Highly recommend people listen to that full interview on here. Punk hasn't helped himself at times fair enough but easy to portray him as someone bitter towards the company when he had very valid reasons to be as frustrated as he did. Hey Maven. I am truly enjoying all the content you have put out thus far. Back when you were still in WWE, I was still in my late teens in the Philippines, and my cousins and I watched smackdown and raw every week on cable without missing any episode. I have to admit, embarrassing as it may be, back then I never really appreciated you enough being in the ring as my attention was focused on Batista, Brock Lesnar, Goldberg, and Eddie Guerrero. However, I am proud to say that I have become a big fan because of your videos on youtube. I appreciate your humility, eloquence, and gift of telling your experiences that really connects with me, and in the process giving me a new perspective of what went on in the world that fascinated me in my teens and throughout my mid 20s. I also find your grateful and appreciative attitude towards your former colleagues and former employer quite refreshing. I wish you even greater success, good sir!
Loving this channel Maven, you seem really sincere and empathetic to your former colleagues … which (going from other wrestling shoots) is very rare in the business. Keep it up mate, following from Australia
Was really looking forward to this particular vid and it was very well worth it for your perspective on that CM Punk shoot. (BTW, Maven, if you want to see something unintentionally scary, pause right at the start of the video!)
I think it would have been hypocritical if he went back to Vince’s wwe, but he went back to hunters wwe which by all accounts from the news and wrelsters interviews it seems it’s a hell of a lot better place under him, and the product is far more enjoyable too. I bet you as soon as Vince got booted he had his mind set on going back especially since it was not long after he was backstage at that one episode of raw catching up with HHH and others
Everytime I hear this Punk podcast, it becomes clearer that it wasn't "black and white" issue and it was more complex concerning wwe's "the show must go on" mentality and punk's aggressive tone he gives off. You just can't side with one of them fully when you hear these grievances punk had. It sounded like a workplace environment where you got shafted into a place regardless if the company knew what it was doing or not (look at nexus, roman's early pushes, dolph, new guys coming up). Hopefully, punk and hhh can work along well now seeing the fans really did miss him since he left. -anyways, another great vid btw maven.
It really isn't that complex; WWE had a toxic "show must go on" mentality, which is responsible for many wrestler deaths (a couple of them were Punk's friends). Punk, in the end, realized how stupid and not worth it was and left. Concidentally, afterwards, they finally started giving wrestlers proper time off. Probably had to do with the bad press Punk gave them.
I love how Maven is able to make videos that are capable of being tied to another video he has done in the past. While watching this video, i forgot that he also did the video about being Punk's first televised opponent. Kudos Maven, keep up the good work.
I’ve watched undertaker and Kane in I believe 2010 live in a house show in Shreveport Louisiana as a kid .. they for sure didn’t have to be at a house show! I don’t ever remember the match but I’ll remember the entrance for ever !
Maven, bro I remember watching you on the first tough enough I believe back when it was still wwf and have always been a fan. I'm glad to see you still looking good and healthy man. Thanks for the channel reliving the great days of wrestling it's very nostalgic.
He Maven, I am from India, and following wrestling since 1991. Must say, your show is the most refreshing take on wrestling topics and something one can watch the same episode over and over again. Plus your presentation skills, the way you speak are amazing to say the least. Keep up the good work, bro!
The return of CM Punk to WWE after nine years is nothing short of remarkable. Considering the issues he had with the company in the past, it's astonishing to think that he not only made his comeback but is also thriving in his current role. The fact that he is now engaged in one of the most epic feuds of the modern era, potentially even one of the greatest rivalries of all time with Seth Rollins, is truly mind-blowing. This story is the living embodiment of the phrase "never say never". It's a testament to the unpredictable nature of the wrestling business and a reminder that anything can happen if the circumstances are right. It's an inspiring example of how determination and perseverance can pay off in the end, no matter how unlikely the odds may seem.
Too be fair, It is not like you have a lot of options if your a wrestler. If you want to make big money saying I will never work again in the WWE is a pretty silly thing to say cause were else are you going to go?.
@@DookieDodger9953Not true Vince McMahon blocked him coming back it was supposed to happen in 2019. When Fox bought the rights to Smackdown. They were pushing for it and at the time he was willing to listen. Vince stopped it. And to be clear I'm not dissing AEW everything that happened is done. But if Vince McMahon was still there he would not be in WWE right now. Triple H and Nick Khan brought him back.
This is awesome! This is good not only because it emphasizes the difference in philosophy on the business, but it shows how people's views on things they experienced in the past or just their general feelings on thing can change!
Your insight about WWE has provided another level beyond what people knows about the industry. You are genuine and should continue to share content like this. With regards to Punk, he wanted to be like Taker, Brock, Cena and the Rock in terms of influence, fame and especially compensation but he could never achieve it so jealousy drove him to expose WWE for all the bad culture about WWE. Neither Punk nor WWE care about each other in this reunion because the bottom line is about making money from each other.
Maven you should react to Jonathan Coachman and what he had to say about his recent stint with WWE, speaking about wwe always paying their guys. I think this story might surprise you. Keep up the great work!

