The best way to describe Ninja Steel is “safe”. They only do what they need, appeal to the kids and leaves nothing for those who love and understand Power rangers . My opinion of Ninja Steel is that it’s okay. Not bad, not that good either. Oh and I love your idea about Preston needing a ride to school, that scene would have added a lot!
I agree, it would have made a great first scene. Thinking about it now, they also could have added an overbearing mom scene for Sarah at the same time, and maybe their initial connection is, hey we both have parents that are a little bit much. Not really that hard to do.
At this point, you should honestly be picked up as a writer for the Power Rangers Franchise and given the helm of a season or two. Or atleast an editor or historical expert that is allowed to make changes to the script prior to filming.
My biggest complaint about Ninja Steel is the premature resolution. Here’s an example: Dino Charge waited a patient 25 episodes to reunite Tyler with his long-lost father. Ninja Steel stuffed three such family reunions into just 20 episodes.
Kyle Stubbs I got bored of the long wait before family reunions after the Andros/Astronema situation in power rangers in space. 😒 I wanted Karone as a ranger in in Space instead of Lost Galaxy.
Sean Wilson Andros was forlorn about losing Karone ever since the beginning, and tried to reconnect with her the moment it was clear she became Astronema. They needed to build up that plot because family is important. The only times I’ve seen Brody talk about his family are in episodes where he’s lost them, found them, or thinks he’s found them. For a matter as important as a long-lost father and brother, I don’t think that’s often enough.
NEW Intro Hype!! Also, I'm sorry for not having responded to and/or read all the BEST Team comments as of yet. It's taking awhile for the best possible reason: you guys went above and beyond and delivered some amazing stories/scenarios. That said, I will, eventually, get to them all!
The Disney Brain I'm starting to make videos & have my own channel my latest vid is top 10 ranger themes & i would appreciate It if u checked it out (Sorry for the bad vid quality I will fix it in the future) I would love some feed back from a great UA-camr like u
I wasn't able to watch the entire season when it first aired but the episode when the brothers played that song? I CRIED. FEELS. It gave me that same feeling I got when Andros and his sister were reunited.
I think that 1 of the biggest issues with the Neo-Saban era has got to be the fact that Haim Saban and everyone he has attached to the series has no respect for the audience. Nickelodeon is as much a network for teens as it is for kids. Children are very capable of watching heavier shows even if some of the themes fly over their heads. G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero is a prime example of that. The Neo-Saban era has thus far often times chosen to cater to the youngest common denominator, by which I mean the children that are also tuned into Nick to watch Paw Patrol. This is evident by their goofy, disjointed stories and plotlines. Now as far as why Sarah gets so much screen time. Putting it simply, she is NOT unattractive and when you also consider my previous comment about teenagers...well I believe you have your answer there. All in all, Ninja Steel isn't terrible but it also isn't good. It's just there, even with few bright spots the show has had. In the long run it's just another example of how the Neo-Saban era continues to undervalue it's audience. Imo, of course
LOLOL, Paw Patrol!! Pretty spot on point regarding lowest common denominator. The worst part of it being that the people peddling around the moronic "just for kids" narrative as a way to discourage analysis and critique are getting proven right. Rangers is becoming more like just a kids show and less like a show that can be unironically enjoyed by a wide variety of age groups. Saban does realize that if he caters to both, they'll be a wider audience for which to buy his toys, right? He seems to be missing that part.
Power Rangers should have a steady balance of action scenes and storytelling. Kids will enjoy the fight scenes regardless of greater context, but without a stable story, they’re going to look back upon it and think “Geez, I used to find _that_ entertaining?”
I would love that too! I've been saying for some time that being able to diversify their approach is one of the greatest strengths of Power Rangers. Each season in the post-Zordon era felt like it's own thing, a unique take on a relatively simple idea. But nowadays, almost every season feels like the same hollow mess. And they don't even need to necessarily make every character a working professional as with Lightspeed, although I wouldn't mind. But even follow the Wild Force example, a season which had characters from all walks of life.
I remember being exited for Ninja Steel so much so that I watched Shuriken Sentai Shurikenjer in its entirety to see what it could be about. Sad to say I didn't even get past the second episode of Ninja Steel.
I honestly think Power Rangers should go back to Disney just for the fact that Disney did have a lot of the best seasons in the franchise. Ever since Power Rangers has been on Nick, it has been nothing but disappointed and even disrespectful for fans. And hey, if Disney doesn't want the franchise, there is always Cartoon Network and even Netflix. P.S. I love the new intro.
