  • Homemade Archery Target - In this video I show you a very inexpensive way to make your own archery target. Once you shoot up one side you can rotate it to shoot a different side and make the target last longer. When the box is too beat up to keep using you can simply get a different box and start over.

    I just bought a crossbow today. Tomorrow I’m making a cardboard box / blanket target! Thank you

      Cross bows are a bit stronger than regular bows so make a big box and pack it heavily with clothing. It may still not be able to stop a crossbow though so be careful

    Oct 1st is the opener here in NY. I can't wait. I wish I was going on a bowhunting trip. Very cool target idea

    I did this a few weeks ago, after getting my first bow. I used an old comforter from Goodwill, $3. It works great, and the arrows can be pulled out with my thumb and one finger! Thanks!

    Nice! I have a big box I shoved a lot of shrink wrap into and taped up. It also works really well.

    Very nice idea and effective. I just don't happen to have any spare blankets! I use cardboard as I can get all the free cardboard I wan't from work. I will be making a video later today of a life size deer target from just cardboard!
    But If I ever need a go to portable target, your trick is the best, thanks for sharing! God bless!!

    I made a small travel boss from the waste layered foam from an old larger boss after the middle had been shot out. The sides from the middle are usually fine
    So you gather the side material and layer it up.
    When it is to the size needed wrap the cube with kitchen film as tight as you can.
    If you want to be tidy cut off the ragged end and wrap that with the kitchen film.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  7 років тому

      You could probably use something like ratchet straps to wrap the layers tightly together which would help to stop arrows. Enjoy it. God bless ya.

    This is what I use for a target. I use old clothes and old bedding. I get a week with each box most of the time, shooting 2 or 3 hours a day . I get my boxes from the local store.

    i have made target of newspaper bags 8" by 10" 20" by "25" al l around 5"thick with house wall Insalation solid foam so they dont pass to far through and the interior of the bags i fill with pine needles it is some time a little painful but the results are good and i have done it with carpet cut about an inch square they all work quite well

    you could probably even use a shovel worth of sand at bottom of box to stabilise box ? sand being no hard on arrow heads n all :)?

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  2 роки тому

      Sand could.be messy once you start putting holes in it.

    Hey sean love your videos, i had a question i recently just bought a bone collector target and it has 2 sides to shoot your actually tips into, my regular bow is fine but my crossbow the arrows just go so far in that i need to get pliers to get it out and it ruins my arrows.... my crossbow shoots 360 fps, i wanna shoot my actually tips to see if it shoots different but its hard because they go in so far, even with practice tips they go in so far.. i need advice on how i can shoot without this problem cause i wanna be on for the season, and not ruin anymore arrows!!

      If I were you I would just spend money on getting a broadhead rated target. There are some on the market for around 50 dollars in the USA such as this one amzn.to/2xtWAij. Also, I would never use pliers to take an arrow out of a target. Get a rubber arrow puller like this amzn.to/2xuvaca
      They are super cheap and work well. You can also use a bar of soap and rub it on the end of your arrows which helps them come out of the target easier or get target release fluid to put on the ends of your arrows which makes them come out easier amzn.to/2jl0kwn. I hope that helps. God bless you.

    Hey is a box with a lot of scrunched up (compacted) newspaper good enough for a 50lbs compound? The box is about 20-30cm wide.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  7 років тому +1

      I don't know, I have never tried newspaper as a stopper for arrows.

    I wonder if a new box of diapers would work? Something tells me it would but the babysitter wouldn't like me very much.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  7 років тому

      Yeah, actually, a local archery shop used to use diapers as their target in their store. There is a First Quality near hear and so he would go get the rejected ones that were going to get thrown out anyway. They worked pretty well. And, yes, the babysitter, AND WIFE would not be too happy about that lol!

    Can u use it for broadheads

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  7 років тому +1

      No, I don't think this would work for a broadhead, just for a field point.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  7 років тому +1

      You would need some form of firm foam to work on a broadhead I would think. Broadheads just have to much slicing power and that cuts down on the friction due to arrow shaft, so the target would need more than just a blanket.

      Sean's Outdoor Adventures
      Something else I have used is packing material from boxes or shrink wrap. It's easy to get from lowes and Home Depot. I took a large box and stuff with packing material as a backstop also for shooting 60-100 yards in case I mess up and don't shoot good so I don't loose a arrow.
      And if you go to a thrift stores can sometimes get blankets for little of nothing if don't have one.
      Good tip though keep up the good work.
