I believe Muhammed went on to be a Volkswagen engineer or something similar? Probably significantly less time to make music tied together with the fact he can make more money doing technical work than he could probably ever make sweating it out in a tour bus. Because it’s just garbage. The only other music I can’t listen to at all is jazz but at least that has some kind of artistic merit.
Metal is just obese cringe lords who haven’t bathed in years putting on a fake voice and screaming into a mic while the rest of the “band” members make as much noise as they can.

Actually this doesn't latch on to me either. I LOVE the solo, but the rest of the song is a bit too much for me.
I do really enjoy Dream Theater and Tool and I really appreciate the solo but the rest of the song doesn't really do it for me. Purely subjective but, in my opinion, the drums are a bit too repetitive. I do enjoy some of the fills and the small parts in between but as a whole it's really only the solo I enjoy.

When I was introduced to metal I didn't like traditional heavy metal, but I loved Death Metal, and I was like 5 or 6 years old, I guess it depends on the person, you can either like the heavier stuff instantly or work your way to it. Maybe i'm just an exception to the rule?

@@KVROACEGGI also am not that fond of traditional heavy, to be honest. However, I did work my way to death metal. Started with prog rock, then alt metal, then I listened years and years of thrash metal and then finally I got to death metal.
When I was in my thrash era, I caught a faint glimpse of technical death metal and hated its guts. Just when I listened to death metal and slowly worked my way to tech death, understanding it better, that I actually got to enjoy it. Now tech death and death are my absolute favorite genres, alongside with classical music. We all approach music from distinct standpoints, it's astounding.

@@Breno1997 Wow you actually started with rock, not even metal? And yes, both classical and tech death demand a lot of attention, and it has a lot of replay value because of that, trying to get everything that the song has to offer. My other favorite genre is Rap but the complexity there is focused on the lyricism, rhyme schemes, metaphors, wordplay, all of that, it's crazy stuff too. But sadly mainstream Rap makes it seem like a bad genre.

Hannes Grossmann, the man on the drums, is playing together with Christian Münzner in a band called "Alkaloid", they're more on the progdeath side of things and i could see it being more of a fit for Judson. Both also have soloprojects which are incredible - Hannes' soloproject leans more towards the sound of Necrophagist, while the one of Christian is more like Alkaloid.
Christian Münzner plays in Obscura, which is also a very progy techdeath band. So if anyone wants to hear some other bands somewhat related to Necrophagist - there you go.

    • @troysmithfr
      @troysmithfr 3 місяці тому +1

Christian left Obscura years ago, replaced by Tom "Fountainhead" Geldschläger, and now Rafael Trujillo on lead guitar. Hannes was also in Obscura at one point, but now they have David Diepold on kit.
All great projects/bands mentioned. I agree that Judson might like Alkaloid more, at least until he acquires the taste of the Necrophagist sound. Hannes' solo project is certainly not to be slept on. "The Radial Covenant" features so many great artists from other bands (such as Per Nilsson from Scar Symmetry).

Nice Necrophagist let's go. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite reactions channels. Love seeing the diversity in taste from two friends who actually know music.
If it's any consolation to Judson, none of us Death Metal guys knew wtf we were hearing upon introduction to the genre. But as time goes on the measures do become easier to latch onto, to the point where now I crave that technicality, even though I might not understand the full piece upon a new listen, or twelve. 😅
Same with the vocals. After years of Death Metal listening you can never pick up all the lyrics from a new listen but you develop an ear for many of them, similar to picking up a new language as I always describe it.
Anyway yeah I believe Muhammad single handedly revolutionized Metal solo work, just so ahead of the time in that regard.
Looks like you've never reacted to Death. Judson HAS to hear some of them as they did arguably create the genre. Maybe the compositions are a little more his speed while showing him the roots of this grimly eccentric form of music.
Something off the album Symbolic is a must. Maybe Crystal Mountain or Misanthrope. Really can't go wrong with anything off the album.
    Cheers guys

Exactly the right term. Metal for me is an emotional release, and good metal songs are like diamonds in a sea of dust. Most other music is just fake, plasticy to me. Polished and produced to appeal to anyone and everyone. But in so doing it loses its soul. In metal, raw, unfiltered expression is celebrated and brings people together

"Tolle Maßnahmen" 🤣 Depending on what the name means to you, I'm thinking "Wesentliche Maßnamen" (as in fundamental, significant), "Grandiose Maßnahmen" (as in grandiose), or maybe even "Große Maßnahmen" (as in physically or metaphorically large).
Anyway, I've been enjoying this channel, thanks for putting it all together! I found Necrophagist just recently as I've been checking out more Tech Death, coming from a Doom/Stoner and generally experimental background. One band I found that I really like is Gorguts. Something off Colored Sands might be a good pick.
Also wanted to leave two general recommendations you might not be familar with. One is the band Huntsmen, specifially the song "Awake at Time's End" off of Mandala of Fear which is the most "not like the others" song on an already very stylistically varied album. The whole record is a great listen. The other recommendation is a band called Yautja from Nashville, specifically the album The Lurch. I couldn't put them in a box if I wanted to.

Definitely heard about Necrophagist, but never took the time to listen to them, thanks for bringing them to my attention through this channel. For the longest time i couldnt articulate the difference between death and black metal but now its pretty clear. Of course, i heard about the classic separation that people make by referring to the lyrics and the subject matter but to mem, it was always an effy difference. Cant classify metal sub-genres by the topic of the lyrics, it just doesnt sound right. On the other hand, production is really different. For example, its pretty known that early black metal bands were competing with each others to have the worst production, something that was never a thing in death metal. Also, the drum patterns in black metal can be pretty punk-like and that, again, never happens in death metal.

@@Greatmeasures Speaking of 'Obscura', maybe you should play him something of the album of the same name from Gorguts? That album has some of the most technical, complex, dizzying, angular, atonal and avantgarde death metal ever created. I bet that would really baffle him and leave him wondering what just happened.. 😁 Hell, that album still baffles even me, and I have listened to it repeatedly over the last 25 years. Truly a unique and one of a kind album, that took the genre places it had never gone before, and the rest of the technical death metal world is still catching up.. 🤗

If I'd recommend maybe some more melodic and more "catchy" tech death. Anything from Vale of Pnath's II album, Arsis (probably the first album), Son of Aurelius has a few from their first album, Allegaeon Is very melodic but can be very solo heavy for some people.
Also yeah, Mohammed is an engineer for BMW now. The most tragic part is before their silent quitting of the scene, they said they almost had the new material done but unfortunately nothing ever got released or teased.

When the show is over and everyone is exiting the building, there are people at the doors, handing out flyers for a concert that’s coming up soon and the flyer is the artwork from Akeldama. I went home, looked them up on Myspace and loved it.
Went back to the show they were promoting and the lineup was
      Job For A Cowboy
      A Life Once Lost
      The Faceless
      Despised Icon
      Those were the days.