Eh, Cartoon Network's current line-up makes me seriously doubt they would be able to do better than Nick has. They have all but admitted that they've given up on good story-driven action shows in favor of cheap laughs.
Power Rangers deserves to be on FreeForm, since Nick enforces a shorter episode limit per season. If FreeForm gets it, then longer seasons would be gladly appreciated.
or as some call it the teen titans go network. that piece of crap eats up so many timeslots hardly anything new gets a chance to really get ratings. sonic boom and megaman fully charged were basically dumped on boomerang so teen titans go could get more airings. that trash is a blight on the network. and plenty of homes still don't have decent internet or money or netflix. for one i don't.
What they probably should’ve done with Viera is introduce her in the beginning as one of Galvanax’s lieutenants, maybe someone who joined because she was forced into the life, via her family serving Galvanax for generations. Maybe have her fall into a situation where Brody and Mick have to save her and slowly begin to show her that what Galvanax is doing is wrong and she helps them escape his ship, but they have to mount a rescue when Odious finds out about this and tricks Galvanax into thinking Viera is the traitor trying to overthrow him, to cover her own tracks. That way, you could actually develop Viera and make her face-turn more legitimate than just, “Sarah saved me that one time” and explain why it’s Brody, not Sarah, who obtains the Lion Armor and Lion Fire Zord (I’d also, probably name the Zord something along the lines of Burning Roartress, instead of Lion Fire, but that’s just me)
That would have been pretty cool. Also, her being a human-like character presented early could led to future Ranger status, which would be very Karone like I suppose, but honestly if they just copied LG note for note at this point, I wouldn't mind, lol.
@The Disney Brain ive been waiting for ages for this bro glad you finally did this. this is the straw that broke the camels back for me . I switched over to super sentai and havnt looked back
Ninja Steel was the reason I stopped watching power rangers, now I only watch analysis and read fanfics. RPM,time force and SPD are the only power rangers seasons I watch without cringing to hell imo
@@lejohnavery4556 I agree! However, Personally I think Netflix should buy it from Hasbro and turn it to a PG show insted of a Y-7 show so that way everyone can enjoy it,while still keeping the heros we know and love and adding stronger themes, violence etc. and plus power rangers go to neflix when the seasons are done,so its a win-win.
I feel like they could have done more with Madame Odius character in season two. Madame Odius in season one was great. In season one, they built her up as a crafty lieutenant under Galvanax. As you mentioned, it was great how she was able to display such deviousness and still to come on top despite her plan failing, But I think the series undersold her at season one finale and through out season two. Since she was brought back as a season two main villain, they should have continue her character from season one and make her a truly powerful adversary for the Power Ranger. Rather, she was portrayed as a weak villain, almost like a lieutenant acting as the general rather than being the general herself. Consider this: During the confrontation between the Power Ranger and Galvanax, Galvanax was overwhelming the Power Ranger at one point before Madame Odius appeared to reveal her treacherous nature. Rather than having her being "blasted" away, let her potentially defeat Galvanax and now the Power Ranger would have to defeat Madame Odius with limited power they have left. Or they could continue to fight Madame Odius until their power burned out, which would have been a good set up for Ninja Steel. Anyway, Madame Odius was about to defeat the Power Ranger when her power source run out as well. She then must retreat. Or make it that the Power Ranger barely made it. The season would end with the team reflecting on their strength, spirit, and will, and all those fun stuffs commonly found in Power Ranger. Because in this scenario, they did not defeat Galvanax and they did not (or barely defeated) Madame Odius and have to regroup to think about their future as rangers. Because in this scenario, Madame Odius would have been set up as a villain that almost beat the Power Ranger, elevating the stake in the second season. Honestly, Madame Odius losing in season one finale and losing in the first episode of season two set her up as weak. She can still be weak physically, but her intellectual prowess and cunning of season one should have been carried through out season two as well. I'm not sure what is your take on it, but to me, it feel like Madame Odius was underwhelm. I didn't see the Power Ranger struggled too much with her. I mean they did because the show made it that way, but feel like their struggle wasn't that genuine.
You know, it does sort of feel like that at times, until Levi throws in a selfie, while fighting of all things, and then you realize omg, what even is this??
The Disney Brain that's from ninninger. And though I haven't watched it. I do know that gold is super duper cocky in ninninger and really "American" so he takes a selfie with bad guys before destroying them
I liked Dino Charge, anything is a step up from Super Duper SamuraiForce. But ever since they moved to Nickelodeon it's been so terrible that on the rare occasion that I do watch, I watch it on mute because the dialogue is so God awful.
