Low tide Welsh OCTOPUS and another foraged beach feast with Craig Evans

- Опубліковано 10 бер 2018
- A bright Winters day on a beautiful beach on the Gower penisula in South West Wales. A few days earlier the temperature was around -6 to -7 degrees C ,It was 3 degrees C on the day (4 March 2018). Myself and my son Dafydd cook a foraged meal of Native oysters, scallops, cockles other clams, limpets ,dog whelks, winkles and Velvet swimming crabs.I made a sauce at home with white wine, cream and pureed onions. I precooked the noodles. I also roasted sugar kelp until it became crisp and brittle. I foraged wild garlic, wild chives and primrose flowers. I must add that I foraged the Oyster ,Scallop ,Cockles and clams in Pembrokeshire the previous day. I have highlighted the word octopus because I have only ever caught 2 live specimens in all my foraging career. The clip of the octopus was filmed 2 weeks previous to the rest of the film, but at the exact same location. There is no sound on the clip as it was filmed on my faulty mobile phone. You will see that "Llew" appears to try to eat the octopus,he doesn't eat it ,he is just very curious. I accidentally said that the sweet powder on the sugar kelp was "sorbitol" ,It is in fact a very similar natural sugar called "Mannitol"
0:56 “there’s a starfish there look”
Dog: not anymore
The dog just ran off with the starfish 😂
When the apocolypse comes i want him on my team
I can't see an apocalypse in the forecast, lol, regards Craig
you will need me... I grew up on those ways... lol nothing like amazing to it well when I was a kid, made me dream so big I wanted to be away from it. but now? how I wish I can live like that. oh well, may be when I can save enough money and go back home.

Are we not gonna acknowledge how the dog came and are the starfish after he set it down😂😭😭
Fucking everyone in the comments acknowledged it already
you are a man who doesn't mind a little sand in his clam
3 degrees and your walking around in a t-shirt and fishing in freezing water with your bare hands.
Thats passion!
I'm used to it Vir and I can get quite warm by lifting the rocks, regards Craig
your dog loves seafood lol
It appears so Taraz, but "Llew" doesn't eat anything on the beach,he is just curious,he likes to pick things up then puts them down, regards Craig

your knowledge of the fauna off of the coast is amazing.
Excellent educational video.
Foraging seafood from ocean-salt water bodies can truly be a
"Horn of Plenty".
While to a lesser degree Fresh Water bodies also offer excellent such as, Fish,Crayfish,Fresh Water Crab etc as well.
Indentificatiin, discernment and Foraging for seafood is important survival task to know, such skills will give people skills to sustain their lives when necessary.
For many people Seafood is an excellent source of nourishment.
Thank You Sir you sharing your knowledge.
only bad thing is not enough fat aleast from fish and other seafood
@@mrmolasses5366
From what I understand there are some Ocean/Sea animals such as ,Octopus,Lobster,Crabs,Scalopsas well as certain fish; Eels as well etc. Which provide Fat as well as Ocean mammals such as Whales. Otherwise that where Farming , raising Cattle,Pork and Hunting for land animals comes in.
@@MrKaido93 yeah I think eels are fatty

Careful Amsel,I might make a really bad one, regards Craig

I'm hungry now...I have to say i love ur log stove.. ingenious!
I learnt how to make one of them in scouts. U make cuts down the log towards the base, around 5 or 6, and then stuff the center with dry bits of leaves and tinder.
I love how he names all those different types of sea creatures and also adds abit more information about it..with just the sea he can definitely survive 💯
This guy gets me hungry every time I watch one of his videos! 🍗
Since i was a child i love to observe tide pools and the creatures that lies within it.... Wish i had your life! Greetings from Indonesia
