I think he was a lost soul on it's way to it's destination after death but ended up in a dead, soulless corpse. The body was misshapen and turned a ghostly pale white, and grew to immense heights of how tall he is. The soul did sad and of embarrassment, so it carried over in his new body. This was possibly in biblical times too.
I’d imagine the creator (the actual wiki creator) of 096 laughing at us as we foolishly try to guess what his origin is in all these advanced and complicated ways, only for them to say that he’s just a normal anomalous creature who popped into existence and just doesn’t like being looked at.
Personally I love the Pattern Screamer theory, or something along those lines (5:27). 096's face is completely nonexistent, but the human mind fills in the blanks. 096 can psychically sense this response, and cannot stand it... 096 would rather be _entirely_ nonexistent. EDIT: People would always perceive the _same_ face because of some universal trait hidden deep in the human psyche.
Ok but aren't pattern screamers affected by reality anchors. Since 096 is stored in keter containment it would absolutely have been subjected to one at some point.
@@SeventhSeraphOfficerRevolver I don't know enough about the SCP universe to say for certain, but it seems to me like reality anchors either do or don't exist, depending on the needs of the story/entry. There are plenty of SCPs that I feel should have their anomalous effects tested against reality anchors, if only because of the Foundations apparent policy of testing for every possible outcome, no matter how sensible the test may, or may not be, but it doesn't seem to have been mentioned much. Though maybe that's just because of my limited understanding of what bends reality, and what is still anomalous, but doesn't.
The Scarlet King theory is cool, since two his potential children, SCP-682 and SCP-096, are both embodiments of emotions. 682 is pure hatred, as was in that story about an AI that was created to kill 682, considered rage and hate given form. Shy Guy could be an embodiment of fear, shyness, shame or something else
The Shy Guy is actually a part of E-6810-9B, and is an accidental creation of a demon, which was horrified so much by it, that it was sent to another dimension and enters a fit of rage whenever someone sees it's face, reminding it of it's master's reaction
12:39 I have a question, what if they aren't inconvenienced by their looks? One of the most recent escapes of 096 is caused by a guy looking at four pixels of him. Surely he didn't say, "Those four pixels are really ugly."
It doesn't matter. A person's brain takes in a lot of visual information they don't even consciously realize. This is saying that even if you saw its face subconsciously (and doesn't register consciously) it will know and make B-line to destroy all knowledge of its face. Apparently even a badly distorted image of a few pixels is enough to trigger the rampage state.
@@raheemmohammad3708 if you watch the end of that one it says its up to the viewer to decide whether 343 is making it up or not. The pattern screamer one could still be old anyway, the suggested method was just an idea how it could have happened. Also 3930 doesnt say whether it started in the 70s or was just found then. It could have always been there.
About the Plague Doctor one, I had a thought that Shy Guy could've been SCP-049 attempting a more complex creation/a creation period. But when Shy Guy "malfunctioned", the Plague Doctor probably deemed it as a failure and never got the motivation to make another complex thing, opting for simple zombies.
Doesn't Shy Guy usually just sit there if someone can't see his face? I don't think that would change. I'm curious to see if SCP-053 can tame Shy Guy the way she did with SCP-628
I feel that some of the most popular SCPs exist as reflections of particular concepts that plague humanity. 682 represents the nature of hatred, 049 may be hubris, and 173 fits in as the concept of vanity. Going with this theme, SCP embodies the idea of insecurity, the self-destructive emotion that makes us lash out at others and tear down the world around us just to cope with our own weakness. It may not have been the original intent of the author, but it makes a strange amount of sense.
my own theory is he is what was left of the wendigo after the wendigo skull was removed, thus the "human" remorse, and limiting the urge to kill, the malice, and the hunger to those who see the remains of his face. the pattern screamer theory is interesting but descriptions of the shy guy match whereas a pattern screamers description would change based on who was trying to see a face. the mask is eliminated by me due to location, why adapt for extreme cold if not needed, and the mask shows interest in him but not self possessiveness (ie that's my old body, give it back)
He resembles the actual stories of Wendigo more than the skull tbh. The deer skull is an invention of western cinema and probably is more closely tied to the European fear of curses rather than the actual religious traditions of first nations peoples.
@@Chameleonradio I think what they are saying is the skull was part of the shy guy but it's head got ripped off while trying to kill something far worse. It grew back but deformed. This resulted in traumatic shame of not wanting to be seen. The skull actually wants to be returned to its body and the desire to kill everything in its path is just ghostly echos of an endless eternal rage.
the amount of plausible theories you could come up with for the shy guys origins is insane. just from the idea of not wanting its face to be seen, you wouldnt expect too many theories, seems rather simple. just truly goes to show not only how amazing and well written the lore is but how dedicated and talented the fan base is too. i’m so glad i found scps, and it’s all because of you guys, thank you!!!
