The escalation in this video was crazy.
First I thought, "Oh wow, that's a really nice Thunderbird 2 model." Then, saw that you were also assembling a few vehicle pods. Then saw the electronics, then saw the motors, and THEN aaaaallllll the rest of the pod vehicles.
It is crazy-expensive, but that is a highly detailed and engineered model.
I’ve done it. I’ve watched this video at least 10 times over the past month or so when I randomly came across your channel; and I’ve finally spunked out on the kit. Too much nostalgia and the urge to build this to pass onto my kids when they’re old enough is far too great.
Thanks for the awesome content. Lost more hours to watching your builds than I’d like to admit 😬
I've spent the last few days trying to talk myself into not buying it but I think I'll probably get it too. They stopped selling it in Japan a couple of months ago - it's only a matter of time before they disappear everywhere else and the price really goes through the roof.
I have funderbirds toys
Loved watching the original show when I was a kid.
This is 1 of the most magnificent models ive ever seen constructed! I absolutely love it!
as a 50 something Thunderbirds fan I must say great job on the review and the kit itself.I think Derek Meddings would be very happy with your results!
That's really beautiful. Thunderbird 2 was my favorite as a kid and it's nice seeing the weathering attention to detail you've done.
Lovely build of one my very favorite science fiction series craft! The weathering was spot-on. SO GOOD.
Watching this brought back so much nostalgia - it looks so much like a prop from the show
Huge fan of Thunderbirds but I never knew the pods had rear door. Learn something new everyday. Thoroughly enjoyed the video.
Rear pod door only seen once, in episode "Perils of Penelope"
Thank you for this video. I’m not a model builder, but this one is too full of nostalgia for me to ignore, and I grabbed it when it was on a fairly good sale. I appreciate the hints you have put in this build (like scraping off the paint pre-glueing), and look forward to building my own!
DeAgostini is just another word for daylight robbery. The amount of profit they must make on each of these kits must be staggering.
It's even more than you think. Consider the number of people who start the subscription and drop out after the half way mark when they finally realise just how much they've spent and how much more they have to spend!
I looked the TV Show when I was 9 years old. I am 61. Very exciting. Greetings, Jorge
Thanks for the video. I didn't even know the kit was available till I saw your video. Looks like a really great kit and you did a fantastic job building, weathering and explaining how you built it.
Well Done buddy
- George
YES FINALLY GET TO SEE THE MAIN BUILD!
Great weathering effects
That's good value considering the detail and amount of joy in it
Tommy Boy No, no it isn't. I imagine it'd be much more fun and a hell of a lot cheaper to scratch build this with wood or something. Why they chose to have this cost 1000 pounds I will never understand. You could get a bigger 1/200 Aircraft carrier with tons of more detail for half the price
WOW. Just WOW. Amazing 👏👏👏
This is hands down the coolest TB2. Great work, I wish I had the patience to sit down and build one
I wish I had the skill :)
Really good review Owen. Your right, the oil paint weathering takes it from a toy to a scale model. I have enjoyed watching this series of reviews on Thunderbird 2.
Thanks John, I'm very pleased that you've enjoyed the series
John, this was what made the original Thunderbirds series so special. Immediately after building the models, the modellers would start to ding and weather them, to stress that these were _working_ machines, not fresh from the factory.
Simply Amazing!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Beautiful kit.
Now that you have finishe this amazing model i have to continue my f-105g 1:48 model. Continue like this
Looks awesome Owen. Especially with your weathering.
Thank you David! :)
Christ..you must gave the patience of a saint..no way I could build this..!!! You done a fantastic job though..well done..!!!
Nice job. Thanks for the tip of using oil based paint for the weathering. Super cool
£850 for this ! What?
for that price they can make a decent gear drive for the pod lifter
Peter Wragg would have been proud of your dirtying-down technique!
Your skilled weathering makes the model pop.
It looks gr8 when it's finished
that looks amazing !!!!!!
I love thunderbird 2!wow and good job makeing thunderbird 2!
Great Job!!!
I think your paintwork came up brilliant!
5..., 4..., 3..., 2..., 1... Thunderbirds are GO!
AWESOME WORK 👍
looking good hope this is coming back to buy
Grew up watching supermarionation, so it’s awesome!!!!!!! 👍😎😍
Very well produced series on this kit. Look forward to more space/science fantasy models in the future!
Thank you very much!
Felicidades un trabajo espectacular
Beautiful kit, nice build. Wish I was a kid again!
My favorite Thunderbird!
Great job !! Wow !! 👍👍
Excellent presentation, sir. Most instructive.
