I define Megaforce as a missed opportunity, they could have made a group of teenagers learning to be rangers in training, working hard and improving their skills as protectors of the world and understanding the importance of being a ranger (Goseiger), and then making them understand the importance of the legacy and the passing of generations and how the new generation is a mirror of the old in a certain way, but still being something different (Gokaiger) Megaforce lived more in "what can be" than really being something distinctive, and that, to me, is the most disappointing thing about the show Ps: I From Brasil and they think it Will be funny put random bad popular slangs in every episode... So yeah it's very cringe to watch... I Just wanna talk about this... Because is awful
@Bear Purple Kate turns out old Johnny Tzachor was the reason for all this. Anytime Bates tried to develop them beyond planks of wood that make the character from Ed Ed and Eddy seem nuanced, Tzachor ripped him a new asshole over it. We can't have character development; we need 98 fight scenes in this one episode. It got to the point that Bates just outright quit after "Spirit of the Tiger." It's why Megaforce was much better in comparison (Bates oversaw it and had a tiny bit of control) and Super Megaforce goes downhill into a volcano with Orion's introduction and beyond.
A positive spin on Megaforce??? They said it was impossible, they said I was crazy, and I am! Also, for those curious, I will not be getting rid of my first Megaforce review, because I still think as shitposts go, it’s decently entertaining. And what’s more, it happens to mean a lot to many ardent viewers of mine. It also works as a good point of comparison from where I was to where I am as a UA-cam video person.
Eh Megaforce is still lame to me. I prefer Goseiger over Megaforce HOWEVER it has One thing over Goseiger which is Emma sings in the episode where Troy uses the wind card to blow petals. Gosei Pink however in the original version just does "La La La." So yeah
One of the biggest weaknesses of Megaforce, no matter how many concepts it tries to cook up, is the pacing. The pacing outright sucks. Instead of using the Sentai footage to their advantage, we just get fight scene padding. Super Megaforce is where things get absolutely absurd with their Sentai footage padding. You can see why Megaforce is less hated compared to Super Megaforce. We got less padding (oh but it certainly exists. See Gosei Ultimate and the Messenger for the worst examples). Anyone can create a cool concept. It takes skill, budget, and support to execute those concepts well.
As a kid, I positively worshipped Megaforce because I thought the idea of the legendary battle and them being able to access the powers of past rangers was perhaps the best concept of fan service that the show writers could ever come up with. But as I became a teenager and discovered the internet, I found out that a lot of people really hate it which, btw, not really surprised there. Even as a kid, I saw the faults in the shallow character writing and disappointing climaxes (ie. legendary battle) especially when compared to the past era which gave us gems like RPM and Jungle Fury. But as characters, I don't think there's really anything bad about them on surface level. I think the biggest problem that fans actually have with this show is how disappointing it was. There's barely an ounce of character development and even the fan service cameos aren't done right and have very little impact on the bigger story. Personally, I think that neo-saban era dumbed power rangers down too much into being nothing but a kids show when that is clearly not the case as seen in more mature plot points handled in past seasons. They just wasted so much potential. Love what you did with the video though. I hope this can open more conversations about Megaforce in a slightly better light. I can barely ever tolerate actually watching Megaforce these days because of how cringey the writing and the acting is most of the time but it has a special place in my heart and I can never really hate it. I love reading fanfictions about it though. I love to see various plot points expanded and explored in ways that canon should have but never did.
This whole video basically in a nutshell; "It might have been garbage but it had it's merits". Noticed how DB didn't say he actually liked the season or that it still isn't in his bottom 3 Seasons. I do agree with him on Troy. While he doesn't have Andros or Wes character potential, he easily could have been the best Red out of the Neo-Saban era.
You know I wonder what would’ve happened if Disney never gave up on power rangers & they continued to adapt after RPM. I wonder what there version of shinkenger would be like🤔I know that they definitely would’ve gave both goseiger & gokaiger a good adaptation. In once a ranger they actually played the theme song for each ranger season which gokaiger did the same when ever they changed. I always hoped we could have the theme play while they changed into past rangers

I remember liking Wild Force as a kid for two reasons. One was the many Zord combinations, always found that fun and made me more interested in the Zord battles than any other season before it. Two was the dynamic between Master Org and Cole. Those two truly did have the dynamic of super hero vs his super villain arch enemy, because of their backstory. Oh and I liked Zen-Aku.
I believe super mega force should have been its own series. Rather than a normal "super" season, Mega force ends with the original team being captured and roboknight being destroyed. So Gosei is forced to bring together a new team, wielding the powers of past rangers.
yes, Gokaiger deserved a full adaptation of it's own instead of being crammed onto Goseiger's as just the Super half. And omfg how could they not even bother to TRY doing GokaiChristmas? They shoehorn in lame clip episodes for Christmas and Halloween every year but when they have an actual Christmas Ranger they don't bother? Thank Zordon Hasbro seems to be smarter & more considerate of the franchise than Saban was after getting the rights back from Disney....
They could've simply sacrificed their zords and powers in order to defeat Vrak while Gosei and tensou(maybe) could've died when base gets overrun by gokaiger footsoldiers that way rangers could have gone in search for the pirate powers and ranger key chest and gosei's demise could also explain team' new no nonsense attitudes
@Aman Patel hell, there was even a Zord fight that went unused in "Vrak is Back" where they defeat Vrak with Ultra Gosei Great. If you're wondering, it most likely went unused because it very prominently features Datas (Tensou's equivalent) in his Zord form which was never adapted into Power Rangers due to Nickelodeon's bullshit.
The deep analysis videos you’ve done on this series is really good, I personally grew up watching samurai,mega force and Dino charge and I love them all equally. I know growing up with certain seasons can make a person biased and each three of those seasons had a lot of flaws but I love them regardless

Megaforce kind of still holds a special place in my heart despite its poor quality mainly because it was the first season I consistently sat down and watched when I was younger. It's kind of a guilty pleasure now to be honest, I know it's not a great season, but I just can't bring myself to hate it or anyone involved in it.
Unfortunately super megaforce is just as bad as his original video said. Orion was the only good thing besides the fact he's just a ripoff of several other extra ranger stories.
In a better season the points you stated would probably be highlights that everyone would love but unfortunately the writing and directing held it back.
Surprisingly, this is the thing I noticed too when I saw two to three episodes of megaforce as they were being recasted recently in my country. Their optimism and ability to see things for what it is, ignoring the outer skin, is commendable. All of them are actually too mature and ideal which is good but then it is unreal because no teenager is all mature and ideal.
I've found the whole Roboknight performing rap moment neat when watching since it was a sweet moment where he embraced the modern world and their culture. The fact that this happened after he went to a library stood out to me. Also the Rico episode which while from what I've heard is directly pulled from Goseiger fits a bit more with the fact that Roboknight is actually a machine that they can use as an example of a non-evil machine. While I wouldn't say Megaforce is amazing. (It's admittedly a bit lower on my tier) at the end of the day it's a harmless watch for kids to see. There isn't anything actually insulting that is a bad message to kids that I recall. Wish it wasn't compared to their sentai varients in level of potential when it just has their own identity for better or worse.
Also I wish to add this cast is nice. The fact that they're so chill and willing to go to morphicon even if not necessary kinda makes em' probably one of my favs.
Roboknight rapping was single handedly the absolute fucking worse moment in all of power rangers history. The amount of just fucking cringe was fucking unbearable and it made me stop being sober after 7 years.