The mountain king one is my favourite. I just find it so tragic and horrifying to think that the mountaineer was just trapped on a mountain constantly getting tortured by the creature although he couldnt die or escape. I know in his scp story he doesn't really so this kind of thing but he is an scp, so it is possible that he has powers the foundation wouldn't know about in case this unique situation occurred
Ah yes, anxiety, the mental illness that gives you super strength, immortality and the ability to know if someone looked at your face even if it was only 1 pixel in a old photo
3:50 Wouldn't that be something that can be easily verified by checking his book in Alexandria Eternal ? The same applies for all the possible origins based on known subjects.
i love the one where he is a mountain climber . meets the king of the mountain. who tortures him by making him climb for decades. during which point his body warped into the horror we know today. he attacks people that see his face. because to him. everyone looks like the king of the mountain. which is why he get uncontrollable rage. and why he cries.
My theory is that 096 was an early creation of SCP-1000. It's already implied that they made SCP-4715 in revenge for losing the battle with early humans, so it's not unreasonable that it wasn't the sole anomaly they created to attack humanity.
Honestly, my favorite is the Scarlet King theory. He may not have any inherent malice, due to his low intelligence, but he is an agent of chaos in some way. While his actions can be predicable in how they start, the SCP foundation can only do damage control once it does. In addition, his crying and wailing may be similar to how the hard to destroy reptile hates his own life as much as he does all other living things: The shy guy is the chaotic embodiment of anxiety, while the hard to destroy reptile is the embodiment of hatred. Both nigh unstoppable and unkillable regenerative beasts.
I heard a story which I'm pretty sure involved 343 but it might have been the plage doctor looking into the shy guys mind and seeing him being mocked by a group of other children. Perhaps the other children were other children of the scarlet king and mocked him for his lack of bloodlust.
The implication that Mario and Luigi work for the Foundation but spend a lot of their work hours hanging out in the mushroom kingdom and beating up a giant turtle that breathes fire instead of researching him is honestly one of my favorite things about this video
I'm pretty sure he's one of the three profanities mentioned in the "Kaktusverse" - which, incidentally I would love to see you guys do some videos on! Great Luigi and Mario btw, but stellar voicework is pretty mch to be expected from SCP Explained.
I think that shy guy was a normal person born very long ago, until some very strong anomalous magic (possibly from the scarlet king) cursed him to where he became very deformed and strong. The magic cursed him so that if anyone ever saw his face, rather through picture, or eye to eye, he would be forced to rip them apart. The shy guy obviously not wanting to do this, fled to the mountains to try and protect anybody from him. I think this makes since because he doesn't seem to want to hurt anybody and seems like he would be nice if it wasn't for being forced to kill anyone or anything that sees he's face. We know he doesn't want to hurt anybody because he cries before, and after he is about to attack, pleading with the magic to not have to kill them, but it is useless and he is forced to.
The ones I like are the Pattern Screamer theory, the Wendigo inspiration theory, and the Unseen Embodiment theory. I like the King of the Mountain theory too, but not as much as the other ones, since it has a couple inconsistences about the bodily transformation despite its strong evidence IMO. It's at the bottom of the liked list.
Spicy idea from @12:24 ! SCP-096 and SCP-323 are actually two halves of the same anomalous entity. The skull used to sit over 096's face, covering it entirely. In doing so, the urge to destroy observes was, ironically, neutralized. The fact 096 enters mindless rage state when his face is seen but resets to near-dormant otherwise, whereas 323-1 instances show a furious urge to devour voraciously but have a reluctance to do so suggests to me the parallels: 323-1 is trying to find its original host. It calls to nearby people, attempting to find someone who fits its cavity like Cinderella, and attempts to "correct" their body by shedding hair and growing elongated limbs, becoming resistant to physical trauma... but not fully. 096 however is passive, has adapted from the years of separation. No longer does he NEED to metabolise food (that's a human's problem), but he knows when his face is seen, something has been violated which the body needs to correct. So he kills and destroys the body (on instinct?), before calming down again. When the two are bought together, the face should be covered, 096 is safe again, and 323 has its true compatible host once more. I can't remember whether 096's head is bigger than 323's cavity (a human struggles to fit inside it), but that could be from exposure to the elements, or 096 somewhat "going to seed" from being apart for so long. Together.... I think they would be happier. And maybe 096 could use 323 to communicate. Maybe 323's insatiable appetite and truculence would be resolved by a host able to handle it properly. Or maybe everything will go to hell.
Adding onto that he is one of a species, I think he was a member of his species that was especially adventurous, but when he went far from that unknown location, he was seen but couldn't find his way home, and through the stress his primal instincts kicked in, making him what he is today.