Great build and awesome paint job! Thank you for sharing. :-)
Fascinating 🛸
Oh, that looks nice, I wonder how much it is
*Sees price and has a stroke, an aneurysm, and a heart attack simultaneously*
how much did it cost?
£849. De Agostini kits are really expensive, the Red Bull F1 car came in at over a grand! Looking at this kit though, it is another level above general air fix type models, is it worth £850 quid? probably not, but it does look really nice.
They could sell this for £350 that would be much better. Great quality too expensive for most (me)
I rather my plastic kit ... 1.000 dollars no thanks :)
And you get 500 copies of a shit magazine to put through the recycling.
They truly are rip off merchants of the highest order
Great build and glad you mentioned the problems with plastic glue or polystyrene cement. That's something I noticed on returning to aircraft kits on retirement. It is not as efficient nowadays in bonding. I think that's a combination of the harder plastics that kits use today to achieve finer details in mouldings and a cement formula with less fumes, presumably like paints, less solvents for environmental reasons. Superglue as you say is good alternative. Traditional clear glues like uhu work but use sparingly as they are very aggressive and any overspill will damage the model surface.
Best meditation video ever.
Great job
That kit looks great 👍 Very nice work
Because I Served for almost 30 Years in Emergency Rescue, My Car earned the Nickname of “Thunderbird 1”, because it always arrives First; whilst My 6’ by 4’ Cage Trailer earned the Nickname of “Thunderbird 2”, because it was “the Heavy Lift Body” and always arrived 2nd, behind “Thunderbird 1” and My 4 Wheeled ‘Electric Mobility Scooter’, earned the Nickname of “Pod 3 - the Quad” (because of its 4 Wheels). Coincidentally, My Car, My Trailer and My Electric Mobility Scooter are all varying Shades of Green.
Unable to get a Thunderbird 3, 4 and 5, huh? Shame! XD
Asa Holmes No Use for 4 because I can not Swim and as for 3 & 5, well there is nothing Out There, is there? Mind you I wouldn’t mind a Mole.
I worked as a paramedic in the NYC FDNY/EMS running the LSU2 on T1 i was THUNDERBIRD2😎 GREAT EXPERIENCE😎🙏🇺🇸
Coincidence? i think not
My first car also served as a carry-all (as have all my subsequent cars) and thus my CB radio handle was Thunderbird 2.
However none of my cars have been green. They've been mostly red and or blue so I figured they were just active camouflaging! LOL
Wow! That is an amazing kit. I was very impressed with the detailing inside the PODS.
It makes sense there is a small office area in each POD where the emergency vehicle
operators probably sat during flight. Was there a WC in that office area as well?
Amazing that it comes with all the emergency vehicles too.
I hope you were able to work out the leg gearing issues. Perhaps you could arrange a
live chat with Brains.
Great video. Love your weathering !
Looks really good. Especially with the weathering
Thank you very much
this is wild i totally forgot about thunderbird. i was obsessed with it when i was little, had all the little thunderbird vehicle toys
I love your build. I grew up with the Thunderbirds on TV. Loved the show. The elevator shafts with that rack and pinion could be torquing as a result of some binding. You want to be sure the racks are properly tensioned so no twist exist. Maybe even some light machine oil too might help. I worked with rack and pinion systems allot from toys to 1/4 million dollar printer and copiers. Yep they use them. So I saw them bind up like on your model too. We used much more larger scale types with DC stepper motors, and also glide shafts along with the rack and pinion.
Overall, really nice work you did on my very favorite Thunderbird. Though I love 1 and 3 also. Please keep building more. I am awful with models but your build was really enjoyable.
Any shortcomings aside, this is a well designed model, elaborate and nice job by you..!
You've more patience than me,
She's a good looking model
Thank you
It's awesome 😊
Jaw dropping on every level, very cool model
Great job, I never knew anything like that was available. It really looks cool.
It's basically the Takara TOMY Thunderbird 2 released in Japan in the early 2000's. Same exact toy, same electronics, same everything, only difference is that the original retailed for 100 USD while this retailed for over 1000 USD.
If you really want one of these, get the Takara one off Ebay, their a bit expensive nowadays, but way better than this DeAgostini one. Afraid to say that those who bought this version got scammed big time.
Wow, you're dedication to detail, determination and skills are all amazing. Brilliant, your a very talented man. Well done. Kind regards, Melvin Jarvis
BRAVO!
Amazing
Very good job
Great Work !! would love this model :)
Nice build and review. Loved the oil work, i really must try this more.