The worst to me is either "we have to hit her in the right spot, above the heart, where memories are kept" (yes, that's an actual line from MMPR Season 3's "Chimp in Charge") or Clean-Up Club's "It looks totally far out and funky down the drain dude." I too had a lot of good ideas as to what it could've been. It had a lot of trial & error, & I came up with something interesting. So instead of an utter rewrite it would have a IN universe reason to set rewrite & it ironically starts with a bad guy wanting to destroy them.
Ah yes, a positive Megaforce review. About time. Aside from Noah experiencing self doubt, the humanity concept was something I enjoyed. Especially the Dream Snatchers episode, where it’s on full display that dreams and ambitions are what drive and empower us to give something our all. When I’m feeling down or feel like quitting or giving up, I tend to go to the episode and just watch as specifically the musician gets back up and continues to play. That, or I go find the Goseiger opening. Actually, even “Earth Fights Back” in Super Megaforce says that we humans will never back down, that our endurance in the face of adversity is a sign of our strength. I patiently (not true at all) await your next entry: - Jenny Chen Edit (10/12/2020) - I can't believe I missed the fact that Emma lost her mother. Did anyone else miss that? It's in the episode where she sings to the flowers, and Dischord (is that his name) is in. With her next season being the one to most try to connect to Orion after he's lost his village, it certainly gives her perspective.
I think we have already established that Megaforce and to some extent Super Megaforce had some good themes,concepts and ideas, I mean look at this Insectoids, Mutants and robots as villains and if they bothered to add Basco to the mix then it would have a humanoid villain too, then we have two 6th rangers both with pretty interesting backgrounds and Orion had a full on Andros thing going on for him if it was handled well, then there's Noah with the self doubts and Jake trying to be chill but not being able to handle it and Troy burdened with the responsibility of leading the team,decoding his dream and finally the past ranger cameos ,all at the same time , just imagine how awesome the two seasons could have been if handled more competently
Definitely interesting. Megaforce(and Super) have never been seasons I liked really. But you bring up some good points and sometime down the road(maybe sooner than later) I want to rewatch it again. I'll have to keep this, and your upcoming Super, video in mind when I do.
Well said, if this was written better, Mega Force would indeed be known as it having the most compassionate rangers ever. Basically goodie goods with depth. Plus learning important things like, Fight for the earth [& its environment] see those for who they are & not what they are & overcome the odds & adversity. Among other such lessons.
Not sure if you'll get to it next video, but your take on Troy and Robo Knight's relationship kinda gives greater context to that "You have a mission to fulfill" line. It's as if Troy was so emotional in that moment because the one thing he and Robo Knight shared that made their thematic relationship work (the "mission first" attitude) had gotten taken away when Robo got hijacked

Scott Sandler No it didn’t. Please don’t confuse your head canons with actual canon facts. The Morphin Grid has never been shown to do what you claim, it’s a multiversal energy field that gives all Rangers their powers, it has never been shown to do what your suggesting. Gem and Gemma were just lucky and gotten the morphers in time to get of the place, which wasn’t impossible as their deaths weren’t even confirmed. The show doesn’t even imply anything about how Robo Knight survived. The *real* reason Robo Knight came back suddenly was because the writers just weren’t trying this season.
I personally think Turbo was much worse. If for no other reason than holy shit, the monster voice acting. Look up footage of Terror Tooth or the Mad Mechanic. It's horrendous.
@@lorddrayvon1426 I understand that many viewers didnt like Turbo but I honestly thought Megaforce and Super Megaforce was much much worse. It really ruined that anniversary season for me. Even with production problems they could have did so much better instead it came off as lazy and cheap.
@@zdaladorsey1152 to me, Megaforce and Turbo are tied since they're equally awful. Taken on it's own, or without the anniversary crap and just judged on it's own merits, Super Megaforce is mediocre except for the acting. We pan the writing of Megaforce but it wasn't much worse than much of Samurai or the later Dino Charge. Turbo is, especially in the early episodes, objectively terrible. It's better than Megaforce considering it wasn't supposed to homage the past but it did almost kill the franchise until In Space saved it. Unpopular Opinion #2; I honestly think In Space is pretty terrible and only worked as it was the best up to that point. Bar certain episodes, it really doesn't hold up to me. Why? Amongst other thing, Andros' acting, the fact that the praised plot about Astronema takes 27 episodes to go anywhere beyond "Darkonda stole Karone," and the monsters were lackluster at best. And let's not even talk about Grandma Matchmaker or The Rangers' Mega Voyage (unless you're curious.) It's got less bad episodes than Turbo but it's lows are far lower than Turbo's lows.
Since the theme revolves around them having the Knowledge of the old rangers, it would have been nice if pressure was put to them for living up to the old ranger names
Wild Force, Samurai, and RPM are the series I grew up with, so seeing Jaden, the Eagle Zord, and Red Lion in Megaforce had me squealing like a little girl
This is actually one of my favorite seasons and I think my introduction to Power Rangers as a whole IIRC Needless to say, it was Vrak, Noah, Rico and Robo Knight that became my favorite characters of this season.

Honestly, Megaforce’s first half is a lot better upon a rewatch, as you can get a grasp some of the themes and some ideas that got a bit of development. It’s a lot like Samurai in that way. I feel the Pirate Series wasn’t suppose to be adapted and the OG Megaforce Idea was going to take up the entire series, but didn’t, these ideas could have been developed further, but they got cramped into the last 4 episodes to started the Pirate stuff ITS SUPER MEGAFORCE which drops the ball. HARD.
Even after watching this video I still think both seasons are trash. DB mentioned so much of it's themes and intentions but it's al poorly written and fall flat on almost every level. Even DB admitted this. This video has the adverse effect on me compared to rest of this comment section, I think show is even worse after watching this.

We've done our best and we failed. We're no match for that thing. Fine. Yes, I've given up."* Tell me again who's the better Red Ranger?
When they stopped teleporting, no real explanation was given to why this was. Imagine the rangers ask about it and Gosei keeps changing the subject. Eventually it revealed there no way to repair the tech and either he feels shame in letting them down or disappointed in being unable to maintain a certain mentor image. Or how about how something they were entrusted by Zordon is useless now? Would have been a stand out moment for Gosei and tie into how all those keys, zords and so many other things were inherited to them. Gosei could speak more about Zordon once they opened up about that and explain why the teleporter being broken was such a big deal to them.
For anyone wondering who James Bates is, you might know him as the guy who made Robo Knight rap, the mastermind behind the crappy Super Megaforce opener of the same name, and the guy who made Robo Knight evil and killed Vrak.
Unpopular opinion, I have a personal love for Megaforce and the character of Troy especially. He help me realize how much morality is to me as a person and on top of that, help me slowly overcome my own preference to remain introverted. Granted I still struggle with those feelings but I'm more willing to accept and strive to change instead of remaining in the rut I ended up placing myself in. Troy as a character helped me in so many ways and I glad I stumbled upon this video.
Did not mind megaforce as we all knew it was never going to be good. We just watched it as we felt obligated to watch a few episode because we grew up on power rangers. Super Megaforce on the other hand has no excuse. It took a huge dump on fans like me who grew up in the 90s watching EVERY episode as it aired from MMPR to around Mystic force. It failed to do what an anniversary season is supposed to do and that is to honor everything that got it to this point. For example they morphed into more sentai only teams than power ranger teams ! Like WTF?!!!! How is this honoring the legacy of power rangers when more than half of the rangers used have no legacy!! Super megaforce did not care about its long standing fans and even worse, they did not care about their own franchise! If they don’t care then why the hell should we? As far as I’m concerned, as well as many others of my generation, power rangers ended at Mystic force with RPM and jungle fury being “bonus dlc” everything else is filler. Sorry for the rant but had to get it off my chest.
@Jeric Binuya. Power rangers has been around for so many years that the fandom is divided. The people who watched from the beginning should be around 30 now and to those megaforce is seen very poorly. Then there are those who started watched it when Disney took over who I kinda in the middle. Then the ones who started in the nick era who love it. It’s not the entire fandom who dislike it, just a portion of it
ANO No that’s not true, most people just don’t like Megaforce, it’s not even just a “portion” of the fandom who hated it, it’s everyone by a large majority, it was never positively received. I watched Megaforce when I was younger and I walked away with not much attachment to the series. To this day I actually like Jungle Fury more than I ever did Megaforce, probably because that show actually had character development and the characters had depth. The Neo Saban Era as a whole is disliked by many in the fandom, largely because we seen infinitely better in *both previous eras.* Samurai and Megaforce suffered for similar reasons. The acting was bad, the plots are weak, usually just pulled straight from the Sentai, and the writers in general seem to be putting very minimal effort. It’s worth noting that Jonathan Tzachor is to blame for this as the cast and the staffs of Megaforce actually had ideas to make Megaforce more creative and have more development but he shot those down. It really says something when, once free of their contracts to Saban due to them expiring, the cast of Megaforce itself openly express their own criticisms with it, namely how they practically begged to do more than fight scenes but were shot down every time. When not even the *ACTORS* liked the season they performed in, you know it’s not just a average show, it was just a bad one.
So, my hot take is that troy is one of my favorite rangers. I am an introvert who is blatantly socially awkward. Seeing him be able to succeed without "growing out" of these traits is inspiring.
Allegedly, Saban wanted to skip right to Gokaiger because of the anniversary, but Nick wouldn't allow them to skip any series, and they had to stay on the "super" season plan. What ended up happening (allegedly) was they rushed to the finish line on Goseiger, but they were so tired and frustrated by the time it was time for Gokaiger that they just decided to use as much sentai footage as possible.

