Thanks for this, it’s a message to all do Gooders and ‘experts’ to leave people’s communities and livelihoods alone. I’m not from Middlesbrough but I have very fond memories of working around this area and in the Steelworks and being made to feel welcome and appreciated by the local people.I keep in touch with a lad from south bank still and when we meet up it’s always like the first time we met!.thanks for your photos and for keeping this part of the world real.

The pictures of the lads playing football were taken by myself and my brother (George and Alan Smith) we lived on Lane Place at the time Circa 1979. We first moved to Grangetown in 1968. Pochin road Infants and then Bolckow rd Junior school, before they closed it and we all went up to Sir William Worsley on St Patricks road 1972/3. This was a great idea I was shocked to see images of myself and our kid though.

@@michaeldonovan8411 I recognised Derek but couldn't put a name to you. I took lot of pics with that camera. I just wish I'd taken more the place has changed beyond recognition. Take care.

George Smith I was a few years younger but i remember you both. I recognised all the faces in those pictures when i first came across them on the ‘proud to be a gtowner’ site on Facebook. We lived next door but one from Micky Donovan and just out the back to the Collins. Your pictures are brilliant btw. So clear & colourful. Wish i had done the same when i was growing up. I do have a soft spot for your pictures for aswell as beers excellent they are also easy to get too when I’m doing ‘now’ pictures. Thanks for watching, take care

not one pic looks better now than it did then, this vid should get an award, because so many of the pics I would not know the exact location of were they were taken, I hope someone can do this for South bank too

mjw Thanks for watching and for the kind words. I have loads of pictures waiting to be done of South bank north & south of the A66. Next time i will have better equipment so hopefully the pictures shouldn’t wobble on the videos or discolour. Grangetown & South bank have changed so much.

Those patches of grass look worse than the houses they pulled down. Bit of 70s Hawkwind at the end

Now mate, is this you Stevo? I'm still here on Robert Avenue. We came down from Dalton rd (when I was really little) and moved onto Burnsvill rd, then onto Westcroft for years and then when they started to modify the houses we finally ended up on Robert Avenue.
And finally after growing up on the streets of Grangetown I fled the nest and settled down marriage and kids and moved all the way to next door to my mam and dad. Lol

Sorry for the amount of time it has took me to reply, I’m blaming my age😂 I had plans to do a load more ‘now’ pictures then videos but this bloody virus has scuppered those plans, for now. Hope you are well mate. Next time I’m taking some pics I’ll give ye a knock an say hello

It was my home also! Real people.. my first love Alan bird, from Southbank. I've never forgotten him, my heart broke when I was taken to Devon, having to leave him behind, my mother's choice, looking back I was a baby at 14 years old? But love was, real. Today, 48 years later, I've never forgotten my 1st love nor never will. I hope you! Alan, are healthy, alive and well, with your spouse and family, living a good life? I never had the 12 sons, I wanted, but had 3 of the best u could ever ask for.