The last one closely matches up with my own theory. Have you ever heard the story of Narcissus? A god ( or man in some stories) so attractive that he fell in love with his own reflection, and died when submerging himself in his reflection in a lake. What if he was only thought to die in that lake? There was a "rule" that he would live a long life, so long as he never discovered his appearance. What if this led the death of the man people knew him as; an embodiment of beauty. This would take away his charming mind, his objectively alluring appearance, but retain his divine longevity and strength. All of his pride washed away in his own reflection would drive him mad, and with the awareness of a god, who once took joy in others adoring his face, he would know whenever someone saw his new face. So long as no one saw his face, he would be remembered to be beautiful. So, in his twisted logic, killing others who saw his face made sure he was never seen as ugly. None the less, he would know the truth, and weep for eternity.
@@AlbertoCuellar2008 kinda annoying that people like you always appear in these comments because you're too unintelligent to comprehend anything with more than 5 sentences
@@AlbertoCuellar2008 if you have such a deficit attention span to the point where you can’t read a couple of paragraphs then you shouldn’t be in the SCP community my friend lol… it’s ALL about reading.. writing too.
okay but if there was a whole race of scp -096s would they freak out upon looking at each other and kill each other ? or would they be immune to each other ?
Ok so I have a theory about 096 but probably wrong, 096 was a small child that was not loved and very shy (obviously) and just got lost in mountains and just kinda froze to death and his body got Raincarnated into whatever 096 is now with traits that would help him survive the cold and things.
Here’s my theory. The shy guy was part of a nomadic group that lived in the mountains. He had significant facial deformities, hence the rage state’s cause. He was teased and bullied for this, and he sought help through the occult. He wrought upon himself a change that lended him incredible strength and speed. He just wanted to get back at those who teased him about his face, but instead annihilated all of the people who saw his face, the entirety of the group.
I always believed he was cursed way back in the ancient times. Explains why he doesnt age , revives and heals and feels sad after he had to kill people. The creature knows what he is and what he has done and hence the SHY part. It just fits automaticly.
I have a cool experiment idea to test on SCP-096 related to it being "seen". You know how there are some blind people that can sculpt a face from feeling it? 1) Does that count as being "seen"? 2) If you look at the sculpture, does it trigger SCP-096?
So I don't hold any authority on SCP lore, but: 2) artistic renditions canonically do not trigger 096's response. 1) in the When Day Breaks story, there is a blind child introduced and again, no response happens. 1b) there is also some speculation that 096 might ALSO be blind, since the rage states seem to be instinctual and follow the straightest line possible, rather than any visual or environmental guidance.
I have noted that he is very similar to scp 3008'submarine employees. Their attack methods are both extremely similare and, maybe, 3008 uses numbers to overwhelm it's victims, but 096 evolved to be more durable then those. With 3008 being kind of like the weak enemies that you would find in a video game, easy by themselves, but extremely dangerous in numbers, and 096 being, well... a final boss with an infinite health bar.
I think the SCP organization should try having blind d-class interact with the shy guy. Because during the when day breaks story he befriends the blind girl and even self destructs himself far away from her so he will not be able to take her out into the sun. Maybe having some blind D-class interacting and befriending the shy guy will bring out more of the brief glimpse of humanity we got to see in the sad when day breaks story. If I was blind I would actually love to try and interact with the shy guy to try and become his friend. Maybe all the guy needs is a good group of friends that are blind to calm down his instant rage state when his face is seen. I think introducing the shy guy to more and more blind D-class members would be a absolutely good thing and if there are any of the blind D-class members the shy guy doesn’t like just reassign them elsewhere in the organization. Because I am sure everyone of us has met someone that we just do not like and sometimes we cannot even give a proper reason as to why we do not like that particular person. So keep cycling in blind D-class members and keep the ones the shy guy likes inside the same containment cell until he is surrounded by a group of blind D-class members that the shy guy cares for and in turn the D-class care for the shy guy as well. I think the kindness the shy guy would experience from such a project might just put a damper on his rage state so he might be more forgiving to those that accidentally see his face versus those that actively seek out seeing his face. Maybe under the best circumstances possible the shy guy will lose his rage state altogether when he realizes that most people may find his appearance different but they only judge him by the quality and content of his character. I say this all because of his demonstration of his humanity with the little girl he befriends in the when day breaks scenario. I think there might actually be hope to make the world safer from the shy guy and in turn make the shy guy’s life more bearable now that he has some friends to share his life with. That’s just my opinion.
@@rf3162 did they try interacting with the shy guy via touch or some kind of interaction based on the D-Class making the first move to interact with the shy guy?
@@Declined469 From what I understand, a blind female D-Class was just instructed to enter the cell and wait. The D-Class was concerned that they could hear someone crying from somewhere across the room but was very reluctant to approach as they were aware of the stories of monsters and experiments. So after a long while of no reactions from 096, the scientists got bored and had the D-Class leave the cell without incident. This helped conclude that 096 could not actually "see" someone who was not aware of its face.