Goseiger is one of my favorite Sentai seasons i've seen, Megaforce stepped all over it. it's why i have issues with Megaforce/Super Megaforce (cause Gokaiger is awesome too)

I can't wait to see what you do with super megaforce. I feel like that season in particular is worth digging into because not only of the decision to step away from the pirate theme, but also because it incorporated one team of rangers as two different sentai adaptations, at the same time. I don't know exactly how to feel about that but I do believe its worth discussing. I also feel as if super megaforce handled bringing on Orion as super megaforce silver, but that they didn't really do him well in the story itself. They could've done so much more with his character and they didn't. Super megaforce feels to me to be the season of Ignored Potential more than anything else, even more than the sentai/pr anniversary season it was. I recently watched Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger and honestly? There's some things I liked super megaforce better for. I know, quite the hot take. But the way they brought on Gai as compared to bringing on Orion really didn't feel as right to me. I mean sure, they wanted somebody local and a super sentai fan gai's character really meshed better with the story gokaiger was telling than orion did, but i'm unsure as to which i prefer as a character. Also rip super megachristmas. such potential wasted. Haven't really seen much of megaforce. Couldn't get into it as much.
I’m probably going to get hate from this, but when I came back to Power Rangers this was the season I watched. It was the newest at the time & I loved every single episode. I didn’t see any flaws until I started watching reviews on Megaforce & I was felt bad for liking this season a lot like I do RPM, but now after seeing this video I’d like to thank you Disney Brain for making me not as bad anymore. I really do like this season of Power Rangers & Goseiger is equally as good. Please don’t bash me for this...This is my opinion. I really enjoyed Megaforce despite what people say as their flaws & Yes, I did start watching Power Rangers from the very beginning.
Wow I was one of the few people who watched it a the time of release and I still enjoy for the great season it is, I think that super mega force was the superior if the two since mega force was a bit slow at times but it was still good, I do remember seeing some episodes of samurai which kickstarted my interest into the franchise but it was super mega force that got me to love it. I also liked how they would use the abilities of the past rangers and train with their new abilities rather than what dino charge did with the energems since they don't need any training and also with the over reliance of new powerangers
i know nobody is going to see this, but thank you. after your Megaforce vid I lost a lot of faith in this very nostalgic series cuz I couldn't defend it. but you have given me a way to love it for something again. so even if nobody sees this, thank you for saving Megaforce for me.
If i had to re-write Megaforce, the Goseiger adaption, i would has the Rangers be live in Angel Grove and students at Angel Grove High instead and rename Megaforce as Power Rangers Star Guards. I would have the Warstar be the last remaining of Scorpius' insectoid army, the Toxic Mutants be related to either the Mutants, from Time Force, or the Orgs, from Wild Force, and having Metal Alice and the Messenger, whom i would give him a different name and completely re-write as a different character, as the finally remain of the Machine Empire. I would develop the Rangers, even Troy and Gia, and Gosei be from Eltar where he is a huge fan of Zordon who seek to continue Zordon's legacy by continuing by creating his own team of Power Rangers. Also, i would has Tensou be based on Datas instead. I would add a crossover with Samurai where Master Xandred and Vrak fused together as a Alien/Nightlok hybrid and kidnap and brainwash Jayden to serve them where the two Ranger teams work together while Octoroo would be destroy by the time-travelling Power Rangers Pirate Force, an re-named version of Super Megaforce. Also, i would has the episode list has 40 episodes instead, while adding holiday specials, which are NOT clipshow specials! Also, i'm not ending the series on a cliffhanger. So, instead, i would end the series with the Rangers final fight with Vrak.

Appreciate what you were going for here, but this and it's sequel season... just...no, yes you can see throught he cracks to interesting things, but they almost never adress them in any meaningful way, and despite two seasons with the characters it feels like they never really grow, or sometimes grow only to immediately lose said growth, just an absolutely frustrating thing. I couldn't enjoy anybody on the team, and despite each episode calling out there names in the opening I don't remember any of their names. Honestly glad that we didn't have the people who ran this do an american version of kyuranger which maybe we'll see one day.
The reason why I put Megaforce above Samurai on my tier list of quality is because I feel like Megaforce is a failed attempt at something good. Whereas Samurai feels like abject laziness from the writer's room.
I think the main issue with these 2 seasons besides the obvious rush to the anniversary stuff, is that they were trying to be the original MMPR again, but only half heartedly. Rewatching the original MMPR now, the characters were idealized caricatures of goodness and whatnot and reminds me a lot of the Super Friends in that way. They don't really have to deal with the typical teenage kinda stuff, and seemingly spend all their time doing charity work and volunteer work. I see shades of this in Megaforce, but the main difference between the 2 is time. Times have changed from the 90's to today, as kids TV shows have evolved and are no longer pigeon holed into being "just for kids" and can tackle more adult and grown up themes in ways that kids today can relate and understand. So simply taking the MMPR formula and just putting it in modern day without updating it to said modern day kinda feels out of place. The other issue obviously, is time, but in a different sense as for some REALLY DUMB REASON, Nickelodeon has to have their seasons at 20 episodes. Because of that, these characters have no time to grow and evolve into anything, they are mostly the same characters at the beginning of the series as they are at the end. MMPR had 3 seasons and 145ish episodes to build upon the characters and actually, you know, give them character. I could see what they were trying to do with these seasons and it feels like a halfhearted attempt at best to recapture that lighting in a bottle that the original MMPR did.
After watching some of Beast Morphers they could of used a villain like Ryjack who collect all the past weapon of previous Villains of the series as the main bad guy of second season of Megaforce as a final goal to defeat the rangers to bring back a super power Lord Zed who kills Ryjack and he resurrect an unstoppable army and cue legendary Battle against Rangers and the forces of evil.
I’ve been so happy in the past five years or so to see a lot of you tubers moving away from the screaming nonsense “reviews” Into something that actually has some thought and care put behind it. Not to say those nonsense reviews can’t be funny but I appreciate when people go out of their way to put special care of something.
Megaforce was what got me back into PR after being away for along time. So have to give it some credit, but after watching in space, RPM, Lightspeed rescue and so forth, i can see that it isn't really that great
While I'm not here to pick apart the characters... For this to evolve into what it did with superMF... I would have love it it either atleast one of the rangers was a descendent of any of the legends as to they would have been around the same ages I believe of the first few seasons, or failed rangers from seasons that clearly define that there were those who tried and failed to be rangers.. If they made that work to me the evolution of everyone would have oddly seemed more smooth to me
I don't have a problem with the show, I have a problem with what the show didn't do. There are so many things it could have done but didn't because of various constraints. Because it was a Nickelodeon show they were FORCED to separate the show into two twenty episode seasons and while the idea to skip directly to the anniversary pirate Sentai was brought up it was also turned down. This meant they had too much time to fill over two years and had to churn out a meaningless season that led to an akward transition. (There is never an explanation about Jake's ranger key). Conversely, the individual seasons had too little time to work because they were only twenty episodes long which didn't give them a lot of time to create overarching plots, or leave them room for bottle episodes to do character development. The creative team, writers, producers, and directors for the two seasons felt pressured both by each other and lack of budget (this led to a lot of people quitting while the shows were being made which made things worse). There were ideas that were going to be implemented but weren't. I might have this wrong but off the top of my head, I think they were were going to tie up loose ends from Lost Galaxy, Lightsspeed Rescue, Timeforce, and Wildforce. Reuse parts of the old Hexagon plan, and bridge the Zordon, Saban, and Disney eras.(This is the original reason why Gosei was Zordon's pupil even though that didn't matter, never went anywhere, and was never mentioned after the first episode) Additionally, characters ideas for both legacy rangers and characters of the current season were cut . Billy was going to show up as their teacher, Conner would show up as part of his touring soccer camp for kids form SPD, Tommy was going to show up(obviously), Jason was going to show up in a "first ever ranger" moment, there were a lot of plans that didn't get used. While I can't remember all of the plans for Megaforce's characters I remember Orion was going to have a connection to 6th rangers in general which is what let him combine their ranger keys, and I think Ema was going to have a connection to wild force. The biggest loss here was Troy. Troy had an amazing backstory that was completely taken out of the show, with the only thing we have left of it being his anti-social personality. (I might be getting parts of this wrong but it's what I remember in broad strokes) Troy was supposed to be a troubled kid who became lonely after his father died. His mother remarried and his stepfather was a retired (either police or military) who insisted that he toughen up His troubles combined with the insistence of his physically demanding father led to him eventually learning martial arts to protect himself. While doing so, he learned to center himself and become an expert fighter but this led to him cutting himself off from the rest of the world. Troy retreating from the rest of the world led to people resenting him and growing to think he was arrogant because of his fighting skills. This gets so bad, his parents move him out of town to the city where Megaforce happens. Troy wishes for everything to go well and that he can gain understanding from people around him. Unbeknownst to Troy he has been connected to the morphing grid his while life. The morphing grid hears his wish and in preparation for the incoming alien invasion awakens Gosei while ensuring he would be chosen to lead the team. Simultaneously the grid begins sending him visions of the legendary battle so that he is subconsciously prepared for what is about to happen. When Troy morphs for the first time this was supposed to fully awaken his connection to the grid and lead to an ongoing chosen one storyline. The grid would form a nexus around Troy, which would cause a slow migration of rangers to the city so that they would all appear to him in his time of need (to set up the cameos in super Megaforce) and would give him an army when he needed it most (setting up the legendary battle). The entirety of this storyline in the show, is Troy not believing in people and randomly gaining the ability to go Super Saiyan out of nowhere when he punches RoboKnight. There were lesser character arcs for the other rangers too but they were also cut. So do I hate the show, no. The show is fine, okay, average as a kid's show. However, I hate that the show took such potential out of the world, that I can't forgive it for.
I will always be buyist because I watched this when I was young so I have a soft spot for it. But I'm just glad someone can see that this season for what it is wasn't all bad.
And that's what makes him uninteresting compared to other Reds, though I'm glad he's not those hot-blooded screaming Reds (Ban, Jan, Takaharu and Lucky). Personally, the last effectively written Red has been Yamato. He's more down-to-earth and in touch with reality. While he does display optimism, he never did show it in a manner that seems forced.
You're fine. I didn't really see much good in the Megaforce seasons until I rewatched Super Megaforce in 2019. On a side note, I loved Wild Force from day one!
Whenever it comes to Megaforce especially after it’s been 10 FREAKING YEARS since it aired, I grow a bit of a meme perspective on the season. Not really taking it seriously while also not focusing too hard on the negatives. Basically Megaforce is my Morbius.

