      This is a good weapon to fright of unarmored guys in a wide open space. So it´s probably pretty effective for personal defense on streets. However of course it was not used in wars. It has almost zero effect on anyone wearing even just padded clothes, can´t be used indoors or in dense woods and can´t be used in formation as you would hit the guy beside you. Its also a lot harder to use while wearing armor yourself and needs a lot of training. The only ones who had enough time to train something like this would be professional soldiers. But those would also have armor and fight armored opponents. So yeah, this was never used on any real battlefield to any effect.

      Totally agree, we must unite in busting our faces with chains on this glorious turn of events. We are the chosen chain proficianados. The bagpipes pull us to the past to launch us into the future. This guys mediocrity after seeing two high level chain whipper snappers will give us the fire needed to take on this epic undertaking. I will go prepare my face now by hitting it with a baseball bat until it is prepared for glorious chain practice.

    Not gonna lie, this is tame to what I've seen in China. I used to live next to a park I'd walk past every morning on my way to work. There was an old man there, maybe 80+ who'd be spinning a chain all morning that was absolutely huge, as thick as your arm big. I used to be late for work plenty of times because I'd get caught up watching the hypnotic/terrifying things that man could do with a chain.

  • @ogchaxzor3562
    @ogchaxzor3562 4 роки тому +9

    so how do you keep the chain moving after you hit something? It looks nice when you are just spinning the chain around but as soon as you hit something you will lose that momentum.

    The part where you kicked the rope, you can instead catch the rope with the arch of your sole and use the foot as the anchor to swing the rope to the left. You can then spin further to the left and really put force into a longer range swing. Take it from a Chinese kid who quite literally grew up on a farm.

    That stuff was awesome. I am 52 now and use to work the Nunchaku in my younger days. They were originally a farm tool if I understand right. The way I understood it was they took any kind of weapons away from the people of Japan and to protect themselves from the powers to be was to use tools they had to farm with to use as weapons, which the Nunchaku was used to beat the husk off of rice. If I am right that is. This is something a martial Artist told me that was a black belt in karate.

I wouldn't expect you to be carrying both I'll be "like tf you pull that whip from? Whoa hey easy I'll shoot! Wait wtf where did the gun come from?" And I'll either run because next thing I'ma guess you'll be pulling out a shotgun or something if I'm not shot already 😂 anyways, all seriousness, always be prepared and surprise is always best advantage.

    Off the bat seeing this for the first time, in combat if you were to land the first shot there is a possibility of injuring them. However the recovery time in order to throw other strike doesn’t seem fast enough. What’s stopping the opponent from charging or lunging with a sword, dagger, or even just their fists after the first strike

    • @blackguard5883
      @blackguard5883 6 років тому +1

      Sword and board must be a nightmare for a weapon like this. Extend blade and flick the wrist, causing the chain to bind. Pull the blade away and the chain with it, step forward with the shield foot, and plant the rim of the shield in the foe's face.

    • @kodioneil7367
      @kodioneil7367 6 років тому +3

      Whips realistically arent a very good weapon for that reason and the fact they typically only do superficial damage. Stabbing with a knife or bashing with a blunt instrument like a hammer or a bat are more effective so basically dont expect to win any self defense conflicts with a whip

    • @blackguard5883
      @blackguard5883 6 років тому

      I agree completely with that analysis. I merely felt the urge to comment on it as this is being marketed as a "self defense course", when it should be labeled a "recreational martial art" or "performance martial art form". Honestly I've wondered if a whip paired with a renaissance style parrying dagger would work, but you'd mostly be trying to bind the opponent or control their movement with the whip. The blade would be the real killing tool. Unless of course somebody got _very_ sloppy, and strangling them with the whip became convenient.
      Yes, I play these scenarios out in my head. I really don't care if that's weird.

    • @kodioneil7367
      @kodioneil7367 6 років тому

      ya i mean im no expert but you'd likely be better off in most scenarios with just the knife. whatever amount of attention you dedicate to using the whip is only going to detract from what you do with the knife, and unless you practice the combo regularly it may just confuse you and get in the way.
      i cant speak to how effectively a whip can bind up your opponent but my bet is that it doesnt matter in most realistic encounters. you bind up your opponent with the whip.. and then what? they will likely close in on you regardless of the situation, so all that tension will just be turned into slack anyways and you wont have any control. but if you simply had a knife, now you are concerned with using the knife effectively and can dedicate all your energy into stabbing or preferably running/intimidating the opponent enough to stop the altercation.
      a whip might be useful for inflicting enough pain to scare the opponent away really you'd be better off with something more practical like a baton or pepper spray. though if possible carrying a firearm is ideal imo for two main reasons, being it is far easier to use and far more lethal if it needs to be, and it can be used much more effectively as a deterrent than a melee weapon.

    • @blackguard5883
      @blackguard5883 6 років тому

      Guns are an obvious enough counterpoint to melee I usually don't bother bringing them up. You'd have to break line-of-sight and try for a sneak attack if you literally brought a knife to a gunfight. And yeah, whip is a niche weapon. _Very_ niche. If I had a real choice, spear or sword+shield, depending on the scenario. If I were stuck dual wielding, side-sword and dagger. At least those are all practical and flexible.

    Oke Jake question I have a lot of expierence in material arts with all types of weapons I have expierence with around 20 Weapons. I bought a nine section whip and have serieus trouble keeping it erect for some reason. I have expierence with the meteorhammer, 3 section staff, nunchuku, and even with the horsetail whisk. Never have I had a probleem with any of these weapons to spin it erect, but for some reason it takes a shit ton of speed to keep this thing erect cause the end weight feels that licht what am I doing wrong that causes my near perfect flow with any other type of liquid weapon to not transfure to this one?

    Chain Whip seems like an optimum melee weapon for quick sneaky attacks with range... I employed the weapon for a character in a fantasy novel I wrote (Blood For Wiganda) but called it a chain-dagger... I'm no expert but I tried to make it as badass as possible with my limited martial arts knowledge of it... I think this summer I'll try to rig up the non-lethal tennisball version.

    • @TheGazramar
      @TheGazramar 6 років тому

      i'm sure that would help in writing about it too. You should learn basic training for other weapons you plan to incorporate into your stories. Stances, moves etc. It would also help with know how the character would have to flow during fights. Good idea i say. Good luck to you on your writings.

    I love the part where he winds the chain whip around his own neck. Nothing says self defense like choking yourself with a metal whip to save your attacker the trouble of actually attacking you. If you kill yourself before he can move in, you've completely negated the attacker's purpose. For this, he needs to wear a t-shirt that says "Be a Corpse".

      I’ve seen chain whips with spiky balls attached to them, or even spiral blades. This is very effective if you have enough practice and a good weapon, you can disarm your opponent with the sword snatching technique, this also could work against guns if they were long enough.

    Not meaning this in a rude way, but is this form more of a meditative 'tai chi' calming style (fun studying old martial art styles) or is this considered a legitimate form of portable effective melee compared to a knife (for multiple attackers or even a single attacker compared to a good defensive knife?) I can only imagine that the spear tip could inflict a single probably devastating cut if aimed and carried through correctly, but would possibly be very easily taken away from the user. Compared to a knife that is closely managed near the body with more accuracy. idk
