This is an excerpt from the Eye of Vichy, A movie from Claude Chabrol, which offers us a detailed view of Vichy regime propaganda. Mickey & Friends Bombing France.
I realize that things get exaggerated and distorted in war, but it's sad to see it go this far. They completely missed the fact that Popeye did most of his fighting in the Pacific Theater!
Yeah! And so did Donald. He didn't even serve in the USAAC. He was the Average Joe GI with M1Garand slung on his soulder. Terrible historical distortion.
the reason for this is because the propaganda cartoons of popeye during world war II were exclusive to the united states, and were never released nationally
In all 1,570 French cities and towns were bombed by Anglo-American forces between June 1940 and May 1945. The total number of civilians killed was 68,778 men, women and children (including the 2,700 civilians killed in Royan). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombing_of_France_during_World_War_II
@Meinaufeldt I'm french. There were 5,000 deads in Le Havre. But what about deads and wounded of the D-Day ? Did you ever read about Omaha Beach and its 5,000 to 50,000 casualties in few hours ? And what about 9,000 killed, 47,500 wounded and 23,000 missing during the Battle of the Bulge ? I'm not sorry, I'm grateful. And as my grand-parents never forget the joy to see american privates arriving in their little town in north of France, I won't forget.
Mu grandfather, a German by ethnicity but American by citizenship, was a Sargeant at that time in Northern France, then Belgium, Holland and Eastward, liberating little towns, giving chocolate and bread to people along the way. He never spoke of killing anyone, although he was definitely on the front lines for the entire march.
The gentleman getting bombed is Professor Nimbus who was a French comics (and probably cartoon?) character. comicvine.gamespot.com/professeur-nimbus/4005-74751/
Esto es más perturbador y mejor hecho que esa cagada deforme de Sucidemouse. Me pregunto como es que esto pudo mantenerse intacto si Disney es bien intolerante con que usen a sus personajes sin permiso
i didn't realize these cartoon characters were so evil, and to think, after the war, they just got away w/ it all scot-free pretending like it never happened or that they weren't involved, sort of like the entire german population...
The Vichy were collaborators. Their installations were legitimate targets. The German facilities in occupied France were, too. You can't make an omelet without cracking a few eggs. The French are all about cooking, you think they'd understand.
As said in the title; this is " *Vichy* propaganda." While there was some early war intra allies skullduggery (Britain bombing the Free French Fleet preemptivily to avoid letting it get captured) Most French people were against the Vichy & nazi government. The ISSUE is that under the Vichy government; everything was officially controlled by the state; which meant the only media allowed were ones that supported Vichy and the Nazis. In other words, most French did not agree with this cartoon message, but cartoons like this were the only ones allowed in theaters until the allies kicked the occupation out.
Honestly, the average French was indifferent to either the Allies or the Germans. The reason the French put up very little resistances to the Nazis is because the majority of people actually saw the Germans as better then what they had. It took the Nazi 2 weeks to take France, it took the allies 2 years to France back. So, it would seem the French put more resistance to the allies then the Germans. Only the lies of the winners if WW2 make it seem the French were really pro-Allied.
You're not french, how could you say that ?! Do you think those who defended occupied France against the allies were speaking french ? My grandad died in WW2 as a free french soldiers, and he deserve more respect than that
If you´d were receiving these bombs, at that time, you'd obviously see things very differently. War has left many casualties and destructions in France. This silly film, at that time, has certainly met a lot of support from French civilians who paid cash the price of their liberation. It's a very serious matter, laughing or teasing is not appropriate.
We french we will never so grateful toward americans, british, canadians, russians, and all partisans from all countries who fight with proud and courage for freedom and civilisation against barbary and slavery from the nazi ideology. I 've just finished a book about the white rose and Sofie SCHOLL DIE DEUTSCH WIEDERSTAND. Thank you, your sacrifice are in our hearth. Vive la liberte.
@Meinaufeldt: The definition of a half truth is a whole lie. It is certainly true that much bombing occurred in France. Mostly this was concentrated in the corridor between Germany & Normandy. Focusing on trains & other roads which could be used to transport troops to the landing sites. This certainly did include the bombing of many towns along the route. Which could be used for refueling & such along those routes. It is called strategy & tactics. You could stand to learn a little on it.
@sjokolade777 je vois vraiment pas le rapport avec les synagogues et les mosquées. Quant aux résistants, je ne pense pas qu'il faille rire de leur engagement, sans compter que pour la plupart ils n'étaient pas américanophiles.
If a country lost almost an entire generation few decade ago, you would understand, i think than they wouldn t be prone to let the same war, against the same enemy, happen another time

@Meinaufeldt Oui, c'est vrai. More French civilians died by Allied terror bombing against Paris, Rouen, Nantes, Nancy, Metz, Rennes, Caën, Calais, Marseille, Bordeaux than by Nazi reprisals against French résistance. The Vichy French government also recognized this. More French civilians were killed by Anglo-American bombers than during the WW2 front service, or in De Gaulle's units or from June 6, 1944 until August 31, 1944 in regular land war. For many, Libération meant Death.
@mancubus47 Ca s'appelle la guerre. Oui, c'est très triste, tu remercieras l'armée allemande d'avoir voulu résister en Normandie plutôt qu'en Ile-de-France ou en Bourgogne.
Tres Bien! It was wrong to attack French civilians since they were not the enemy and this American, at least, is sorry for that. In any case, I think Sarkozy's wife is really hot! Much better than Michelle Obama and her manly arms. Vive le France!

yes that's right. Poland has been the most heavy percentage of human loss in WWII, proportionally. But not in destruction, because Germans did'nt implement massive area bombings allied air forces deployed over German densely residential areas during the last months of 1945. More than 100 cities have been set on fire in which more than 700 000 civilians died burnt alive. That's crime against humanity if you lose the war, good job if you win. My advice : don't lose wars.

Sadly, this is what happened when they bombed Normandy. The bombs completely missed their targets.
