Let's Build: USMC M4A2 Sherman From Saipan 1944 (Dragon 1/35)

- My friends, USMC tanks from the Pacific Theatre are some of the wildest looking vehicles of WW2. Countless variants of improvised add-on armor and other kinds of protection against the enemy coupled with colorful camouflages and deep wading stacks are the perfect combination for an interesting model!

Disclaimer: I have a good relationship with a handful of modelling brands and stores, namely VMS, Michigan Toy Soldier Company, and AK-Interactive. As such, I'm happy to use their products/services, and show them in my work. In return, they support my efforts in this hobby, although my hands are not bound nor am I obligated to push one brand or the other. This was one of the founding ideas of the channel and I will always stand by this.

Muh Friends… I’ve never seen something so relatable as ‘model count went up, bank account went down’
Wonderful to watch, thank you
#relatable
That's my life...
🤣
Money comes and money goes . But the joy from Modeling little plastic pieces is priceless and perpetual………
Old guy here , you have an amazing talent for doing this , its been so long since I’ve seen such talent with modelling , may sound crazy but the details remind me of what a jewelry maker would create ,Faberge for example , craftsmanship is a rare thing nowadays
Those PanzerWerk Design tracks are the best! Great work as always with the detail Martin.
I went to toy mich in royal oak Michigan the other day.
I mentioned that their sponsorship of you hadn't gone to waste...
They said you've sent them LoTS of people!!
Thank you telling me of a diorama shop nearish me... I would have never found them without you...
Believe me. I've done several Google searches for hobby shops!!
Semper fi ma friend !!! Carry on ! Hope That the next wonderful video Will be published next... friday ! I can't wait !😉
Hey Nightshift, have you done or would ever do a video on how you hide your crimes? By that I mean as a fellow modeller, we have all had things go wrong. Like on my latest project a RFM M4 Sherman with full interior. One of the parts of one HVSS broke post construction.
I had no resort but to perform a little bit of surgery to fix it. And glue in place a previously movable part of the running gear. Fortunately it all worked out. I plan to use some VMS smart mud to hide the rest of the damaged part that is visible.
Dammit....so much for going to catch a few zzZZZZzzzZZzzz....uncle Night Shift has a new video up! Oh well, kettle on and coffee out....oh the suffering!
Does your wallet hate you as much as mine hates me uncle Night Shift....? 😉😆😂
Man I would kill to see Night build a model of an M3A3 Bradley
I've wanted this since the Puma!
That would be awesome, hope he makes one!
Scouts Out RECON! Hell YEAH! M3A2 ODS would be even better
I volunteer as tribute
I agree, would love to see it
Something about shermans in the pacific theater is so appealing, I don't know what... excited for the next videos
It’s the road warrior look.
@@TheModelGuyExactly, Mad Max in real life
And i some cases awesome 3 tone camo!
Bank Account? We build models....we don't have any money
Imagine if Night Shift made a flamethrower tank shooting out a stream of flame on a diorama. That’s the first thing I thought of when I saw the thumbnail.
There's an Indian guy who makes miniature models of various things. I've seen his flamethrower.
@@ID-8491 Do you have the name of his UA-cam channel?
@@Historybuffm8 Yup.

Now I'm interested to see you build a Javanese tank, like a Chi-Ha or something.
Same
My father was on Saipan 2nd Marine division, he's passed away but watching this makes me think about him, great job and I will be waiting for your next video 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you for sharing. I hope you have good memories with him.
@@Ava-uq5dh I do
Ive done this with an old model of a german u-boat, where i had it for years. Then i saw raiders of the lost ark again and saw the u-boat near the end and had to make that!
I’ve been waiting for you to do a pacific Sherman since I started watching your channel. This thing looks incredible, can’t wait for the rest of the series.
3:43 You just aknowledged the existence of Gunpla, now build a Guntank
Just made a Sherman, just in Normandy instead of the Pacific, but they are such an amazing tank to build, the Asuka kit is amazing and definitely recommend it to anyone Who is looking for a Sherman kit. Thanks for the work Uncle NS
Awesome! There's a vid on here somewhere showing jeeps being prepped with asbestos paste...they used their bare hands!
If you want to try some more famous shermans, i think “cobra king” would be right up your alley
most of my project starts because I see a cheap kit, and I like this way to work
I'm always amazed by how much detail you cram into these models, well done Uncle. Can't wait to see it weathered!
Great job Martin can't wait to see the Finish excellent workmanship every time
Legend is back!
