My dad used to make covers of songs back in the 90s. I wanted to get it on vinyl and I wanted to ask if you have any tips on websites where you can design an lp and get it to your door in europe.
When i first started buying records in the 1960's, the emphasis was on looking after your records, rather than cleaning them. I new from the beginning what not to do with records, to keep them as clean as possible. For the problem of dust there was only a velvet brush, and a cute little product called a "dust bug" which was a swing arm with a roller and brush at the end which tracked the record when mounted on the opposite side of the turntable. It was not until the 1980's, when i read an article called "How i clean a record" that i found out there was much more to do than simply using a brush. By purchasing the required equipment and various cleaning fluids, and following the process from start to finish, the result was like hearing my records for the first time. I am not joking,
The way I clean vinyl is a little bit different. I don't do anything on the turntable. I have a static free mat I put my records on and I have a dry brush to get the dust off first. Then go back with another brush and the solution on there. You can press harder when it's not on the turntable.
My grand parents have few vinyls that were stacked up (horizontaly) for a few years, I don't think they used to take care of them, but earlier this week we got them out when I received my first vinyl player and I was surprised that the sound quality was so good taking in account the fact that they were probably never cleaned up
I found my first ever good record player during Christmas. I was searching through my basement and found grandpa's old audio equipment. The man had a 70s Technics SL-1500 Direct drive. Had to do some cleaning but it works really well.
I wish this video was around when I first started collecting vinyls! Either way, it's good to confirm I've been treating my records right, you never know 😜 Keep up the good work!
@2:40 I respectfully beg ro differ. I don't place my inner-sleeved record back into the jacket because it creates a big "ring" on the jacket's cover. I'd be happy to show anybody examples of what happens to a jacket if the record is stored inside it. Instead, after I've sleeved the LP jacket, I place the sleeved record behind the jacket in its jacket sleeve. No damage to the jacket, and it also gives me easier access the my record. It's also safer than trying to pull a sleeved LP from its jacket when there is a snug fit.
Hello from the England, nice one again it’s good to clean records every time you play them , Wilko face wipes are good on really grimy records. I also clean my MP3 collection regularly by adding 1&0s to files via a Texas calculator (not really)
Very thorough while still simple. Awesome job Jarrett! And literally JUST noticed you hadn't uploaded since Christmas while I was scrolling through my subscriptions, then minutes later you uploaded lol Welcome back! 😊
Very informative video with great tips for beginners. As for the needle cleaning method, I've always preferred the brush myself. It's just much easier and cheaper. Much love from Brazil!
Pretty decent advice, I use a vacuum machine, anti static gun etc. I suggest a good LED light for your turntable (Ikea), you would be very surprised how little those brushes do. I use a bulb blower (Rocket) and a camera lens brush along with the light and get great results. Clean your records off the turntable except final dust removal.
My tip is: Place the vinyl on the platter. Switch the speed to 78rpm and move slowly (patience) the brush from outside to inside only making contact on a small are of the brush. When reach the label clean any visible dust. Turn the brush 180 degrees and repeat. When done with that side, flip the vinyl and do the same on the other side. You will be amaze how much dust/lint it grabs, even from a cleaned record.
I have a lp buddy and 2 cleaning manual no electric and a big on the go lp box and cd my favourite artist is elvis in all of my vinyl and cds 💿 ❤️ and glad to see u back
Great video Jarret! Can’t stress how important it is to keep the stylus clean! I use a VPI 16.5 cleaning machine for initial record cleaning. Everyone has their ways in storing the record outside of the jacket. I’ve been storing inside the jacket 50+years…why would I want to start now? To me, storing the record outside the jacket only invites trouble. You definitely don’t want to cram records onto storage units. They need room to breathe
I just put the vinyl on my TT, I spray a mix of ipa and or water on it and then use my velvet brush to clean it by turning the TT on and moving the brush mid to outer
I am GUTTED :( Some of my(& some expensive) 'Pet Shop Boys' Vinyl collection I have been collecting since 1980's have been ruined(they are Cloudy the Vinyl now) :-/ I had them in my Attic for a few years(stored) & I am guessing that the heat one summer + them being in the think old style PVC covers ruined them :( 39 records were ruined. But luckily 90% of my other records were ok. I got rid of the thick old style PVC sleeves & I am using those thinner ones(hopefully they will be ok) So now my records are out of the Attic I'll be watching them like a hawk :D daily & protecting them with my life(oh & listening to them to) :D Excellent tips video ;)
I have been using your advice from videos and you have been very helpful in my new journey into vinyl I did sign up to vinyl moon. Three albums so far and love the music. Unfortunately have not been overly impressed with the quality of the pressings and one record was slightly lifted in center but getting a weight to compensate
What's the best way to display a coloured vinyl without damaging it and it being convenient? If the jacket can be displayed too that's a bonus! Thanks for all the help past, present and future!
Love your content!!! Song recommendation Cool song: Ghost love score Cool artist: Nightwish The best band EVER!!!! Thanks for all the informative videos 😁
Great info provided, so much appreciated and yes a little work involved to something that brings us so much joy in life without a prescription. Great channel you have, be well.
I just found your channel and absolutely love it. I’ve ran through most of your videos within the past couple weeks! Can we PLEASE get another vinyl questions video 👀👀
Instead of storing the jacket sleeves from the bottom up I go against the slot, so if the records come out on the right side, I put the jacket sleeve on from right to left
Could you make a video recommending some 2023 preamps and the benefits of having a dedicated preamp vs just using a preamp included with your record player? How much better exactly is a dedicated preamp. And then maybe a list of recommendations would be nice. Great video 👍