Chiko was here samurai was a rushed job with rusty directors and scriptwriters and its an ok series considering all of that. Megaforce was a complete failure because tzachor was flat out refusing to try and give the characters something, Even the actors were begging for something from him.
Dino Charge was such a genuine improvement that I even loved Tyler's catchphrase "It's about to get wild!" I said that with him every time he did, LOL. For me, Dino Charge was the balance Saban needed, the kind of show that knew how to be goofy while also giving us real characters.
Chiko was here FreeForm is the better network for the Rangers. I hope the series moves to said network in hope of extending the seasons since Nickelodeon enforces a 20-ish episode limit.
Sucks that Calvin and Hayley are so underused. They're like my favorites. I will say Sarah grew on me as the season went on and I quite like her. But I agree that she's too perfect and too much stuff was given to her over the others. Some of that could have gone to Calvin and Hayley. Preston... never really clicked with me that much. And Brody... he's really dull. I mean, at least it's a much better dull than Megaforce but come on. He had so much potential with his story and his character... does not use it at all. Levi's also meh. The storyline bringing them together WAS good though, if rushed. Yes, Victor and Monty are horrible. I didn't care much for Bulk and Spike but they weren't anywhere near this bad. They could actually be cool sometimes. Wait, Sledge? I... what? How? ...what?
Yeah, I saw a lot of potential with Hayley. And she feels the most natural in her role by far, so focusing on her more would have vastly increased the overall quality. Sledge appeared on the back end of the Super Ninja Steel trailer. Not sure how, or why, or even when quite frankly, lol. BUT, if that means even a small chance of Kendall, I'm all in!
Ninja Steel was a weird season. It focused way to much about teaching children simple messages. I have high hopes they ditched the whole message thing and moved to story.
15:04 To be fair, the exact same thing happened with Lost Galaxy. Karone overcame her evil past, but for some reason Leo got the battliizer. And in all honesty, this has probably happened at least ONE more time in PR up to this point.
Ninja Steel is the 4th season back in high school - MMPR/Zeo/Turbo, Dino Thunder, Mega Force and now Ninja Steel. Nicko who plays Calvin, the yellow ranger, was born in home town of Woodbridge, VA but he did not go to Woodbridge High School (my high school) which I graduated from 22 years ago this June. Woodbridge High School dropped it's automotive department several years ago focusing on the music and arts
The new intro was done well. I like how it built on your past one. And it updated nicely. I lie how you included new clips instead of keeping them all the same. Great video as always. Can’t wait to see what you do next. Would love to see new ultimate ranger teams for different scenarios.
Good job on the new intro, and a good review as always. Since I haven't seen the season yet, I can't comment on most of it, but Viera definitely looked like one of those really bad light side/dark side shifts I harped about a few videos ago. What Power Rangers hasn't seemed to grasp since RPM (and they could still be a bit spotty on this before that) is that people almost never jump directly from one camp to the other like that, and even when they do their personality and viewpoints tend to stay the same for a while. The easiest thing they could have done is just have her struggle with understanding what's an appropriate response to acting in self-defense or the protection of others ie: she goes full power on someone who just snatched a purse and doesn't see that as going too far. Really, anything to acknowledge that she doesn't just instantly and perfectly understand a concept that was completely foreign to her when the series started would probably have done a lot to make that part of the story much better.
With today's episode of Ninja Super Steel (yes, that's how they say it in the friggin' show), the cameo of three veteran Rangers (Wes, Koda, and Gemma) and having them actually briefly interact with Ninja Steel team before the upcoming 25th anniversary team-up episode has likely answered your question regarding said interactions.
13:12 - Honestly, I think the secret identity aspect should be done away with. It's just led to a lot of contrivances and dumb scenarios when it comes to the Rangers trying to cover up their civilian identities. If everyone knows who they are, then others know to stay out of their way when there's a threat coming. Also, I still think Madame Odious is a dumb name. I would've gone with "Lady Kitsune".
Secret identities are sometimes binned in Power Rangers - think Lightspeed Rescue or SPD. It all depends on the context - but yeah, sometimes it needs to be written more carefully.
I suppose context is key. I don't have any secret identities in my fan-fic series because I figured it made more sense for the public to be aware of who the Rangers were so they knew who was protecting them. Plus, this prevents them from issues that could crop up at work or their social lives since they won't have to keep making excuses when they're called away for a fight.
