Judson: 😳
Richard: 🤘😠
I am a classical double bass player and I love Death and love transcribing Chuck's songs to my instrument, I can say that Death's bass lines are more difficult and complex than many bass lines in classical music. Rest in Peace Chuck Shuldiner!!
oh that's DiGiorgio, u must know him ;))
@@MasterOvPuppetz Of Course I know Him, He is one of my favourite bass players.
This is an extract of my transcription of Spirit Crusher on Double Bass! ua-cam.com/video/3nirDYkq5Ss/v-deo.html
You should listen to Colored sands by Gorguts, they have a lot stuff you'll love
Legendary band. Chuck has the same impact as Steve Harris in metal music. His music will live on forever RIP
Chuck has had a much greated impact than Steve Harris. Steve Harris is almost a nobody beyond the Iron Maiden fandom circles.
Ever heard of melodic death metal?@@amjan
Greatest Metal Musician of all time imo. Long live Chuck Schuldiner!!
@@amjan don't know what world you live in, but Steve Harris is highly regarded by tons of elite musicians. Not just "iron maiden fanboys".
And considering the size of Iron Maiden's fan base dwarfs Death's by a huge margin. Death are legendary Death Metal, and somewhat beyond as a gateway band, but Death Metal is still a niche sub genre. Anyone who thinks Chuck was more influential then Steve has lost the plot @@randywissler9923
Death is one of the only bands that each album is better (more technical, more progressive, more unique in my opinion) than the previous. One of the best bands of all times and this is one of their greatest songs.
Great pick, I'm not surprised Judson didn't like that one :)
I never thought about it that way, you are definitely spot on about that! I think Judson will enjoy Control Denied more than Death, that's why I really hope he does something from Control Denied!
For me, they peaked with "Symbolic".
@@TheCyberMantis Me too... 😎
@@TheCyberMantisFor me it’s this album but I would say that being a prog/metal head
@@TheCyberMantis Symbolic and this album are my faves from Death
I love Chuck and Death, and I appreciate the honesty here. So many react channels have people oozing with fake positive comments from the listener because they don't want to alienate the audience. The piano at the beginning of the video was quite moving too. Keep it up gentlemen, great channel.
Thank you!
Fr! The whe point is to "hopefully" get them to vibe what we already do and to feel that dopamine/serotonin hitbof nostalgia from when we first heard it...but it's the honest breakdown of pros and cons and that, I'd say, is even better cos it gives perspective and a reminder of our ability to be a bit solipsistic in our views! And this sing is very proggy in it's make up and not one of my favs either...so I laughed hella when he said it was all over the place cos that's my thought. Mwahahaha
@Greatmeasures1 That's not a death shirt is it?
@@mikelois5297 it’s not. It’s Putridity. They’re from Italy.
@Greatmeasures1 ohh duh lol yes it is.. appreciate the time to get back to me on that tho ... js throwing this out there megadeth is on my Mount Rushmore and since jed likes that older style I was wondering if mabe we could get some mercyful fate sometime.. another band on my Mount Rushmore
I've always loved the frantic and disorganized feeling of this song as it works perfectly with the theme of us having so much more inside us to express than our short time allows. It's like the song is panicking trying to get it all out.
I like the way you view it, the song always reminded me a bit of Holy Wars with all the riff changes too
I am from Brazil and Chuck lives here in our hearts. God Bless You Chuck!
Oh, what beauty Chuck could have written for us on this Earth given more time. Not that he did not give enough. RIP to the legend!
To have someone reacting to a metal song in such a geniuine way is so damn refreshing. Not everything has to be catered to the audience, having a discussion with someone with different tastes in music and still be open minded and respectful is the way to go. Perhaps something on the melodic side of death metal could be a better fit. Keep up the great work guys! Cheers from Argentina!
and yes, Chuck Schuldiner was a great composer. One of the most beloved music bands
What a phenomenal song pick
Thank you for reacting to this song, I was waiting for your first bite of Death and Chuck's work.
It's fine, Judson. In my case was the Chuck's voice my barrier number one and then was a joy for my ears.
The lyrics are amazing as well as the song itself!
Voice of the Soul is a blast! I'm very glad you enjoyed it.
Great measures!