Punk said "it's okay to be bitter, but you eventually have to work through it and get over it." And maven only heard "it's okay to be bitter." Punk is saying it's okay to be bitter because that is natural human emotion. You were screwed over or hurt by somebody, you're going to be bitter about it. That's normal. But, you can't carry that bitterness around for ever. That's what punk said. Maven said "no, it's not okay", which is equal to saying "you can't feel love, happiness, or sadness." It's okay to feel, yall. Just don't carry the negative emotions with you forever.
Yeah, another thing Maven kind of took out of context was when Punk said, "Nobody could lace my boots that night." He only heard, "Nobody could lace my boots.". And yeah, that is still cocky, but Punk isn't the first or last wrestler to say that. Maven also took it as him demeaning the other wrestlers, and I don't see it that way, imo.
@@misterundead425 I took that as Punk was talking about how at that time, he was at the top of the mountain and his career, Taker was past his prime and not a full timer, Brock was also a part timer, and Cena no offense, is not on Punks level in the ring or on the mic lol. So Punk felt the WWE was disrespecting him by paying part timers who were past their prime more then the guy who was supposed to be the top of their company at that time...him...
Hey Maven, you're modeling mature discussion and empathy with episodes like these. It's great to listen to you provide perspective and where you feel the need, respectfully disagree. This kind of work transcends wrestling and becomes a good life lesson in general. Keep it up!
100% truth on needing to make your point without having to demean others. Branching off into general career advice, I know of certain people that make more than me at my job and you never want to call a boss up and say "hey so and so makes this much more than me, what is up with that?" Best approach is knowing that there is room to get paid more and stating a case on the value you bring to the job
I really hope they don't put the belt on him... "Those guys couldn't lace my boots" He must have never seen himself wrestle. He got so over because he is RELATABLE, and his wrestling feels real. He's clumsy in the ring, stumbles around, maybe one of the least athletic guys on the roster (bottom half for SURE). He got so over because he is RELATABLE, he is great on the mic, and his matches feel like a real fight (mainly because of his realistic clumsiness, and his skill at selling)... However, burying Lesnar, Taker, HHH, Cena basically saying they are peons compared to himself is reprehensibly delusional of Punk.

@@kingjohn455 Shawn and Bret weren't small like those guys(They were also both jacked). It almost mostly has to do with the Indie stigma that Punk broke the glass ceiling for. Like I remember when Punk was originally in WWE talking about how, after the Pipebomb, he now gets asked whether or not they should sign somebody from the indies or bring somebody up to the Main Roster. another thing, you can argue that Bret's reign as a top guy only came because of the steroid scandal.
23:14-23:24 Well, in this case (as it has been for 10 years), Punk's side is totally accurate. Vince's response on Steve Austin's podcast was total BS. Plus, the things that have happened behind-the-scenes in-between when he first left WWE and when he returned proved his point.