I agree and disagree at the same time. I agree because the villains pretty much know who the Rangers are since the Rangers always Morph in front of them. So the argument of protecting loved ones is null and void. And disagree as there must be a reason why Zordon said to keep their identity a secret. Probably to keep them from using their powers for personal gain if used for anything other than fighting against dangerous evil like Zedd and whatnot. Lightspeed Rescue and SPD were protectors before they became Rangers, and they are well known. Thus it's only make since to know they're Rangers. And SPD is a Police Force as well, and thus the citizens know who the Rangers are as well. Even Time Force in the future probably know who the Rangers are. Maybe at the end of the series the citizens knows who the Time Force Rangers are as Wes is teaming with Eric and the Silver Guardians.
Yeah, I mean, the villains can attack the Rangers' loved ones if they choose to, so there's no valid "keeping others safe" argument. As for if they used their powers for personal gain, that's another case where having a publicly known identity is useful - it makes them accountable. The way I see it, the Rangers are protectors, and like with Lightspeed Rescue, SPD, Operation Overdrive, and RPM, the public benefits from knowing who their protectors are.
Well that’s funny because Samurai/Shinkinger and Ninninger/Ninja Steel we’re meant to be similar in the first place (except the Ninningers are a family and a rouge Yokai Hunter and the Shinkinger was that the rangers were destined to be Samurai because of their parents except the gold ranger)
Haha, you're very welcome. It's always a little bit odd for me, because I debate about how serious certain parts should be and if this or that joke would even land. But I'm trying to get better about weaving that in every now and again :)
NabilRider555 Except Lynn clearly disappointed most of us in DinoSupercharge. Frankly it doesn’t matter who the writer or head writer is only that the writing is competent (which it hasn’t been).
atticus bulan Exactly. That’s why I sent the link to Saban. They’re the ones in charge of this story, and quite frankly, they could use some constructive criticism.
Wohoo, I feel like this was the harshest review you have ever given on a Power Rangers season, even harsher than Samurai and Megaforce! Sadly, however, I have to agree with you on all aspects you discussed. There are some seasons I've watched more than once because I like them a lot. With some seasons, I would be okay with watching them again but don't feel the need to do so. Ninja Steel unfortunately falls under category three: It feels hard to watch for me, and I only do watch it because I've been watching _every_ episode of _every_ season, but it's definitely not a season where I look forward to the next episode. :( Honestly, thanks to Ninja Steel, I even thought Peter Sudarso was a bad actor (after his brother Yoshi had done soooo well on Dino Charge), and if it hadn't been for Power Rangers HyperForce, I probably never would have figured out that Peter can in fact act very well and that Ninja Steel just isn't leaving any chances for him to proof it. Such a waste of potential!
Indeed. Long gone are the days where I could recognize almost every director used. I'd just force Charlie Haskell or Worth Keeter to direct almost every episode, honestly. And save Koichi Sakamoto for the big stuff.
Compoletely agree with you on the one reason to watch the Dino Charge Halloween episode. I suggest checking out the Liftime movie Stalked By My Doctor: The Return, to see her wearing even less.
The girls didn’t get a chance to use the battlelizer armor. Samurai had the girls to use the super mode and almost had all use the powers of the ancestor
@@giadaceletti4170 Nah that's wrong Ninja Steel has unfair sentai footage of their battlizer. Shogun Mode is a Power Rangers original battlizer when the story could have had only Jayden as the Red Ranger use it so Saban wasn't sexist in this
I want to see how they explain Sledge and his goons returning. Mainly because (if the finale of Dino Super Charge is in the same reality as Ninja(Super) Steel) they were apparently vaporized when their ship was sent into the sun.
Yeah, lol, my bet is that they'll just go with it. BUT, if it means getting Kendall back, even for a second, I'm down with whatever temporal magic they pull out of their hat.
I hate to be that guy but there is one side that benefits from Power Rangers not being good. The side that bash it in favor of the Sentai, using seasons like Overdrive and Megaforce as "proof" that Power Rangers has no merit. These people tend to ignore genuinely good seasons or even the ones that are just ok. I hate those people but your right about loud vocal minorities. Their loud and vocal, and take the fun away from everyone else.
