Jeannin was supposedly threatened to get him to turn in this film on time, but he went out of his way to offer his animation services to the regime multiple times before that, and he wrote for pro-German newspapers at the same time. It seems pretty clear that Jeannin supported these views and only disowned this film later on because the Nazis lost. The story of some poor animator making this with a gun to his head doesn't add up.
Donald was the leader, lol. Popeye was getting drunk on the mission too. And Felix was looking scared. BTW, this is on a 1980s French post war film called Eye Of Vichy that is Vichy newsreels, excellent to watch! Oh, I almost forgot, the person that made this cartoon was executed after the war for making it!

Certainly not. They had several like these before cinema viewings much like the Americans and British. But they were all likely destroyed before the end of the war. This is only surviving because it is French. And was probably taken by Allied soldiers during Liberation.

There was another documentary I saw done by the French in the 70's with many interviews from occupation survivor's, one lady liked all the "handsome" German soldiers during the occupation, I don't think she was the exception either. The Allies had to walk a tightrope with the bombing on French soil, worried about more French collaboration then was already happening. Thankfully the Nazi's were the more evil to the French eyes.
I'm a voice actress and I can do a part French Micky mouse. As well popeye the sailor in English. The nazis didn't even try with this.. Donald sounds off and I could do different voices if I need to. Also the animation is trash and very campy and skips as well repeats.

This cartoon is the worst I have ever seen. Just utterly atrocious in intent and execution, right down to the very lazy cel overlays you see with the planes and the angel of death at the end. The humor doesn't land, the imitations aren't even done well (Mickey is ferociously off-model, Donald is very out of character, why would Popeye bomb people instead of punching them?), and the final point is so ineffective as to be laughable. Just awful.