Every song by Death is a masterpiece. A 100% Schuldiner Metal 🤘🖤🤘 Rest In Peace Chuck!! 🙏🙏
It's so much fun watching Judson being honest on a piece of metal history :-) keep going Judson!
I really appreciate that you guys play the whole song through without stopping. 🙏
Voice of the Soul next please! Judson needs to hear it, he will love it for sure!🤘
They did but it gets blocked - at least he's heard it.
❤
They tried it but for some reason this song in particular always gets blocked on youtube
Been waiting for this one. Thx guys.
I can see he has a great understanding of progression since he pretty much showed he knew the song repeated itself all over again and he wanted it to end lol.
I was hoping to see him try some of the melodies and such on piano after hearing the song, breaking down the notes & chords
"All over the place" is very accurate, I remember first hearing from this album, it really did seem all over to me at first but I think the songs just grew on me. Especially Scavenger of Human Sorrow. I think Spirit Crusher is one of the easiest to follow on the musical standpoint of this album, as well as Voice of the Soul but you already made a video on it.
I freaking love death, but I love honest people even more. it is nice to hear opinions from outside the death metal circles without fake positivity. great video
At least he had some love for Richard. Richard rules.
one of my all time faves from Death! Excellent!!!
Whoah.... This is the only reaction video I have ever seen that lets the song just play and feels genuine 💗
PLEASE consider Crystal Mountain if you do more from Death. Rest in power Chuck 🤘
Death walked me right into loving Death metal thank you Chuck ,and your right he was a genius and gone way to soon thanks for the vid!!
Chuck was such a huge influence on me as a guitarist..RIP
Favorite Death song! Awesome guys!
In the case of a band like Death (or, for example, Voivod), you need to get used to the songs, memorize them. And over time, you start to love them very much. But the first time it's pretty savage. We all had such reaction to this kind of music for the first time. But at 30 times of listening, you begin to see connections, to understand this schizophrenia. And love these even more than casual songs!
Dear Chuck lived so little and was so full of music, ideas, and thoughts that he sometimes put too much into songs! 😀
But that's why we love him, there are no others like him!
R.I.P.
Honesty is very important. Appreciated it! Chuck forever!
YES! YES! More Death please! This man needs more Chuck! He just doesn't know it yet ...
Just when I think it can't get any better. One of the best metal bands in history
I am glad this is a thing. A metalhead with a classical player. And everything is understood.
Gotta do Symbolic. This song is a pretty harsh listen for outsiders.
Definitely great guitar work
This is one of the better reaction channels I have ever seen
Crikey, that was a journey! Interesting song and feel I'd need to hear it a dozen times before I'd really get it. Not sure why Judson didn’t do a nice piano rendition afterwards...
Always nice to push the envelope, and the videos where he's not a fan are often my favourite. Can only imagine what his reaction would be to Infant Annihilator! I'm guessing he'd just walk off and that would be the end of that.
Hell yeah! Please show him some Control Denied, my personal favorite song is "Expect The Unexpected". RIP Chuck Schuldiner, his legacy lives on in the heart of every metal head!
Great song and great album :)
@@guylaub8505 agreed, The Fragile Art Of Existence never leaves my rotation of bands/albums I'm listening to. Such a beautiful album, and Tim Ayamar's vocals give Bruce Dickinson a run for his money. Tim Ayamar actually passed away last year, what an incredible voice he had!
best song to get some one into death. it hits all their facets as a band. rip chuck.
He nailed my thoughs! Great review!
Not sure still, what part of the whole review i like most, but at the end i think it is the special interaction and friendship i suppose you share. Keep on measuring. And yeah, Death is just great.
What a treasure of a Channel.
Also you guys could be a Comedy Duo
Super song. Great choice. My favourite album of theirs, hard choice considering their discography.
The lyrics really helped me connect with and appreciate the band before I really got into them heavy. Great lyricist
I absolutely love how honest he is! And the most important part he can respect the artistry in the song. I actually started listening to Death literally a few days ago and I was hooked right away, they totally blew me away. I listen to this whole album in one sitting and I was just like, wow this is absolutely incredible and I can't believe it took me so long to listen to this band.
classical pianist: nah bruh nuh uh
Crystal Mountain or Symbolic could do the trick
Without Judgement (orchestral version) 😄
Nice profile picture!!!!