I don't have much insight into the Sentai, so I tend to have a much bigger issue with the "fans" that criticize critique by claiming that "It's just a kids show". A terribly short sighted narrative that allows hack writers a free pass to dumb things down while thoughtful discourse is tossed aside. Meanwhile, "kids shows" like Gravity Falls, both Avatars, and so much more, find quality beyond the simplistic, and we rightfully hold them all on pedestals because of that. Why not us? Why does Power Rangers have to be excluded from that? We aren't Barney, or Sesame Street, and we sure as hell ain't Caillou. Hell, even Arthur had a couple of very socially relevant episodes. Let's not be safe, let's not play by the "rules" whatever those are. Let's be remembered because we pushed the envelope, not just because we sealed it.
Would love any videos about Sentai compared to their Power Rangers counterparts, "They took the show in a completely different direction but it worked because..." "They really didn't have much to work with but still pulled out a decent season..." "How did they manage to mess up so badly when you have such a quality Sentai to work off of?!" That kind of thing.
That would involve actually finished a Sentai season, lol, but even if I did, I'm not the biggest fan of that critique through adaptation comparison. I'd prefer to compare Rangers to Rangers and Sentai to other Sentai.
When I heard of ninja steel I heard a rumor that it might crossover with ninja storm and I first thought maybe that would happen the first season but now I hope the ninja steel in ninja storm crossover happens in the second season hopefully that can save this series because the first season was very hit or miss for me and at times boring but it do you have some good moments too. And I happened to actually like Power Rangers samurai and super samurai. Wasn’t crazy about megaforce and super megaforce.
I'm more concerned with how * little * character Hayley gets. Calvin at least is shown early on to have a fear of driving but Hayley gets...nothing. We know her parents aren't together and her dog is called Cody. I wish they had given her depth as a character. Such as why she's fighting, why she was chosen and more focus episodes. For example in Super Ninja Steel we see that Sarah and Hayley are besties, great, why though? They don't have enough scenes together to justify a friendship on any level other than teammates. I feel as though Hayley could have been a lot more than what she was.
Even though I haven't watch a Rangers series since the first few episodes of Megaforce I find these refreshing and gives me insight into what is going on currently. Sometimes I think watching these will encourage me to finally just watch both Megaforce seasons, both Dino Charge seasons and now Ninja Steel so I can say I am all caught up, but I can hardly say I find anything interesting, though it's only based on reviews and opinions such as this video and other videos or forums about the seasons I missed. To explain this I must talk about my experience with RPM, I missed it after watching the first few episodes and then missing out for most of the season then watching a few episodes later in the season because of the ABC kids timeslot. It also was hard for me to find any way to watch online back then. I encouraged myself to watch it two years ago after hearing how many interesting things have happened in the season like character dynamics which is my favorite thing about most Ranger seasons. And I was glad that the positives were true and that I enjoyed it. After pushing through both seasons of Samurai I told myself at the finale that I'm so glad it's over and can't wait for the next season. I watched about 5 episodes of Megaforce and couldn't care about a single character. I gave up and assumed it was worthless. I heard Megaforce was pretty mediocre and wasn't surprised. Never gave Dino Charge a chance and heard things ranging from it sucked to it was average at best. Now Ninja Steel seems like it had potential and kinda fell over based on opinions I have seen.
Peter Sudarso does a better job at playing Marvin in HyperForce which is just a table top game. A table top game is making better storylines and better characters than Nickelodeon could with Ninja Steel. (for people who don't know Peter Sudarso Plays Preston)
Ninjas vs Aliens should be an interesting concept for this Power ranger season where family is the core theme. The Galaxy warriors aspect was really poorly handled having interesting tags of survival to stem from not just Brody but Ripcon or any number of characters the team would face to just being monster of the week. Too bad Sarah's hotness can't save her character which really does take away Haley's being more so focused on but what difference would it make when time worthy arcs are resolved in an afternoon or less. There could have been more complexity with the Aiden story or simplicity in the way it served towards the end having him play background character rather than one of the 3 red rangers which I believe should have been the pay off standing with his father and brother as a legacy.
We do deserve better. The sentai is has been over for more then two years. The scripts should be tighter then they are, but it feels like they never made it passed the first draft. They contradict themselves multiple times during the same episode. Maybe the Ninja Nexus Prism should have come to Earth as a beyonder like entity to observe and study the ongoing battle between good and evil. Gifting five teens with the Ninja Stars and either summoning monsters from across the galaxy or corrupting several humans and turning them into the villains. I also think Viera was a missed opportunity to explain the origin of the Nexus Prism and why it was created.
They sorely need proofreaders for their scripts. These are professional men and women getting paid for this stuff. We should demand a better finished product than what we'd get on PBS Kids.
