*Include a lot of random singing and Mario impressions. - Ігри
I had a discussion with David about the Commander X16 at PRGE back in 2018 I think. My opinion was an FPGA was required and it wouldn't be remotely as cheap as $50. I'm fine with being wrong but what really grinds my gears is when I give good advice and it's ignored, as the CX16 now has - shocking! - an FPGA and will probably cost hundreds.
I like you guys both. Please don't fight.
@@ognyanbelchev4190 It's not a fight. Just giving my reasons for throwing jabs.
David is a software guy. Be patient with them. Easier to make friends and maintain our cover that way. 🥂
@@BenHeckHacks Now I get it! I'll remove my comments about not getting it now.
I love your work but you can be a total ego dick even if you maybe aren't realizing it. Work on them social skills G
"paper clip in a power supply moment" lol i love the stupid lore that shows up as canon in this show
I like the 8-bit guy. But there is a reason the phrase "knows enough to be dangerous" exists.
Ben is the eccentric uncle that we all look forward to hanging out with in the garage at family gatherings while he does cool stuff.
I'm like Rich Sanchez just more drunk.
what I would like to see is a giant LCD billboard that doesn't have a polarizer that says "I like your sunglasses"
"I'm the 8-bit guy and I've got 10 electric cars" LOL!
Shots fired!!
Haha I lost it laughing
And I like retro brighting everything!!
actually 4 and he built the first one himself 😂
The paper clip comment got me! 🤣
Poor 8-Bit Guy. Getting shat on by Ben Heck himself
Ya that sounded Kinda dickish, but then also sounded just like David lol. He does love his retrobrighting.
Nerd on Nerd hate, when will it end?
Great 8-Bit guy impression lol. His and Voultars retrobriting tips saved my PCE and JP Sega Saturns refurbs haha...
He can sing, he can repair, he can clean, he can explain, he can scifi life like if it was normal, he can reuse packaging, Ben Heck. 🐱👤
There is a certain charm to the narration being done while Ben is eating
Mario is the ultimate handyman.. he also does plumbing, emergency rescues and even practices medicine!
Considering his pill usage, I'd expect that everything else chronologically came _after_ the medical license suspension.
I always thought there was something about his erratic driving now it all makes sense
A little of everything but nothing well.
"ahee hee i have 10 electric cars" -the 7bit guy
Watching and listening to you get all excited over the image polarizers is absolutely infectious, and I absolutely LOVE it. Coincidentally, my cat Turbo has the zooms right now, too. It's approximately 6:15am...
I'm here for the electronics and the regrettable acting.
Restoring that plastic it looks like Ben inadvertently created Nuka Cola Quantum
I love the impersonations you do of everyone. This is the only retro gaming channel that's actually funny.
Haha I always thought the 8-bit guy sounded like The Simpson's comic book guy. "Best episode ever"
The glee in Ben's voice when he said "It's a screwdriver!" had me laughing my ass off.
Startup song sounds like “another one bites the dust”
Edit: ha! Never mind that’s what Ben says!
In the game boy advanced game game and watch gallery 4 the graphics are different and there is no startup sound
Considering how every wrong move in this game kills him, the song seems oddly appropriate
Hahahahha, I was thinking about the 8-bit guy when you were sticking that polarizer. Good thing you remembered
Seeing the Canadian Tire logo when he opens the box. Then remembering Ben throwing shade at the great white north in the gamegear mod video. Here we go again
No one is safe from my shade!
I had the opposite problem getting frustrated why my phone screen was showing nothing...through my polarised sunglasses...
Not gonna lie, "Mario's Cement Factory" sounds like one of those fan games that are really messed up.
Oh man. I had one of these as a kid in the 80's. That theme song starting up just brought me back. Thanks!
Love a new episode, this is a great piece of history.
"Kitten, get a hobby!"
"This is my hobby!"
Thank you SO MUCH for this video. My wife gifted me with this tabletop for Christmas and the images were monochrome over a colored background. This video helped me correct the issue and now it plays in color once again. Someone had installed the polarizer in the wrong direction. Again, thank you!
He made 8 bit guy sound so derpy
David is pretty derpy if we're completely honest. I like the guy, but he's very much a bull in a china shop when it comes to vintage hardware.
@@bruwinHe is..but I still watch his channel. Saw him let the smoke out with the paper clip in the rare IBM.