Great reaction! Very measured response
First time hearing death metal and I'm amazed. The musicianship is awesome. Gonna dig more into Death and death metal genre.
I totally agree with Judson on this one - Death is often all over the place and transitions are too harsh, but I've learned to deal with it eventually, because all other stuff in their songs are phenomenal.
i personally dig the jarring harsh transitions i can't really day why but they just click with me
Death fan here. I relate with you on this song (and most of the Perseverance album) : it's amazing parts often badly assembled in quite messy structures and too much forced or abrupt transitions. The exact opposite from Symbolic which is my favorite album of all time. You definitely could do "Symbolic", "Without Judgement", "Crystal Mountain" from the Symbolic album. And the vocals are much better too. I also highly recommend the Human album, which is probably my second favorite of all time haha!
Completely agree! A lot of the songs are like this on this album, but this one is particularly messy. Symbolic was a much more a coherent album, but in general, he retained a similar way of abruptly switching between ideas. Still, I think it's all a part of the charm of his music.
iirc he didn't really want to do this album, it was more the studio forcing it out of him because of the contract. I always read he wanted to move into doing Control Denied but they wanted more Death because it was an established brand and would probably sell better.
@dorsia6938 Yeah this is why it's kind of all over the place as an album. A majority of the songs were reworked from the other project to be more Death because of contractual obligations to the record company.
wow, that one is a nice surprise, Death was great band
Sacred Serenity! Would love to hear the reaction to that!
HOW I LOVE THIS SONG!
nice shirt! now THAT would be a fun react
Haha Judson I appreciate the honesty and can agree to some points. I'm glad you pointed out the drums because imo they are mvp on this song. If you guys check out another Death song try Lack of comprehension, one of the first Death songs I tried to learn on the guitar :)
I love the honesty.
That was the SPIRITUAL HEALING 😷
.
Miss You Chuck so much. As a human and as a genius!
Voice of the soul off this same album. I can't listen to it without shedding at least one tear.
Voice of the soul is soooooo good. It was the key that unlocked the whole of Death's discography to me
The Precise Chaos of Death soothes me every single time
Fast but yet melodic, great as usual from this band no matter who were playing with Chuck, r.i.p.
Bite The Pain or Perennial Quest could be a Death Redemption track. Flesh was too much and a little all over the place at times for a single hearing session. 🤘🏻 Keep it up
HELL YEAAA!!!!!!!! Death🤘🤘🤘
Death is far and away, my favorite band of all time. Their albums only ever improved over time. I've had Symbolic in my cd player for 3 months now 😄.
Best metal band ever
Love the song. Love the band.
And mad respect to you guys' but I'm subscribing just because of the Putridity shirt
Open your eyes bro it's amazing
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
Sound Of Perseverance was the album that got me into Death. Other great songs off this album are Scavenger Of Human Sorrow, Spirit Crusher, Voice Of The Soul (Instrumental) & Painkiller. Their cover version of Painkiller by Judas Priest is untouchable in my opinion way better then the original. Chuck was such a talent. His music will live on. RIP
the sickest riff is on "To Forgive is to Suffer" though
Same for me, SoP was first album and now im big Death fan😊
Great measures!
Long live Chuck! My inspiration as a young metal head and bass player from day one until now. You need to play Trapped in a Corner for Judson.
Keep measuring more Death🤟 some of the Spiritual Healing album or some from the Symbolic and yeah I do understand why Judson not liked but for me is one of the greatest metal bands ever 🤟
Chuck and Death was a pioneer of technical, melodically, and death metal in general.
I understand this man, it is not music for everyone, and he is not everyone either. Death were and will be absolute geniuses as musicians and Chuck was an alien. Incredible piano of int
Death was an awesome band. I hope you have him listen to some Symphony X at some point. Some of their songs have direct classical pieces embedded - there's even a youtube video about it. It was pretty cool for me to see after having listened to that stuff since I was a kid.
One of the best bands of all time with no weak record in their discography…
I'm a huge Death (and Death Metal) fan and I'm yeat to see someone to dig it in the first listenings... it takes YEARS... I took some years trying to dig it, until I finally could grasp and comprehend it (and I was already an amateur guitarrist and drummer, I knew music theory)
So many gems on this album
Death's music makes me feel at peace and happy. RIP Chuck.
