  • Today we look at a behind the scenes look of a lesson I gave a few weeks ago to two division 1 college baseball players. Antonelli Baseball is the #1 online resource for baseball instruction. We breakdown the mechanical aspects of hitting, fielding, throwing, and base running to make them easy to understand and actionable. We also cover the mental side of baseball and offer college baseball recruiting advice. We delve into the details that you will not find anywhere else.

    back hip drive and wrist action through the ball. Hip explosion and wrist and forearm strength are the things to focus on to increase bat speed. Great vid. As an instructor tired of hearing the bullshit about "exit velocity"; if you focus on "exit velocity" you tense up the muscles needed to increase bat speed and end up swinging with shoulders and eventually pull power away from the path of the ball. Correct mindset is not to worry about "adding" velocity to the baseball you're hitting but to redirect 100% of the velocity of the pitch back through the contact zone.
    Enjoy your vids Matt

    ah shit, extra innings! I used to hit there all the time. Love their hitting facilities and loved the stadium simulator. now as a PO in college, don't use it as much but a fantastic place for sure

    That instant auto-recite feedback from the system/app you guys are using here to measure the bat speed on each rep is invaluable. Most of us can't afford a Hittrax to constantly monitor exit velo, and a phone-based system would be great, even if only to measure bat speed. What are you using here?
    Also ... do you have a chart on average and plus bat-speeds by age group?

    • @AntonelliBaseball
      @AntonelliBaseball  7 років тому

      Absolutely! We are using Blast Motion. And I don't have a chart but can try to find one. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Hey, can you share what MLB players do on double headers? What kind of practice to do before the second game, or they just rest and have something to eat

    • @AntonelliBaseball
      @AntonelliBaseball  7 років тому +1

      Usually just eat something and then get loose again. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Can I ask what you saw in their swings and why you chose those drills. If I had a guess I'd say they were a bit stiff, kind of muscling the bat through the zone top down.. rather than creating whip through resistance then release?

    What age would you recommend getting your son a hitting coach? Can you start too early?

    • @AntonelliBaseball
      @AntonelliBaseball  7 років тому

      It really depends I guess. I think if it is a good hitting coach they can help any age kid. It can be tough to find good ones though.

      @Palmetto7070 7 років тому

      Thanks Matt...My younger son plays baseball but my older son plays golf competitively. So, I know where you are coming from with trying to find a good swing coach. We very extremely lucky when looking for my older son's golf coach. We found a great one but we see other coaches who we do not agree with. Thanks for the videos. You do a terrific job.

    Are they swinging with there shoulders or arm

    • @AntonelliBaseball
      @AntonelliBaseball  7 років тому

      Well I'd say the entire body is swinging. The shoulders do turn, the forearms turn the bat as well. You want to try and take the arms out of swinging the bat as much as you can though. Thanks for watching!

    What app are you using to measure the exit velo?

    • @thenukeman3657
      @thenukeman3657 7 років тому +1

      John Coker It's something advertised on MLB network a lot, I just can't remember what it's called. It's not just an app though, you have to buy something that goes on the end of your bat