Thanks! and yeah I'd definitely recommend giving oils a try
Thunderbird 2 was always my favorite. The Dinky metal cast model was a well used toy
Wow- nicely done. The weathering looks beautiful. Nice job. Looks to be very expensive with all of the vehicles included. Will have to look for one to see if it’s in my budget threshold. 🌞
Does anybody else watch these in the night time? Do you know what I mean?
Such soft hands
Thumbs up if you get me!
I'm glad they chose to make the original design for tb2 its way better than the new one
Nice model
The sound effects xD But hey it still came out great Owen. The way you weather this made the kit looks less like a toy. Definitely something unique in your collection. I’m still excited to see you build your Bismarck
Thank you I'm glad you like how it turned out :)

Great model, model, and video clip. You explained things really well, including the recommendations. I think for the intended market it would be worth the money, as you would only ever buy one, like it's a long term purchase and build experience choice. It also I would assume has certain options for more advanced modellers for customisation, such as more painting/weathering of the smaller parts, like the Missile Launchers, plus changing the engine noise, etc. Also, like many no doubt I didn't know the Pod's had two doors/ramps, since only the front one was ever shown in the TV show, but it still may have existed on the model concept drawing. Great work, kind regards.
smoking a big fat joint watching someone build a spaceship what can you ask for more
Its an iconic piece our Thunderbird 2 …. Ahhhhhh
This model was indeed very expensive as it was a Diagostini project.
However, this became a popular project in Japan, so an expansion was made to build another POD and launch pad.
This eventually led to the publication of ``The Architecture of Tracy Island.''
Great watching you build it..You have nice hands and fingers..
I've been subscribed to you for a fair few years now and I really, really love your videos - They're cleanly put together, the videography is excellent and despite education and all that, you're still trucking along - Keep going Owen!
Thank you very much, that really means a lot to me 😃
Owen you’re my hero xoxox
Brilliant...
Me watching the video: Something to do here
Also me watching the price: Nothing to do here
Great video and great build. So sorry the the legs were such a pain. I enjoyed the whole video though. Very cool. Keep up the great work. I learned quit a lot from it. Thanks.
1 word brilliantly built the interior detail is stunning.
I've just ordered the new 1/350 scale kit but I know it will fade into insignificance compared to your model.
Thank you
I was mad into Thunderbirds when they first came out (I'm now 59, going on 6) and had the Rosenthal's, which I've re-collected since my Mum bought me some of the Carlton stuff in the 90's. I agree with you-this is a very expensive kit, but I'm trying to get it in separate parts (it can come in ten sections, am I right?) I've also seen several reviews about the hydraulic legs going west, but all-in-all, I think you did a fantastic job, and I had a big smile on my face as you neared the end of the construction, and TB2 took shape. Great job, Owen, and thanks for the video. FAB!
Superbe superbe 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I need to get this one! Had all the original kits in smaller scale than that. I think they were IRC, or Testors models back in the 60s
Thunderbird 2 was my favorite as a kid in 1965.
So it's not just me that has the issue with the extending legs then? Good to know! Great work with the weathering. Haven't done any yet as the leg problem has annoyed me, not to mention that it no longer appears on their website and the instructions that I had downloaded are on a laptop that has died on me so now I am searching for a copy of them. Oh... and thanks to your link, I have just found them! Wahey!!!!
Damn, i am impressed. I remember going through model magazines in the 1980's and seeing the old Japanese Thunderbirds kits and of course Thunderbird 2 was usually front and centre. With the most scale model versions available. Well done and cheers for going to the extra depths of making yours all detailed and painted out and so fourth!
As a kid watching the show in the late 60s US syndication, this was my favorite ship.
Cool vid
I would have killed to have had a kit like this when I was a teenager in the 1970s.
Fantastic detail, excellent video. However, at that price, hubby won't be getting one for Christmas.
amazing vid Owen!
Thank you Will
Nice set of videos and review. I think that you are on point, for the price of the hole model kit it should work flawlessly and those screws should be hiden.
:)
A great build Owen, love the kit and the weathering was beautifully done...But £849? Ridiculous!
I so want this now
It mind blowing how the make alof these parts that come togheter as one
Wow, talk about a blast from the past. I remember watching the shows on TV. One of the best series that used marionettes and models to create awesome visuals for the time. Doubt the movie Team America paid homage that that series in the behind the scenes trivias.
The price is obscene but as fans, we should be glad that this model even exists. As a kid, there were models I could never afford but I might get one for Christmas. It's funny that today, even though most of us could afford this, we just won't be buying it. The payments were a good way around the main problem, but no. (For perspective, I'm 57). Great video as ever, thank you!
