Bing Kiwi I have the "Magrette - Moana Pacific Waterman GMT Titanium" and the "Belmotto Trackday - Matte Black" (A sub branch of Magrette) the are my favorite pieces in my collection.
Hi Ivan, I am a watch enthusiast and I also live in Perth. I must come and see you some time. Magrette watches remind me of Anonimo watches. This one is really nice, but I think it has borrowed many features from Anonimo. Thanks for the nice reviews, I like it when you also express points for improvements in watches and you don't only focus on dimensions and positives.
Magrette is a really beautiful unique watch, cushion case design and a bit of Panerai air but without a bracelet is overpriced, taking into account that is still a microbrand my point of comparison was the Steinhart GMT titanium 500 which I got it with bracelet and shipping in my hands for 950 AUD, Anyway Ivan good review keep it up 👍
@@PerthWAtch undecided between the new wavy dial seamaster (unobtrusive date at 6) or the current favorite the retro sm300 master coaxial (I'll decide when I've tried them both on wrist, bit concerned the 15mm may be too tall) Cheers mate 👍🏻
Being from NZ, I have two Magrettes. One is the Moana Pacific 500M Diver Chronograph (44mm) with black case and bezel and dial as well as their very first Chronograph which looks a little bit like a Panerai cushion watch with wire lugs. I'm privileged to own#2 of 500 of that particular model. Both of them feature display backs showing off the rather pretty hand wound Seagull Chrono movement. My favourite is the Moana Pacific 44mm version. This one you've shown today is rather nice, especially with the fitted rubber strap and that blue lume.
That's a deep watch considering it has a thin movement. Nice timepiece, but not what I would spend that sort of money on. When are you doing the Borealis review. I now have my Portus Cale, and am very very impressed
Nice piece overall. Dial color and case size would work well for me. But, at $760 US the ghost 👻 wheel is unacceptable. I made the mistake of buying a ($400+) ghost 👻 wheel watch a couple years ago. First time I pulled the crown out to adjust the time when it arrived, I thought it was broke. Wore it that day and it's been in a watch case since. Can't decide if I want to sell it or buy a dial with a date opening and replace the original dial.
Hiya again. Nothing wrong with it but I guess like others are now tired of generic dive style watches? I guess if it had Rolex stamped on it people would break into a manic fever of hype and throw cash at it! The name of the brand instantly makes me think of Margaret who could be my auntie? Good review and decent watch.Cheers as per,Len.
Great video review. Not sure about the chapter ring, and color combination would be better in classic black / white. Also, needs better detail "pip" and bracelet option, particularly the SS version w/ option Miyota mvt. Then they will hit it out of the ball park.
Perth WAtch Yes I can see what you mean. I think it looks less clumsy than a Panerai though. I was thinking of it as a Pelagos alternative from the spec and functionality point of view, although it can’t compete on brand status of course,
Idk how 45mm is too big. Most people, including women now have smart watches which are just as large. So people complaining about the size must have really small child wrists.
It's not just about the diameter, and just because you see people do it, doesn't make it OK... for example I've seen many a person let their thongs and bum crack show ;) Casual smartwatches and G-shocks get away somewhat as they are really meant for casual wear... I could sport this at the beach, but no way I would wear this with shirt and tie.
hey Ivan. what's up Buddy? (bit unusual than my normal greeting :+) I like the watch. As you said, it is a Rock-Solid looking and functioning watch. It seems like they got everything right. Color combo is great. Very nicely designed rubber bracelet & casing. Even the chapter ring, in a way, I like it because without it, it might look bit too plain and it works well against 03, 06, 09 big numbers (having 0 in front is an interesting touch). Price is very good (surprise to hear from me, right? ha ha ha) and I am glad that they did not use NH35 with $755 pricing! (like your last watch review!) It is a big watch but it was smart of them to use Titanium to lighten the weight. Very well done and another good touch! Generally speaking, this is a nice and well deserving watch as a 500 meter diver. Would I buy one? probably not because I don't even know how to swim :+) and I am not really a big watch guy. Anyway, thanks for a great review again and have a wonderful weekend. Ivan.
Thanks Alex... I'm indeed surprised! Regarding the potential for a "plain" look without that colored timing ring... I dunno man, I've been looking to get a Panerai actually (which this watch certainly draws some inspiration from) and the desirable models (think PAM112) certainly have a very plain almost boring look! Regarding pricing... oh yeah I agree that $750 for a watch with NH35 is pushing it very hard... but what about a point comparison with say Steinhart Ocean Titanium 500? Better movement, solid bracelet, also in titaniium... for a lower price.
@@PerthWAtch yup. actually I bought Steinhart Ocean Titanium 500 two years ago. Everything was good .... until all the scratches showing up on clasp & bracelet. THAT titanium was scratch magnet!!!! I just couldn't polish them, so I had to sell via eBay at much lowered pricing. I took a beating.. :+( personal note : actually I like this Magrette face more than Steinhart ocean 500. Steinhart seems to be a homage of something. but not Magrette. it looks more original and simpler in a good way.
@@PerthWAtch by the way, I used to go to Auckland so many times, about twice a year for 15 years straight. I used to be an electronic international marketing director. (now, coffee sales man for a Guatemala coffee cooperatives) so I am guessing about 30 times to N.Z. I loved it so much. Great coffee, awesome mixture of people, diverse & great foods...again awesome coffee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! when this pandemic is over, I would love to go there again.... PS: Perth??? I have been there only once to see a customer. that was about 15 years ago. I don't know now how it looks, but back then, Perth is more like a suburb in Los Angeles, ha ha ha
Yeah I think NZ is a great place and has a real claim to be the most beautiful in the world. The Ocean 500 is certainly a heavy homage, the 500 GMT less so I think. This Magrette similar is a looser homage - I would say there is heavy inspiration from Panerai here.
Perth WAtch I would suggest the Amphibian Classic range have very similar looking models. I am sure I have seen the double digit numbers on some of their models, maybe even a Komandirske.
An attractive tool watch with a nice design studiously avoiding the Sub trap, but with those 53mm lugs even if I could afford it they would be a deal breaker................................
Certainly a solid looking watch. But not really one for me. Not a fan of the looks (but points given to the new design) and too big for my tastes. But I'm sure anyone getting one will get a very nice watch 👍
Once the discussion of gimmick is opened-up I get lost. Since all but the most austere designs could not avoid the charge. Couldn't beauty even be used as a gimmick? Doesn't the discussion then lead to what is quality? Then before you know it, we're Talking, Zen and The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, and possibly needing ECT.