I love these old LCD/VFD games and thankfully still have a few from when I was a kid (and the boxes). Astro Wars, Firefox F7, Puck Monster, Scramble etc. and a couple of the 3D Tomytronic games.
Hi I’m the 8 bit guy - today, we cover the game I designed for the shed I built in my Tesla.
HAHAHAHAHA God Damn whyd i just piss myself at that????
After the day I've had I needed this episode
Oh boy that brought back memories, I used to have one of those as a kid. As soon as that tune started up it all flashed back into my head! lol
Top shelf ramblings this time around, Ben! 👏👏👏
“I wanna live in a world with
Star Wars againnnnnnn!” - Ben
that is one of the best Connery impressions i have ever heard
This is the game that shows everyone the "pie factory" in Donkey Kong is actually a Cement Factory! Awesome!
"Ate some things that aren't legal in all states" I knew it...
Best video about Mario mini arcades
being fixed by a karaoke singer I've ever watched
*Why don't you tell us how you really feel about 8-bit Guy*
14:50 his voice impressions are spot on.
And yeah I’ve seen the young Indy chronicles it’s actually very historical and (gasp) educational.
Nice restore! As usual, really enjoyed this.
10:30 This is Nintendo in a nutshell. Cheap as chips, but skillfully applied technique makes it worth something.
You ARE the Kitten's hobby.
Watching this really makes me want to see a project with a custom LCD display, such fun old tech
Next on ben heck hacks, how to change out the clock on the wash and cure to support 36 hour cycles
The 8bit guy bit was super funny. I'm pretty sure a lot of the people that got upset about the paperclip have all had their own "8bit guy moment". I know I have.
We've all let the magic smoke out at least once
Oh my God that 8bit guy roast is giving me life
He was also roasting the people that complained about it.
That guy is such a hack fraud! Can't stand him
We're all hack frauds. I think all amateur preservationists learned a lesson from that incident, and I think he did too. Now make fun of him gently but let him make his videos in peace!
@@voodooroller His videos are low effort and he is a overall cringe lord.. Btw... lol at your last name
Your Sean Connery is immaculate!
Love it. Commentary is always the best part.
I always assumed bens glasses were what he used to see into the future. Now the magic is all lost.
Add the 8 bit guy to the techvelling willburies!
I've found that most LCDs are polarized at 45 degrees like this one is. My guess is this is so the display is still readable through sunglasses even if mounted in another orientation.
We're polarized glasses a thing in 1983?
@@mopenstein It looks like they were introduced in 1936 by Polaroid. Before their cameras Polaroid made polarizing sheets (hence their name).
Loved seing what was inside dat bit of electronic games history!
Never stop singing.
you are roasting the shit out of the 8-bit guy rn lol, are you gonna get a commander 16?
ChickenLips 16!
Odd tinkering is the UA-cam guy that fixes old toys and electronics
I thought he was referencing "Rescue & Restore".
@@JekyllJones he could have been, I have never watched that channel though
Lmfao, Luigi getting Mario a job legit made my face hurt
Seeing this always reminds me as kid in the 90s playing Tiger Electronic games and those hose fun to drive games that look like car dashboard.
Not only an educational vintage electronic game repair, it's an Indiana Jones revue!
Come for the repair, stay for the old man stories
Decent impressions got me lmaoing
Mario's Cement Factory was actually the first and only Game and Watch that I owned. I still have it and it still works perfectly.
damnit I could have won Ben Heck Bingo if he'd have simply used Funky Foam under that battery door instead of getting all 3D fancy. DAMN YOU, HECKENDORN!!!
I had one of those as a kid. The 'start' music is different than I remember it, I wonder if there was a firmware change.
My 8yo self discovered you could bounce the battery/power a few times and it would enter a diagnostic mode, play all the 100 pt tunes and show all the LCD cells.
If you set the clock and alarm, a guy comes out of the passenger side of the right truck and rings a bell when the alarm goes off.
The original battery cover slid in and locked into position.
Thanks for showing this, I remember playing with this toy a lot growing up.
Ah, mine sounded more like this one: ua-cam.com/video/fZyU7P9LVoc/v-deo.html
This was really cool. I'd never even heard of this game before but I now wish I owned this.
Also, I figured at the beginning, Cement city was referencing the lab in the basement. Perhaps the lab should be called Cementwerks
This is a pretty advanced, to a point it actually looks like a game. Maybe because it has a lot more states than the one I had as a kid.
2:00 the imitation is just hilarious.