I know you made a jokes about this however i have to ask, why not make the mutants in this season just a reborn version of Orgs who have returned after the death of their master almost a decade previously? I am not saying that they would do much with this concept but still that would be a more intresting aspect to the anniversary season that even SMF never achieved
Fairness where fairness is due, Megaforce is not without merit. I have a particular bone to pick with Megaforce because I haven't been excited for a season of PR since. I'm stating that not as an attack, but as an acknowledgement of where my bias lies, so that it may act as a lens with which to view everything else I say here. Let's start with the positive. All the characters are basically likable (even if Jake's pursuit of Gia has some bad implications in spots), and I honestly really like RoboKnight and Orion. I even agree, that scene with the shooting stars is probably the best of the season and I left that episode happy. Whatever flaws the season has on a macro level, it has a number of perfectly serviceable episodes that I derived some enjoyment out of. I theoretically like the interpretation of Troy as an introvert, though as an introvert myself, I find it difficult to connect with. The idea of humanity being something to believe in is somewhat refreshing, but I didn't see it challenged quite enough for it not to feel like a platitude. I don't need this season to be a brutal deconstruction of humanity's sins, but having someone in the Ranger cast be a little more cynical might have helped. Cynical like, say, Sokka from Avatar, where the cynicism doesn't make them an unlikable whiner every episode. Maybe that wouldn't work as well as I think, can't be sure. You have to account for how one change affects everything else, after all. But the point remains that I find the message, as presented, a touch eyeball-rolling. Perhaps that's simply my own cynicism talking. That said, there is clearly a bit more challenge to it than I recalled, as you pointed out, and I accept that as being better than I thought it was. I think what bothers me most is that it doesn't feel like a lot of Megaforce's problems were unsalvageable. There's clearly something there, that really could've shone had they been part of a better-written season. I try to judge what I get, as opposed to what I might have gotten, but for something like this it's rather hard for me to ignore. Really though, I think I'm past the point of actively hating Megaforce. Don't get me wrong, I'll probably take cheap potshots at it, because some punching bags feel really good on the knuckles, but too much time has passed, and it's just not worth it to get actively angry anymore.
I'm glad that you're willing to talk about this and admit that you were wrong in some areas, though a lot of more of your points seemed more correct than wrong to me. I'm glad that you're not just willing to jump on the "hate Megaforce" bandwagon, granted I enjoyed watching mindlessly tv program, but I never thought it was a masterpiece (In Space, Mighty Morphin', S.P.D, Time Force, Jungle Fury, Ninja Storm, etc...), but it was enjoyable at parts. Megaforce had so much potential but was squandered due to lack of character development mainly but I did like megaforce even though it annoyed me I love the part that they could use past rangers powers and I enjoyed that aspect. Even though megaforce was incredibly lackluster in my opinion it would always be remembered by the fanbase which is more than I can say about ninja steel
Honestly I DESPISED these seasons (I still do) but over the years I felt sorry for the actors due to them WANTING to put out their best effort but being blatantly ignored by Tzachor in favor of SENTAI👏 ONLY 👏 SUITS (I'm still not over that); I was really hoping for Hasbro to adapt the gokaiger and go busters team up just to give the megaforce actors some much needed justice.
J Smooth Soul Beats What are you even talking about? Dino Charge was the *best* show of the Neo Saban Era and Beast Morphers is an improvement over the Neo Saban Era as a whole. Megaforce isn’t even a Power Rangers season to its core, because of Jonathan Tzachor it just pulled from the plot of the Sentai while having zero identity of it’s own. Say what you will about Ninja Steel, and many have mind you, but it at least had the decency to not just rip-off the Sentai. Megaforce doesn’t get what makes Power Rangers work, it only emulates MMPR in superficial ways, and it says something that even the cast of the show was unsatisfied with the work done here, practically begging to do more than just fight scenes, and they were turned down every time.
ya know... both the goseiger toy line and the Megaforce toy line had legendary ranger cards. they could have simply filmed a stock scene with a green card and continued to use goseiger suits and footage alongside the legendary transformations from gokaiger instead of completely swapping over suits but ignoring the pirate theme entirely. easily could have just got rid of the pirate theme and kept the anniversary part just sayin
Here's the thing. Megaforce was my first season, so I have a soft spot in my heart for it, though I won't deny that it has a lot of faults. I loved Jake and Gia, and Orion's story, and a lot of things wrong with this season were due to the weird writing. I found Troy to be stilted and awkward, but maybe that's what he was meant to be. Either way, I'm trying to rewrite Megaforce in my own fashion and bring some more attention to the people behind the masks.
Don't kill me, I'm being honest with my opinion. I love Megaforce. It's the first season I watched whole. I was able to watch other seasons before I discovered Netflix when I was a kid but only two episodes from Operation Overdrive, Jungle Fury and SPD because the network was crazy and took them out of the scheduele
I think of Megaforce/Super Megaforce as a good example of wasted potential. I don't love it, but I don't hate it either. It's fun for me to see shows, seasons, movies, etc. like this because you get to imagine what could've been and find little details or things that the project did provide that other people may not have caught. So, I appreciate this deeper dive and more positive take on Megaforce. Because I do like the cast, and there are some aspects to like about the series despite its flaws.
One thing I think you always overlook is the way each team fights. Alone or together when fights happen it's the rangers actions that show who they are. Maybe that's obvious for you or perhaps you don't think the fighting is worth talking about but watch the share weapons in super and tell us what you think

Wow Thanks for this I just got done watching like 8 episodes of Megaforce and came out with nothing but genuine hate towards the show. But now, I see that I just didn't watch enough of it before deciding to quit. Although I still hate the show, I now see why one might like it. Just like Samurai (for me at least), it got better with time. Megaforce just needed a little more time to get better and I didn't give it that time. Maybe, I'll go back to it and finish it when I feel like I can stomach it.
While I hate Megaforce primarily due to some of its staff members not understanding what makes a good Power Rangers season (twice over mind you) among other reasons, I always knew when there were good aspects and acknowledge them. For what it's worth, Megaforce was not a good season...but it had a deep potential to be good if you read between the lines at the intentions of the characters and certain plot points. And frankly, while my opinion hasn't changed, I appreciate the added perspective on the characters I've lacked up until now.
This wasn't a well made season, but they had so many good ideas here. It feels like they actually tried to do something, compared to Dino Supercharge and the Ninja Steel seasons, which were just so stale and uninspiring.

