I loved watching Ron Fellows and Boris Said shake the field up in the road races. It's a shame neither of them could seal the deal with a win in a Winston/Nextel/Sprint Cup race.
Boris actually had better results and chances to win a cup race at Daytona. He got a pole there and a couple top 5’s. One of those races he ran top 10 all night and seemed to be the car to beat.
Dale Jarrett winning the pole for this race is crazy. Outdoing his RYR teammate Ricky Rudd (who was a good road course racer). Heck 2 months earlier at Sears Point he was on Gilligan's Island.
@@osurocks24 he wanted to forget that whole month. From title contender to struggling to stay top 5 in points in 4 races. 2001 was great as a DJ fan until the last race of July 😭
the 2001 season was my favourite season by far. it was the year i started following nascar. none of this follow us on twitter shit. those were the days. beam me up and take me back. take me the fuck back...
@paulsack21 Mike Skinner was injured in an accident at Chicagoland. He gave the knee a little time to recuperate, then came back way too early. Knowing his career was in the balance, he left Childress early (he was going out anyway) to get the surgery done. In this race, NBC inadvertently cost Robby Gordon the win after the in-car camera caught fire, and thus the car wasn't safe to drive.
thank you for uploading this. ive been searching for this race for a long time. you did the right thing uploading this and you will go to heaven for sure when you die.
which makes it all the crazier he won the pole for this race (over his RYR teammate who WAS a good road course driver). Heck in the other 01 road course, he was on Gilligan's Island at Sears Point
KA128183 NASCAR on NBC is back as of 2018. They cover the Coke Zero 400, Fall Talladega race, and the chase for the championship. Except that those races are either on NBC or NBC Sports Net.
Back when NASCAR was actually fun to watch. For me it was 2001-2007 but many think 1997-2003 was the best era for NASCAR. Either way it was great. I really enjoyed it when Fox and NBC took over coverage.
Totally agree man. Back then i wouldn't miss nascar races. Now a days i work a lot if i can see the race ill watch it but if i miss it i don't really care.
1:15:30 the fire that ended Robby's run. GPS telemetry equipment for the telecasts malfunctioned. The next year, he gave the NBC crew a model of his burned up car. Heh

Well it's a combination of things. The new NASCAR fans are idiots, the racing isn't as good anymore, Brian France (don't get me started) they won't let the drivers settle their on track issues, they can't speak their mind. But what has really been missing is the drivers have been missing a spokesman, if you will since Dale died. Fucking miss that guy, I may be a die hard Gordon fan but Dale Sr. was and always be the man!

Boris Said has retired from racing this past season.

I'll always remember this as the race Jeff Gordon learned how to do a proper burnout, courtesy of Kevin Harvick. Thanks for the post, man!

Dale Jarrett's best friend: the sand trap in turn 1
yep lol
That was the most memorable part of the race, him going in the sand trap not once but twice. Boy, did he want to forget that day.

28:28 and 1:23:31 gotta love Wally, and Benny in the booth XD
Don't forget Allen.
At 43:15 Gordon was trailing by like 5 sec and he gained it all back on pit road wow
At 26:47, "We're f*ckin' stuck!"
As great a superspeedway driver as Dale was, he was never a great road racer.
"Ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch!"
Actually, he was pretty good. He won at Watkins Glen in the Busch Series, vs Ron Fellows.

NBC was awesome back in the old days. I wish they were still around.

Anyone else agree that mark martins viagra paint scheme for this year was amazing?
Greatest Man That Ever Lived he really drove that car hard ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° )
jeremeymcdude lol he did , wonder how he felt about that car? :p

I could not have been pissed off more...
Gosh i loved hearing the Fuel Instrumental music!
OMG. ONE OF THE FIRST RACES I EVER WATCHED. ;)

RIP Benny Parsons
I was born 10 years too late
Started watching full time around 09, the gen 6 cars have been WAY better than gen 5 but man I miss these gen 4 cars
Gen 4 and Gen 3 are the best cars NASCAR history. With Gen 4 being more exciting out of the 2 of them.
osurocks 24 agree 100%
Something about watching stock cars that have no business being on a road course is great much better than today's
Good ol' wheel hop. Gets the best of them EVERY TIME!
Good race !!! Elliott Sadler on the last lap was hilarious.
Final New York Race with the World Trade Center.

thanx for the vids
@CarMan792 the only thing I liked that he did was the "you don't have to look it up because we already did" those had some fun facts in them
looking at pit stops in this era makes me curious how they dropped so much time. oh wait, failed college athletes and lots of training.
@CarMan792 -- I think that intro was prewritten for him.
@TheEgg185 This was my 1st year I started to really watch nascar completely too. We made a wise choice!
Damn Gordon was good there
Cool race to watch ty

I miss the old Watkins glen with the sandtraps. I know its safer now with the pavement, but the sandtrap always was entertaining to me.

Too bad for Robby Gordon his terrible attitude spoiled his on-track talent. Losing your ride to mediocrities like Kevin Lepage or Mike Skinner...
Bring back this broadcast team and have Dale Jr. take BP's (rip 😭) spot
