    Really good review of this piece thanks. I confess that the thickness and a strap that looks like you’ve spent the day painting your ceiling are hugely off putting for me and overall it doesn’t look like a watch of its price. Personal viewpoint though, I’m sure some will love it.

    • @PerthWAtch

      I think understanding what the strap markings are makes it acceptable to my brain... but yeah I do feel the thickness could've been trimmed.

    A Dive watch commemorating a firefighter.... jumping into water is the opposite of jumping into a fire. The first of many perplexing design outcomes.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 роки тому +2

      Firefighters handle water... I thought that was the thing here. If they made a fireproof watch, now that’d be a first!

    • @MrMadvillan
      @MrMadvillan 4 роки тому +1

      Perth WAtch haha yes i thought about that too but no real water pressure. I suppose we re talking jewelry for firefighters here. There’s a good design question wrapped in the mix however; Personally a field watch or fleiger type flight watch makes more sense to me - big and legible. regardless most emergency workers these days wear a g-shock. Perhaps there’s a good composite fireproof resin but that sounds pretty ugly 👍 look forward to the next own

    I think it's a very handsome looking watch and I do appreciate the sentiment behind it. I actually think the strap idea is interesting. They state on their site the olive colored one with stenciled lettering is from the military. As with any microbrand running an NH35, I put it up against my Helm Vanuatu. 42mm 316L SS, NH35, 300m, sapphire crystal w/neutral AR coating, fully milled SS bracelet Screw links , SuperLuminova BGW9, 120 click bezel, lumed w/ PVD coated SS insert Cost approximately 240 Pounds including shipping. WW is asking 100 pounds just to buy the strap. In my opinion they need to re evaluate their pricing. Maybe the extra effort involved in the upcycling process is the issue, I enjoyed the review as always.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you for the thoughtful comment... I do agree that the value proposition is rather challenging to justify here. No doubt there will be interest, but not at the same compelling level as Helm pieces; given the features you’ve comprehensively listed.

    A very interesting watch! I actually love what they've done with the fire hose, and the overall aesthetic of this model (dial, gilt accents, bezel) is very attractive. Must agree with many of your final thoughts though; for that price- personally- I'd be looking for an 6R15/NE15 at minimum (Surely they can afford to pop one of those in for a retail of £600 GBP), and more importantly perhaps, a *thinner watch*. These days I'm after watches thinner than the standard 13/14mm dive style cases. The fact that this is 16mm thick is a bit of a turn-off for me. Great review as ever.

    • @PerthWAtch

    Price is not really relevant for non-mass produced pieces. Either it is worth it to the buyer or it is not. But for a watch so heavily based in firefighting history why make a dive watch? Seems to not mix well. Ditch the dive bezel and it would have worked better as a theme.

    Not cheap, but what a beautiful watch. To put an NH35 movement in a watch of that price is a bit cheeky, and perhaps an ETA 2824 clone would be a better choice. Of course, the option of spending more and getting the ETA movement is an option. I have just bought a Borealis Portus Cale with a Miyota 9015 movement, and that could also have been an option. Hi Ivan. thanks for 2W watch review. let's get to the elephant in the room first. 695 POUNDS for rubber bracelet watch with NH35? that is $907.00! Actually, I had to go back to your video to re-listen to your price quotation. I just could not believe my eyes (looking at the watch) and ears (listening to the price) and waiting very patiently (biting my finger nails which I normally do) to hear some awesome specs or features or some magical tricks this watch can do to justify the price.....But .....disappointment!
    I wouldn't talk about 16mm height. rather cheap looking rubber bracelet, inappropriate steel bracelet (too chunky without tapering, does not match with the look of the watch), dome crystal is nice but bit too thick for that watch...etc.
    When I was watching this review, the first watch that came into my mind was San Martin 62MAS at 4.5 times cheaper pricing with better design and bracelet. Almost exactly same spec! (of course, I wouldn't compare this with Pagani which also uses NH35 at 10 times cheap price, but IMO San Martin 62MAS is the perfect comparison).
    Ivan, I think that you are holding something back on us... I think that you will do another video later today, saying that you have made a mistake on the pricing or reveal some spectacular discount (70%) or buy one get 3 free deal, ha ha ha.
    Anyway, thanks for the interesting watch review (well....I kind of liked the recessed indices...bit different...)
    Have a great day, Ivan. thanks

      san martan are wholly generic. Also, chinese specials have zero resale value bc of how cheap they go out the door. pagani produces thousands and thousands of pcs., along with all the other unoriginal chinese copies. I think a more appropriate comparison would be another original design with an nh35 - in my helm watches are closer. They do production runs of 250, have a good resale value, original design at or around 300$. As for a ceiling, an nh35 watch is seiko prospex range so i’d go with the in-house movement, more known, better resale. And at 600$-900$ you’ll find eta or sw watches

    • @alexsdg3441
      @alexsdg3441 4 роки тому

      @@MrMadvillan I have owned San Martin and be able to sell it at very good pricing. Actually I also have Helm Vanuatu with NH35. well made with its own distinctive design. Since Helm is always out of stock, if you have a brand new one with tag, it is being sold with 20% premium, only because Helm is controlling the market demand, unlike San Martin and few other China direct brands. Helm is also made in China, 100%, but being shipped out of Hong Kong and being marketed as a foreign brand. However, in my opinion, the quality of workmanship and detail work is about the same between San Martin & Helm. Helm just have better design (their own) and more tight and controlled marketing.
      No matter what, this WW watch is way over priced. 3 times more than Helm and 4.5 times more than San Martin. I wonder how they can market and sell their watches...etc