I define Megaforce as a missed opportunity, they could have made a group of teenagers learning to be rangers in training, working hard and improving their skills as protectors of the world and understanding the importance of being a ranger (Goseiger), and then making them understand the importance of the legacy and the passing of generations and how the new generation is a mirror of the old in a certain way, but still being something different (Gokaiger)
Megaforce lived more in "what can be" than really being something distinctive, and that, to me, is the most disappointing thing about the show

@Bear Purple Kate turns out old Johnny Tzachor was the reason for all this. Anytime Bates tried to develop them beyond planks of wood that make the character from Ed Ed and Eddy seem nuanced, Tzachor ripped him a new asshole over it. We can't have character development; we need 98 fight scenes in this one episode. It got to the point that Bates just outright quit after "Spirit of the Tiger." It's why Megaforce was much better in comparison (Bates oversaw it and had a tiny bit of control) and Super Megaforce goes downhill into a volcano with Orion's introduction and beyond.

Also, for those curious, I will not be getting rid of my first Megaforce review, because I still think as shitposts go, it’s decently entertaining. And what’s more, it happens to mean a lot to many ardent viewers of mine. It also works as a good point of comparison from where I was to where I am as a UA-cam video person.

One of the biggest weaknesses of Megaforce, no matter how many concepts it tries to cook up, is the pacing. The pacing outright sucks. Instead of using the Sentai footage to their advantage, we just get fight scene padding. Super Megaforce is where things get absolutely absurd with their Sentai footage padding. You can see why Megaforce is less hated compared to Super Megaforce. We got less padding (oh but it certainly exists. See Gosei Ultimate and the Messenger for the worst examples). Anyone can create a cool concept. It takes skill, budget, and support to execute those concepts well.
As a kid, I positively worshipped Megaforce because I thought the idea of the legendary battle and them being able to access the powers of past rangers was perhaps the best concept of fan service that the show writers could ever come up with. But as I became a teenager and discovered the internet, I found out that a lot of people really hate it which, btw, not really surprised there. Even as a kid, I saw the faults in the shallow character writing and disappointing climaxes (ie. legendary battle) especially when compared to the past era which gave us gems like RPM and Jungle Fury. But as characters, I don't think there's really anything bad about them on surface level. I think the biggest problem that fans actually have with this show is how disappointing it was. There's barely an ounce of character development and even the fan service cameos aren't done right and have very little impact on the bigger story. Personally, I think that neo-saban era dumbed power rangers down too much into being nothing but a kids show when that is clearly not the case as seen in more mature plot points handled in past seasons. They just wasted so much potential.
Love what you did with the video though. I hope this can open more conversations about Megaforce in a slightly better light. I can barely ever tolerate actually watching Megaforce these days because of how cringey the writing and the acting is most of the time but it has a special place in my heart and I can never really hate it. I love reading fanfictions about it though. I love to see various plot points expanded and explored in ways that canon should have but never did.

Noticed how DB didn't say he actually liked the season or that it still isn't in his bottom 3 Seasons. I do agree with him on Troy. While he doesn't have Andros or Wes character potential, he easily could have been the best Red out of the Neo-Saban era.
You know I wonder what would’ve happened if Disney never gave up on power rangers & they continued to adapt after RPM. I wonder what there version of shinkenger would be like🤔I know that they definitely would’ve gave both goseiger & gokaiger a good adaptation. In once a ranger they actually played the theme song for each ranger season which gokaiger did the same when ever they changed. Tbh, Wild Force always been mixed to well received by fans. And it even has a smaller fanbase than even Ninja Storm to be honest.
I remember liking Wild Force as a kid for two reasons. One was the many Zord combinations, always found that fun and made me more interested in the Zord battles than any other season before it. Two was the dynamic between Master Org and Cole. Those two truly did have the dynamic of super hero vs his super villain arch enemy, because of their backstory.
Oh and I liked Zen-Aku.

I believe super mega force should have been its own series. Rather than a normal "super" season, Mega force ends with the original team being captured and roboknight being destroyed. So Gosei is forced to bring together a new team, wielding the powers of past rangers.
yes, Gokaiger deserved a full adaptation of it's own instead of being crammed onto Goseiger's as just the Super half. And omfg how could they not even bother to TRY doing GokaiChristmas? They shoehorn in lame clip episodes for Christmas and Halloween every year but when they have an actual Christmas Ranger they don't bother? Thank Zordon Hasbro seems to be smarter & more considerate of the franchise than Saban was after getting the rights back from Disney....
They could've simply sacrificed their zords and powers in order to defeat Vrak while Gosei and tensou(maybe) could've died when base gets overrun by gokaiger footsoldiers that way rangers could have gone in search for the pirate powers and ranger key chest and gosei's demise could also explain team' new no nonsense attitudes

@Aman Patel hell, there was even a Zord fight that went unused in "Vrak is Back" where they defeat Vrak with Ultra Gosei Great. If you're wondering, it most likely went unused because it very prominently features Datas (Tensou's equivalent) in his Zord form which was never adapted into Power Rangers due to Nickelodeon's bullshit.
The deep analysis videos you’ve done on this series is really good, I personally grew up watching samurai,mega force and Dino charge and I love them all equally. I know growing up with certain seasons can make a person biased and each three of those seasons had a lot of flaws but I love them regardless

Megaforce kind of still holds a special place in my heart despite its poor quality mainly because it was the first season I consistently sat down and watched when I was younger.
It's kind of a guilty pleasure now to be honest, I know it's not a great season, but I just can't bring myself to hate it or anyone involved in it.

Surprisingly, this is the thing I noticed too when I saw two to three episodes of megaforce as they were being recasted recently in my country.
Their optimism and ability to see things for what it is, ignoring the outer skin, is commendable. All of them are actually too mature and ideal which is good but then it is unreal because no teenager is all mature and ideal.

I've found the whole Roboknight performing rap moment neat when watching since it was a sweet moment where he embraced the modern world and their culture. The fact that this happened after he went to a library stood out to me.
Also the Rico episode which while from what I've heard is directly pulled from Goseiger fits a bit more with the fact that Roboknight is actually a machine that they can use as an example of a non-evil machine.
While I wouldn't say Megaforce is amazing. (It's admittedly a bit lower on my tier) at the end of the day it's a harmless watch for kids to see. There isn't anything actually insulting that is a bad message to kids that I recall. Wish it wasn't compared to their sentai varients in level of potential when it just has their own identity for better or worse.
Also I wish to add this cast is nice. The fact that they're so chill and willing to go to morphicon even if not necessary kinda makes em' probably one of my favs.
Roboknight rapping was single handedly the absolute fucking worse moment in all of power rangers history. The amount of just fucking cringe was fucking unbearable and it made me stop being sober after 7 years.