1:58 (EDIT: 22:47 also) -- nice 8-bit guy jabs there lololol
That packing job was very thorough!
the 8-bit-guy dig nearly killed me...lamo
Considering how lethal Mario's job there is maybe some union-enforced OSHA compliance is what it actually needs.
I have one of these too. Great trip down memory lane
That was a great video, my mind was kindof bent 45° with the polarizing filters there, but with all the Mario impressions and the successful retro-brighting of the plastic I think it's a win! (not a fail, (c) Dave Jones)
I have a rarity I would love to get working again, a Sega CDX. I already troubleshooted it to the BIOS on IC 11, it would keep freezing on the Sega CD logo for the disc functions, the CD player function works perfectly, so do cartridges, so right now I tracked it back to the mainboard BIOS which had no problems. I tried reflowing the BIOS chip. Light touch to each pad, and noticed one of the pads literally slid out from the leg, #13. So I need assistance rebuilding the trace through the via, which is really easy to find. Seems like an intermittent error, because the moment that happened, nothing else works.
Wow the dig at 8-Bit Guy nearly killed me!
The camera angle makes me feel like I'm watching upside down.
It is a Game and Watch, they called it the Game and Watch Tabletop line. Check the logo near the joystick. They also sold one of their models to Coleco who recolored it and released DK Jr. It's a fascinating line!
By the way, it's super awesome you recreated the polarizing sheets. I can see people replicating what you've done to fix models they thought were unfixable
I lost it at the 8-bit Guy impersonation. Great stuff!
Damn Ben, throwing shade at 8bit guy right out the gate!
I know right!
I never knew you could turn the polarization layer of a monitor and get the inverse. That's cool!
I used to do that with my calculator, dark background light numbers.
You can also take the polarization layer out of a regular monitor and it looks blank. Make some cheap glasses from polarized film and you are the only one who can see whats displayed on the monitor.
I find Ben's rambling so therapeutic.
For some reason it reminds me of student days drunkenly catching the last bus home after a night out to find the resident lunatic quietly raving on the top deck... happily minus the smell and puddle of urine - the lunatic not me!
Sometimes puddles of urine are still involved.
Poor Ben's arms never stood a chance against buddy's claws
That feeling when I got that spooky pinball tidbit entirely because I had heard about their Total Nuclear Annihilation, through which mostly about the company itself and less than month ago. If that R&M Pinball fact is true it is very cool for sure.
Yeah originally I thought they were just adding the Goodbye Moonmen song, they were waiting for Jermaine's 1099 from his agent haha. But guess they got more!
you‘re videos are so entertaining 🤣 best wishes from bavaria 😊
Lol, love how it boots up with the start of Another One Bites the Dust.
the mario needing a job bit was class!
Love seeing the Canadian tire tape.
to be honest (tbh), Ben you makes me smile with your entertaiment skills. I really appreciate it. Looking forward to your next Projects. i like this format better then the Element14 Days
"Really crude quality..." "impersenation back and forth with yourself?" "...print..." "ah yes that too I guess.
Also coolest still open fan of R&M in 2021
Dang this guys cool I wish I could learn more about vintage tech repairs I can't even fix a vcr
Come for the content, stay for the 🎵
Loved the Mario got a job story sooo much
Fun fact: Nintendo still holds a patent on that screen design to implement color on an LCD.
When I was a kid, I didn't like the Game & Watch style LCD games but now that I'm older, I get them better. They are essentially juggling/timing games. I've found Nintendo's to be the better designed games of all of them. The other companies tended to lack a certain craft to their design.
Yup. Get The Knack is a gem of an album.
Okay now it's time for 8-Bit to throw it back.
That's a pretty cool little vintage Nintendo thing
AFAIK the polarizers DO work backwards but, since they are 45 degrees, flipping actually rotates the polarizer 90 degrees. You would need to cut them rotated, preferably after sticking to the backing plastic.
Your videos are great Ben Heck I been following for almost 20 years I guess
Omg my childhood. Love the crappy tire stickers. I think mine came from Consumers Distributing. What a trip!
They originally adapting this games plot for the second Super Mario Bros. movie.
Following the critical drubbing they got on the first film they eventually retooled the script as Locke starring Tom Hardy as Luigi and Andrew Scott as Mario.
Didn't expect to see you comment here.... and lol.
Would you mind posting the STL file for the battery door to 3D print? Thanks!
I could use a new door. 😊
