    Craig is my dad. He been doing this his whole life, these are the things my childhood was full of. I have children of my own now who love the beach and now after seeing this video want dadcu (granddad) to take them.

    When i was young I discover a secret spot that had lots of crabs, fish, shrimp and clams. A few months after going there someone purchase the lot and make it into a loading lot for cargo boats and my spot was gone but those memories still live in my mind. I still remember filling 2, 5-gallon buckets of fish, crab, shrimp and clams in less than 1 hour and having a seafood feast for my family later that evening.

    • @gachanicole9929

      Simple all you need to do is bring a saucepan,a box of matches a bowl (to wash the clams) and your done.so first find a good old log,put a put a match on fire,put it on the log put the saucepan on the log fill the bowl with water,wash the clams and pour a bit of water in the stove put the clams in the boiling saucepan cook it for 10-15 minutes.Take them out and eat them on a leaf or just bring your own bowl. Very long reply :D

  • @whoisme678

    Have to ask since the shell fish you picked are bottom feeders what of the stuff they've eaten? What about having a sewage outlet around the coast ? Do any of the shellfish eat in those areas? As a kid I was always told..."DON'T eat the beards of the mussels " ?? Where did that come from ?

    • @alganhar1
      @alganhar1 6 років тому +1

      The 'beards' or Byssal threads are what the mussel uses to anchor itself to the substrate. They are not poisonous or harmful in anyway, but not particularly pleasant to eat. With shop bought mussels the byssal threads will have been mostly removed by the fishmonger or the farmer (most shop bought mussels are farmed these days) so they may not be present.
      As for what they eat, depends, most things you can get rid of simply by soaking the mussels or other shellfish in water for an hour or so before cooking. That will flush out most things. In fact it is advisable to do exactly that with many filter feeders such as clams, as they actually ingest some of the substrate, biting into a moutful of sand is a good way to ruin your clam chowder! If in doubt, soak them.