The worst to me is either "we have to hit her in the right spot, above the heart, where memories are kept" (yes, that's an actual line from MMPR Season 3's "Chimp in Charge") or Clean-Up Club's "It looks totally far out and funky down the drain dude." The fact I’ve spent as much time as I have on what I would’ve done with both seasons shows that Megaforce had the potential to be so much more than it was, but the higher ups never gave it the chance to be
I too had a lot of good ideas as to what it could've been. It had a lot of trial & error, & I came up with something interesting. So instead of an utter rewrite it would have a IN universe reason to set rewrite & it ironically starts with a bad guy wanting to destroy them.
Ah yes, a positive Megaforce review. About time. Aside from Noah experiencing self doubt, the humanity concept was something I enjoyed. Especially the Dream Snatchers episode, where it’s on full display that dreams and ambitions are what drive and empower us to give something our all. When I’m feeling down or feel like quitting or giving up, I tend to go to the episode and just watch as specifically the musician gets back up and continues to play. That, or I go find the Goseiger opening. Actually, even “Earth Fights Back” in Super Megaforce says that we humans will never back down, that our endurance in the face of adversity is a sign of our strength. Edit (10/12/2020) - I can't believe I missed the fact that Emma lost her mother. Did anyone else miss that? It's in the episode where she sings to the flowers, and Dischord (is that his name) is in. With her next season being the one to most try to connect to Orion after he's lost his village, it certainly gives her perspective.
I think we have already established that Megaforce and to some extent Super Megaforce had some good themes,concepts and ideas, I mean look at this Insectoids, Mutants and robots as villains and if they bothered to add Basco to the mix then it would have a humanoid villain too, then we have two 6th rangers both with pretty interesting backgrounds and Orion had a full on Andros thing going on for him if it was handled well, then there's Noah with the self doubts and Jake trying to be chill but not being able to handle it and Troy burdened with the responsibility of leading the team,decoding his dream and finally the past ranger cameos ,all at the same time , just imagine how awesome the two seasons could have been if handled more competently
Definitely interesting. Megaforce(and Super) have never been seasons I liked really. But you bring up some good points and sometime down the road(maybe sooner than later) I want to rewatch it again. I'll have to keep this, and your upcoming Super, video in mind when I do.
Well said, if this was written better, Mega Force would indeed be known as it having the most compassionate rangers ever. Basically goodie goods with depth. Plus learning important things like, Fight for the earth [& its environment] see those for who they are & not what they are & overcome the odds & adversity. Among other such lessons.

Not sure if you'll get to it next video, but your take on Troy and Robo Knight's relationship kinda gives greater context to that "You have a mission to fulfill" line. It's as if Troy was so emotional in that moment because the one thing he and Robo Knight shared that made their thematic relationship work (the "mission first" attitude) had gotten taken away when Robo got hijacked

The Morphin Grid has never been shown to do what you claim, it’s a multiversal energy field that gives all Rangers their powers, it has never been shown to do what your suggesting. Gem and Gemma were just lucky and gotten the morphers in time to get of the place, which wasn’t impossible as their deaths weren’t even confirmed. The show doesn’t even imply anything about how Robo Knight survived. The *real* reason Robo Knight came back suddenly was because the writers just weren’t trying this season.

Taken on it's own, or without the anniversary crap and just judged on it's own merits, Super Megaforce is mediocre except for the acting. We pan the writing of Megaforce but it wasn't much worse than much of Samurai or the later Dino Charge. Turbo is, especially in the early episodes, objectively terrible. It's better than Megaforce considering it wasn't supposed to homage the past but it did almost kill the franchise until In Space saved it. Unpopular Opinion #2; I honestly think In Space is pretty terrible and only worked as it was the best up to that point. Bar certain episodes, it really doesn't hold up to me. Why? Amongst other thing, Andros' acting, the fact that the praised plot about Astronema takes 27 episodes to go anywhere beyond "Darkonda stole Karone," and the monsters were lackluster at best. And let's not even talk about Grandma Matchmaker or The Rangers' Mega Voyage (unless you're curious.) It's got less bad episodes than Turbo but it's lows are far lower than Turbo's lows.
Since the theme revolves around them having the Knowledge of the old rangers, it would have been nice if pressure was put to them for living up to the old ranger names
Wild Force, Samurai, and RPM are the series I grew up with, so seeing Jaden, the Eagle Zord, and Red Lion in Megaforce had me squealing like a little girl
This is actually one of my favorite seasons and I think my introduction to Power Rangers as a whole IIRC
Needless to say, it was Vrak, Noah, Rico and Robo Knight that became my favorite characters of this season.
If Megaforce did one thing it motivated me to start watching Super Sentai. From there I started Kamen Rider and haven't looked back since.

Honestly, Megaforce’s first half is a lot better upon a rewatch, as you can get a grasp some of the themes and some ideas that got a bit of development. It’s a lot like Samurai in that way. I feel the Pirate Series wasn’t suppose to be adapted and the OG Megaforce Idea was going to take up the entire series, but didn’t, these ideas could have been developed further, but they got cramped into the last 4 episodes to started the Pirate stuff

Even after watching this video I still think both seasons are trash. DB mentioned so much of it's themes and intentions but it's al poorly written and fall flat on almost every level. When they stopped teleporting, no real explanation was given to why this was. Imagine the rangers ask about it and Gosei keeps changing the subject. Eventually it revealed there no way to repair the tech and either he feels shame in letting them down or disappointed in being unable to maintain a certain mentor image. Or how about how something they were entrusted by Zordon is useless now? Would have been a stand out moment for Gosei and tie into how all those keys, zords and so many other things were inherited to them. Gosei could speak more about Zordon once they opened up about that and explain why the teleporter being broken was such a big deal to them.
For anyone wondering who James Bates is, you might know him as the guy who made Robo Knight rap, the mastermind behind the crappy Super Megaforce opener of the same name, and the guy who made Robo Knight evil and killed Vrak.
Unpopular opinion, I have a personal love for Megaforce and the character of Troy especially. He help me realize how much morality is to me as a person and on top of that, help me slowly overcome my own preference to remain introverted. Granted I still struggle with those feelings but I'm more willing to accept and strive to change instead of remaining in the rut I ended up placing myself in. Troy as a character helped me in so many ways and I glad I stumbled upon this video.
Did not mind megaforce as we all knew it was never going to be good. We just watched it as we felt obligated to watch a few episode because we grew up on power rangers. Super Megaforce on the other hand has no excuse. It took a huge dump on fans like me who grew up in the 90s watching EVERY episode as it aired from MMPR to around Mystic force. It failed to do what an anniversary season is supposed to do and that is to honor everything that got it to this point. For example they morphed into more sentai only teams than power ranger teams ! Like WTF?!!!! How is this honoring the legacy of power rangers when more than half of the rangers used have no legacy!! Super megaforce did not care about its long standing fans and even worse, they did not care about their own franchise! If they don’t care then why the hell should we? As far as I’m concerned, as well as many others of my generation, power rangers ended at Mystic force with RPM and jungle fury being “bonus dlc” everything else is filler.

@Jeric Binuya. Power rangers has been around for so many years that the fandom is divided. The people who watched from the beginning should be around 30 now and to those megaforce is seen very poorly. Then there are those who started watched it when Disney took over who I kinda in the middle. Then the ones who started in the nick era who love it.

ANO No that’s not true, most people just don’t like Megaforce, it’s not even just a “portion” of the fandom who hated it, it’s everyone by a large majority, it was never positively received. I watched Megaforce when I was younger and I walked away with not much attachment to the series. To this day I actually like Jungle Fury more than I ever did Megaforce, probably because that show actually had character development and the characters had depth. The Neo Saban Era as a whole is disliked by many in the fandom, largely because we seen infinitely better in *both previous eras.* Samurai and Megaforce suffered for similar reasons. The acting was bad, the plots are weak, usually just pulled straight from the Sentai, and the writers in general seem to be putting very minimal effort. It’s worth noting that Jonathan Tzachor is to blame for this as the cast and the staffs of Megaforce actually had ideas to make Megaforce more creative and have more development but he shot those down. It really says something when, once free of their contracts to Saban due to them expiring, the cast of Megaforce itself openly express their own criticisms with it, namely how they practically begged to do more than fight scenes but were shot down every time. When not even the *ACTORS* liked the season they performed in, you know it’s not just a average show, it was just a bad one.
I still want to see Troy attempt to embody Captain Marvelous's personality, especially if Hasbro does adapt zyuogher.

So, my hot take is that troy is one of my favorite rangers. I am an introvert who is blatantly socially awkward. Seeing him be able to succeed without "growing out" of these traits is inspiring.

They should have skipped Goseiger and just done an entire show based on Gokaiger.
It still wouldn't have been fantastic but it would have been better.
Allegedly, Saban wanted to skip right to Gokaiger because of the anniversary, but Nick wouldn't allow them to skip any series, and they had to stay on the "super" season plan. What ended up happening (allegedly) was they rushed to the finish line on Goseiger, but they were so tired and frustrated by the time it was time for Gokaiger that they just decided to use as much sentai footage as possible.