I thought something like the shy guy going through horrible genetic mutations, whether it be from an experiment gone wrong or being forced to be a guinea pig in an experiment, could have been what happened. The shy guy escaped, knew he was changing, and didn't want anyone looking at him. Eventually, over a period of time, the shy guy lost any memories from when he was still human.
Here's my little argument for the 049 theory, just because he makes janky zombies NOW, doesn't mean he has always made them, perhaps when 096 was created, he had more refined methods and experiments for curing people
I think scp 096 the original body for the mask (I forgot the number), that is why he hates being seen as his face had been hidden before. It also would make sense that he has the super healing to resist the acid the mask exerts
I belive that the shy guy is actually a fae, captured during a war by the Daevites, Audapaupadolis, the House of Apollyon or perhaps even scp-1000 (that last one may be a stretch though they may have been responsible for 4715 so I included them) who then tortured the Fae through anomalous means turning them into 096. That would explain its ability to know when it is being seen as well as its near indestructibility
I think he was a protector of an ancient city and helped people overcome their self doubts. One day an anonymous figure walked into the city and made everyone hate themselves, each other, and forced each other to go into hiding for fear of being hurt or abused. The protector did not take this kindly and started an angry fit at the anomalous being but would ultimately come to the same fate turning him from a protector to a monster that barged into the city's home and started killing like he does while the anomaly disappeared without A trace leaving this beast to it's worries until it went fully insane and went to the mountains and waited for thousands of years becoming pale and blank eyed after looking at snow for over a centry.
Since an encounter with 343 had him say "makes me hurt them", it makes me wonder if he's not a once normal guy being cursed with a memetic effect. Something like the damnatio memoriae where in addition to erasing his name from history's recording, he's been plagued with never being recognizable again. Either a despicable man, or a victim of a powerful reality bender who was jealous of him. Face being the most recognizable in a human being, what if the curse makes him kill anyone who could have a glimpse of it so his identity never gets known again? To spare people, a prolongued stay in caverns and overall unreachable places would have deformed his body, thus the pale appearance and deformed body
A lot of these theories (more than half) overlook the fact that SCP-096's reaction to being seen is itself anomalous. It psychically knows when a conscious being has seen it's face even if it is a photograph on the other side of the planet, and knows where the observer is. SCP-343 has also told a story of encountering it quite some time ago which if believed suggests it is not a recent creation. I like the theory that it is somehow an embodiment of body dysphoria. That fits with it's anomalous properties.
“Scp 096 can’t be a child of the scarlet king because he’s not smart or evil enough” Scp 999 is less evil and maybe only a little more intelligent scp 096 yet it’s still speculated to be a kid of the scarlet king while 096 isn’t
A wild theory I came up with is that what if he is a creation of the foundation. In the story of scp-001 the black moon the foundation tried and failed to make a object that when looked at was non-lethal so they could make the black moon stop howling. However while making the objects one of them went so wrong that scp-096 was created. Noone was able to document the creation of the shyguy as he killed all the researchers and fled. He weeps as he regrets the killing of his creators and he wishes to disappear as he doesn't like killing. He just kills as he is forced to when someone sees my face. This is just a theory I came up with.
Shyguy had that run in with God at one point and they didn't recognize each other which means he's not a natural entity. Greek mythology had many characters that are cursed in a similar way, take Medusa for example. So it's almost certain he was cursed by a higher being. The only questions I have is which one and can they control him? Let's say it was the scarlet king, what would happen if the scarlet king entered our dimension and looked at him? There's no doubt how he became the way that he is, the only question is who and why.
That pattern screamer theory is the best I’ve heard so far since it’s the only one that explains the shy guys seemingly omniscient ability to know when his face has been seen despite having no conceivable way of knowing.
Lancintags theory-6:39 Makes somewhat sense if we bring in the factor of scp-3008 as it is thought that multiple universes are connected to this anomaly Maybe the planet that 096 used to be on had an ikea and when the first ikea opened that had the anomalous properties of 3008 096 somehow made his way through, there have been people who’ve escaped from 3008’s grasp, so a monster with an indestructible skeleton would make it past a couple dudes made of skin, referring to 3008-1.
Here is my 096 theory: in Ancient Rome he was part of a group of MASSIVE great apes that lives in the mountains only eating certain plants being a pacifist species. His species was discovered and hunted to the brink of extinction for their fur with him being the sole survivor. He was captured and tortured because he was the strongest and most durable. In the coliseum he was forced to fight gladiators and lions, kept in a dark cage he would spend his time weeping and crying for his family and whenever and he then held a grudge against humanity for what they had done, but still having his peaceful instincts meant that he hated killing. As for the face thing every time his door what opened his rangler would lean down into his face and yell “Rise and shine beast!” Which he learned to associate seeing his face as meaning pane was about to come.
I just want to know if they've tried blindfolding a d-class while shy guy is in his docile/sad&weepy state, and just attempted to give the poor guy a hug and some comfort? I want to know the outcome of that!
