  • Today we take an in depth look on how to change a thermostat, as I received P0126 Code; insufficient cooling temperature in my Mazda 3.
    A pretty easy procedure to follow, I no longer have a check engine light, success!

    Is it necessary to remove the serpentine belt for this job? I know it makes the job a lot easier for the extra space but my belt is too tight to remove atm but want to fix the thermostat first before fixing whats wrong w the belt. Thanks

    So how did you bleed the air out of the system? I changed my thermostat and at an idle its not warming up with the heat on. Definitely air in the system.

    Hello, question. did you have to reset the engine light or did it go away it's self? thanks. great video btw

    • @staggeredhorizons3657
      @staggeredhorizons3657  7 років тому +2

      Hey Alex,
      after we got all of air out of the lines, coolant and everything back up to temperature, the Check Engine Light went off shortly after.
      If it doesn't automatically go off, reset it and you should be all good

    nice!! how much liters coolant should be supplemented afterwards?

    • @staggeredhorizons3657
      @staggeredhorizons3657  7 років тому

      you can use the min/max fill line on your coolant reservoir when adding back the coolant, and may have to play around with the in/out lines to get all of air out of the lines to fully circulate.

    Is a P0128 code the same thing?

    • @staggeredhorizons3657
      @staggeredhorizons3657  6 років тому +2

      not 100% sure but I would say yes, because P0128 is a coolant thermostat malfunction. Thanks for Watching

    I just took my drain plug out to change my antifreeze and for some reason I can not get my drain plug to screw back in. Do you have any suggestions or thoughts as to why this is not working for me? I have a 2006 Mazda 3 and the drain plug looks just like what you took out. I have tried removing the washer to see if I could get it to screw in because at first I thought maybe I could not compress the washer enough to get to the threads and get it started but it is almost like there are no threads for my drain plug to screw in to. I am confused and frustrated.

    • @staggeredhorizons3657
      @staggeredhorizons3657  7 років тому

      There is the possibility that the housing has stripped threads?
      is it continually turning 360degrees and not holding/screwing in? or...

    • @t.k.morris
      @t.k.morris 7 років тому

      It is a plastic plug that came out, 103k miles on car, doesn't sound logical to me that the threads in the radiator would be stripped but nothing makes any sense about this situation to me.

    • @staggeredhorizons3657
      @staggeredhorizons3657  7 років тому

      so is it spinning and just not grabbing the threads? or..

    • @t.k.morris
      @t.k.morris 7 років тому

      Seems like it can not go in far enough to reach thread or there are no threads inside the hole I took it out of. The hole is too small for me to get a finger in to feel for threads. I took the washer off of the drain plug but still got no threads to hold. I am completely stunned, thought maybe someone might know a trick to it.

    Is it necessary to drain the coolant??

    • @leojf3828
      @leojf3828 2 роки тому +1

      some people don't. but if you haven't this is a great time to do so. otherwise you may forget about it until the coolant is not protecting the engine as designed. do you really want to chance this?

      When my car was brand new it used to blow hot air now it doesn't. I guess this means I do need to change my thermostat.

    Always pays to test that thermostat works before you go to all that trouble of putting it back in . They have been known to not work correctly straight out of the box .

    Your video has given me the confidence to change this part myself. Just one question! After connecting everything back together. Is there anything else I need to do or just start the engine and go? Thanks

    • @staggeredhorizons3657
      @staggeredhorizons3657  7 років тому +1

      That's awesome! let me know how it goes and if you have any other questions
      once everything is back together, fill up the coolant reservoir again with coolant until you're at the right level, and you may need to get all the air out of the lines as well. (turn on your heat while doing this because you'll be able to feel the heat to know the coolant is circulating properly) Your check engine light should disappear in a little while after, if it doesn't just have the CEL cleared and you should be all good to go. Again, let me know if you have any problems or questions
      Thanks for Watching!
