- "Hawai’i Aloha" features dozens of Hawai‘i’s top artists across many genres, and over 1,000 youth from 10 Hawaiian charter schools in one epic song. Recorded live across 27 locations, this is Hawaiiʻs most widely known song, used to close important gatherings of all sizes. It is a song of unity and Aloha ‘Aina (Aloha for one’s birthplace, land and home).
About this collaboration: Mana Maoli, a Hawaiian nonprofit, teamed up with Playing For Change and 4 Miles as part of their Mana Mele Project, which features a solar mobile studio and a Music & Multimedia Academy. Alongside the youth - on campus, in real-world settings, and in this video, is the "Mana Mele Collective" - over 200 artists, engineers, and filmmakers who donate their time and talents to mentorships, recordings, and concerts in support of these schools. We hope you enjoy watching this collaborative effort as much as we enjoyed creating it!

I spent my high School years in Hawaii and have always loved this song. I now live in South Carolina. Several years ago I was at work-I'm a nurse, and I had an elderly patient who was visiting her family. She was from Hawaii and really didn't have a lot to say. I played this video/song for her and she began to sing. we both had tears streaming down our faces. One of the best moments I have had as a nurse.
A ja pierwszy raz usłyszałam tę piosenkę . 😘
I used to take care of grandmas with Alzheimer's, and as part of the disease, one of them was prone to fits of paranoia, hostility, and fear. She was having one of those fits when I turned on the TV, and at the end of the Japanese lantern ceremony they were playing this song.
It's like a light came on in her face. She KNEW this song, and she started humming, then singing, then got up and started dancing hula. She went from angry, confused and afraid, to excited and young again.
The power of music, especially in elderly patients with dementia, is so beautiful to see. She was able to end that night peacefully, and went to bed contented for the next few hours.
Thank you so much for that testimony!!! Amazing!!!
Thank you so much for sharing your testimony. I'm sure music has healing effects. Especially this song which is close to your grandmother's heart and come to think of it I too get rather emotional over it. Wonderful. MAHALO ;-)

Wow you just described my grandma. She is in a nursing home in Hawaii with Alzheimer's. She is the same way. On her worst days if the radio goes on she just starts singing and singing along with the Hawaiian music.
Diego Gonzalez you have NO idea just how powerful music is.
Anyone born In Hawaii, Hawaiian or Non-Hawaiian will bring tears to one's eyes for the LOVE of our Hawaii Aina & Ohana!

Every time that I go to a Hawaiian function, they always end it with a giant circle holding hands and singing this song, A lot of the Hawaiians with tears in their eyes. In person, it is beautiful.

I love this Song soooo much ♥️🌺🤟🫶🏻. As I Iayed in coma during three weeks, fighting for my life, my husband used to let me hear this song on my headphones. Every time I heard it my body was calming down. I didn’t know the song before but as I woke up, after this long fight, I was able to sing it. 🎶🎵 It was such an amazing feeling. Thank you so much for this wonderful song. It will always be precious to me.
My biggest wish today is to being able to play it on my ukulele. I will give my best. 🎶🎵🌺 I love you Hawaii 🌺🤟
As I sit in a steel mill in Gary, Indiana this song just took me back to Hanauma Bay at 5am on a Sunday morning. I spent my formative years in Hawaii and I fear to be loosing the spirit. Aloha everyone 🤙
Thank God someone is building in defense of this country including Hawaii U.S.A.
Im a truck driver working out of ohio ... this song makes me remember the aina and makes me miss home even more
Try not to lose it, instead be à new growth spreading it.
@@michaelcovan4792 I may be spreading it, hoping it catches on amongst the miserable crabasses around here
@@joshuaericilac homesickness is a dog. Then you have dreams of being home and you wake up and SHIT, I'M NOT THERE!
Thank you for sharing ❤and it was wonderful! Aloha
I playedthis song at my wifes celebration of life biding her farewell. Alk the people attended joined hands and at the end raise their hands biding her farewell. It was so spiritual.
Born and raised in Hawaii. North shore. I remember my mom who grew up in Wailua and Haleiwa playing the ukulele to my brother and me as kids in the living room. She passed away in 2019, is buried in punchbowl with my brother and sister. My other brothers ashes were released in Waimea Bay. I cried listening to this, was very touching.
I was born and raised in Maui and this song means alot to me when I listen to it, I’m not Hawaiian but I’ll always remember my Kumu telling me a story about this song. My school singing it together at may day, never forget the times.
But in present time my heart breaks due to losing the historic town Lahaina because of a brush fire, not only that we have lost many family members and people. I’m disappointed in the tourists for still swimming in the same waters people drowned in trying to escape from the fire, now I will never forget this song as I hear people singing it in sadness because their homes were burned down and families are missing or dead. I want people to know how much this hurts us. Native Hawaiians are dying and many tourists have no sympathy for them, if you’re planning to fly to maui just for a tour please donate your ticket instead, and fly somewhere else.
I'm from the mainland, my late Aunt & Uncle lived in Hawaii, they loved it. I'm so sorry for all the loss of lives& homes, businesses.
The tourist did show such disespect, I'm sorry. God bless and be with you all💔😭🙏❤️
Then you are Hawaiian. Hawaiian here is not a race but a HEART ❤! Hawaiian is heart.
it is both, however, for those who reach it in their heart, that is where they are purest on these islands@@RYDENROAM72
@@RYDENROAM72 Bye no. you wish its by heart but its not if their not kanaka. im hawaiian and thats not true
@@RYDENROAM72And Hawaiian is a race n culture so that was a bit disrespectful to think that.
As a Hawaiian, this makes me proud of my culture
Wished the lyrics are displayed on the screen or in description!!
You absolutely should be proud of such a wonderful culture and people! Wish you all the best and hope to see Hawaii free in my lifetime.
My wife not only sang along with this but she broke down in tears... powerful. We are from Maui born and raised and this hit us hard. Mahalo.
Thanks for the kind words!