The shy guy was a king from long ago, who was in love with his face (like narcissus), and who killed anyone who insulted it. As a punishment, some divine being (like 343) cursed him to become horrid and disfigured, and to become even more self conscious. They also cursed him to be immortal. The hatred for those who see his face fuels him to kill them, and so many years of pain makes him want to die.
My theory: 096 is a leftover prototype weapon from the Seventh Occult War, he was a created in a Nazi occult lab located deep in the Bavarian Alps by the Obskurakorps from a concentration camp inmate whose mind was wiped and who was bonded with the flesh of Sæhrímnir in sarkic rituals. Obskura wanted to create indestructible living weapons who were programmed to wipe out entire armies. The facial trigger was so he'd keep killing without needing handlers present, with exemptions needing to be programmed in, starting with the Obskura scientists and Hitler 1/2
I know it’s likely he has NO origin, but I actually really like the idea of him being the embodiment of body dysmorphia. Not only does the whole thing with his face make sense, but it may also explain his skin and bones appearance, possibly representing conditions such as anorexia.
I wonder if anyone has ever tried to put a full face mask on 096 to see if a person could look at it without triggering its rage state if it's face was hidden behind a mask
8:27 I have to agree on the Scarlet King one but hear me out. The Shy Guy was the sixth child of the Scarlet King prophesied as “Lack”, born as an all-sense congenito-hazard and an info-hazard, anyone who heard, saw, talked about etc. would be placed on his tracker and picked off extremely quickly hence going unnoticed while moving about and destroying. The portal for the Scarlet King to enter our world would open when the time was right after the sighting of 096’s face. At some point in the ever so long and confusing timeline though, a target was on part of some random mountain range. Nobody else heard or saw anything of 096 for a very long time. In that time the Shy Guy thought about his nature and what he had seen over his hunting missions, at some point he decided he wasn’t going to help his father destroy our universe and therefore chose to ignore everything else besides sighting of his face in fear of summoning the Scarlet King. The years went by and 096 had few targets to deal with, but in that time he developed a habit of quickly getting to and destroying anything that saw his face, no matter the cost. In the modern section of the timeline, 096 doesn’t get any effect when someone or something talks or sees him, as long as it wasn’t his face. He gets depressed and cries all the time because he knows it’s inevitable that someone, somewhere will see his face, the Scarlet King will rise, and it’s all his fault.
Here’s one, a man was walking through the snowy mountains and sadly a competitor to the SCP foundation he was experimented on and eventually he was tested on a virus he absorbed the virus, all of it and he slowly mutated and he had a the repeating words in his head “No look at me face, no want hurt!” And the competitor to SCP, well the site doesn’t exist.
The idea that he was a demon summoned by a cult seems more believable than the other ones, at least referencing the other shy guy video you guys made "shy guy vs god" so shy guy has to be at least thousands of years old and he was summoned by a cult all those years ago
I like the one about him being the manifestation of the unseen, and I have an idea as to how he would suddenly be seen; The foundation performs experiments into the human knowosphere, and in the process witnesses the innate knowledge of the unseen while within the knowosphere, and in the process witnesses the unseen, and gives form to the shy guy as a result. They saw its form, not its face, so it does not hunt them, but it exists now regardless
The wendigo theory reminded me of something along the lines of the Baba Yaga, maybe some sort of being related to it? or it somehow left it's cabin and can't find a way back. It attacks those who see it, hoping to find a way back through their souls guiding it to its home again.
Tbh, the Shy Guy does *seem* to take a lot of inspiration from the Wendigo and Endermen (heck he even screams upon being looked at and has disproportionately long arms). It's possible the creator was thinking of them when creating 096.
my theory kind of goes along with the no face theory. the reason he attacks people is because he thinks he can get their face. he wants a face. but he can never get one so when he feels someone looking at his "face" he attacks them, in hope of gaining their face. its kind of like mindless titans from aot. they eat humans in hope of that human having titan powers and being able to be come human again.
I feel like a lot of the theories miss how the shy guy knows when you've remotely looked at an image of his face. I got a theory though, maybe he was an extremely shy D-class, who didn't like his appearance etc, who was put into SCP-914 on the Very Fine setting as part of a test
Their was a theorie I heard where 096 was a human and climbing up Mount everest, soon he saw 1529 and was tormented for year forced to climb and climb while 1529 stared at him with its eyes. When 1529 let him go he was transformed in the monster we know now and whenever someone looks at his face he feels the eyes of 1529 staring at him
The shy guy was a creation of scp 4335 and made to be a updated and stronger version of a emderman sent by scp 4335 to destroy the scp foundation and anything in its way
I believe 096, along with many other SCPs could be an accidental creations of SCP-3004, Imago. 3004 has the ability to alter our reality just by observing it, but it's lack of context ends up twisting it in bizarre and often deadly ways. Many SCPs, especially the older ones, are based on puns or common phrases taken to a anomalous level of literalism. Imago could have popped its head into our reality, overheard the phrase 'Shy Guy', took everything it knew about shyness and guyness and brain-farted a creature into being whose sole purpose is to avoid being acknowledged at all cost.
