“What does that say about me as a person that my stuff is everywhere” - YESSS EXACTLY 👏🏼 the self judgment and doubt over not being able to “stay on top of” my house is so so real and demoralizing for me! Thank you for explaining this issue in such a positive and understanding way. I’m currently gathering a box of stuff to donate as I listen to this! 🤗

Yay! A free ideas that have helped me is saying Done is better than perfect, embrace " good enoigh", asking myself if I were moving would I want to pack, slep, unpack, find a home, containerize, etc..usually the answer is no. Same when bringing new stuff in my space either buying or hand me down- do it want to move this item & dust it, out it back, & again usually not. AND Tiny changes ( Book Atomic Habits- James Clear, The ONE Thing- Gary Keller, Better Than Before- Gretchen Rubin). All the very best!

I never understood how much anxiety was connected to clutter until I started living a minimal life. We have donated or thrown out thousands of items in the last two years. We live in a smallish home that was just bursting at the seams with stuff. Thanks for your calm guidance, it has helped so much!

Thank you for this video! My husband is way more relaxed than me and doesn’t seem to mind when there’s stuff everywhere whereas I’m the complete opposite. It makes me so overwhelmed and low in mood. I think I’ll chat with him about it. I love him so much and I would hate for it to get in the way of our happy marriage. Thanks again xx

It's such an important message which needs to spread,it makes a huge difference in life. Also the focus on materialistic life has ruined peace of mind of today's society. I feel claustrophobic to clutter always and affected my mental health

I’m a newcomer to your channel and loving your content. I’ve subscribed to a minimalist and mindful lifestyle for a few years and it has only been a positive change for me. I think that the connection between women’s cortisol levels and clutter has got to do with the mental load women still bear in relation to managing the household while also having full time jobs.

actually starts from 3:22 number 1, clutter increases stress on a hormonal level. your environment impact your body and how you experience the world. number 2, clutter can reduce your focus. having more visual stimuli is shown to have more negative effects on where your focus lies. number 3, it can impact on your important relationships. one top factor in divorce is household issue. 4 clutter impact on overal life satisfaction.

We are currently trying to sell our home after living in it for 21 years. We came to this home with clutter that was transferred from our former home. It took 3 days to remove everything that was in the attic. Nearly all was destroyed from heat & insects. My spouse is still trying to transfer some of this stuff to a new home. It's very frustrating. I am trying my best...but, have a health issue that really limits me physically. Your memory of how clutter affected you was palpable. It's sort of how I'm feeling now..

you can do this. it's hard bc it's so emotional. once you gain momentum it'll become easier... we lived in our house for 22 years--two kids, two dogs... it was a lot... but i tried to focus on where i was heading & vowed to travel lightly in the next stage. you can do this stargazer. we can do hard things

The minimal mom has a great video where she shows that her things got destroyed in storage. She is so bummed out and says that she wished she would have donated the stuff, because now they cannot be used anymore and are goind to the dump. It is such a hard lesson to learn, but it happens to all of us!

there may be a confluence w the marriage issue: one partner may be spending a great deal of $$$ on squiring things... that might be the seminal issue...

I feel a constant need to stay on top of things. Our home holds 8 people & 7 dogs so there's so much stuff. Our front porch has turned into extra storage because of the amount of stuff. We can't relax in there. My bathroom supplies are in my bedroom rather than a bathroom because that's cluttered & I get items taken by other adults or destroyed by kids. It's frustrating.
Feeling always behind rather than "on top of it".
I wish I could live alone. I honestly don't have much stuff as a singular individual. I don't have a spouse or children or anything so I don't need to worry about extra people stuff in that nature.
It would be so much cleaner & organized to be alone.
    More peaceful too.

I feel that so much. I shared an appartment with two other people before (shared flat) and I had the feeling I wasn't allowed to take up any more space than the one in my tiny room. We had a giant kitchen, a giant living room, a normal bathroom, but I kept all my things in my room. The two were packrats as well, although they minimized over the 18 months we lived together.
Now I am living with my partner and the situation has improved significantly. Even if you don't have much stuff you must be allowed to take up space as a person.
I hope you can change something about your living situation soon.

@@Conval-wi5eh Thank you for sharing your quite similar experience. At least I know that I'm not the only one who's gone through this. Unfortunately my living situation isn't changing soon. Nobody can afford to move out so we all just continue with what is. Other household members get stressed too, I'm sure. It's not easy. I do want out.
