Hi maven, im a huge fan and am training to become a wrestler myself. Thank you for all the advice and all the videos u make. They’re super educational and im so thankful that i have your channel to help me get better and learn a thing or two about the industry. ❤️
Hey Maven, wrestling fan here. Never thought that I would enjoy this kind of videos to make honest review for wrestling as a whole. But you definitely nailed it! Looking forward for more of your great videos man! Road to 1M subscribers hopefully. Would love to see you back in the business as “Commentary” 👍🏼
LOVE Maven and this channel. Love watching this channel grow and can't wait to see 1m subs!! Keep being yourself and you'll get there! I do have to say its TOTALLY bogus how the WWE uses "independent contractor" to get around pay/benefits/taxes but ALSO somehow limit what wrestlers can do like tats, outside work, schedule, etc... It's totally BS. It is quite literally getting your cake and eating it too. I hope someday wrestlers smarten up and unionize to get what they deserve. To see ex-superstars begging for money online is inexcusable for a mutli-billion dollar company.
I got thinking. When you said about pay increase for high risk matches. Those matches would never be the first or second match on the card. Those are usually highlights of the night, even if they’re not the headliner. Therefore those talent would be getting paid well already, and then they have that “incentive” I also agree with you about WWE in this case not so much worried about your well-being but rather “their investment” as you put it (I like that actually). I worked construction for over 18 years, and although the risks are very real, and is a physically demanding job, our boss wasn’t a bad guy, but you knew in his eyes, if you couldn’t be there, wether sick or hurt, he wanted you to get better, because he needed you back to work And about the developmental territories, I feel that was a “fair” way to keep you working, and to temporarily “demote you”, so you can improve, instead of just firing you. That’s actually, to me anyways, is pretty good of WWE. (I want to call the developmental territories, the “farm league”, that the Canadian hockey fan in me, sorry Maven)
I'm so happy to see you succeed! You have a great way of sharing insights without talking down about the wrestlers, company, or business in general. Thoroughly entertaining. Thank you!
This is a great video, but I just wanted to comment to say that I also like how you handled the sponsorship. You made it fun and tied it in with the video and a creative way.

I stopped watching wrestling before your era, I loved wrestling so much back in the day (80s and 90s) ! now I like your videos because I am learning a lot from you about the Business ! a very good initiative so thank you Maven !
Hey Maven, awesome to see you! 😄 Just wondering, are you and The Undertaker still planning that one final match? 🥊 I hear he’s still recovering from the last time you tossed him out! 😂👊
The piped in crowd noise was probably the most jarring revelation when I went to my first house show. You can get away with it in a real arena, but it looks and sounds weird when you're in some hole in the wall tiny 5,000 seat arena that's usually used for amateur indoor soccer. You can literally see everybody else's face in the seats and they're playing the "full stadium cheers" soundtrack on the speakers and it makes it seem like you're attending an event with the world's most talented collection of ventriloquists.
"WWE wrestlers can't accept acting roles without company approval." Maven: That Myth is True. Jesse Ventura: Tells Vince, Screw You I'm doing Predator.
@@pigs18 worked out well for Sarge. Probably made as much as he was making in the WWF working fewer dates and getting the GI Joe residuals. He still ended up coming back to the company in 1991 and having a long 2nd career with WWE as a producer / agent. Nice run for Sarge.
Maven better be getting main event pay for these ad reads because I rarely listen to ads but I always sit through his because he comes off so clear and professional. I can definitely see his QVC background a bit there 😂
Jesse Ventura just told Chris Van Vliet that he had to ask Vince to do Predator. But when Vince wouldn't return his calls, he accepted the role and quit WWF when Vince finally called back. Vince tried to get Ventura to fire his agent and use one of theirs so that he could get a piece of the pie. Shady. Also, I still wonder how of Dirty Dom's heat/boos is piped in. Some attendees say the boos are universal, but not as loud as it comes off on TV.
They don’t just add crowd reaction for tv, they do it for live events. I went to see a Royal Albert Hall show in the 90’s and had a seat in a box. There was cheering coming from the speakers above us.
maven for your next video can you give us the classic “hey guys, maven here. from 2001 to 2005 i had the best job in the world” its like your entrance song but for youtube
I would love for you to talk about both your fractures and the recovery time and how you felt during.. right now I'm recovering from a broken arm and i would love to hear your recovery stories and how you felt during healing. LOVE THE VIDEOS BTW AWESOME JOB 😎🙌🙌🙏👏
The closest thing to "Do wins & losses affect pay?" being true would probably be the Winner's Purse, which I believe is still 100% a real thing in pro wrestling. Sure, it's all pre-determined, but giving the winner of a match a little extra money is still a reliable way for the booker to say "I'm putting my faith in you, & I'm even putting down extra money to prove it, so prove to me that you're worth it".