Hey guys, just started record collecting and got a question: I have a record brush, but no record cleaning solution. How important is that solution? Can I clean it without it? Or should I order some?
Hey man. Awesome video. I just bought the boundless stylus cleaner and the web page redirected me to this video. I wanted to give my input. I use the gel cleaner and yes, man. Don't use them. I had to clean my stylus with alcohol to get rid of the gunk it produced. Also, I see that you have Jose Gonzalez in the background. I have that album as well, and it's fantastic. Subscribed.
You know what would be interesting? Talking about some obscure vinyl record types not formats vinyl types such as a 10 inch 33 1/3 record, or a inbetween point for the known 7 inch record also a 33 1/3 7 inch record with a small spindle, and if you wanted to record your own music on a vinyl you could find a blank Vinyl record along with a specific record cutter to carve a grove in that blank black plate then write the song name and speed of vinyl that had Ben recorded at so if you find other vinyl records that are a bit unusual like me I will like to see a video on them
I got the cork vinyl top and when I took my vinyl off of it there where bits of cork on it. I’m not sure if it’s because it was cheap or because they are all like that but I don’t recommend.
Music is bigger than just formats, but vinyl is as we English say “Smashing “. Please do a video about turntable wall shelves or Exotic turntables or “What is the future of record playing” or DJing or How to drop some heavy bass and crisp tops with the power of the correctly used graphic equaliser
I'm not sure how well it would work on a dust cover but I may try coating and hand buffing it with Johnson wax as wax is a natural dust repellent. I use it on all my furniture and it works a treat.
I love your channel! I just got a vintage Sanyo turntable from my grandpa and bought some new vinyls but this turntable have been sitting in an attic (with the dust cover on) for the last 30 years or so. I was just wondering if playing my new records on this old vintage player could harm them in any way? Cheers!
These videos have really helped me as a new vinyl collector, thank you very much! On a separate note, have you ever listened to R. Stevie Moore's music? It's amazing on vinyl
What about: Onzow dip 1st… immediately Magic Eraser 2nd. Wouldn’t the micro fiber of the eraser pull off most of the tiny residue (if any)? Great channel 🙌
I’ve been collecting vinyl for a few years now and I take care of my records very well and I always clean them every time I play them and the needle I clean it with a brush that has alcohol on it
I have a question to handling the vinyl when pulling it out of the sleeve. I have very small hands and can not do it like people recommend with nocht touching anywhere. Is there any way for tiny hand people to proper get the viyl out of the paper inlet it comes with?
I think the only mistake(sorry not mistake but my opinion)you make is that when you clean, with the anti-static brush, you have to go from the center to the outside of the record . According to the centrifugal force the dust and whatever else is on the record will fly out. Congratulations for the channel bro everything you mention is always correct.
I have a question about 78 records and the specific needle you need to play them. So for 78 RPM records what kind of needle would be the best option for them? And does it matter what kind of record player you have? For example i have a Victrola record player (a newer one not an old gramophone) what would be the recommended option for getting a specific needle for the 78's, also does it matter if the 78 is made out of shellac or vinyl! Because i have a vinyl 78 and i am planning on buying some 78's that are made out of shellac!
My antistatic brush (Dynavox) actually creates a static charge. The felt slipmat always sticks to the record afterwards. So what's the reason to move it outside in instead of inside out?
i just spun some of my dads old records from the 70s and 80s, a good amount of them were left stacked horizontally for over 12 years and they sounded fabulous. not hating, just saying. great video otherwise, thanks! now i know i need a better turntable 😅
I’m new to collecting vinyl. I got some inner and outer sleeves, I was wondering if it’s normal for the inner sleeves to be sticking on the vinyl- I’m just worried it might damage my vinyl. They basically have wrinkles, is that normal?
What do you do with the paper inner sleeve if it has a design on it? Like, can you get the new inner sleeves inside of that, or should you have it separate in the jacket? And are the inner sleeves that are paper on the outside but the softer material on the inside? I'm getting a lot of records with those and am not sure what to do with them
hey i have a question, I only have a record player from my dad (about 40 years old im guesing) and im not sure if I should change the needle. He sadly died a couple years ago so I cant ask him if he changed it or anything.
hey pretty new to this and wasnt sure haven't seen this anywhere and not sure if my counterweight is too heavy because I can smell the vinyl when its playing please don't clown me!!
🎵🌞 THANK YOU FOR WAITING! MORE GOOD STUFF ON THE WAY! 🌞🎵
Yay😊
Just found you and think you’re great!
You should get himiko kikuchi's flying beagle album!
My dad used to make covers of songs back in the 90s. I wanted to get it on vinyl and I wanted to ask if you have any tips on websites where you can design an lp and get it to your door in europe.

Inner sleeves works so well !! good quality!!!
record doctor is nuts. i love this thing. revives any dirty records.
Love the boundless cleaning kit. 0:45 Easy to use and easy to keep them organised in their metal box.
I wish this video was around when I first started collecting vinyls! Either way, it's good to confirm I've been treating my records right, you never know 😜 Keep up the good work!
Same here. Could’ve used some of that tip to clean up my friend’s vinyl collection.
Vinyls???
I have some records from the 40s and 50s from my mother. I love your suggestions and will definitely use them. Thanks!
Hey Jarrett, so glad to see your new video, can't wait for more. You do a terrific job👍
I just got started on record collecting and this video is a huge help!
I'll apply these tips to my This Is Why copy I just pre-ordered. 🔥🔥🔥

im thinking about getting the Fluance RT85 record player and i was wondering if this plays all different sizes of records or standard LPs ?
Is it ok to keep the record directly into the cardboard? Will it get permanently damaged ?

new video let's go
hey pretty new to this and wasnt sure haven't seen this anywhere and not sure if my counterweight is too heavy because I can smell the vinyl when its playing please don't clown me!!