Still waiting for the poor 279 to be finished
Always a crowning of a long hard work week to find a papa Night Shift upload! Top job as always!
You can never comprehend the excitement I went through after the notification of a new night shift upload popped up. Beautiful build as usual
As soon as I saw Night Shift uploaded I screamed with excitement
I have a challenge for you (maybe you will read this:)). Make tamiya t34 76 Chtz, which requires many reworks:) Do something with it!
Outstanding job on that Marine Corps tank. Looking forward to seeing how you paint it and the diorama you build for it.
Hello, my friend. Another great built really loved. The side panels that you made out of plastic good job. Can't wait to see you paint it
So exited to see a pacific war diorama
First off beautiful ❤ and secondly this reminded me of your t95 are you planning to do that anytime soon? I assume its quite similar in painting to this so maybe in the future to add variation
Hey bro! Love you’re videos,I have an idea for a future model, a damaged b17
Any indication on when the next video will be available? Can’t wait to see the video 🎉🎉
i wanna see u build something swedish. Would love to see ur take on our camo scheme
Uncle nightshift good to see this latest video top notch as always !
Two-tone pacific camo on this bad boy is gonna slap.
Can you please do a collection tour someday?
We've all taken a kit out for a constitutional.
YESS I like where this is heading haha
Babe, wake up. The new Night Shift video just dropped!
The leftover M4A2 large-hatch hull would make a great Red Army Sherman..........just saying.
i feel ashamed dispite being an american i have never heard of this tank before if you're claiming its famous
Unless the mechanics needed to move or it got shoot off the marine tanks kept an ocd level of waterproofing. On Okinawa the marine tanks still had the all the tape and even the turret gun cover deep into the operation
Id be curious to see Night build and heavily detail a Land Raider from Warhammer 40k.That or a Forgeworld model of a Leman Russ Incinerator. Your models are always detailed to the max capacity. Always impressed by your work, never a dissapointment! Keeps me going in the modeling hobby thank you!
👏🏾👏🏾My Friends🍷🗿
Looking great as allways..... still holding out for a Challenger 2 video though....🥺🥺
I just subscribed. You sir, are a master modeler. I have been around for a very long time, and I don't say that about just anyone. Keep it going!
Awesome Video !!! Any chance of you doing aircraft from the German Luftwaffe like the bf 109 ?
Speaking up USMC stuff, I'd absolutely LOVE to see what you would do with an AAV7.
Martin, I have been watching your videos for some years now. IT is amazing how you have evolved to become such an accomplished model and diorama builder! Whenever I watch one of your videos, I feel like picking up my stuff once again.
Great video. Definitely book marking it. Thanks from Ottawa Ontario Canada 🍁
u can made hybrid of few diferent models of Sherman. something like Italian M4 Hybrid or something
Hi, amazing work, big fan of your creations!! Would you mind to share where can I get the arcer 3D decals in Czech Republic? Thinking to use them on my Space Marine tanks to give them little more realistic look. Díky a čau!
Nice to Night Shift back - great tips on detailing a Sherman
Martin - what was the stiffness of the silicon sculpting brush? I’ve been considering getting some for 1/56 scale work and the flexibility of what you demonstrated was exactly what I have been interested in getting. Thanks!
Perhaps the best model you have built yet. I look forward to seeing complete model and hopefully seeing you make a Jungle scene or at least a plam tree.
so much fun watching you build!
I#m currently working on a Panzer IV, applying lots of your techniques, thanks for your content. :)
Never painted anything from the Pacific? You didn't end up finishing that Japanese superheavy?
WOAH that looks amazing! You should add the H3 models USMC set, ive been saving to get them myself but they look amazing!
Thank you , Uncle Martin .
🐺Loupis Canis .
Hey, once you said that you are mountainbiking. Have you ever been at Trail Park Klínovec?
A steal I got was the kitty hawk 1/48 SU-34 for 70 usd. I nagged that thing as soon as I could from my hobby shop.
Oddly enough I was just watching Greatest Tank Battles and it was the episode on The Pacific. I am looking into getting some photo etch for the cockpit of my ICM 1/48 Heinkel bomber but I am going to get an armor model but not sure what yet. I have a few possibilities. Id like to get away from German tanks this time and maybe try a Soviet or British tank.
Here is my engagement for today! PS. Thanks for another awesome video! cant wait for the full diorama.
Eyy Night shift, (or anyone else), the coupon code for AK-Interactive expired is there coming a new one by any chance???
idea for next project: T-72B3/T-80BVM in ukraine war
Great work. I like wooden panels a lot. How do you judge final effect comparison to for example miniart planks on gaz aa series trucks. Would you keep them as they are? I don't think so...