Goseiger is one of my favorite Sentai seasons i've seen, Megaforce stepped all over it. it's why i have issues with Megaforce/Super Megaforce (cause Gokaiger is awesome too)

I can't wait to see what you do with super megaforce. I feel like that season in particular is worth digging into because not only of the decision to step away from the pirate theme, but also because it incorporated one team of rangers as two different sentai adaptations, at the same time. I don't know exactly how to feel about that but I do believe its worth discussing. I also feel as if super megaforce handled bringing on Orion as super megaforce silver, but that they didn't really do him well in the story itself. They could've done so much more with his character and they didn't. Super megaforce feels to me to be the season of Ignored Potential more than anything else, even more than the sentai/pr anniversary season it was. I recently watched Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger and honestly? There's some things I liked super megaforce better for. I know, quite the hot take. But the way they brought on Gai as compared to bringing on Orion really didn't feel as right to me. I mean sure, they wanted somebody local and a super sentai fan gai's character really meshed better with the story gokaiger was telling than orion did, but i'm unsure as to which i prefer as a character.

I’m probably going to get hate from this, but when I came back to Power Rangers this was the season I watched. It was the newest at the time & I loved every single episode. I didn’t see any flaws until I started watching reviews on Megaforce & I was felt bad for liking this season a lot like I do RPM, but now after seeing this video I’d like to thank you Disney Brain for making me not as bad anymore.
I really do like this season of Power Rangers & Goseiger is equally as good. Please don’t bash me for this...This is my opinion. I really enjoyed Megaforce despite what people say as their flaws & Yes, I did start watching Power Rangers from the very beginning.

Wow I was one of the few people who watched it a the time of release and I still enjoy for the great season it is, I think that super mega force was the superior if the two since mega force was a bit slow at times but it was still good, I do remember seeing some episodes of samurai which kickstarted my interest into the franchise but it was super mega force that got me to love it. I also liked how they would use the abilities of the past rangers and train with their new abilities rather than what dino charge did with the energems since they don't need any training and also with the over reliance of new powerangers
i know nobody is going to see this, but thank you. after your Megaforce vid I lost a lot of faith in this very nostalgic series cuz I couldn't defend it. but you have given me a way to love it for something again. so even if nobody sees this, thank you for saving Megaforce for me.

If i had to re-write Megaforce, the Goseiger adaption, i would has the Rangers be live in Angel Grove and students at Angel Grove High instead and rename Megaforce as Power Rangers Star Guards.
I would have the Warstar be the last remaining of Scorpius' insectoid army, the Toxic Mutants be related to either the Mutants, from Time Force, or the Orgs, from Wild Force, and having Metal Alice and the Messenger, whom i would give him a different name and completely re-write as a different character, as the finally remain of the Machine Empire.
I would develop the Rangers, even Troy and Gia, and Gosei be from Eltar where he is a huge fan of Zordon who seek to continue Zordon's legacy by continuing by creating his own team of Power Rangers. Also, i would has Tensou be based on Datas instead.
I would add a crossover with Samurai where Master Xandred and Vrak fused together as a Alien/Nightlok hybrid and kidnap and brainwash Jayden to serve them where the two Ranger teams work together while Octoroo would be destroy by the time-travelling Power Rangers Pirate Force, an re-named version of Super Megaforce.
Also, i would has the episode list has 40 episodes instead, while adding holiday specials, which are NOT clipshow specials! Also, i'm not ending the series on a cliffhanger. So, instead, i would end the series with the Rangers final fight with Vrak.

Appreciate what you were going for here, but this and it's sequel season... just...no, yes you can see throught he cracks to interesting things, but they almost never adress them in any meaningful way, and despite two seasons with the characters it feels like they never really grow, or sometimes grow only to immediately lose said growth, just an absolutely frustrating thing. I couldn't enjoy anybody on the team, and despite each episode calling out there names in the opening I don't remember any of their names. Honestly glad that we didn't have the people who ran this do an american version of kyuranger which maybe we'll see one day.
The reason why I put Megaforce above Samurai on my tier list of quality is because I feel like Megaforce is a failed attempt at something good. Whereas Samurai feels like abject laziness from the writer's room.

I think the main issue with these 2 seasons besides the obvious rush to the anniversary stuff, is that they were trying to be the original MMPR again, but only half heartedly. Rewatching the original MMPR now, the characters were idealized caricatures of goodness and whatnot and reminds me a lot of the Super Friends in that way. They don't really have to deal with the typical teenage kinda stuff, and seemingly spend all their time doing charity work and volunteer work. I see shades of this in Megaforce, but the main difference between the 2 is time. Times have changed from the 90's to today, as kids TV shows have evolved and are no longer pigeon holed into being "just for kids" and can tackle more adult and grown up themes in ways that kids today can relate and understand. So simply taking the MMPR formula and just putting it in modern day without updating it to said modern day kinda feels out of place.
The other issue obviously, is time, but in a different sense as for some REALLY DUMB REASON, Nickelodeon has to have their seasons at 20 episodes. Because of that, these characters have no time to grow and evolve into anything, they are mostly the same characters at the beginning of the series as they are at the end. MMPR had 3 seasons and 145ish episodes to build upon the characters and actually, you know, give them character. I could see what they were trying to do with these seasons and it feels like a halfhearted attempt at best to recapture that lighting in a bottle that the original MMPR did.
After watching some of Beast Morphers they could of used a villain like Ryjack who collect all the past weapon of previous Villains of the series as the main bad guy of second season of Megaforce as a final goal to defeat the rangers to bring back a super power Lord Zed who kills Ryjack and he resurrect an unstoppable army and cue legendary Battle against Rangers and the forces of evil.
I’ve been so happy in the past five years or so to see a lot of you tubers moving away from the screaming nonsense “reviews” Into something that actually has some thought and care put behind it. Not to say those nonsense reviews can’t be funny but I appreciate when people go out of their way to put special care of something.
Megaforce was what got me back into PR after being away for along time. So have to give it some credit, but after watching in space, RPM, Lightspeed rescue and so forth, i can see that it isn't really that great

While I'm not here to pick apart the characters... For this to evolve into what it did with superMF... I would have love it it either atleast one of the rangers was a descendent of any of the legends as to they would have been around the same ages I believe of the first few seasons, or failed rangers from seasons that clearly define that there were those who tried and failed to be rangers..
If they made that work to me the evolution of everyone would have oddly seemed more smooth to me
I don't have a problem with the show, I have a problem with what the show didn't do. There are so many things it could have done but didn't because of various constraints. Because it was a Nickelodeon show they were FORCED to separate the show into two twenty episode seasons and while the idea to skip directly to the anniversary pirate Sentai was brought up it was also turned down. This meant they had too much time to fill over two years and had to churn out a meaningless season that led to an akward transition. (There is never an explanation about Jake's ranger key). Conversely, the individual seasons had too little time to work because they were only twenty episodes long which didn't give them a lot of time to create overarching plots, or leave them room for bottle episodes to do character development. The creative team, writers, producers, and directors for the two seasons felt pressured both by each other and lack of budget (this led to a lot of people quitting while the shows were being made which made things worse). There were ideas that were going to be implemented but weren't. I might have this wrong but off the top of my head, I think they were were going to tie up loose ends from Lost Galaxy, Lightsspeed Rescue, Timeforce, and Wildforce. Reuse parts of the old Hexagon plan, and bridge the Zordon, Saban, and Disney eras.(This is the original reason why Gosei was Zordon's pupil even though that didn't matter, never went anywhere, and was never mentioned after the first episode) Additionally, characters ideas for both legacy rangers and characters of the current season were cut . Billy was going to show up as their teacher, Conner would show up as part of his touring soccer camp for kids form SPD, Tommy was going to show up(obviously), Jason was going to show up in a "first ever ranger" moment, there were a lot of plans that didn't get used. While I can't remember all of the plans for Megaforce's characters I remember Orion was going to have a connection to 6th rangers in general which is what let him combine their ranger keys, and I think Ema was going to have a connection to wild force. The biggest loss here was Troy. Troy had an amazing backstory that was completely taken out of the show, with the only thing we have left of it being his anti-social personality. (I might be getting parts of this wrong but it's what I remember in broad strokes) Troy was supposed to be a troubled kid who became lonely after his father died. His mother remarried and his stepfather was a retired (either police or military) who insisted that he toughen up His troubles combined with the insistence of his physically demanding father led to him eventually learning martial arts to protect himself. While doing so, he learned to center himself and become an expert fighter but this led to him cutting himself off from the rest of the world. Troy retreating from the rest of the world led to people resenting him and growing to think he was arrogant because of his fighting skills. This gets so bad, his parents move him out of town to the city where Megaforce happens. Troy wishes for everything to go well and that he can gain understanding from people around him. Unbeknownst to Troy he has been connected to the morphing grid his while life. The morphing grid hears his wish and in preparation for the incoming alien invasion awakens Gosei while ensuring he would be chosen to lead the team. Simultaneously the grid begins sending him visions of the legendary battle so that he is subconsciously prepared for what is about to happen. When Troy morphs for the first time this was supposed to fully awaken his connection to the grid and lead to an ongoing chosen one storyline. The grid would form a nexus around Troy, which would cause a slow migration of rangers to the city so that they would all appear to him in his time of need (to set up the cameos in super Megaforce) and would give him an army when he needed it most (setting up the legendary battle). The entirety of this storyline in the show, is Troy not believing in people and randomly gaining the ability to go Super Saiyan out of nowhere when he punches RoboKnight. There were lesser character arcs for the other rangers too but they were also cut. So do I hate the show, no. The show is fine, okay, average as a kid's show. However, I hate that the show took such potential out of the world, that I can't forgive it for.
I will always be buyist because I watched this when I was young so I have a soft spot for it. But I'm just glad someone can see that this season for what it is wasn't all bad.