Victor and Monty are basically an even worse Bulk and Skull,at least for them their humor was actually funny sometimes, Victor and Monty's quote on quote "Humor" comes off as sad if anything. And everything else about this series, I feel as if this series was taking notes from Megaforce and i was hoping that wasn't the case cuz i REALLY like their suits and I REALLY wanted this season to be as awesome if not more awesome than Dino Charge. But as much as Im not a fan of Brody's acting, I'd rather take Brody than Troy ANY DAY OF THE WEEK to be honest, i think they should've went a bit farther and make Brody and Levi rivals throughout the series kinda like the Wess and Eric relationship from time force. To be honest this series has SOME good points but so far, Im not impressed with this series, FAR from it actually, its not Megaforce bad but this isn't good.......
I think Ninja Steel's biggest issue for most is that this feels like a very 'Sloan-esque' season. It feels more like MMPR then any of the Neo-Saban series so far, to an almost painful degree. It doesn't feel like a Judd Lynn helmed series at all. Dino Charge was a really good season over all, despite its faults. It wasn't the best, but it still had the charm and allure that Lynn's series tend to have. So coming into Ninja Steel and getting something that's about a 'perfect' recreation of the MMPR formula as possible in the modern era of storytelling is a bit like hitting a brick wall. The characters feel flat, the villains aren't that interesting (Sledge was dull, but he still had more character then Galvanax imo but even Sledge's crew had a lot of good personality to them that Galvanax's crew mostly lacks other then Cosmo and Madam Odeous), the plots feel a bit run of the mill with the few good ideas being glossed over or squandered quickly, and then there it Victor and Monty who are hit or miss (I do like the most the time), and to me most the times come off as trying too hard to be Bulk and Skull 3.0 (Bulk and Spike were 2.0). There is a chance Super Steel could really change things up, there seems to be some interesting plans floating around, but I still think the series as whole is probably gonna be one of the more forgettable ones of the franchise.
...I don't see how that factors into anything I am saying about this season as Dino Thunder is a wholly different series from a different era and had different levels of expectation. The only thing I can think of that you might be referring to is my comparing this to a modern MMPR, but Dino Thunder might be a MMPR-ish series but its not trying to be 'Sloan-ness' of MMPR that Ninja Steel has so perfectly captured for good or ill. Dino Thunder still has modern sequential story telling. Ninja Steel is episodic where other then a few elements you could watch episodes in almost any order and you'd not really get lost. It follows some of the more modern tropes of PR, but it still feels like it comes from the Early 90's. Dino Thunder doesn't feel trapped in bygone era.
I forgot he did that series, becuase it Dino Thunder doesn't feel like his early work on the series, MMPR to Turbo. They all had a very distinct feel to them. A feel that Ninja Steel seems to capture very well. I suppose getting away from the franchise for several years helped greatly becuase you could certainly tell in the first half of Turbo that he and his team seemed to be burning out on the series after doing it for so long.
Though I suppose I really really do need to say: I'm not saying ANY of Sloan's work is bad... okay His half of Turbo is not good, but I really don't mean sayign Ninja Steel feels Sloan-esque is meant to be an insult really. Its just not what you expect from Lynn, like Sloan much of his series have a very specific style to how they are. So you go into Ninja Steel expecting the typical Lynn style of beign very story and character driven, and you get a series that is more plot driven with the overall story and characters just sorta being their, much like how much of the original rangers could be, where they don't really change a whole lot as characters during that run.
Regarding Sarah's characterisation; It would've helped a lot if they'd decided to make her mother inattentive or negligent of her daughter's talents, therefore building a conflict where Sarah's Go-At-It attitude is justified. Think of it like the gender reversal of what Trent went through with Anton Mercer. How their relationship started off rocky and troubled, but evolved to where the two came to terms with each other's perspectives and began to bond as a result of their shared regrets, Anton's being a physical manifestation, while Trent's has to do with his compulsive mindset to rely on himself to solve his own problems, when Kira and the others were more than willing to sacrifice time to help him out. (Excluding Conner; who was more than willing to backhand Trent following the revelation, and even accused hm of being a traitor once Mercer was revealed to be Mesogog. His concerns were warranted, mind you. But even Ethan understood that Trent's actions weren't all his own and that he'd done a lot of good things to warrant a counter-argument to Conner's distrust.) Honestly, it would've at least made her overcharacterisation more understandable. Plus, if they wanted to go the problematic parent route; They could've made her find out about Sarah's status as a ranger and then ground her for hiding it from her. Kind of similar to Alien Force when Ben's parents do the same to him. Not only would it have impacted the team. But it would've also led to some decent drama when Sarah sneaks out and is caught, but decides to disobey her mother, who learns to be more mindful of her daughter's importance to the team, and even learns to accept her talents too.
