I don’t think he was under appreciated at all, I think if anything he was over pushed for how he performed. The wrist and finger wrapping was explained by stone cold on his podcast.
He stated at times you are so sweaty and your opponent as well. You barely have grip with your hands. So the tape or wrap helps have proper grip.
So when you do a move or spot. You dont loose grip or slip.
Also he stated it does help you joints and with certain moves or landings it helps a lot too.
Plus the grip issue applies to the mat and ropes too

Every wrestler has a different motive for it. In HHH'S documentary, it had multiple purposes.
      1. *Injury prevention.* He said he's broken his wrist (and fingers) a few times, so he always liked to tape his right wrist and hand, especially since that's his dominant one. Same for his knuckles.
      2. *Aesthetics.* He said as he was becoming The Game, this jacked badass, his look was part of the gimmick. Taping all knuckles, his left wrist and dominant hand contributed to his ability/perception to be a killer, a destroyer, a fighter.
      3. *Homage.* The last reason he said was to pay tribute to the old school wrestlers who would tape up.

    • @PhillyBagel
      @PhillyBagel 3 дні тому

I originally speculated it was to help stabilize the wrist for all the moves they have to do. But having something to help reliably grip on an opponent makes much more sense.

Tbf, it's a kinda reasonable question... You are absolutely correct in your logic, but see it from other perspective. Like The Undertaker is a 4 time WWE champion, so what?? No one cares about that. His streak and him being an absolute legit badass and fascinatingly entertaining figure is what made him immortal than many others. I think, the question is in more in that vein. Kurt Angle never mentions that he has been a 14 time World champion in pro wrestling, but that he is a WWE "Superstar", when promoting himself.

30:07 I met HBK and his wife a few years ago and I asked him if people at home call him Shawn or Michael. He said "It's Shawn. People even at home call me Shawn."
My brother and I met Kane at an airport and I dared him to call Kane by Glen. He said no and then dared me. I didn't do it either. It was "Kane, can my idiot brother ( his nickname from me) have your autograph?" He was a nice guy.

I saw HBK at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn't want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, "Oh, like you're doing now?" I was taken aback, and all I could say was "Huh?" but he kept cutting me off and going "huh? huh? huh?" and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like "Sir, you need to pay for those first." At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually "to prevent any electrical infetterence," and then turned around and winked at me. I don't even think that's a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

"Hunter" is the most interesting one to me, because it's not his shoot name (even though at media events he has been going by Paul "Triple H" Levesque lately), but its not his gimmick name either. Its seemingly infrequent that wrestlers refer to him as Triple H or even Trips or H, its typically Hunter. Which feels like the characters shoot name. He hasnt been called Hunter Hearst Helmsley on tv since the 90s.
My comparison would be if people addressed Toby McGuire as "Peter", or Robert Pattinson as "Bruce"

Shelton was probably the most athletically gifted out of all of them, but a personality of a sponge, that's why he wasn't going to work. He also wasn't one of the biggest guys, and Vince loves him the big heroes. Batista had the look which shot him up to the top quickly, but he flamed out just as fast, so did he really make it? Lesnar might not have taken it all that seriously. The guy was in MMA and tried out for the Minnesota Vikings. I don't think he's lazy. Orton had some natural in ring talent, but apparently liked to party a lot. Now you look at him and see his bloated up face. I never really cared for Orton personally.

Well, it means that from 2001-2005 I was a professional wrestler for WWE, or WWF as it was known back then. Now, was it all sunshine and rainbows for my entire career? Of course not. Do I wish I had done certain things differently? Of course I do. Was it an experience of a lifetime? You’re damn right it was. I agree. I think those 2 are both unique and should be protected. I get practically anyone can do them because they aren’t the most technically challenging, but still…

That's one of the biggest reasons I can't watch the current product.
And there's more technique into HHH'S pedigree than Austin's jawbreaker.

They're not worthy is ridiculous lol. Two of the top guys and workhorses for the past decade plus. Obviously they're not Stone Cold level, but Owens using his move makes sense. And lol at them being unworthy of anything Triple H was worthy of.

@@radicalstanza3614 NONE if them are worthy, or on HHH'S level.

The person chasing the title is the main draw.
I never looked at it from that perspective and I could see how that works now 🤯

At times yes, when Austin lost the belt in 98 he spent a lot of time chasing that belt. Now you do have your characters that are better holding that belt being chased, Hogan, Cena, Roman, Triple-H. Yet there are a ton of draws that could do the chasing.

I heard, regarding the clap, like the Randy example that he claps to let the opponent know whether to take that scoop slam or reverse/avoid it. a clap is to take the slam, no clap is to not take it or reverse it

I taped my wrists when I used to wrestle at first because I thought it looked good, but after I did it the first time I realized how good of support it provides.

Hey Maven. For some reason we all drew to you even while you were green. You were relatable, looked like your average athletic male. I think it made the fans think they could wrestle to. What do you think makes YOU resonate with the fans? Much love brother. Not many superstars i wanna meet, but youre one. Yes, youre a superstar now brother man.

I had heard before that wrestlers taped their wrists because their opponents are slippery from sweat and baby oil. Taping the wrist give the other guy something to grip on to when doing moves like throwing the other into the ropes.