Proud of myself after being able to say for all of them if they were true or false correctly, before you give your answer. Some of them were common sense, and, some of them I knew because my knowledge is based on things we've heard through the years. Like, " only WWE wrestlers are allowed in the locker room " , I remember Juventud Guerrera getting heat for bringing his girlfriend ( or wife maybe, not sure ) in the locker room to a show, so, if he got heat for it, it pretty much let us know that it's True. The " Wrestlers need permission from WWE to get tattoos " and the " WWE wrestlers can't accept acting roles without company approval " , I remember Rusev getting severe heat from Vince just for cutting his hair. If simply getting a haircut ( which ain't a big deal, since it'll grow back anyway ) can bring wrestlers heat, it feels obvious wrestlers can't do anything at all without WWE's approval ( getting a tattoo, accepting acting roles, ect ) , so those were obvious True. The " WWE plants fake fans in the audience to start chants or reactions " was an obvious False. Why was it obvious ? The reason was given in the video. It's because the " WWE manipulates crowd noises " is True. That simple. Why would they plant fake fans to get reactions, when they can easily manipulate the crowd noises anyway and add the chants and reactions they want to have ?... I mean, it would feel like a wasted effort. Don't need to plant fake fans to start chants or reactions, when we can add them anyway by pressing a simple button. The fact that WWE manipulates crowd noises is something we've always known, and for anyone who wasn't sure if WWE could do that or not, well, 2020 happened 😄 . WWE were producing shows in an empty arena, with just screens in the background showing people's webcams without sound. It was hours of entire shows each week with fake crowd noises from start to finish since there weren't any crowd at all to make any noise. So, for anyone who had doubts before if that's something the WWE can do or not, I don't think there's much room for doubts after that. 😅 . Knowing that they can do it so easily, it would be completly useless to plant fake fans, don't need that. It's always cool to have confirmation about all these things from someone who lived things on the inside though.
Hey Maven, Chance here. From 2001-2005 I was hoping you would become the WWE champion, but in2024, I am enjoying you being on YT and bringing us this great content!
Yours is my favorite non-federation-associated wrestling channel on UA-cam. You're the only one I've seen who isn't out there bashing the competition for whom you never worked. I used to subscribe to a bunch of wrestler's channels, but you're the only one I watch anymore.
I remember a show in Winnipeg, Manitoba one time before the wrestling even started as the crowd was still coming in(most were sitting down already) a ring announcer entered the ring and asked the crowd how would they react if a certain wrestler would come out and the fans would cheer or boo and they would do this with a couple of wrestlers names ( always at least 1 face and one heel were mentioned). I never thought much about it then because I was just a young kid watching the event and just thought the WWE was just interacting with it's fans and having a memorable evening. It wasn't until later in life when I worked in television that I really understood what they were doing that night. The WWE was just recording the boos and cheers to play over the actual crowd noise for television and not tell the crowd what they were really doing.

Dang, Maven one of the best wrestling podcasters alive.
7:35 "but guys like Dave Meltzer, guys who run the DirtSheets, they're not pulling this stuff out of their ass..."
Well, it certainly seems like they do lol
Nowadays Dave just watches Internet clips without understanding the context or gets scoops from insiders who are full of bull.
Maven thank you very much for getting straight to the point and not wasting any time! Doing something like that will make me stay right till the end of the video!
Maven's ability to sneak us AD'd while talking about WWE is greatest ever😂
You have a great channel for the wrestling business. Your segway's into the sponsor is legendary.
Those D-Von bumps were kooky
Were what?
Maven such a great guy you are very inspiring though I started watching WWE from 2011 -2012 had lost interest near 2022-2023 but since finding your channel it has made be more interested in watching wrestling again
The sponsor integration was the smoothest 😂
Hi maven, im a huge fan and am training to become a wrestler myself. Thank you for all the advice and all the videos u make. They’re super educational and im so thankful that i have your channel to help me get better and learn a thing or two about the industry. ❤️
I hope you never run out of things to talk about. These videos have become a highlight of my week!
We still have plenty of ideas… don’t worry
Hey Maven, wrestling fan here. Never thought that I would enjoy this kind of videos to make honest review for wrestling as a whole. But you definitely nailed it! Looking forward for more of your great videos man! Road to 1M subscribers hopefully. Would love to see you back in the business as “Commentary” 👍🏼
Hey maven can you bring on Brett hart and make him talk about goldberg
Steve, Taker, Dwayne... all had big input into their character
how else can you explain the biker taker phase?
I got thinking. When you said about pay increase for high risk matches. Those matches would never be the first or second match on the card. Those are usually highlights of the night, even if they’re not the headliner. Therefore those talent would be getting paid well already, and then they have that “incentive”
I also agree with you about WWE in this case not so much worried about your well-being but rather “their investment” as you put it (I like that actually). I worked construction for over 18 years, and although the risks are very real, and is a physically demanding job, our boss wasn’t a bad guy, but you knew in his eyes, if you couldn’t be there, wether sick or hurt, he wanted you to get better, because he needed you back to work
And about the developmental territories, I feel that was a “fair” way to keep you working, and to temporarily “demote you”, so you can improve, instead of just firing you. That’s actually, to me anyways, is pretty good of WWE. (I want to call the developmental territories, the “farm league”, that the Canadian hockey fan in me, sorry Maven)
14:33 JUST LIKE GREEEN SHIRT GUY😂😂
I'm so happy to see you succeed! You have a great way of sharing insights without talking down about the wrestlers, company, or business in general. Thoroughly entertaining. Thank you!