OK, it's actually been a while since I've commented on a video like this so, I'm gonna throw my hat out into the Galaxy Warriors ring if you don't mind. For the most part about Ninja Steel, I agree with many of Disney-Brain's points. However, I would like to point out the Sarah not getting the Lion Fire Armor star - That happened in Ninninger too. Hell, Ninninger forced in a reason for Sarah's counterpart Kasumi to not use it. No joke, there's a legit Ninninger Stage-Show where Pink & White got to use Chouzetsu/Lion Fire Armor... and that was it. I actually hope Ninja Steel corrects that mistake or writes in a better explanation for why Sarah or Haley can't use it. I would like to bring in some personal feelings on the matter - The year Ninja Steel aired as well as the coming Lionsgate PR movie, I was getting an eviction notice from my home of almost 8 years/Since the family & I have moved to Oregon. As such, I went ballistic with rage & sadness to the point where the only things that would keep my sanity in check were Power Rangers on TV, PR on the big-screen & also Kamen Rider, and whatever commissions I was working on because painting & building model kits is my frigging Zen-Mode. Because of this, I have a more emotional attachment to Power Rangers to the point it's helped me out through a depression that's lasted MONTHS. Yes, Ninja Steel isn't the best season of PR, far from it... But at least it's far better than Samurai, Megaforce, Overdrive & it's Sentai counterpart Ninninger COMBINED. And contrary to what one commenter that I know may reply to this: No, I'm not kidding, I'm not joking, all of what I just said is 100% real so, if you think I'm joking? Don't let the door hit you on the way out. PS: THANK YOU, Disney-Brain, for saying that the franchise can be challenged through understand and not screaming at our throats. I personally still have faith in Power Rangers as it's helped me out through way too many emotional spots for me to count. And for people saying the show should go back to Disney? That sounds asinine. Did you forget Disney tried to kill the franchise 3 times over and even said to "JUST DUB THE SENTAI FOOTAGE"? Plus, Disney has Marvel & Star Wars now, so they don't need nor want PR. Also, Cartoon Network can go to hell too.
Thank YOU for sharing your perspective on the matter. Without question it must have been hard to have to go through what you went through, but I'm glad you were able to come out stronger on the other side! This is the important stuff, the kind of resonance that makes the subjective quality of this show or any show meaningless compared to the real life impact it has, and that should be celebrated! So again I say, thank you.
Thanks a bunch for the response, Disney-Brain. PR has that level of impact on my life that the quality is inconsequential. I still think some seasons are shit, but I digress.
Never gonna happen. Disney tried to kill the franchise 3 times over, remember? Plus, they have Marvel & Star Wars now. Disney doesn't need PR to be successful.
A question that's been bugging for several weeks now and want to know from anyone willing to answer: Why do people think William Shewfelt's acting is bad? No one seems to explain it, they just say the acting is bad. How can he fix his acting if no one says what makes the acting bad? In the words of John Mark Loudermilk (Paraphrased): "Constructive criticism is appreciated, but bashing does nothing to help anyone." It particularly bugs me because I can't see what could wrong with Will's acting. It seems perfect to me. Am I just a less negative person? Do I care more? Am I dumb? This question applies to so many other Ranger actors, like Gareth Yuen or Alex Heartman. (Though on rare occasions people will provide explanations for actors like them. Weird how people only provide explanations when it's at least 5 years too late)
THANK YOU! Finally, someone who agrees! I personally like William Shewfelt's acting as Brody/I think it could be a LITTLE better but for the most part, he's perfectly fine.
Good acting is a combination of things such as timing, written dialogue, delivery of said writing, physical movements and screen presence, as well as the teleplay around you. That's why every award winning actor tends to come from an award winning movie, because the context matters. Brody comes off flat because for the most part, his deliver is oddly timed, his emotions don't seem to match the situation, the writing he's given would sound absurd even if Morgan Freeman was reciting it, and the teleplay is bare bones. Long story short, it's not all about him, and it's probably way more about the direction he's being given, but I don't think William in particular helps since I think it's fairly clear that his co-stars are at least a little better at this than he is.