This song has been getting Hawaii through the recent disasters. #MauiStrong
I'm a firefighter with HFD, and part of the three dozen men who were sent to aid Maui FD last week. We worked alongside their firefighters, many of whom had lost family, friends, and homes in Lahaina. On the night before we were set to return to Oahu, we all held hands and sang this together-- no instruments, no drums, just our voices filling the fire training center. I've sung this song before, but after that night, it holds much more meaning to me.
more people watching this for maui
I was just saying we need a hanahou for our beloved Maui🙏🏽
While "disasters" in the larger sense of the word, let be honest and call them what they are - attacks. Free Hawaii!
@@zlatkokovach7862 they are disasters, please do not bring those conspiracies here. thank you, the people of lahaina have been hurt by such conspiracies, as they do not need them.
Nicely done Gentlemen! Enjoying the precisely timed instrumental rendition of the iconic song.

I agree with you 100% . I"m african american and i love almost every type of music .but this is at of the top of my list because of the harmony and the meaning behind the words so wonderful.

@@catherineortiz907I'm Caucasian and love an array of music types but the Hawaiian songs have pierced my heart since the 80s when heard for first time. I don't understand one word but it all resonates and usually makes me cry.
this is what Sunday music should be...it hits the spot...your heart.
Kauai is my favorite. I was born on that beautiful land. Now at 90 l want to go back. I have good health. And Kauai keeps calling me.
As a polynesian, I can feel the spirit , love of the culture and love of mother's earth Havai❤Love this song
I remember sitting and listening to this song on Sundays when my dad would put my mom's records on and it was like God had his hands on our hearts to make us feel safe & calm. I so miss those days! Thank you so much for this.
Not a drop of Hawaiian blood in me, but this has turned out to be one of my most favorite songs, and I have learned quite a few of the words to this beautiful masterpiece.
My adopted Tutu (grandparent) was full Hawaiian. I remember a few words.

