- This is the 14th instalment in my series of Then & Now video slideshows which
I hope will show the changes in our area over the decades. Hopefully these videos will bring back memories to older
viewers whilst also showing younger viewers what Middlesbrough used to look like in their parents, grandparents and great grandparents eras.

I can still smell Middlesbrough baths.
Just spent a hour of nostalgic reminiscing, thank you. Next time I am in the UK will need to see the cobbled Bush street. I lived in Melbourne street that was also cobbled, mid 50 's. Sadly no more,
So much history lost with the passage of time. Excellent video Stephen. Thanks.
Yes, lost but not forgotten, keeping the memory of old Middlesbrough is why I'm making these videos.
Thank you Stephen a beautiful video once again.
Thank you Jameel.
Cracking pictures as always.
Thanks Liam.
Lookin down Linthope Rd from Newhouses in the old photo im sure u can c a clock on the wall above /near the old Shakespear pub. It had bin there from wen I wos a kid 40s time, at some time in later yrs the Council decided to remove it and replaced it with a Tower bell clock, it did add some characture to the mall but not for Long the Council removed that as well, lookin down there now looks bare. As for the photo of Bush St it only gos to show how people looked after there homes in earlier days.
Great vid, thanks for sharing x
Thank you for that Kathleen x
Good vid stephen
Thank you Roy.
1:24 I don't believe there are more people now, I think there are less. This photo proves it.
Thank you Stephen I have now watched all your videos today. Kind regards miss h.
Town centres all over the country are failing to attract the customers anymore, shopping habits have changed.
I love these they are fabulous.
Especially the image of St Cuthberts as I am from West Lane.
Have you any more of old stockton Road and the Blind School end of West Lane?
Thanks
Ant P Teacher
Thank you Ant, sorry but I don't have any at the moment but as i'm constantly searching for old photos of Middlesbrough hopefully i'll find some.
Have u tried the Dorman Museum.
They have a large collection of images. Often hold ,exhibitions
I've looked in the museum and the reference library the only place I haven't tried is the archives as you have to pay for access.

All character and characters nearly gone.
Yes Barry, sad times :-(
Then there is something wrong, this should be a time of triumph & progress, but it isn't. Why are people no longer characters?
Why do we look around and see emptiness, waste land and joblessness and ugly buildings?
@@doravernon1511 People are easier to control when they feel that they have no agency.
@@BigMack1959 agreed.
Anything or any photos of Acklam? Maybe Trimdon ave area?
Unfortunately there are very few old photos of those areas, when and if I come across any they'll be in a future video.
Great work. I thought a couple of the "afters" worked out well, but the rest were just the usual disappointment.
Thank you Simon.
Very good 👍👍👍👍👍👍
