MMA is pretty formless, you got Khabib wrestle fucking everyone you got Conor punching the shit out of people landing KO’s, then you got Wonderboy kicking everyone in the face, you also have the Diaz brothers submitting people and really just lasting longer with cardio. The ounces and kicks are different. Bruce Lee was ahead of his own time in saying that martial arts should be an expression of what works for the individual person, but what works for individuals is what they’ll do. I don’t think JKD is really a necessary art bc everyone basically follows its principles to a large extent. Do what works for you, basic and effective. Do you get what I’m tryna say?

    • @KaiserTrigger
      @KaiserTrigger 6 років тому +12

      It still requires to have a starting point, which is Bruce Lee's style, which is using Fencing type stances for good footwork, and mixing in boxing with it, as well as a bit of Wing Chun.
      And any stance or footwork requires work before you're fully comfortable. You can practice any way, and eventually you'll actually get comfortable with the work it does. Even if it isn't now, it will be later after practicing with.

      @@sumanjana401 bullish you guys cant differ between a fight sport and self defense martial art. TKD in this form is for show fights in competition. JKD contains a lot of forbidden attacks that you cant even use in this sparring. Also they both wont hit to the head which in TKD is never done with the fists.

    • @thomasthorne4010
      @thomasthorne4010 2 роки тому +4

      Simply put .....JKD was meant for point scoring. It's a subtle art form whereas sure sparring is always a great thing, but it wasn't meant for this TWO JKD is about freedom of expression. The karate guy could or should have gotten caught by the JKD guy on a couple of occasions AND JKD is never about attack ( or shouldn't be ) but interception. The problem here is that you'd take a conventional way of learning JKD to the street and apply ONLY those lessons and cannot score when other opportunities arise like catching your opponents kick and sweeping the leg from underneath him. But even in JKD we get caught up in ' styles ' and don't " honestly express " ourselves which was the problem here.
      And yes, Bruce Lee didn't want anybody to be like him .....but find your own path and follow what works.

    JKd is not a style. Is CONCEPTS. Second a true person EMPLOYING JKD techniques would be much more quicker and rounded. I personally would not kick the TKD guy I would wait for him to kick me then grab is leg and go into a judo flip or jujitsu. I would only use JKD PRINCIPLES to intercept then attack with Muay thai or boxing. Thats what JKD IS PERSONAL LIBERATION. My way is not the only way obviously BUT this guy is not going with the natural bends of things as Bruce lee taught. So theree for he is not a true JKD practitioner. A true JKD HUMAN BEING uses everything. No judo flips, no jujitsu, no boxing? Hes just jumping around like a jelly bean.

      jkd is a style and philosophy. Even Dan Inosanto referred it as Art and Philosophy of JKD.
      JKD is over-rated. Lot of those judo/jujutsu moves in JKD is not practical to pull off in real fight since most JKD schools do not spar with grappling. So that JKD guy only had striking in his arsonal. Boxing techniques in JKD? JKD's founder Bruce Lee dabbled in all arts he practiced. He was not a master in any of them. Boxing in JKD is very rudimentary.
      JKD basically was left with poor striking techniques, and JKD was beat up by TKD guy who at least learned at least one thing (striking) from masters who knew about it.

      @@eduds6 Brazil DID do MMA before Bruce Lee but you need to remember that United States was in a different era in martial art history than Brazil. Brazil already had MMA/BJJ revolution in martial art community doing MMA even back in 1940s or even before. As for United States, MMA/BJJ revolution in 1993. When Bruce Lee created JKD in 1960s, this was the time when kung fu was popular in films and karate, tkd, tang soo do, kempo, kajukenbo were seen fighting in karate tournaments. Worldwide, it was around 2000-2001 when MMA/BJJ revolution changed martial art communities, replacing old martial art ideas with new martial art ideas that you see today in UFC.

    I've been practicing JKD for about a year now and I've had the chance to spar a couple TKD people. They do have great kicks very early on I found, which is what you see in most TKD videos. But, they seem to throw a kick based on the idea that that one single kick is worth risking putting themselves in any position you can imagine. One guy caught me with several good lead round and thrust kicks. But if i could deflect the kick or close the gap before full swing, he would leave life ending openings to the throat and nearly a full exposed chin. Idk. I respect it, but it seems more a style thats built for sport rather than real combat.

  • @babyblu5590
    @babyblu5590 6 років тому +33

    Practiced a bit of both styles in my younger days. I have to say though, the JKD guy is too much on defense and is 90 percent inside the kicking ranges of standard TKD kicks. A lot of near misses and sure knockouts if he gets hit even once when the TKD was firing away. He needs to get in mid to close range and press on with JKD straight line punches to negate kicking advantage of TKD.
    In a real fight though the TKD guy takes too many risks. The early slip he had would have ended the fight if it was on the street. Easy to knock yourself out on the ground if your head gets banged trying out risky maneuvers on concrete especially when you take off from the ground. Can't afford misses with those types of kicks.

    First of all respect to him, he had the balls to face that TKD guy, who seemed to be a tough fighter to me. 90 percent of the people here have never fought in the ring or did a full/semi contact match anyhow..
    Second thing: No one says he is a second Bruce Lee. he propably goes to work and trains in JKD in his free time. plus he is at a specific state of training, he might be a ''beast'' in 5 years who knows... so give him and yourself a break.