The beauty of Humanity - all Hearts beating as one ! How touching and refreshing with all the darkness we can encounter. Just beautiful !!
The Hawaiian families show the world what unconditional love is. Just beautiful!👍
This fills me with so much pride. Anyone who feels this WILL cry.
I learned this song in high school years ago.
I just wish more artists joined this. There are so many awesome voices here. Some have passed but left an impact. Iz, may he rest in paradise, was one of the best. His loss left an impact and made so many cry. I could name so many but I’d still miss many so I’m not going to even make an attempt.
HAWAII forever!
I lived in Hawaii for a year and it was the most memorable time of my life! The beauty extends beyond it's nature and into it's people. So warm and welcoming. I feel so grounded and one with nature when I think of the respect people out there have for their surroundings. Hawaii will forever have a piece of my heart !
I remember singing this is high school and you held hands and looked at your brothers and sisters and Hawaiian or not, at that moment you were all children from the same family.
So true, all of the comments. The difference in this music is because of the heart. Deep from the heart these words are sung and played. I was raised all my growing up years in Hawaii Nei. Though a little 7 year old from the mainland, Hawaii is the other half of who I am. Now 84, I too have tears listening. My Kailua classmate, Priscilla (Maile) Kinimaka, included this song on her CD she blessed me with years ago. Thank you all, who did so much coordinated work to get this presentation together.
Aloha everyone who had a part in this mass production !!!!! I thank you from the bottom of my heart for educating all of us: whether native born in
Hawaii, or foreign born and now live here, or visitors from other places. Yes , there's no place like Hawaii Nei !!! I was born and raised here .
Finally , thank you to Playing For Change , Hawaii Aloha artists from all over who collaborated For Change. Robert S.J. Hu Aug. 26, 2020.
Love you Hawaii

Truly a connection to the human spirit: you don't need to understand the words to feel it!
The most precious experience in my 66 years of life is to have been part of the Hawaii ohana for twenty years. Bless you for such an exquisite representation of the beautiful soul of the aina and its people.

Some of the most Beautiful music ive ever heard. Didn't think I would, but I miss being there and hearing this beautiful music everyday on the radio.
i am going back to Hawaii very soon to see my parent's grave for the first time. The last time I went, was to see my dad pass away. This song will be played multiple times while I am there to remind me how blessed I am to have my family call Hawaii home. My 85 year old dad was born and died there, as well as my mom. Mahalo for this beautiful video to remind us all exactly what Hawaii means to us.
I'm a 44 year old Hawaiian/Mexican man that loves his heavy metal music. But I love this song so much. I dont know any of the words but it always brings a tear to my eyes. I wish I was back in Hawaii right now just to hear my grandma sing this to me.
What a Beautiful song. My husband was born and raised on Ohau and left there when he joined the Army at the of 18.

I'm not Hawaiian or have any roots from there (as far as I know), but I've lived in Hawai'i for a few months and I have never felt so at home anywhere else in the world. Your culture, your heritage, the incredible warmth you carry in your hearts just blows me away.

I was born and raised in my youth in Hawaii..... beautiful song which accompanies my most treasured memories- God Bless All!
We the original people of the land all of us natives have a deep connection to our homeland. The land was a gift to our people we were in trusted to care for all our relatives. From the two leged too the four leged creatures. Today we are standing up for your ancestors both human and non human. Because its time we heal our land. We have never left our land we have just forgotten it is our land. We are learning again who we are and who we must be. This song reminds of that one day the Kingdom of Hawaii will be free once again .
It's easy to understand how someone who visits the islands would not want to leave ... it is like the Eden God intended for all of us, in which to live !!
This might be my favorite video of all time. I wish I could sing and play with so much heart. These singers and musicians inspire me.

I am not hawaiian, and only managed to visit once, because a cousin lived there and had married a hawaiian. And for a few hours I visited (this was 45 years ago). His mother was a full-blooded Hawaiian, and I was able to talk to her for a few minutes. I will never forget it. As I left she told me, "remember, aloha mean love". Absolutely stunning. You know how some words just roll off of the tongue? The whole Polynesian language just rolls off of the tongue. The most beautiful language in the world, bar none.
captainandthelady listen to samoan music I would say it is the most flowing of the Polynesian languages
I know this comment is old but I would like to point out that the reason why Polynesian language "rolls" off the tongue is because it is a oral language meaning that the language was never written until Europeans introduce the alphabet and words to us.
You have obviously never heard of the Miyako language, quite possibly one of the best languages of all time.

The video is of hope and love for the future of Hawaii. The diversity of the Hawaiian people in this video is something that will make a lasting impression on me. It doesn't matter any more what DNA you have as long you are united in song, spirit but of the land. I hope the future generations of the children i see in this video will preserve the heritage, the traditions and respect the land and its surrounding waters. Mahalo
I cannot believe the amount of people who have put thumbs down, this is such a heart rending melody of extro ordinary beauty and all those coming together to sing it are united in love, those that down it must be very sad souless people, even if is not music to their taste, they cannot surely dislike the passion and unity of the hawaiian people.
The beautiful essence of Hawai'i and its people is manifested in this wonderful UA-cam. Only an ugly heart could give a thumbs down.
