    I'm a high school player who had bat drag about a year ago. As soon as I fixed it i was absolutely destroying balls. Absolutely crucial to have the back elbow up

      Bonds didn’t have the back elbow up. Yes williams, hank Aaron, babe Ruth, etc … it’s not about the elbow being up the elbow needs to be back. But for kids that’s automatically where they go because the bat is too damn heavy.

    Finally. . .somebody that gets it. Staying connected with the lead arm, posture and alignment. Good scap load is also important. Thank you!

    There's plenty of information to get from just watching you load and start your swing
    I work with the tee a lot to try to find just how much I should drop the front shoulder (and what it actually does for my swing) and how much to turn my hips away from the pitcher when I load. If you have any advice on either, I'd take it!
    Also thanks a lot for posting frequently. Best baseball youtuber and there are lots of good ones.

    I had this problem in high school. I could only hit it hard to RF, only on outside 1/3 of the plate. All bc I was working on getting my hands in tight.

    Try starting your swing with the bat on your shoulder. Fixes a lot of issues, including bat drag and it's really simple to do. Give it a try.

    What position should the elbow be in at contact?

  • @johnnyjohnson1370
    @johnnyjohnson1370 5 років тому

    Big difference in drag and lag,,lag is good lag is power,,don't let the back elbow circle the belly button leading the back elbow.You glue it to the side ribs,don't let it float up,that loses support of your hands

    Hey Matt, I'm currently playing 3rd base in high school. Any tips on when to dive for a ball and when not to?

    • @reednaylor1894
      @reednaylor1894 7 років тому

      Thanks man Ive been trying to get used to it but my coach moved me from left field to 3rd base. Diving in the outfield is a big no-no with my coach so Im not entirely comfortable diving yet. Im going to try to get some extra reps in and see how it goes

    • @AntonelliBaseball
      @AntonelliBaseball  7 років тому

      It is tough to say. When in doubt, lay out for it. There are balls that are tough to decide whether or not to field standing up or not. That comes with reps and practice I think. Thanks of watching!!

    Can you talk about closed stance compared to open and so forth.... I prefer to teach open because it works for me, as to seeing the ball better

    • @philipbyars2834
      @philipbyars2834 6 років тому

      Jason Watson, take a look at what Bryce Harper does. He doesn’t really have too open of a stance, instead he turns his head more so that his dominant (left) eye sees the ball too.

    You did a good job of telling us what bat drag is, but your video is titled “How to correct bat drag”... I didn’t see any correction mechanisms.

    • @AntonelliBaseball
      @AntonelliBaseball  6 років тому

      Philip Byars you must have not watched the entire video. At 4 minutes I talk about how you need to get your back elbow up to correct it

    • @philipbyars2834
      @philipbyars2834 6 років тому +2

      Antonelli Baseball , thanks for the reply.
      I did watch the entire video and rewatched from 3:00-end (just in case I missed something).
      You did a great job explaining one of the major issues that affect 90% of 14 yr olds and younger but I still did not see any part to “correct” the action.
      I liked the video itself, just believe the title is misleading is all.

      I agree with your assessment. Search UA-cam for Epstein Hitting. There are a few guys with Jake that show what it is, explain what causes it and gives some drills to correct. Or search Baseball Barn- 'Bat drag, how to fix/correct it". Lastly, search Contact Drill on UA-cam. Good luck.

      Horrible clue,the hands don't punch anything,the barrel gets on plane early not the hands

  • @redpillforreal3053
    @redpillforreal3053 4 роки тому

    hitting too much tee or playing tball can cause this bat drag issue. Players who learn to hit bombs off tees, develop drag the bat because they larn to generate power that way. Then they get to coach pitch and strike out because they cant adjust bat swing plain. You'll see coach tell players "make the L & V" or "put a ball under the back arm and don't let it fall" or the worst "get out in front of ball"- all big mistakes - should always stay behind the ball and have elbow up a little like they taught you back in the day
