Tbh, I was hopeful the whole way. Maybe it's because I was just happy that Sega was posting another game after a whole lot of years. I was a tiny bit down during the fall, but I was still hopeful and I'm glad it was worth it. I just hope the game will be good tho. Anyways first, and good video!
I cant in good conscience stay optimistic when things look bad. Sonic team managed to flub a concept as great as sonic forces. As much as I want frontiers to be good, and I do believe sonic team can make good games, they dont have a clean track record. Yada yada sonic cycle you get the jist.
I can only talk about my own experience and perspective about the ride that is Sonic Frontiers' Pre-Release Cycle. When the initial Gameplay was revealed, I won't lie, it wasn't what I was expecting, but after I say down and just took it in, I ended up feeling alot better about what I saw. I stayed optimistic, and even when news dropped about stuff like Cyberspace using old level themes, I honestly just didn't care. I believe a game is good or not if it provides fun, and I feel Frontiers won't JUST do that, but also show what the next decade of Sonic will end up being like. Many who have played the demo have been fairly hopeful and positive about it, and I'll be trying it out in September in London, so hopefully I can come out of my experience with a good feeling. I think even if Frontiers fails, I believe the ending will lead to the foundation of the game being solid enough to where Sonic Team sticks with it.
Agreed. I just don't want many people before playing the game just say its bad. Some sonic fans just jump to conclusions too quickly and I don't think its good. Everyone should know that Sega is trying their best and they're are not a machine made to do everything perfect
Having a game formula to use for the next game is what they should've done after Sonic Generations, and yet :'] I hope they do keep and refine the gameplay for more than 2/3 games for once without extra gimicks...
I like this game soo far but there's one thing that kinda made me sad. I honestly don't know what some sonic fans want but they should know this. Sega is trying their best they want to make a good sonic game but with some fans just saying they haven't made a good sonic game in a while upsets me a little bit. I hope my comment is read by a lot of people and I want you to know they're people like you and not a machine made to do everything perfect. Also I want to say I love generations, colors and forces because they're a part of my childhood and I like them and i don't care what people say about them.
@@jasonblack2477 So, based on your logic. We should harass Sega about the game needing improvements not giving them time to focus on one thing at a time, causing them to rush the game, and make it an unplayable mess like 06 was?

I’ll be honest, I don’t get where the supposed “fall” perception even started. The first gameplay wasn’t nearly enough to go on to try to determine how the whole product would be, since it was just running around an open world with no direction, text, or anything, literally just an engine showcase. Do the same thing with, say, Breath of the Wild, just meandering around Hyrule, killing enemies, and climbing things, and it would look just as directionless and empty. It was just meant to show gameplay, which I interpreted as a good sign-Sonic games showing gameplay first before building hype with story or other superfluous things is a rarity and shows how confident they are with the gameplay itself. Moreover it was dev footage, and as a dev myself, I was shocked at how solid it looked so long before release. A few bits of polish here and there and it could have been seen as complete. And yet it was enough for everyone to turn on the game and leap to unfounded conclusions with barely any evidence backing them, seemingly out of an innate desire to see the series fail no matter how much they said they wanted it to succeed. And when more came out and their original assumptions, which shouldn’t have been made as public and venomous as they were in the first place, got proven to be as biased and shortsighted as they were, so many dug their heels in and denied their lying eyes even when it made them look foolish to do so. Only one person I know has taken a more measured stance, and he’s not even a conventional Sonic fan (Choctopus). Do I think the game will be a masterpiece? Probably not, but it sure seems like it will be fun, engaging, and open-ended, and that’s what I want out of it. But to continue to say it’s going to be hot garbage when every look is getting better and better (like most games ending dev cycle do) and most people who’ve played it say it’s surprisingly fun-including those who’ve shown disdain for the series beforehand-is just baffling to me. It’s shown a lot of true colors, I think, showing who’s critical out of a desire for the series’ improvement, and who’s critical just to further their own careers. The former would be taking a measured stance, but the latter would be, as they are, continuing to insist the game looks like trash to try to cling on to their own branding.
