens just to look like these kitchens, which will become outdated too.

Rough cut stone is a HORRIBLE design choice for kitchens! Impossible to clean. The kitchen is the LAST place it should be!

The 1st exposed Pantry is beautiful! I would use it as a Butlers Pantry to showcase Majolica and dishes and objet d'art!😍👏
Island extension, very practical: Hutch style, well-complements the kitchen design in most cases

All I see with anything open shelving is more space for dust to collect.
It really isn’t a big deal. Having an all white kitchen is more work.
I see functionality for people with disabilities..
@@desertdaisymarie6951 what disabilities prevent someone from opening a cabinet but allow them to reach for items on the shelf?
It depends on the disability. But probably a door hitting a wheelchair.

Grease dust etc. would be so hard to clean if there are so many vertical and horizontal lines. Thanks for the inspiration. 🥰🇨🇦
Thanks so much for watching!
Sophisticated image choices ✅
Thank you!
Nice! I’m sure they’ll be beautiful!❤️
Beautiful video Ashley. Feeling inspired though most of these items cost a fortune
I'm glad you feel inspired! I'm hopeful to use a few of the ideas in our kitchen refresh and will certainly be on a budget! I'll share the whole process on the channel. Thanks so much for watching!
I need this … ready to do my kitchen .
Me too!!! I've been collecting ideas and inspo for months! We're not doing a major reno, just a little update, but it will make sure a big difference. Can't wait to share it on the channel!
@@ashleychilders I can’t wait to watch it !!!
Awesome ideas. I wish I had the budget to bevel the edges in my kitchen. It’s the only thing I wish I had done differently.
Beautiful examples 😍
Thank you!! 😃
Beautiful choices
Thank you!! Happy Sunday ❤️
Speaking of extensions.. that hair.. wow, bella
Im going to vote a BIG heck NO on the exposed pantry lol - I have 3 kids, 3 pets and no way would I want to add the stress of keeping that perfect - Maybe when the kids move out - stil not even sure I'd want to do it then!
I'd love to see more on range hoods pleeeeeeeaaaassssseeee 🙏🏾
Lots of the design ideas are for the look but not practical. You’ll know if you are really cooking in your kitchen.
Rough cut stone backsplash 🤔 that's hard no.
Thank you for the heads up!
Well I loved every single one of those kitchens for different reasons. Especially the exposed stone, and the stone aprons. How do you choose how to build or remodel when you like so many things/design ideas?
Beautiful done
Love it
The inlaid stone sink!
Wow. Thanks for so many great ideas.
I understand what you mean about the open pantry being controversial. I’m pretty neat, but I don’t think I like that idea. Or open shelves in the kitchen. I always think about if I get a fly in the house. I’d have to re-wash everything.
Love your videos and just subscribed!
thank you for sharing.
You’re welcome! I hope you found some inspiration 🥰
I will change plumbing fixture. Wish I could get rid of the over the stove microwave…… maybe one day.
I'm looking for new plumbing fixtures too, there's so many beautiful options out there, and we have our microwave hidden in a cabinet! Thanks for watching ❤️
Amazing!!
Make sure you do a hideaway trash can that pulls out of a cabinet for convenience.
Love your style
Great advices!
Another great video! I love the kitchen with the dark-stained wood hutch and creamy uppers and taupe lowers and vent hood with the brass picture rail over it! Is this one you designed and I can see more of it on your website?
How to clean the greasy built up on the stone wall in the kitchen? 😂
Good question! I'm thinking this feature might be best on an accent wall, not above the cooking surface!
Great video and really well curated and presented. Thank you Ashley! p.s. not too sure about that skirt cabinetry...:-)
I can’t imagine the stains on a marble sink especially if you cook Indian or middle eastern food.
Yeah, you’d need to go dark in that case for sure. We did a black granite one with slight variations for a client and it turned out beautiful and it’s super durable!
Thanks 🦋
I am now encouraged to update my kitchen and breakfast room by painting the walls, and cannot figure out what would be a good color. The well made cabinets are white, the countertop is sage green, granite and my walls are a soft yellow. The foors are colonial yellow pine. Do you have any suggestions Ashley?
Rough cut stone in a kitchen? Hope you have a way to clean that ... unless you don't cook ... I love the hutch style cabinetry!
everything is just delicious
At 15:07 on the video, the double drop light-please where can I buy this one? Thanks!
I am on the right track.
Thank you for painting such a beautiful mental picture for us all 🤎
My kitchen is small . How can add more storage?
Ashley’s monthly door dash bill must be astronomical.
Not a fan of range hoods, especially in smaller kitchens. They are just too weighty, and don't really add anything as a decor element.
My dream kitchen new friend
@@ashleychilders. Ooff….sounds like it’s gonna be nice!
I just want to bring back Art Nouveau
I have been to several tile and granite places. No one can help me with the rough stone backsplash. Who can do this ?
For sure a stone mason! Our stone mason does all the stonework on the exterior and interior of the homes we design+build. Good luck!
Raked edge? That's probably hard to clean...
Yep, I knew it. It wouldn't be long and people would be getting rid of those floating shelves. 😂
There's a reason cabinets with doors were invented. It's to keep the dust off of your stuff.
That range hood in your kitchen is partially blocking the view out your kitchen window from the vantage point where the video is being recorded.
Where do you hide the microwave in all these beautiful designs? If you have a family, they are probably used 20 times a day.
The segment at [9:30] was spot-on! I’ve recently shared a video on Top 15 Designer Kitchen Ideas | Ashley Childers - would love to hear your thoughts!