      Because I am a certified JKD instructor. And JKD is a hand based philosophy that incorporates kicks but kicks are usually not our strength's like they are in TKD.. We train four ranges diligently. The guy in the video stayed at one range through out the fight which was kicking which completely plays into the TKD fighters strength. A true JKD partitioner at some point is going to check or parry a kick and close that gap quickly to hand then trapping range. So you can call bullshit all you want, but either the guy labeling the video was mistaken or this guy misrepresented himself.

    From what I've seen of TKD and JKD videos, the JKD practioner always kicks with his leading foot, unless by mistake he kicks with his rear foot. On the other hand, TKD kicks seem to be a mix of leading foot and rear foot kicks. I think that the idea of the leading foot doing the kicks would be to avoid telegraphing your intention to your opponent and not having to cover as much distance to the target.

    I can add some color here because I have sparred and competed in both styles. This was a TKD style fight which means no punching to the head. It focused on sport type kicking. JKD uses the straight lead to open combinations. JKD uses a lot of western boxing, especially in sparring/sport. When you go against a JKD fighter in sparring they throw a lot of jabs/straight leads to the head. Just like most stand up styles. When you take 2 different styles for sparring you need to meet in the middle. It’s like asking that TKD guy to fight a black belt BJJ guy on the ground.

    Next time make it a true kicking boxing match. Punching to the head is the basics of stand-up fighting. The TKD guy might have still gotten the best of him, but I saw a JKD guy who didn’t have his full tools and didn’t feel comfortable fighting sport TKD. I am actually not sure why this JKD guy is competing in a TKD tournament.

    I agree. I see a lot of comments about 'street, street, street' but many street fighters are terrible. The advantage they have is that they sucker punch, they'll pick up knives and broken bottles and sticks, or they'll go for eyes and balls. If a trained fighter decides to fight that way, I'd say 9 times out of 10 he'd DECIMATE a street fighter. You have some street guys that fight constantly, but most of them just don't, so they don't get to practice.

    hey guys, this is not JKD , cause JKD has no limits or rules. In the ring there are rules and limitations(of space for example) . So you cannot simple apply what you know in the ring. Eye jabs, Groin kicks or solar plexus punches cannot be used. on the other side we have a TKD fighter who knows how to fight in the ring , cause this is why he is training for. That's why he took down the JKD fighter. ps: anyway it''s alwayes good to have a great sparring session we any martial artist, this is one way to improve yourself and your opponent.

    people keep saying how the fighter sucks, and how taekwondo is no good, i think this school rocks, the same place, and they beat a muay thai guy, this place has some good taekwondo fighters, i think people just dont know what there doing in taekwondo i seen alot of good fighters who throw those kicks and punches phenominally.

      +albert puljos I think it all depends on the school, ive been training in martial arts since I was 4: and have seen alot of students pass through the school for Tae Kwon Do from other schools and they could not punch to save their lives, where at my school it seems like we do alot more punching than we do kicking... Needless to say the people from other schools don't last long

    yes, or use the skills of wing tsung for block and counterattack!!!!. If the oponent use the distance of kicks, INTERCEPT with punches (the boxers use this strategy for example). Thinking exclusively in low line attacks (for kicking) and forgot attack to head or chest is not good idea

    It's not the sport that sucks or is useless, but it's either the practitioner, the teacher and/or the school that teaches it. If you stick with your martial art and perfect it, training hard, pushing yourself, motivating yourself, damn every martial art is great. Whether it be TKD, boxing, karate, Muay Thai, aikido, and other styles, they're all useful in their own way. In TKD, for example, I see a lot of people in the comments say it's useless, some say it's gay, some say it's shit, but hell, have you EVER even tried TKD yourself? Some people say they are black belts and they realized they wasted time of their lives training for a useless sport. Who says that? Whoever starts a martial art, will have moral values and complete respect not only for the other martial arts but also for their own. It's their discipline, after all, training for years to achieve black belt then after that say that the martial art is bad or gay or whatever bad they wanna say about it. Of course, every martial art has it's pros and cons. For example, Muay Thai is great for blocking kicks that come from the side and boasts destructive attacks with elbows, knees, and other stuff, but a TKD practitioner can find it's weak spot if timed right: a center linear attack like a front kick or a push kick to bring heavy damage to the center(since Muay Thai fighters normally block the side, not the middle). But at the same time, Muay Thai is also great against TKD due to it's punches, and pros, cons, and counters against one another goes on. The thing is, you have to understand your martial art to be able to find a way to defend yourself either from the outside world or from other styles. Remember, we, as martial artists, are different, and we should respect each other as great people. As for the non-martial artists... Stay out of this if you have nothing good to say. We can handle it. Who cares where it comes from or what's it called or what it specializes in? What's important is that you have the fighting spirit and mental and moral values to achieve and succeed. If you don't like the sport, fine, we understand, but don't ruin it's name or make fun of it because there is a 97.89% chance that behind that screen, the person typing that bad comment is not a martial artist or is just one of those keyboard warriors or whatever those people are called.