Sorry, sorry if you criticize for mentioning this and if you are not interesting in anything I will make this comment say, but I also really really really wish Mario and his friends had many 3D adventures being pure dramatic, serious, and awesome comparable to the adventures of Sonic and his own friends. I wish it was not true only if such imaginary games can and will never be confirmed. The fact Mario and Sonic can be seen meeting, I would like it if Mario and the others had different daring adventures.
This is the video I wasn't searching, but I needed. The perfect balance of subjectivity and objectiviy, with all the basic information included. Let's hope that this game is the one that the franchise desperately searched. Great job man, I was captivated from start to finish. Good luck in your future! 💯
Honestly, I know this game isn't what all Sonic fans want, granted so many want different things, but personally, if the combat is satisfying and interesting, it controls well, the stage design is good and the open zone is fun, I'll definitely really enjoy this game. And supposedly many of those things are the case. I'm especially happy the controls seem to be better than other Boost games. I look forward to spending some good time in this game.
Well, if I can get myself to enjoy Sonic P-06 and vanilla Shadow 05, I have no doubt that I'll love Sonic Frontiers... there's no reason for me to be anything but optimistic about a Sonic game that ENCOURAGES the player to explore, with Sonic's speed and moveset!
Honestly I liked this game from the beginning, but still got a little dissapointed, it was not the mommentum based game I expected, but that didnt stop me from appreciating the game for what it is, but man those were hard times everybody throwed crap at the game, defenders got way too rude sometimes (including me) and overall I felt really worried if the game was going to be good, but I forgot the only important thing, FUN FACTOR, the thing that Sonic Frontiers definitely has, but from there almost everything is uphill, the new gameplay clips released, people who played it said it was actually pretty fun, and Nintendo mini trailer arrived, Oh boy was it amazing, and I have really enjoyed the ride on the wait for this game to be released, I know there are many people that still arent convinced with this game, but If I know one thing, I will love this game and I dont care what people say. Im Hyped for the game Im a classic sonic fan and I believe this game will be stunning to just explore and run around with Sonic's new speed and abilities
I got more optimistic over the course of the month as we saw more of the game. It makes me wish we had just gotten the Nintendo Direct trailer first, and then the gameplay videos. I'm still fairly cautious, however. Sonic games over the last 5 years, even when they're decent titles, still feel like they didn't receive the polish or time they needed. Forces felt rushed and underwhelming; Team Sonic Racing was good but lacking in content and had terrible connection issues; Mario & Sonic 2020 was underwhelming; and both Sonic Colors Ultimate and Sonic Origins should've been simple enough remasters, but both came out in a broken and buggy state with bug fixes taking months. I'm not saying any of these games are bad or unplayable, but it makes me worried that SEGA won't polish Frontiers to the degree it needs to be polished. Hopefully I'm wrong, but I'm concerned many of the issues we're seeing in these early gameplay builds will reflect the final product.
I feel that it's worth mentioning the music used in each trailer. The original IGN gameplay used a soft piano track that felt completely alienated from the signature musical style of Sonic games. In the Nintendo trailer, there's an epic track loaded with multiple guitars, absolutely phenomenal drum playing, and even something akin to a synthesized orchestra. The music in the Nintendo trailer has the true Sonic style that makes me want to compare it to Sonic Unleashed as well as Sonic and the Black Knight.
You can really see what I mean if you take a look at this video by Sonic Guitars, where it's the IGN footage with added Jun Senoue inspired flair. ua-cam.com/video/Zw_GX5YnX1o/v-deo.html
Yeh the first gameplay trailer did look pretty unpolished with items kind of just appearing as you run. The 2nd trailer got me really hyped though! I'm sure they will probably fix these things before the release but of course Sega cant meet the expectations of every fan.
I really really really miss the great old times. I miss the 3D Sonic the Hedgehog games. Most of them had many exciting, and interesting cutscenes. Sorry if you do not know anything or if you criticize, but I wish I knew what happened to the times of showing cutscenes like there were those many times. They were such great events seen those many times. I miss the rivals and once new ones Sonic and his friends met and had rivalries with. Sonic Frontiers will be exciting, but I wish there were some or even many more games much sooner.
im starting to feel how the game controls and plays because of how much i watched the better trailers and i think the biggest take away might be that you are just gonna press square for combat.