One of the most unpleasant lookin watches I’ve seen in a while. I find it visually offensive to say the least. Anyone who pays that much money for this needs to take a long, hard look at themselves. Maybe then have a chat to your gp about what you’ve gone and done.
Hey Ivan, what a cracking watch I'm going to look further into Magrette, thank you for another great unique video

Thanks for that mate, always good to hear from a local fellow enthusiast! I haven’t heard of Anonino - perhaps they borrowed from Margrette? :)
I cannot help but wait for the spin. Something so silly has become so important. Great work again.
Hahaha thank you for that :)
You need a drum roll !
Mine has the see through case back… I got it about 5 years ago. Anyway, I absolutely love mine!
Nice!

Yeah that's a good point... although to be fair I think there was more design work that went into this watch than the Steinhart...
I like it, good to see a diver without a date. Busy saving for an Omega tho, so must avoid temptation!
Cheers Ivan 👍🏻
Haha nice - which model do you have your eye on?

While not cobalt blue it is pretty. Very thick. For me I don't like rubber straps. Nice offering. Great review.
Thanks again Mike :)
Both the deployant clasp on the rubber, and the three rings of the nato, are also titanium.
Good to know - thanks for the info!

Oh yeah bro, I totally get what you mean there about the name, coz Margaret is my the name of my MIL :o
@@PerthWAtch You get my drift then. Cheers.
The chapter ring marks common decompression stop durations.
Yes I thought that might be the case, but seeing as this ain't a chronograph, not sure how you would use that!!
Perth WAtch since the chapter ring doesn’t turn, I am inclined to think it as a design element nod to diving as its origins.
Yeah you’re probably right about that
A fair price for titanium and quality.
Thanks for the thought!

A good looking watch, if a little large. A lower cost alternative to a Pelagos perhaps?
I was thinking more Panerai Submersible...

Not so sure about the build quality of this watch. I dropped it in my wood chipper and it just totally disintegrated.
You should drop in other watch makes and models to compare, otherwise how can you know how this really stacks up?

Fair enough man, thanks for the thoughts. Yeah those zeroes are interesting, if a little odd...
Perth WAtch The Ball Aero GMT had the zero’s too. However, it looked great in that application
Not a fan of the zeroes. They have no practical function.
Yeah just like the branding, both on the dial and the strap! And the etching on the case back also!
Yes, you are correct. I don't know why you didn't push these points more in your review.