Maybe SCP-096 was a very shy man, and as he grew, his shyness grew and affected his body, mind, and attitude, malforming him into the monster he is now. But he is still human, he does not want to hurt others, but his shyness forces him to grow in anger and kill them.
Whatever its origins, I like to believe (if this isn't already confirmed) that the shy guy is a very remorseful being. He isolates because he is trying not to do harm, but can't help but attack those who see his face. This is also why he is always sad. He's lonely, and guilty because of the lives he's taken. Also, he isn't a very intelligent being, but still an emotional one and has a vague understanding of harm, and what not
I think he was once a child that was mocked and bullied for his appearance by pretty much everyone, to the point he would feel extremely emotional when people would look at his face as they would judge him. But after being taken in by people who didn't judge him, he felt loved for once, but that group were a cult of the Scarlet King that wanted to create a monster and use it as a weapon, and they only pretended to care for him because if the ritual failed and he died, no one is going to miss him. But during the ritual, around halfway through, the cult was busted and 096 was created. All of that sorrow and rage from being bullied and abused and fake love given to him only to he used like that had resulted in a creature that wants nothing more than isolation, but will feel the urge to kill and destroy when one views his face, the ritual cursing him with unnatural strength, speed, unlimited endurance, a virtually indestructibles skeleton and the rage of the Scarlet King.
What if SCP-096 was a normal human from hundreds of years B.C. But something was off, there was something anomalous about it. As a child, when someone viewed its face, it did not kill, only cried, because the pain was not that severe. But in its adulthood, the pain grew. More and more pain and anger started boiling up, until the human snapped. I think this fits, as other anomalies seemingly just 'pops' into existence.
I love the research and knowledge of folklore and deity’s things like that I personally love his theory. I gotta give him some respect and relatedness for a fellow nerd who loves that stuff as well. GG mate glad ya made itr into the episode
My theory is shy guy was someone that was lost in the mountain year’s ago and ripped out his nerves that prevents him from feeling pain and somehow got the healing ability that’s stronger than deadpools, and built up his speed and strength over the years and due to poor hygiene his face and body became hideous and pale in which made him hate his view so much he could sense when people saw it causing him to hunt down and kill everyone that has.
Something you might not know is tht 096 might ne a natural sceecies that had to evolve during the meteor strike millions of years ago as it had to protect it self from bigger creatures
shy guy was a poor child who was bullied daily for his facial appearance, and so he went into hiding. one day, the devil, disguised as his therapist, made a deal with him to make them pay... and so the shy guy was born. after a few days of his demonic rage at people who saw his face in person, he developed a sense of if someone was looking at a picture of him as well. then, soon, he could sense everything that they saw his face in. he developed longer arms and legs, for hunting down those who shamed his face by seeing it. he knows only pain. :(
Maybe it was an accident involving The Clockworks, in which it was discovered by two or more people who experimented with it's capabilities. They upgraded certain items on Fine and Very Fine, with Very Fine leading to a few new anomalies that might've been previously selt to CI or other sources (like the toaster for example), but this inevitably ended in one member being pressured into entering. Instead of going for Fine, either through experiments with humans leading to the average, they went for Very Fine. This upgraded the human massively and their one lingering thought of "stop looking at me" to avoid being pressured created SCP-096. The Clockworks on Very Fine creates anomalous traits and, when tested with humans, produces a low-intelligence being (just like 096) that is aggressive towards all form of life with enhanced strength. Yet, the final thought of "stop looking at me" that was created either at the beginning or end of the procedure limited the aggressiveness (this could've also been a personality trait gained from the amount of expecting eyes) to put that thought into action.

I believe he was part of an ancient species related to both SCP-682 and SCP-173’s own species, hence his seemingly Immortalness and ruthless killing efficiency. Because of the two species’ rivalry, both mocked his for being related to the other, Hence his self consciousness and not wanting to be looked at. After the 173s nearly exterminated the 682s, his kind went on to wage war with the 173s, leaving only one of each species left. This theory also supports 343’s story about 096.
Not so much an origin theory, but a theory about 096 in general. All these theories point to the Shy Guy being somewhat recent, but I think it’s much older, perhaps even ancient, and it’s only become majorly problematic since the advent of human image recording technology. Prior to photography, the only way to see the Shy Guy’s face would be in person, and someone who did see it wouldn’t last long enough to lead it to anyone else, and someone who saw it but missed its face wouldn’t bring any method of triggering 096 home with it.