You summed it all up perfectly, though I wish you could've also talked about how the fanbase went on a riot after the ign showcase but either way, ya did great here, and as a big sonic fan since age of 5, im super optimistic and hopeful for this game to succeed
Don’t even play sonic that much, but after all this, marketing looks so much better and much more fun to play, LITERALLY LIKE FALLOUT 76 launch at first, then might become a beautiful and powerful game
I really hope this game is good, and they said that if this game is well received, they will implement the formula into future Sonic games, I hope that for the next game, E3 won't be cancelled that year, because we never realized how important E3 was for the marketing of Sonic games until now
The rise and the fall and then the rise and then the fall and then the rise and then the fall and then the rise and then the fall and then the rise I wonder if anybody's going to put that as a UA-cam title in the future because at this point it's just a roller coaster
Dude, seriously. I watched your entire video and only then did I go to see the amount of subscribers and likes, and I was impressed by the amount so low. Your content is very well done, keep it up!
Sega honestly is one of that companies I'll never capable of understand, they do so stupid decions, why the fuck did you want to show a early build from your product? Is not better show the best possible version? And the fact that they don't even care about our opinions, give me the feeling that the only way Sonic may succed as a brand again is if somehow they make a Sonic game wich both critics and fans will like it. So maybe, just maybe we will get a consistent formula.
There are alot of reasons to show off an earlier build. the current build their working on may not be in a finished enough state to show off. Game devs do this all the time. its rare that they show off the absolute most recent build of a game in progress... Im personally glad that ST isnt directly listening to fans anymore. They need to start doing what THEY want so we can get more passionate projects instead of just trying to listen to a huge diverse fanbase that doesnt collectively know what it wants. theyre never gonna win if they do that.
Pretty good video, but I've got a few lil gripes - Too much dead space, due to how many transitions there are - going more in depth about your problems with the IGN footage would've been helpful to prove your point, as well as extend the run time of the video - 8:53 I think saying "when you play it, if it's a good game to you..." would make more sense, as nobody in the general public has played the game, therefore you can't base an opinion on it just yet. Still a good video though, you earned my sub.
I feel like finished gameplay for the game should seem much better than the original showcase, so I'll probably buy and hope it's not a disappointment, and only because I love Sonic and open world games
I think the gamersprey gameplay looks way better, but I still don't like the reused forces assets And the way the trailers still use the better looking model the same way forces did and the box art will probably do the same
From the start, I really liked the gameplay, the only thing I care about in games are the visual's. So, I AM VERY excited for this game to drop, I never doubted it, even from the start.
None of the trailers got me hyped. Maybe its because i'm from an older time, maybe its because i'm so jaded from years upon years of series I loved being completely run into the ground, or maybe its because its being written by Ian "big oof" Flynn which doesn't inspire much confidence that its writing will be better than the last decade. Regardless of why, to me it hasn't looked good since the beginning, with fan reactions almost perfectly lining up with Halo's fanbase following Halo Infinites prerelease circuit.
Tbh I feel people got more hype up just because the trailer editing made the game look more better than it actually is because... it still the same game, all of what they show was already saw in the other gameplays plus some minor thinks
glad to see someone went on similar ups and downs with this game, hopefully it can get improved even more before launch but even if it doesn't it should be better than forces
I'm pretty hyped for the game , and I never really agreed for the graphics being bad. Then again I have never been one for graphics being up to a certain standard, I mean SA2 is one of my favorite games and look at the graphics there. The game every I see it gets better and better, which makes me so hopeful. I love the combat already, its such a fun take on Sonic and he needed it. I feel like we haven't gotten anything new when it comes to him in such a long time, and it made him lacking compared to eveyone else. I mean we got unleashed by that game came out what?? 2008 i believe??? I love the look of a lot of the new enemies as we've only had the same Eggman/gun robots for a while now. They each have different attack as well and looks like we don't just boost through them. Maybe it's cause I've been playing Forces a lot recently (doing a rewrite for my friends) but I'm just excited for anything now. If its better than Forces then I'll be happy.