Maven should pursue the announcing/interviewer gig for wwe again. I know he said the pandemic kind of ruined the opportunity. But I can really see him doing what Johnathan Coachman use to do. Think he’d be perfect for it
He’d be perfect for the PPV pre shows in the place of Roberts and Rosenberg
@@MikeHunt-fx9rgoh yea that would be great too, I’d take maven over Rosenberg any day

Maven's certainly got the voice for radio/announcing...and a face for primetime TV. All that makes me think of some dumb shit Nash was recently saying...that they can't make sense of Mav's accent. Going from saying you sound real southern, to just all over the place 🤦🏼♂️.
Maven, as someone who's lived their life both in California and the Southeast, you absolutely don't have an unusual dialect. Very rarely do you even pronounce things in the southern way. And the way you say "on" is very New Yorker-ish. Makes sense considering you live there now.
I wouldn't be surprised if this youtube channel exploding ends up giving him another opportunity for that.
Its amazing how honest Maven is while maintaining professionalism and class. So happy he made his UA-cam channel

I wrestled colt in 2011. This interview came out after that but I’ve listened to it hundreds of times and know it by heart. Love that maven to a bit on it
It's crazy how it all escalated quickly, Considering the issues he had with WWE at that time to even think that he not only make his return 9 years later, The fact he is happy to be there and on top of that he is going to have one of the greatest fued of the modern era possibly even one of the greatest rivarly of all time with seth is genuinely unbelievable. This the embodiment of the quote "never say never"
Well there’s kinda an asterisk on that considering we don’t know the severity of Seth’s injury. Hopefully it isn’t that bad

Since Maven has covered that infamous podcast, I would love to hear reactions to other shoot interviews as well.
Not a bad idea….. might have to look into that. thank you
Please show up in the royal rumble next week! I’ll be in Tampa live and would instantly mark out.
Highly recommend people listen to that full interview on here. Punk hasn't helped himself at times fair enough but easy to portray him as someone bitter towards the company when he had very valid reasons to be as frustrated as he did. At the very least it'll give some more perspective and help you understand the situation more. Really interesting too.
He wasn't wrong about that wrestlemania 29 match imo, best of the night by a mile and the last great taker mania match
He also wasn’t wrong about the misdiagnosis of his staph infection, as he would later prove it by winning his Lawsuit against the WWE

This channel has become one of my favorites !
Loving this channel Maven, you seem really sincere and empathetic to your former colleagues … which (going from other wrestling shoots) is very rare in the business. Keep it up mate, following from Australia
Maven, you have wisdom beyond your years. Love your channel. Keep it up!!
Punk is horrible. Wish WWE never signed him. Retire already.
@@Travybear1989 Cry about it.

I really enjoy listening to your perspective specially that you have history with
Keep going
Heck yea generating some heat with Punk before your rumble entry!
I’ve been finding myself refreshing this channel for new videos. You provide an amazing perspective on one of the best eras of wrestling!
We're all gonna ignore his AEW run?
@@kzshrr Yeah because it isn't important to this run nor his history in WWE.
Too be fair, It is not like you have a lot of options if your a wrestler. If you want to make big money saying I will never work again in the WWE is a pretty silly thing to say cause were else are you going to go?.
@exp1236 nah that's bull, without AEW there's no punk back in WWE
@@DookieDodger9953Not true Vince McMahon blocked him coming back it was supposed to happen in 2019. When Fox bought the rights to Smackdown. They were pushing for it and at the time he was willing to listen. Vince stopped it. And
to be clear I'm not dissing AEW everything that happened is done.
Great video, do another about the media scrum and fight, would love to see your thougts about that whole situation
Mavens videos are absolutely great! I stopped watching Wrestling so many years ago, but these videos bring up so many memories.
Great video Maven. Thank you for always telling it like it is.

Mavens YT channel has become popular very quickly I was here from the beginning and now we here!!!

100% truth on needing to make your point without having to demean others.
Branching off into general career advice, I know of certain people that make more than me at my job and you never want to call a boss up and say "hey so and so makes this much more than me, what is up with that?"
Best approach is knowing that there is room to get paid more and stating a case on the value you bring to the job

Maven is what us wrestling fans always needed! The inside scoop and his storytelling is amazing! Love it! Keep it coming Maven!
He love that make up
I really hope they don't put the belt on him...
Thanks Maven! Your videos are the most genuine- as you are, Sir.

@@mec0627 I don't hate punk but he is quite overrated online.
@@kingjohn455 Shawn and Bret weren't small like those guys(They were also both jacked). It almost mostly has to do with the Indie stigma that Punk broke the glass ceiling for.