What is that concrete nightmare you're standing next to in the very beginning? Is that a... vineyard? Do they grow grapes on barbed wire there? Well, waste not, want not, I guess...
That black superglue you use? Can you please tell me more about it? Brand and how is it different to clear superglue? Does it have the fumes? Thanks
I love your stuff I really look up to you great job on the model so far can’t wait to see it painted! Also I have a question I know you have other projects in mind but I would love to see you build a SPAAG of some sort like the takom 1/35 scale Soviet zsu or the sergeant York.
Don`t feel bad about buying another kit . I have the Takom Big Tiger Box on the way and I ordered another Late Hetzer from Takom lastnight as well .
Nice build. Ever thought of doing a reactive armored M60 in Desert Storm motife?
Another great job Martin. Wish I could have teach me in person some of your skills. Cheers from the States.
Don't know if you do requests, but if you have a Swedish vehicle that you have unopened somewhere it would be really cool if you could build that. Preferably with m90 camo since it seems pretty hard to do atleast for me. And there are barely any builds for Swedish vehicles or other small countries. Thank you in advance for response.
STOP IT! How can I possibly attain this level of expertise?
I've bought an Eduard f6f profi pack for 8 euro, it was cheaper than the paints and glue i was buying anyway
Nice one Martin! Looking forward to seeing this finished. Sorry for the noob question but I am very curious: why did they put wooden boards on the side? I’m just guessing, but was it to stop magnetic anti tank mines?
Maybe next one will be T-34/76 in your collection ;) Sherman top work !
Epic build dude! I just stumbled upon your channel recently bit have really been enjoying the content. BTW, have you ever tried using tracing paper soaked in diluted PVA glue for tarps? It becomes really maliable and can give really good effects.
Speaking of which, when will you build a gunpla model!? I’ve been interested in seeing you build one for a few years now and I actually thought we might see it after that MaK build! I think you could do something really cool with the weathering and detailing.
Martin, Sherman’s have “Live” tracks, so there should be no track sag 👍
The first 10 seconds: "Did you find a kid with so low price that you had to take it, even though you didn't know what you're going to do with it?"
Sorry XD
I do the same thing so often, look through all my parts, kits, and bits and think I'll do something that uses only items I already have. Then I start and suddenly I'm ordering more cool bits and pieces. Oops.
Nice change.
Btw any plan to build any giant russian modern tank or truck? Could be interesting to see.
I'm going to do a m4 Sherman with zimmerit on the sides and front. This was an allied experiment in 1945. You can look it up on UA-cam under zimmerit sherman. Perhaps you would consider doing that to your other sherman .
I'd like to see an M3 Grant/Lee in Burma from 1943-45 😊❤😊
Hey Uncle Nightshift do you still use your octopus stand ? Ive been looking to buy one but I don’t think anyone makes them. Any ideas ?
Hello! I’ve been a fan of your content for a long time, and I’ve wanted to get into modeling for a while now, but I’ve never been sure where to start. Are there any specific kits you would recommend for complete beginners?
I would love to see a battle diorama using 1/100 scale models, if you don't have anything else planned of course
King Kong. Felicidades🎉🎉🎉.
I think you're misremembering what happened in _Misery._
I have recently gotten into model making I have made a few gundam model kits, and I just finished my first tank, I used enamel paint for everything because that is what my dad used when he painted models. I have quite a few enamel paints, but do you think i should switch to acrylic paint because it's not nearly as toxic. Or do you think it's fine as long as I am wearing a mask. Also what paint is better for painting model kits, and what paint is better for painting terrain, or are they about the same as long as you get the consistency right?
One thing that Nightshift gets wrong is his welds. Many times it's stated that weld stays bright and not rusty. This is 100% incorrect. Welds and the material around them known as the heat affected zone rust far more quickly than the base metal. The only reason some welds are bright is because they are raised in areas where they might get regularly stepped upon.
A 1/48 U-Star tank with interior, please. On the other hand, great video as always
Wonder if he'd ever consider doing a warhammer 40k tank in his style, that'd be awesome
So, wooden planks are the Zimmerit of the USMC? 🤔
Lovely video as always!
Would love to see you do something with the Swedish Bandvagn sometime, its one of my favorite vehicles 🙂
Revell HMS Ark Royal, just don't buy it tho
For me, you should do Trumpeter's 1/35 object 292
Were are you, we haven't seen you in a month , hope your OK.
Please can you finish this tank.