I thought this video from another popular channel talked about these things. But after watching the whole video and checking your subscribers, no. You were not him. This video is so great that I thought this was a professional essay channel or something. Every history that sonic frontiers had is in this video. We can just listen and understand what happened to the new sonic game. But you should change the font in the 6:02 because it hurts my eyes when I try to read it. Anyway, this is my thought on sonic frontiers. First, the game's concept is good. Open world modern sonic game. Just awesome. The idea was great, and the combat system was good. However, the open world zone has some problems. We can't just put a lot of platforms. Like, in the gameplay video there are a lot of rails and factitious platforms. Without them, there will be almost nothing in the open world zone. I wish they change some designs of these platforms and more. It just not fitting to the feel of the field. It also looks dirty like in the 7:54 of this video. Second, the physics. The physics of sonic is just like better forces physics. If the "cyber space" zone is designed to feel the speed of the sonic, this is not a good physics for it. No momentum. Yes. This is all the thing that I can say. The game needs momentum. I heard that the team is adding a drop dash for sonic but yes, it's not enough. Just adding momentum thing will make the game much better. Third, the graphics. Nothing to say. It's good. Just improving graphics in the PC version of the game will be great. Conclusion. All thing that we can do is wish SEGA not to ruin the game like sonic origins. That's all. Sorry for some grammar issues, I'm using dirty Grammarly and I suck at English lmao
A lot of the people who played at SGF are you saying it's amazing, like Mitchell Saltzman and Brian Shea, they are all saying that this game has more potential than any other 3D Sonic game
Most say it will be a bad sonic Game I disagree.. most saw the “gameplay” and right away say it’s going to be bad.. my advice to the fans for whatever game is to wait and don’t say it’s going to be a bad game until it’s officially done.. once you buy the game and play the game then give your thoughts about the game and maybe it.. maybe Sega will see it and one day on the next Sonic game they will improve..
Really enjoyed hearing your take on this. I really couldnt agree with you more about the switch trailer too. That gameplay showcase was so exciting for a long time fan like me that is very hopeful for the game. Hopefully this will be the best sonic game in the last decade.
Kinda early af to be making hot take video essays on a game thats not out to play yet however this would be a great video with the opinion from a full play through like a year after.
Hey...is it possible that you could make a Video about the Game "Sonic Studio"? It's an (as of yet) unreleased Game that's kinda basically Sonic's Version of "Super Mario Maker"
6:00 so basically people got too much hopes, weren't patient for more news and already saw it as another failure of games even though it all was an early build. Man, why am I not surprised
I think fans are just afraid of another bad Sonic game. Quite honestly, the franchise can't afford it, especially after forces, and especially all the attention the 2 successful movies brought. The game cannot be mid or just ok. The franchise been having "ok" games for over a decade. With Generations and Unleashed being the last good ones. At first, I was disappointed from the ign video, but the gameplay and the commentary was much better. The game has promise, even though it's not what we intended.
1. What we saw was a tech demo of the game 2. He never mentioned anything about a downloadable demo so I don’t know what you’re talking about. 3. If it was a demo how much do you think it would cost? Obviously $0. 4. Why ask in the comment section when Google exists?
How exactly can you talk about the rise of fall for a game that literally isn't even out? You shouldn't base your opinion on a game off of footage, because you don't know how it feels to play.
Is Sonic for kids? I do believe it is but the amount of older fans complaining about the physics and how it looks and is like makes it feel like Sonic is just for adults and teenagers to complain about how Sonic isn't what it used to be. I've seen so many people complain about how Sonic's physics are weird and are comparing them to previous games is absolutely irritating because kids playing the game wouldn't criticize or complain about things like physics or how it is too realistic or whatever, they would either play the game or do something else and they would not complain about the smallest of things such as physics.