What if shy guy actually came from Roman origins, he was a man who was arrested and had his face tortured making him look extremely ugly and having extremely vengeful thoughts, after Rome fell his cell was crashed and he was stuck under the rubble, all those years gave him time to think of exactly what he was going to do when he got out, his body went through a strange transforming state after being stuck under the rubble for so long and bacteria kept entering his body, the bacteria made him into the shy guy causing him to break out with the vengeful thought of how he will kill anyone who saw his face. (This theory I just made up so it’s not that good)
I think I disproved The mountain king theory because the mountain king resembles a modern day climber but we know that 096 is vey old because Scp explained has a video where god fights 096 very long ago same thing with the no face god saw his face and that disproves that
I think the shy guy was a regular guy who was bullied. Then one day he was in a snowy day then he couldn’t take all of the bullies making fun of him. Then he became pale and then he became very aggressive then killed anyone who looked at him. But if shy guy was a child of the scarlet king he will probably be not the favorite but not the hated. Because the reason he isn’t the favorite is because he is shy but the reason isn’t the hated is because he can kill people brutally. Good theory am I right?
For the plaguedoctor theory he could have stopped making the "Zombies" efficient after his experience with 096 as a safety-precaution of sorts. Making it potentially more viable.
the shy guy was climbing the hardest mountain when he ran into the mountain king who cursed him to never die and to be stuck in an endless loop of climbing the mountain for centuries until he was set free and became insecure about his looks
The shy guy was a normal man that was bitten by a radioactive socially awkward anxious spider
Nice joke that can explode my neck if I look at that spider
I think he was a lost soul on it's way to it's destination after death but ended up in a dead, soulless corpse. The body was misshapen and turned a ghostly pale white, and grew to immense heights of how tall he is. The soul did sad and of embarrassment, so it carried over in his new body. This was possibly in biblical times too.
I saw it happen… it was awkward…

Personally I love the Pattern Screamer theory, or something along those lines (5:27). 096's face is completely nonexistent, but the human mind fills in the blanks. 096 can psychically sense this response, and cannot stand it... 096 would rather be _entirely_ nonexistent.
EDIT: People would always perceive the _same_ face because of some universal trait hidden deep in the human psyche.
It just sort of made sense to me that it could be. What else in the SCP universe reacts so violently to being perceived other than pattern screamers
I wonder if that "universal trait" could be at all similar to the "It" from SCP-5000
So some quantum stuff?

The 049 theory is pretty interesting, I'm also curious about blind d-class interactions with shy guy, that'd be pretty cool to watch

What if he's just a tall guy with bad anxiety issues?
You called?
Lmao
Ah yes, anxiety, the mental illness that gives you super strength, immortality and the ability to know if someone looked at your face even if it was only 1 pixel in a old photo
lame but logical
He’s also a immortal and any damage done to him can be repaired
Everything about 096 screams a curse by the Greek gods.
So in The SCP universe he was probably just cursed by a god or a very powerful reality warper.
Maybe he doesn't hate everyone and doesn't want to kill people
@@pissyjorts3993 I mean, maybe he does hate. But he DOES have anxiety.
This may explain why they became traumatized after fighting each other.
I heard a story which I'm pretty sure involved 343 but it might have been the plage doctor looking into the shy guys mind and seeing him being mocked by a group of other children. Perhaps the other children were other children of the scarlet king and mocked him for his lack of bloodlust.
@@NovumDoesObservation He don´t kill people that don´t see his face.
He won’t wear a bag over his head.
5:40 the best origin theory just love that theory
The ones I like are the Pattern Screamer theory, the Wendigo inspiration theory, and the Unseen Embodiment theory. I like the King of the Mountain theory too, but not as much as the other ones, since it has a couple inconsistences about the bodily transformation despite its strong evidence IMO. It's at the bottom of the liked list.
The pattern screamed is definitely a good one. Whoever came up with it is clever
That sounds like a perfect fit.
The theory that 096's face is a Pattern Screamer is the most interesting and makes the most sense in my opinion.
Adding onto that he is one of a species, I think he was a member of his species that was especially adventurous, but when he went far from that unknown location, he was seen but couldn't find his way home, and through the stress his primal instincts kicked in, making him what he is today.
Maybe SCP-4335 was trying to make endermen in real life so they could destroy the world for him but it wasn’t black so you could see more at night.

So I don't hold any authority on SCP lore, but:
2) artistic renditions canonically do not trigger 096's response.
This has actually already been done in an experiment. Shy guy didn't even acknowledge the D-Class was even there.

10:26 this isn't posible because 049 didn't know 096 existed untill the breach when he removed 096's brain

“Scp 096 can’t be a child of the scarlet king because he’s not smart or evil enough”
Scp 999 is less evil and maybe only a little more intelligent scp 096 yet it’s still speculated to be a kid of the scarlet king while 096 isn’t
9:48 This theory is ironic in a way, because the Shy Guy wants to become unknown and yet it is one of the most popular and well known SCPs.
Cool theory!!
