Thanks so much for the effort put into these!! I love all these videos, when you wrap it up a fun bonus look at Nintendo Mini Classics keychains would be awesome cause I just discovered them, keep up the great work!
Not to mention the Donkey Kong Panorama is a prequel to the arcade!!! Donkey Kong steals Pauline at the construction site after he's fed up with entertaining Mario. Would love for you to upload all the art from these videos to your Twitter or something too it's great
Interestingly, Nintendo mixed up the model numbers on Donkey Kong Circus and Mickey Mouse. Donkey Kong has the number MK-96 and Mickey Mouse has the number DC-95.
This is so high-effort. There's so little content on panorama/tabletop game and watch. AND you' went into how it works, how they made the color. I haven't seen anyone else do that. Wish your channel had more attention, you deserve it.

@@JComX huh, I never knew that till now. Speaking of jungle elements and I guess burning fire (Cuz there was plenty of that in the game and war) What made you place DK circus at the near end of the Classic DK timeline? Rather than the first like some people have in the past.
@@internetpawn3542 I saw that other people put it earlier, and that would make sense too, but I guess I was thinking about it from the perspective of when the games were made. Since DK circus came out after the others, I saw it as Mario and DK reuniting, rather than it taking place around original Donkey Kong. With these early Mario games it feels like he's jumping around from job to job a lot, so it makes sense that he might find DK again and try a circus thing later on. But I think it's totally valid for it to take place earlier.

Your videos are absolutely fantastic!! I can't believe you don't have more subscribers!! I love the Game & Watch, and this series is so fun and informative!
So I've always had this weird fascination with Popeye's influence on Nintendo/video games in general, and this video helped remind me that...yeah, the Tabletop/Panorama G&W version is still the best video game adaptation of Popeye ever. Which is...insane? The guy's had a Nintendo-developed arcade game, three Gameboy games, a _Switch_ game, and even a beach volleyball spin-off for the Game Gear. And literally the _only one_ where you fight a big dude to save Olive Oyl and get stronger via spinach is in an LCD game that's nearly 40 years old. I know Popeye isn't exactly the superstar he once was, but damn, it's like nobody even bothered to try. Fight bad guy, eat power up, get stronger, save wife, make it sailor themed. It ain't exactly rocket science, right? (By the way, another impeccable video, man. Been enjoying the hell out of this series, keep it up!)
Thank you so much! I'm glad you like the video. I remember when I saw the first Popeye game I was also fascinated by the inclusion, as well as the whole story about Donkey Kong being planned as a Popeye game. I went researching about Japan's relationship to Popeye, like was he a big deal, or was it just a thing to appeal to the U.S. or something. But no, Japan apparently loved Popeye, he was popular there too! I thought that was great, cuz I grew up loving the cartoons!
The color really was a fun change of pace from the standard G&W JComx we're used to seeing. And, as usual, killed it on another vid! The war segment was hilarious especially, but the whole thing was the crux between informative and entertaining. Well done!
The color in tabletop and panorama games were beautifyl. They look like tiny playable cartoons. I agree that Snoopy isn't that much fun. In fact it's one of the few Game & Watch games I don't find fun to play. Mario Bombs Away is great fun!
Yeah, it's a shame, cuz I like Snoopy and the art is great, but it's just a bit of a snooze. Mario's Bombs Away is more fun than any of the others imo. More fun than it has any right to be. That's kind of how I feel about Fire Attack too. Fun and unique game play, but with a shitty coat of paint. :P
imagine if in mario 2, the first time you pull up a bomb, mario has ptsd and the level turns into a jungle, with shy guys in Vietnamese military uniforms and bush-wearing sniffit versions of the flower shy guys from yoshi's island.
What a legendary series. I know they didn't sell well, but it's all about the impression. Tabletop arcade cabinets are so underrated, y'know? And the work with that LCD is very innovative. I've always deeply respected Nintendo's design philosophy. Do what you can with what you've got, and make it something new. The Panorama series also seems very neat. Do they fold up in any way? They look like they do. Also, I think your timeline for Mario is a bit off, so here's mine: I assume that Mario Bros. occurs in the year it came out, 1983. The Vietnam War had direct American involvement from 1965 to 1975. I assume Mario is American, since neither Japan nor Italy fought in the Vietnam War. Therefore: Mario is the son of Italian immigrants who came over to the USA from Italy after the Second World War. He grows to be just old enough to be caught by the draft for the war after he's done with school (I guess this would make Mario a Baby Boomer), and he fights in Vietnam. After the war, he comes home and has loads of trouble, as many Vietnam veterans did and do. He tries his best to work, but can only end up doing odd jobs every so often. These are the other Game & Watch games. And then he finds Donkey Kong after Kong tries to kidnap Pauline. After Mario defeats Kong, he begs for mercy and shows that he's just a funny monkey by juggling; this is the Donkey Kong panorama. Look at Mario's face, he's clearly surprised that Donkey Kong is doing that. He's not making him or coercing him. He takes him and trains him for entertainment and fun. Puts him on display at a circus. But Donkey Kong escapes and runs off to have his Donkey Kong games, so Mario and Luigi become plumbers in the original Mario Bros., fall into a warp pipe, end up in the Mushroom Kingdom, and there we are, Mario's early days set. Donkey Kong actually faced Stanley the Bugman first, I'd say; that was while Mario was away at war or working odd jobs. Then all the Donkey Kong games occur more or less in the obvious order. But that's just what seems to be for me. I don't know one way or another. I don't imagine Miyamoto does, either.
I agree! I think R&D1 was so clever in the way they were able to circumvent the limitations of technology to make cool, but cost-effective games! I think that timeline works well too! Lol I just have fun with this earlier timeline, but in reality it's hard to have a definitive canon for it, cuz Nintendo themselves don't recognize half of the G&W games as canon anyway. And I doubt Miyamoto would even consider the G&W games, since he didn't work on them, it was Gunpei Yokoi and the others at R&D1, and it seems like they were just throwing Mario in games that would have normally just had the generic Mr. Game & Watch characters in them otherwise.
You know, the footage of the revered polarizer is pretty rare to see. So the fact that you’re showing it is actually really freaking cool. (Makes me wonder what other games would look like with the polarizer reversed) It also inspired me to take a screen shot of the little G&W walking around on screen to make me a pride month pfp
Actually the cut scene in donkey Kong jr. between level 2 and 3 does show jr. Going after Mario via an umbrella and they do play “can can” in the background, so the music makes sense.😅
Ok, I have a theory on Donkey Kong Circus. It takes place before Donkey Kong. Think about it. Donkey Kong is mistreated at the hands of Mario, which causes him to break free and kidnap Pauline as revenge. And if you're wondering what Mario's doing in a circus, he might actually be a performer, as evidenced in Donkey Kong 94, where if you stay on the title screen for a bit, Mario is shown to perform a little acrobatics show for an audience. It'd make perfect sense for Mario to be a performer, due to him working many jobs, especially in these game and watch titles. It's a bit of a farfetched theory, but it's what I stick with in my headcanon. Soooo yeah.
I think it makes a lot of sense. I mean, why would Mario have a pet monkey in the first place. I was mostly joking with my version of the timeline. XD I was trying to keep it in chronological order of release, but honestly, it makes more sense that it would just take place before the Donkey Kong arcade game.
I have a little arcade cabinet Game & Watch of Donkey Kong Junior. It's basically the same as the one covered here, but it's orange (like Mario's Cement Factory) with white controls and has Coleco branding. But it's shaped like the Nintendo hardware, not the previous Coleco ones. I guess Nintendo still had a deal with them as they transitioned to making their own?