And that's what makes him uninteresting compared to other Reds, though I'm glad he's not those hot-blooded screaming Reds (Ban, Jan, Takaharu and Lucky).
Personally, the last effectively written Red has been Yamato. He's more down-to-earth and in touch with reality. While he does display optimism, he never did show it in a manner that seems forced.

Whenever it comes to Megaforce especially after it’s been 10 FREAKING YEARS since it aired, I grow a bit of a meme perspective on the season. Not really taking it seriously while also not focusing too hard on the negatives.

Fairness where fairness is due, Megaforce is not without merit. I have a particular bone to pick with Megaforce because I haven't been excited for a season of PR since. I'm stating that not as an attack, but as an acknowledgement of where my bias lies, so that it may act as a lens with which to view everything else I say here.
Let's start with the positive. All the characters are basically likable (even if Jake's pursuit of Gia has some bad implications in spots), and I honestly really like RoboKnight and Orion. I even agree, that scene with the shooting stars is probably the best of the season and I left that episode happy. Whatever flaws the season has on a macro level, it has a number of perfectly serviceable episodes that I derived some enjoyment out of.
I theoretically like the interpretation of Troy as an introvert, though as an introvert myself, I find it difficult to connect with. The idea of humanity being something to believe in is somewhat refreshing, but I didn't see it challenged quite enough for it not to feel like a platitude. I don't need this season to be a brutal deconstruction of humanity's sins, but having someone in the Ranger cast be a little more cynical might have helped. Cynical like, say, Sokka from Avatar, where the cynicism doesn't make them an unlikable whiner every episode. Maybe that wouldn't work as well as I think, can't be sure. You have to account for how one change affects everything else, after all. But the point remains that I find the message, as presented, a touch eyeball-rolling. Perhaps that's simply my own cynicism talking. That said, there is clearly a bit more challenge to it than I recalled, as you pointed out, and I accept that as being better than I thought it was.
I think what bothers me most is that it doesn't feel like a lot of Megaforce's problems were unsalvageable. There's clearly something there, that really could've shone had they been part of a better-written season. I try to judge what I get, as opposed to what I might have gotten, but for something like this it's rather hard for me to ignore.
Really though, I think I'm past the point of actively hating Megaforce. Don't get me wrong, I'll probably take cheap potshots at it, because some punching bags feel really good on the knuckles, but too much time has passed, and it's just not worth it to get actively angry anymore.
I'm glad that you're willing to talk about this and admit that you were wrong in some areas, though a lot of more of your points seemed more correct than wrong to me. I'm glad that you're not just willing to jump on the "hate Megaforce" bandwagon, granted I enjoyed watching mindlessly tv program, but I never thought it was a masterpiece (In Space, Mighty Morphin', S.P.D, Time Force, Jungle Fury, Ninja Storm, etc...), but it was enjoyable at parts. Back to the beginning, it was nice to see you own up to your mistake, and willing to make up for it. Thank you, I love your videos, I love watching them.
Megaforce had so much potential but was squandered due to lack of character development mainly but I did like megaforce even though it annoyed me I love the part that they could use past rangers powers and I enjoyed that aspect. Even though megaforce was incredibly lackluster in my opinion it would always be remembered by the fanbase which is more than I can say about ninja steel
I was born in this era of mega force and even as a six year old i had to go back to start to enjoy the series
Honestly I DESPISED these seasons (I still do) but over the years I felt sorry for the actors due to them WANTING to put out their best effort but being blatantly ignored by Tzachor in favor of SENTAI👏 ONLY 👏 SUITS (I'm still not over that); I was really hoping for Hasbro to adapt the gokaiger and go busters team up just to give the megaforce actors some much needed justice.

J Smooth Soul Beats What are you even talking about? Dino Charge was the *best* show of the Neo Saban Era and Beast Morphers is an improvement over the Neo Saban Era as a whole. Megaforce isn’t even a Power Rangers season to its core, because of Jonathan Tzachor it just pulled from the plot of the Sentai while having zero identity of it’s own. Say what you will about Ninja Steel, and many have mind you, but it at least had the decency to not just rip-off the Sentai. Megaforce doesn’t get what makes Power Rangers work, it only emulates MMPR in superficial ways, and it says something that even the cast of the show was unsatisfied with the work done here, practically begging to do more than just fight scenes, and they were turned down every time.

ya know... both the goseiger toy line and the Megaforce toy line had legendary ranger cards. they could have simply filmed a stock scene with a green card and continued to use goseiger suits and footage alongside the legendary transformations from gokaiger instead of completely swapping over suits but ignoring the pirate theme entirely. easily could have just got rid of the pirate theme and kept the anniversary part just sayin

Here's the thing. Megaforce was my first season, so I have a soft spot in my heart for it, though I won't deny that it has a lot of faults. I loved Jake and Gia, and Orion's story, and a lot of things wrong with this season were due to the weird writing. I found Troy to be stilted and awkward, but maybe that's what he was meant to be. Either way, I'm trying to rewrite Megaforce in my own fashion and bring some more attention to the people behind the masks.
Don't kill me, I'm being honest with my opinion. I love Megaforce. It's the first season I watched whole. I was able to watch other seasons before I discovered Netflix when I was a kid but only two episodes from Operation Overdrive, Jungle Fury and SPD because the network was crazy and took them out of the scheduele

I think of Megaforce/Super Megaforce as a good example of wasted potential. I don't love it, but I don't hate it either. It's fun for me to see shows, seasons, movies, etc. like this because you get to imagine what could've been and find little details or things that the project did provide that other people may not have caught. So, I appreciate this deeper dive and more positive take on Megaforce. Because I do like the cast, and there are some aspects to like about the series despite its flaws.
One thing I think you always overlook is the way each team fights. Alone or together when fights happen it's the rangers actions that show who they are. Maybe that's obvious for you or perhaps you don't think the fighting is worth talking about but watch the share weapons in super and tell us what you think

I hope the next video will share how Troy actually showed emotion it's just that no one ever saw the episode.

I just got done watching like 8 episodes of Megaforce and came out with nothing but genuine hate towards the show.
But now, I see that I just didn't watch enough of it before deciding to quit.
Although I still hate the show, I now see why one might like it. Just like Samurai (for me at least), it got better with time. Megaforce just needed a little more time to get better and I didn't give it that time.
Maybe, I'll go back to it and finish it when I feel like I can stomach it.
While I hate Megaforce primarily due to some of its staff members not understanding what makes a good Power Rangers season (twice over mind you) among other reasons, I always knew when there were good aspects and acknowledge them. For what it's worth, Megaforce was not a good season...but it had a deep potential to be good if you read between the lines at the intentions of the characters and certain plot points. And frankly, while my opinion hasn't changed, I appreciate the added perspective on the characters I've lacked up until now.
This wasn't a well made season, but they had so many good ideas here. It feels like they actually tried to do something, compared to Dino Supercharge and the Ninja Steel seasons, which were just so stale and uninspiring.
Yes! I hate it when people make snarky comments and refuse to talk about something in-depth, but I'm so used to Megaforce hate that I didn't even notice it in your original review.