I’ll start off by saying this game didn’t look great from the beginning. Currently I’m more cautiously optimistic, but I just don’t like being there 24/7, I want faith, and Sonic Team hasn’t earned any of it in recent years. Even if this game is good, who’s to say the next one will be? Or the one after that? I just want consistently good titles ya feel? My biggest distaste for this game is the huge divide it has done. Actual criticism for the game gets drown out by people just saying “game bad and buggy like 06 BLAH BLAH” and anyone who is excited gets lumped in wit the defense squad “you can’t judge a game based on a trailer they gave to show it off? You haven’t played it? The game is gonna be great! We didn’t go through the same thing with Sonic Forces”. Atleast we all agree the marketing has been dog water. I want this game to be great, I just don’t have full faith it will be, and I’m basically ready for either outcome. Think the worst part of it being great is people saying “see, you had nothing to worry about” acting like the series is consistent and ST has made nothing but great games and stuff. We have our reasons for being cautious about anything sonic, sometimes it just don’t pan out. If imma be honest, the open world…ahem “”open zone”” seems kinda boring and not very engaging. I also don’t know why they just don’t call it a sand box? (Poor marketing maybe? It’s bound to confuse people who aren’t in the know) the cyberspace levels need to be well designed, but if they are forces levels the game is just gonna be mid. Personally also not huge on revisiting older areas, it’s a cute little nod, but I would be lying if I said I’m not super into seeing Green Hill again. I also think expectations are too low for SONIC THE FUCKIN HEDGEHOG one of the greatest gaming icons of all time. If the game is good or even just ok, I know it’s gonna be praised to high heavens like it’s the second coming of Christ, better than most games In recent years. I’m just not a fan of how low the bar has gotten.

The game ain’t even out yet and this shit happening already 💀
Yeh the first gameplay trailer did look pretty unpolished with items kind of just appearing as you run.
The 2nd trailer got me really hyped though! I'm sure they will probably fix these things before the release but of course Sega cant meet the expectations of every fan.
Why ya’ll making these types of videos before the games even out yet like WHAT?!
Sonic Frontiers will be exciting, but I wish there were some or even many more games much sooner.
im starting to feel how the game controls and plays because of how much i watched the better trailers and i think the biggest take away might be that you are just gonna press square for combat.
they already stated that theres an "easy mode" were its just 1 button input and theres a standard mode that has more variation in buttons and combos
Bro the game hasn’t released
You summed it all up perfectly, though I wish you could've also talked about how the fanbase went on a riot after the ign showcase but either way, ya did great here, and as a big sonic fan since age of 5, im super optimistic and hopeful for this game to succeed
Don’t even play sonic that much, but after all this, marketing looks so much better and much more fun to play, LITERALLY LIKE FALLOUT 76 launch at first, then might become a beautiful and powerful game
I really hope this game is good, and they said that if this game is well received, they will implement the formula into future Sonic games, I hope that for the next game, E3 won't be cancelled that year, because we never realized how important E3 was for the marketing of Sonic games until now
I’m really looking forward to finding out more about Frontiers.
Man edits like a 300k subscriber guy, but only haves 300 subscribers? That’s surprising, you earn a sub
3:45 i was hipnotizied becuse this IS EVERYTHING I NEED IN THIS YEAR (or 2023 with the latest nintendo direct)
They need to start doing what THEY want so we can get more passionate projects instead of just trying to listen to a huge diverse fanbase that doesnt collectively know what it wants. theyre never gonna win if they do that.
just found you and love the work man
Pretty good video, but I've got a few lil gripes
- Too much dead space, due to how many transitions there are
- going more in depth about your problems with the IGN footage would've been helpful to prove your point, as well as extend the run time of the video
- 8:53 I think saying "when you play it, if it's a good game to you..." would make more sense, as nobody in the general public has played the game, therefore you can't base an opinion on it just yet.
Still a good video though, you earned my sub.
I loved this video . Congrats man, you gained a new subscriber. Also how did you get the music for that nintendo switch trailer
If sega quit game development and just made music they’d be untouchable
I feel like finished gameplay for the game should seem much better than the original showcase, so I'll probably buy and hope it's not a disappointment, and only because I love Sonic and open world games
I'm beyond hyped for this game!