    • @MrMadvillan
      @MrMadvillan 4 роки тому +2

      Alex Yoon yes, I too have loads of issues with this Woodrow wilson or whatever it’s called, however any watch review that has an nh35 in it, someone will jump in and start listing the ubiquitous chinese copies and their ‘good specs.’ My point is that you can’t compare a watch that was ‘designed’ against one that is making a direct copy albeit with ‘good specs,’ then slapping a nonsense logo on it. Design adds brand value which gives you a more valuable product in the long run. For example vintage rolex have so-so specs; the bracelets have rolled links and stamped clasps but are still very valuable watches bc they have brand value. ‘the next guy’ is willing to pay dearly for that. San martin and pagani are making a quick buck and to me their brand has no real value - they’re a company sourcing parts, not a watch company. 900$ for this watch, I wouldn’t - however i think they made real effort to offer something special

    • @alexsdg3441
      @alexsdg3441 4 роки тому

      @@MrMadvillan woodrow wilson/william wood..etc, honestly I have never heard of william wood until I saw Ivan's review. I am sure that there are more people who has heard of San Martin than woodrow wilson whatever it is called, as you put it. As for Pagani, I am not a big fan of them either because of their blatant copy and lack of refinement, even though there is no doubt that they have the best value for whatever they are copying.
      You said that "they (william wilson) made real effort to offer something special". May I ask what is so special about this Valiant Automatic? Except it is being marketed from UK and being unreasonably expensive without proper specs and features?

    • @MrMadvillan
      @MrMadvillan 4 роки тому

      Alex Yoon You’re right, on a second glance the woody willis is more of a parts bin watch. I suppose the raised logo and crown insert are nice. The case is bulbous and smooth in a weird way which i appreciate. we can certainly agree that it’s unexceptional for 900$. I guess what i meant was that they’re attempting something different with the ‘upcycling’ and the historical reference, however awkwardly it lands - the ocean is just about the opposite of a fire so for me that’s the biggest foul. I think i would have gone with more of a flight style or military watch; legible and maybe heat resistant something or other, something that speaks to firefighters beyond a few little decorations. To bring it back, if you try to then parse out san martins value proposition in contrast it’s something like ‘we copy seikos for half the price.’ Is it a good thing to be known for that? maybe maybe not. Personally I rather run an obscure brand than be known for being a hack - that’s me personally. And you’re right, maybe there’s a place for that. However after all is said and done, i’d rather save up a bit more for a seiko.

In that respect it is like many a Swiss watch. But I do love the look so I'm off to order a Steeldive plus some modding parts to get this look, place of component manufacture and quality for 1/4 of the price. Thus mine will be No1 of 1. Pretty watch, but the pressed clasp and NH35? I paid less than that for a a Christopher Ward. Say what you will about the logo {I don't mind it}, but the specs are way better. And my particular watch was just as attractive, if not prettier.
    Not my cup of tea.

      Yeah I think many will the value proposition here to be pushing the envelope given you can get Swiss Made pieces for the price (or even slightly less).

  • @77cjam

    It's actually a very nice looking watch. If it was thinner it would look quite classy. That price is ludicrous though. In a world suffering from from an economic downturn and given the quality of watches you can get out there for much less, I really don't know what they are thinking. You can never really compare one watch to another, and sat here writing this with a Vostok on my wrist perhaps makes the price seem even more unfathomable.... Nice watch, and I know they are going for a certain specific customer (ones with a lot of money as well) but I do think they have with that price excluded a hell of a lot of potential other customers.

      @PerthWAtch  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the thoughts Chris, I think you make some very valid points. To be fair to them however the pricing and marketing strategies were in planning before the current downturn, and certainly their earlier watches were from before this year.

      @@PerthWAtch It's hard to be critical of them (although I can't think of a better example of when a thinner Miyota 9000 series movt would work more perfectly). It's a genuinely nice watch. But at that price I think it would have to be something outstanding, and it just doesn't quite hit the mark. Put it on very good sale and I'm sure they will sell 👍

    Lol a 16mm thick generic "diver" (with only 100m water resistance?) with an NH35 for $900. Apparently these guys are entirely unaware of their competitors in the Microbrand Diver sector. Did they even bother to look at the pricing of Traska and Nodus divers with equivalent movements?

    Nice review. An interesting watch, but not something I would buy.
    Way too expensive for what you are getting. Do not like the minute track, too difficult to tell the time. Has a very old-fashioned look, not something I like.
    Another big issue is the thickness, but not beacause of just that . It’s pretty thick but only 100m wr. Usually thickness would add the to increased durability or water resistance. Your not getting any benefit to the thickness here.
    Others might not be bothered by these things but kill any chance of me purchasing this particular watch.

    Ridiculous. You would have to really want to get rid of your money to spend that for this silly watch. Just no! Looks cobbled together by a 10 year old. My grandfather tuna doesn’t look that tall on the wrist ! And it only cost me a little bit more than this dorkmaster. The only good idea was the fire- engine stuff. They could have made a sweet watch using the pressure gauge from the fire engine dash, with a power reserve or something (REC watches style) with more brass like old fire hose fittings. That’s what I would expect for that asking price. But no. We got some nonsense.