Finally! YEAH!!!
Death and Chuck where pioneers and amazing artists which turned prog and techdeath into the state it is today. The Sound of Perseverance is the most proggy album from Death and you can hear, that Chuck wanted to experiment his style of music.
But i can see why Judson doesn't like the song, maybe the song "Story to Tell" would've been a better pick from the album, because it keeps it's tempo pretty constant through the entire song.
Death has a huge place in my heart of music, introduced me to the genre i enjoy the most to this day and most of his albums just work for me, when i don't know what else i could listen to.
Even though this band became my favorite band eventually - in the past I tried giving this band a shot 4 times before it clicked with me. First time was in 2005 then 2007 then 2018 then late 2019. In August of 2022 I was recommended the album Symbolic and thought to myself "everyone rants and raves about this album. I want to listen to the whole album and give it a real proper try". I had bought Individual Thought Patterns in 2007 and even though I didn't outright hate it - it didn't click with me and I was obsessed with other bands like King Crimson and Mr. Bungle at the time too. Well anyway I listened to all of Symbolic the whole way through and ended up loving it then The Sound of Perseverance, Human, Individual Thought Patterns(again), Leprosy, Spiritual Healing then Scream Bloody Gore. Loved it all and became obsessed with them. I think the vocals threw me off originally with this group and that's why it was hard to get into for me.
Thanks for your honest reaction btw. Thanks for trying Death too as well. Yeah I have heard others reacting to this album weren't a fan of the jarring style of song structures. It personally never bothered me being a huge fan of avant guarde music in general. So probably not for everyone. If you give anything else from this album a spin try "a moment of clarity" some of the song structure in that is more digestible. This album is my personal fav from them - the guitars sound like raw radiant passion and the drumming and bass playing is downright thunderous from beginning to end. Death has one of the very best and most solid discographies ever and one of the most progressive ones too. Great reaction again
Love the Voice of Soul , my fav instrumental solo
Death is the best heavy band of all time and Chuck is a legend!
Not easy-peasy radio-ffriendly music for sure!
Voice of the soul
Voice of the Soul is a great song from the same album, y'all should give it a listen
4:02 my favorite reaction bit
i like the honest reaction "dont like it" too
maybe he would like calmer ones, voic eof the soul, moment of clarity
Is that a Blackbraid hoodie I spot? 🙌🏻
I think his comment, around the 15:30 mark, "I don't understand..." speaks volumes. It's a very honest and direct assessment. I have been a fan of underground Metal for as long as it has existed - and also a musician, who loves Classical as well, for instance. But I have always observed that, especially with the more extreme forms, folks (musically trained or not) simply don't...understand what's going on. Even as he says here, he can appreciate the artistry, but the whole, so to speak, is just incomprehensible. And I believe that is just how more extreme Metal strikes a lot of people. As much as I cherish it, I can also see how and why others would not.
I've only been listening to metal for about 9 years, and I've started to explore and understand death metal and all its variations in the last 8 months. And I've always had the opinion that metal is adrenaline, headbanging and such. Until I met Death, who transformed my conception of adrenaline into genius and beauty and at the same time heavy
Voice of the Soul
Ah just how I reacted when I was only playing trumpet in the school band.
Musical appreciation grows, inevitably.
I was so stoked to see Death on here but kind of disappointed he didn't find appreciation for some of the harmonies and classically influenced composition. Richard, keep bringing on the Death till it wins him over 😅
he seems to ignore the most beloved parts of songs or nitpicks at some random bit that just comes down to difference of taste. It's oddly energy draining watching him pick at high energy songs in the most bland and unimpressed way ever. I'd love to hear him say a positive thing once or twice. The Pantera reviews killed my soul a bit haha
@@mrmanju6989 I've watched a handful of these videos and the guy always seems very unimpressed by anything. He doesn't appear to enjoy the music at all, even if it's more digestible. I get the impression that he just wants the music to end so he can continue on about his day, lol. I can't really get into these "reactions".
I totally agree with Judson. Even though I recognise the musical genius behind the song, it's way too all over the place for me.
Finally!
Great Measures
Finally, it comes to DEATH!
Long Live Metal🤘🏽
