Today is the day to make a lei, give a lei & wear a lei! Many great memories, May Day pageants, lei contests, it was a wonderful time in the 60's!
Happy May Day, if we should happen to meet under such circumstances.
i grew up there, and we sang this today , that was in the 60s with me.leis are so nice, especially kukui nut ones.they can last a lifetime that way.
me, too
I also grew up in Hawaii Nei in the 50’s-60’s and remember singing this every year at school and wearing my various leis for the May Day programs 🥰🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
Thats my Grandmother signing she was part of the original group
That is awesome! Which one was your Grandmother. I played this song yesterday on my Hawaiian music radio show, here in Santa Cruz, CA www.ksqd.org "Timeless Hawaiian Music" evey Wednesday from 11:00AM to 1:00PM
My grandmother is Violet 'Aunty Lei' Collins
So you are also related to Aunty Georgiana Clark who lived here in Santa Cruz area and was involved with the Roaring Camp Railroad Park. My wife was a hula sister of hers, with her here in Santa Cruz.
Hawaiian music royalty!
Yes in order of siblings my father Louis Collins was the oldest, then John & Nona, Georgie, Fanny and Ernesta. Only Aunty Ernesta survives as all others have passed. Grandmas side was Haili and Lincoln. Thats one side, my mothers side i am a Wise descendent (John H Wise).
