    Interesting, just starting to find out about Rucking, I'm a 54 year old women with pins in my left knee and some sacroiliac ligament strain so I'd have to take it very slowly but very interested in maintaining and trying to build up my muscles

    I think compression and load adjusting straps are also essential to pull the weight high and forward, as well as compressing/compacting the weight of the pack to your body.
    Basically putting the center of gravity more towards the anterior of your body, for ease of maneuverability/less fatigue from "swinging" a pack around instead of simply turning when it's compact.

    Good video. The sternum strap I think is most important. I couldn't believe Goruck sales as accessory.

    I assume for a 100# ruck that the pack is swapped. I've got well-engineered backpacks that aren't really recommended beyond 40-50#. I cant see a Sierra Designs pack carrying 100#, let alone in dumbbell form.

    • @RobStuart

      Video is a few years old and the pack is still going strong. Don't do many 100 pound rucks with it but have def packed it full of camping gear and thrashed it for weeks at a time. Surprising because I have very expensive camping backpacks that blow out in a single aggressive trip...

    What is the difference between rucking, and hiking/rambling ?

    • @RobStuart
      @RobStuart  10 місяців тому +2

      Im not sure what rambling is, besides what my uncle does when he's 20 PBR's deep, but the main difference between a ruck and hike is just the loaded / weighted back pack.

    I got a goruck bag, had to sent it back. It killed my neck and upper back and shoulders. Then I got a smaller hiking back with a internal frame and built in hip belt. I still cannot go for long without shoulder, neck pain because even though the hip belt does take some of the weight, it still pulls on my shoulders. How can I alleviate this? I want most all weight on my hips. I'm using 25 pounds as a weight plate in the bag, are there weight belts I can get. I can only find ones that go up to 10 pounds.

    • @OffGridMadMan
      @OffGridMadMan Рік тому

      I'm having the same problems with neck, upper back and shoulders but my bag is not great. From what I'v learnt, you want to have the weight as high as possible.
      Just a suggestion, but have you considered trying less weight for a little while? You and me might both have some weakness in those areas.
      I'm only carrying 20lbs for about 5 miles and the last mile or so are murder 😰 I need to get a better rucksack!

      @jessicacampbell1903 Рік тому

      @@jessicacampbell1903 OK, I understand. I suppose you could get a 10lb weight belt and then add what extra you want into the bottom of your rucksack? All the best 👍

      @ryanj2071 8 місяців тому +1

      Ruck more.
      Yes, it's going to hurt at first, bit like all new exercise, you'll build up to it.
      MANY miles under a ruck and several GORUCK events, NEVER used a hip belt and rarely a sternum strap.
      The REAL 4 things you need for rucking are:
      1. Legs
      2. A ruck (backpack)
      3. Weight
      4. Water

      I would recommend working up to a short and then longer walk. You still wanna condition your body ie feet to the overuse. Maybe go for a walk around your neighborhood to get a feel for how your body responds. The shoes you would wear, attire etc. Then start routing or going for longer and longer walks. I too am just starting to "ruck" but have been doing walks with the pups for the past 3 weeks extending the duration each week. Just finished my 2nd hr long 3km walk with different elevation variations. Just my 2 cents :) Goodluck on your journey!

      @@jtraten Thanks! Just purchased a water weight. It's great! Fill it up to to level lbs you want. If it gets too heavy during a ruck I can dump some water weight. Also great for travel. As a bonus, there is no fear of it tearing up the inside of my pack. I keep it high and tight with towels on the bottom and cinch traps to pull it close to my back.

    Hey Rob,
    I really like your videos, I have a few questions though.
    I have a sauna at home (the type where you pour water on a rock), is that ok to use? I'm thinking of combining it with a cold salt bath.
    Another question, is creatine monohydrate safe to use if you're still healing? What about after your skin has healed?
    Thanks for reading!

    • @RobStuart
      @RobStuart  3 роки тому +1

      Saunas are awesome! Cold exposure is awesome too. If healing your skin I your goal, I personally would eliminate all powdered foods including creatine, protein powders and green powdered "super foods".
