Steve Park's first Cup win; he led a race high 53 laps (laps 31-56 and laps 64-90), and won by a margin of .384 seconds. 33 drivers were on the lead lap, and 37 drivers were running at the finish.

I was there and was also a season ticket holder at "The Ninety" from 1997 to 2009. Sat on the viewing berm in turn 1 from 1991-1996 until we were able to get seats. Back when Nascar had waiting lists for tickets!
What a fun race. Jerry Nadeau and Steve Park running great, Robby Gordon was a beast. Imagine if they couldve all qualified. Probably would've been an epic battle between Park, Nadeau, Robby, and Boris Said who didn't even get to race.
Earnhardt had a track bar bolt sheer off and that is what caused his crash. It was an unfortunate day for favorites early on. Great day for Steve Park. Long overdue win.
@@gary24fan lol you obviously dont know racing buddy. There is always excuses with everybody. Thats the way it goes. And it could be true and maybe not. Either way the way it hit the wall with the rear it would be hard to tell if it happened pre or post wreck. But also this was the same guy who qualfied and ran the whole race at the same track with only one working arm. So I do also kind of doubt he would just loose it on his own. But who knows stuff happens.
I was a super huge Dale Earnhardt fan... very rarely did u see Earnhardt make a mistake on a road course and wreck. I've always heard ppl say Earnhardt wasn't much of a road course racer. I competent disagree with them. Dale was always competitive at the road course races. Now is is true Dale only has 1 road course win at the than named, Sears Point Raceway later on in his career in 1995 by passing Mark Martin with like 3 laps to go, but Dale led a lot of laps at Walkins Glen, always ran great at Riverside Raceway... Could have won at the Glen in 1996 if it weren't for his injuries 2 week prior so Talladega, when he broken his sternum, broke his collar bone, bruised pelvis bone, and a chipped shoulder blade. So obviously I liked all the DEI drivers and u liked Steve Park when he first started driving the ACDelco Chevrolet in there Busch Series for Dale Earnhardt Inc. Its just ashame Steve Park sustained many injuries while in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. His practice wreck at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 1998, his rookie year that broke his leg, then his head injury from his accident at Darlington Raceway when he got t-boned in the drivers side door after the steering wheel came off in his hand, or the rear axle broke when he throttled up to clean the rear tires and when the rear axle, it just turned his car left, right in front of Foyt. It was so horrible. Sorry my comment ended up being so long. If someone knows if it was the wheel coming out of Steve's hands, or if it was the rear axle that broke. If anyone knows, please let me know, bc I can't remember which it was... Thank you Thank you, Tre Cool
Steve Parks steering wheel came off when he checked it before a restart. I know Earnhardt fans are bias, but it is insanely obvious he was a less than average road course driver and the facts prove it. Even during his 24hrs of Daytona win, he was the slowest of all of his teammates according to lap times. Not sure why you would be pissed at "yankees" cheering his loss of car control. Most of his fans cheered when Gordon wrecked.
yeah Steve Park could've been great like Jerry Nadeau had they not had many injuries tho with Nadeau he was in a career ending crash (at least it was that and not worse)
See, modern NASCAR can learn some things from this race. In today’s world they would’ve bunched the field up for a pointless caution for Sterling Marlin. Throw in the double file restarts and the need to go go go because of the all star race format with the bogus stages, and you have a recipe for Get there-itis. Idiots driving like they stole it the whole race creates excess cautions. NASCAR needs to go back to letting the drivers have control over a race. Gone are the good fuel mileage battles from the 100 lap plus green flag runs.
18:45 broke my heart I remember I was pounding and punching my living room floor and I was cussing out those Yankee fans who were cheering when hit hit the wall. I was so pissed. I think I was more pissed that the fans were cheering bc he wrecked. 🤬🤬🤬🤬
I thought the comments by the commentators regarding Jeff Gordon after the Stewart incident were unprofessional. I know it was "off air" but it shows how biased these guys really were. Bob Jenkins was always a pud and we all know Jerry Punch's love affair with the Earnhardts but I was surprised by "Gentleman" Ned's comment regarding "a lot of ego involved there." So much for the nice guy image. Jenkins: "Jerry what's the update on Earnhardt?" Me: "He died six months later because he wouldn't mount his seat belts correctly, you insufferable Indiana asshole!"
Man, have you _nothing_ positive to say about Bob Jenkins? The man suffered from brain cancer this year and unfortunately lost that battle, so perhaps you should lay off the negativity! Sure, he made some mistakes and sometimes showed a bit of bias in the booth (as all announcers do from time to time), but he was as professional as they come.
@@NotSteveCookNice JFK reference. No idea why anyone thought that theory held up when the shot from the TSD was not hard for a decent shooter. I think it is possible JFK was hit by friendly fire too.

this is when nascar was still good without all the bullshit
Stewart knew there was only one way Gordon wouldn't win that race. Merry Christmas Steve Park.
I miss Bill Weber, wish he didn’t freak out and get suspended by TNT.
What happened?
Earnhardt had a track bar bolt sheer off and that is what caused his crash. It was an unfortunate day for favorites early on. Great day for Steve Park. Long overdue win.
Yeah it's always a mechanical issue when Earnhardt crashed. Never driver error right?

Dale was a decent road racer. If the sway bar broke, that would cause the car to immediately spin out in a road course turn.