I was waiting for the ad for an eternity as soon as he got into the data brookers part 💀
This is a great video, but I just wanted to comment to say that I also like how you handled the sponsorship. You made it fun and tied it in with the video and a creative way.
19:59 "after you'd be up to the Big Show" intentional pun? 😮
I’ve heard some PPV bonuses for mid card/ underneath guys were great because that’s how Vince showed appreciation. Cash over words.
All the crowd noise during the thunderdome was real 🤣😂
They also plant fake fans. Have you noticed when something would happen that they would point the camera at a fan(s) and they'd have this overly exaggerated reaction? Look at the dude in the crowd in 2020 when Edge returned at the Royal Rumble. Definitely a plant.
I am not from the United states and I discovered your channel not long ago ! I stopped watching wrestling before your era, I loved wrestling so much back in the day (80s and 90s) ! now I like your videos because I am learning a lot from you about the Business !
a very good initiative
so thank you Maven !
Myth: WWE listens to the fans.
Yet they won't accept any ideas for angles/storylines or moves.
Listening an acquiescence are different things.
That triple threat tag match from 2001 was by far one of the craziest and best matches of all time.
"WWE wrestlers can't accept acting roles without company approval."
Maven: That Myth is True.
Jesse Ventura: Tells Vince, Screw You I'm doing Predator.
Sgt. Slaughter went to AWA to do the G.I. Joe cartoon.
@@pigs18 The Ball's Old School Wrestlers had.
@@SkullKnightmare775 yes, when they had options.
@@pigs18 worked out well for Sarge. Probably made as much as he was making in the WWF working fewer dates and getting the GI Joe residuals. He still ended up coming back to the company in 1991 and having a long 2nd career with WWE as a producer / agent. Nice run for Sarge.
Barry Bloom's name comes to mind when it comes to some of the boys 🤔
11:45 they do it both with Canned Heat and Cheap Pop. Why do you think the good guys always shout out the local sports franchises?
The good guys just happen to be a fan of each and everyone of those teams, no? 🤔
I hate how SMOOTH this man Is going into ad reads HE CANT KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS
Tbh if Nick Aldis becomes an active wrestler again, Maven could be a good Smackdown GM
Maven better be getting main event pay for these ad reads because I rarely listen to ads but I always sit through his because he comes off so clear and professional. I can definitely see his QVC background a bit there 😂
17:24 Meanwhile Perry Saturn still walking around with the mop for a girlfriend 🤣 gimmick.
That was a punishment to be fair lol. It was either do that or get fired.
Was that mic'd from the crowd or a fake sound entirely
@@KaitouKaiju The chant sounded like American voices so I’d say it was added in.
Why were you sitting in a box? You couldn’t see anything from inside of a box. Did you poke holes through it or something?
This man has the SMOOTHEST transitions to ads 🥶
Mave, that Segway into the ad was on F’ng point buddy!
*segue*
unless he rode a Segway into the ad read. ;)
Anyone: asks Maven a question about WWE
Maven: During my time...
🤣
I understand some ppl want to BE Maven but don't steal his identity you fools.
Fr bro
That has to be the slickest sponsor transition in the entire youtube universe. Mave you a like slick rick! 👊🏼
maven for your next video can you give us the classic “hey guys, maven here. from 2001 to 2005 i had the best job in the world” its like your entrance song but for youtube
This comment needs to be bumped up to the top. It really is like his entrance at this point, i genuinely look forward to hearing it at this point 🤣
I'm stuck in the toilet help me
Me too
Jesus is coming look busy
Were he at
RIP brother
The poop isnot stuck
Start a T-shirt with "hey guys, Maven here"
The closest thing to "Do wins & losses affect pay?" being true would probably be the Winner's Purse, which I believe is still 100% a real thing in pro wrestling. Sure, it's all pre-determined, but giving the winner of a match a little extra money is still a reliable way for the booker to say "I'm putting my faith in you, & I'm even putting down extra money to prove it, so prove to me that you're worth it".
I usually hate sponsors... but how you work them into your content is actually pretty damn charming
Chyna stepped into the spotlight but it certainly wasnt the hollywood spotlight lol
She hulk and a night in Chyna 😂
That was a pretty good segway into the video sponsor. Well done Maven you’re getting creative.👏🏼👏🏼

Hey Maven, Guys here
Your sponsorship game is definitely top tier... main event calibre
Greatest ad transition ever.. I’ll watch it this week.
The Keyboard cat got me LOL 😂😂😂 you the man Maven!! ❤❤❤❤ 👍
Every maven post is a blessing
Maven has been doing UA-cam for about 30 seconds, and already has the smoothest ad transitions on the platform. Nice work brother! 🔥🔥
Your response to the first question is just another reason why you are so awesome
Aye, I rocked Al's JOB Squad shirt for years, years ago, lol. Also, I remember the Skiing Wtestler, lmao!
In the time I watched this, the views jumped from 367 to 5,186...keep it up Maven!