Lancintags theory-6:39
Makes somewhat sense if we bring in the factor of scp-3008 as it is thought that multiple universes are connected to this anomaly
Maybe the planet that 096 used to be on had an ikea and when the first ikea opened that had the anomalous properties of 3008 096 somehow made his way through, there have been people who’ve escaped from 3008’s grasp, so a monster with an indestructible skeleton would make it past a couple dudes made of skin, referring to 3008-1.
As for the face thing every time his door what opened his rangler would lean down into his face and yell “Rise and shine beast!” Which he learned to associate seeing his face as meaning pane was about to come.
i like this theory, it makes him more human
I just want to know if they've tried blindfolding a d-class while shy guy is in his docile/sad&weepy state, and just attempted to give the poor guy a hug and some comfort? I want to know the outcome of that!
Blind roommate.
Kind of like a Beauty and the Beast kind of thing?
@@girthbrooks398 yeah
This is actually a really good theory. Somewhat similar to my own. Consider writing a tale on the SCP wiki.
10:55 is false because of 096s ability to transport to you and kill you if you see it in a photo
6:52 i believe this theory can be tested by sending the one who saw his face to space for like 5 days or something
Because what?
Looks like Zeruel got got. RIP
Here’s one, a man was walking through the snowy mountains and sadly a competitor to the SCP foundation he was experimented on and eventually he was tested on a virus he absorbed the virus, all of it and he slowly mutated and he had a the repeating words in his head
“No look at me face, no want hurt!” And the competitor to SCP, well the site doesn’t exist.
The idea that he was a demon summoned by a cult seems more believable than the other ones, at least referencing the other shy guy video you guys made "shy guy vs god" so shy guy has to be at least thousands of years old and he was summoned by a cult all those years ago
I like the one about him being the manifestation of the unseen, and I have an idea as to how he would suddenly be seen;
The foundation performs experiments into the human knowosphere, and in the process witnesses the innate knowledge of the unseen while within the knowosphere, and in the process witnesses the unseen, and gives form to the shy guy as a result. They saw its form, not its face, so it does not hunt them, but it exists now regardless
So it's the foundation typical
The wendigo theory reminded me of something along the lines of the Baba Yaga, maybe some sort of being related to it? or it somehow left it's cabin and can't find a way back. It attacks those who see it, hoping to find a way back through their souls guiding it to its home again.
Tbh, the Shy Guy does *seem* to take a lot of inspiration from the Wendigo and Endermen (heck he even screams upon being looked at and has disproportionately long arms). It's possible the creator was thinking of them when creating 096.
Personally, I think he’s just a not-so-little guy with severe social anxiety
my theory kind of goes along with the no face theory. the reason he attacks people is because he thinks he can get their face. he wants a face. but he can never get one so when he feels someone looking at his "face" he attacks them, in hope of gaining their face. its kind of like mindless titans from aot. they eat humans in hope of that human having titan powers and being able to be come human again.
When 1529 let him go he was transformed in the monster we know now and whenever someone looks at his face he feels the eyes of 1529 staring at him
I prolly favorite the "He wants to finnish being nothing" or the "he is all of the unseen"
But he is still human, he does not want to hurt others, but his shyness forces him to grow in anger and kill them.
doesent explain why he can kill you by just looking at a photo.
sonic
Next Video: “What if SCP-096 put on the Wendigo Skull? SCP Theory”
It's a bit more than a theory when they even know the D classes name lmao
My theory is shy guy was someone that was lost in the mountain year’s ago and ripped out his nerves that prevents him from feeling pain and somehow got the healing ability that’s stronger than deadpools, and built up his speed and strength over the years and due to poor hygiene his face and body became hideous and pale in which made him hate his view so much he could sense when people saw it causing him to hunt down and kill everyone that has.
I feel bad for scp 096 almost like giving him a hug
Wait wait, hear me out, what if 096 is a Enderman that got teleported in this world, deformed to be more durable and white to adapt the mountains??
9:23 "He is the physical manifestation of all things unseen, the sound of a falling tree, the transparent skin of fish in the abyssal zone, development of Halflife 3" 🤭
That's brilliant 😂
(This theory I just made up so it’s not that good)
I think I disproved The mountain king theory because the mountain king resembles a modern day climber but we know that
096 is vey old because Scp explained has a video where god fights 096 very long ago same thing with the no face god saw his face and that disproves that
I think the shy guy was a regular guy who was bullied.
Cool video.
For the plaguedoctor theory he could have stopped making the "Zombies" efficient after his experience with 096 as a safety-precaution of sorts. Making it potentially more viable.
8:34 if im not mistaken he is said to be the fourth child
the shy guy was climbing the hardest mountain when he ran into the mountain king who cursed him to never die and to be stuck in an endless loop of climbing the mountain for centuries until he was set free and became insecure about his looks
If you gave the shy guy sunglasses and a gas mask and look at him would he still go in his rage state?