Really at 2:32 it happened on my birthday 😱😱
Man I honestly can't wait to beat the game and hopefully be able to float around thus gorgeous map as Super Sonic!
Bro…the game hasn’t even released yet.
I think the gamersprey gameplay looks way better, but I still don't like the reused forces assets
And the way the trailers still use the better looking model the same way forces did and the box art will probably do the same
From the start, I really liked the gameplay, the only thing I care about in games are the visual's. So, I AM VERY excited for this game to drop, I never doubted it, even from the start.
Tbh idc if the animations are bad or its unpolished I just want a fun open world sonic game or open zone game
Ok so after playing sonic omens I care if it's polished
Should definitely review the new trailer
how the hell do you only have 247 subscribers?
Very well said ngl
I really hope that the year that the next game drops, E3 isn’t canceled, cause that’s why the marketing has been so bad
THE GAMES NOT OUT HOW IS THIS A VIDEO?!
no it doesn't
i wish the enemy design wasn't so boring
Seeing the state colors ultimate and origins were released in, my hopes are literally none
So after a while what do you think about the game ?
glad to see someone went on similar ups and downs with this game, hopefully it can get improved even more before launch but even if it doesn't it should be better than forces
Tbh I don't think the early hate was deserved at all since it was gonna be near a year until the game would come out
A lot of the people who played at SGF are you saying it's amazing, like Mitchell Saltzman and Brian Shea, they are all saying that this game has more potential than any other 3D Sonic game
huh, I never knew about the july 29th trailer at all. This is a well edited video, though, for a channel with only 300 subscribers.
The environment looks great keep it up sega, please.
Kinda early af to be making hot take video essays on a game thats not out to play yet however this would be a great video with the opinion from a full play through like a year after.
O thank God it was a demo I was trying to stay optimistic but it did look boring thx for the news
I just want them to release a demo
Hey...is it possible that you could make a Video about the Game "Sonic Studio"?
It's an (as of yet) unreleased Game that's kinda basically Sonic's Version of "Super Mario Maker"
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SONIC GAME?
6:00 so basically people got too much hopes, weren't patient for more news and already saw it as another failure of games even though it all was an early build.
Man, why am I not surprised
Ah yes Sonic rangers/frontiers animation was announced on my birthday, if this game is crap i will regret my life
I think fans are just afraid of another bad Sonic game.
Wait? You said a Demo!!! 🤩🤩🤩!!!! How much does it cost on the Nintendo Switch????!!!!!
1. What we saw was a tech demo of the game
2. He never mentioned anything about a downloadable demo so I don’t know what you’re talking about.
3. If it was a demo how much do you think it would cost? Obviously $0.
4. Why ask in the comment section when Google exists?
Demos are usually free.
How exactly can you talk about the rise of fall for a game that literally isn't even out? You shouldn't base your opinion on a game off of footage, because you don't know how it feels to play.
I am concerned about the ost 🤔
I feel very arbitrary the “rise” that you say at the end
3:54 How in the World did you get the dislike button up?
@@erickcrowlopez Thank you dude!
The games not even out yet
Can you shown the content while keeping the mysterious vibe that sega was trying to do, hmmmm.
Man the game isnt even out yet
Is Sonic for kids? I do believe it is but the amount of older fans complaining about the physics and how it looks and is like makes it feel like Sonic is just for adults and teenagers to complain about how Sonic isn't what it used to be. I've seen so many people complain about how Sonic's physics are weird and are comparing them to previous games is absolutely irritating because kids playing the game wouldn't criticize or complain about things like physics or how it is too realistic or whatever, they would either play the game or do something else and they would not complain about the smallest of things such as physics.
ngl, I always thought this was good.
I'm going to go neutral with this game. Not hyped nor dissapointed.
It hasn't even come out yet bruh 💀
"most of the sonic fandom", lmao
So much rice
The game didn't even release yet.
Where are the loops
Bro the game isn't even out yet
Didn't you already post this?