I think it's a Nickelodeon thing, some arbitrary rule about how their seasons work. It makes sense for Super Megaforce, since their power upgrade is reminiscent of the Zeo upgrade of yesteryear, but the other super seasons are just the next episodes of the same show.
So... I recently read something that I think helps illustrate how under-focused Calvin and Hayley are and how over-focused Sarah is. I will need to find a source to back this up, but I figured I'd let people know. So, a Super Ninja Steel episode was written that would've had Calvin and Hayley break up and then Calvin would start dating Sarah. This was scrapped when the actresses playing Hayley and Sarah went to the writers and said this would teach a bad moral to kids. I will need to find a source to back this up, but I figured I would mention this is all.
Unrelated but Sledge has to be the biggest joke of a big bad to ever exist. The guy looks like a typical weak villain of the week, I can't take him seriously. The Super Duper Samurai big bad was a lazy drunk but at least he looked intimidating
J Smooth Soul Beats poisandra should’ve became an ally like in kyoryuger smh.. all she does it complain about how she wants to get married and sledge betrays her 24/7. He is a whiny villain honestly another divatox/lothor/and the super mega force villain up to vrak is back
The best way to describe Ninja Steel is “safe”.
I agree it’s not like Beast morphed which seems so kid friendly that it ain’t power ranger
@@ultimatezack6437 ????
Damn
At this point, you should honestly be picked up as a writer for the Power Rangers Franchise and given the helm of a season or two. Or atleast an editor or historical expert that is allowed to make changes to the script prior to filming.
That would be pretty awesome!
I wanted Karone as a ranger in in Space instead of Lost Galaxy.
Sean Wilson
Andros was forlorn about losing Karone ever since the beginning, and tried to reconnect with her the moment it was clear she became Astronema. They needed to build up that plot because family is important.
The only times I’ve seen Brody talk about his family are in episodes where he’s lost them, found them, or thinks he’s found them. For a matter as important as a long-lost father and brother, I don’t think that’s often enough.
Kyle Stubbs really that's your only complaint?
Damien Lu I said it was my _biggest_ complaint. Not my _only_ complaint.
One of the most accurate descriptions of Ninja Steel is that it's Dino Charge lite, basically DC but without the charm, charisma and good writing
I am just wondering because I really enjoy your videos. Why aren't you doing any Andi Mack?
The Disney Brain when go back to Disney videos?
ANDI MACK
The Disney Brain YES
The Disney Brain I'm starting to make videos & have my own channel my latest vid is top 10 ranger themes & i would appreciate It if u checked it out (Sorry for the bad vid quality I will fix it in the future) I would love some feed back from a great UA-camr like u
Nick's succ is unique
-The Disney Brain 2018 :p
Lmao
They're still better than cartoon network
These kids are supposed to be in High School? They don't look like it. I'd like to the Rangers move away from highschool again/teenagers.
Two of them are 27 I believe
Technically Dino Charge wasn't teenagers
Bryan, neither did the original team.
It worked for Lost Galaxy, Lightspeed Rescue, Time Force, SPD, Wild Force ( ? ), and others so obviously we don't NEED it to be teenagers.
I remember being exited for Ninja Steel so much so that I watched Shuriken Sentai Shurikenjer in its entirety to see what it could be about. Sad to say I didn't even get past the second episode of Ninja Steel.
Where do you watch them?
Lailah Nolen
Netflix, I agree with that.
Cartoon Network, Just no, I disagree.
Netflix deserves nothing to do with power rangers
My problem is that they tried to go back to the 90s with ninja steel but we are fucking 2018 where we have shows of Marvel and Dc
They do need to move forward.... BY GOING TO SPACE!!! PLEASE!!
I rly like Preston because of his actor.
Lovin the new intro!
Thank you!
KingMCPEx 7
@The Disney Brain ive been waiting for ages for this bro glad you finally did this. this is the straw that broke the camels back for me . I switched over to super sentai and havnt looked back
They sound so emotionless when they power up they sound so forced
Sara's the Mary Sue of this season.
How is Jayden's Froyo Smile not a bigger meme?
Ninja Steel was the reason I stopped watching power rangers, now I only watch analysis and read fanfics. RPM,time force and SPD are the only power rangers seasons I watch without cringing to hell imo
I think the writers should make a power rangers for all to enjoy.
Power Rangers arent just for kids. But for the teens and early adults like us.
Tbh, I don't even bother watching other seasons, I only ever revisit RPM every now and then. It's that good
Love the new intro. Sarah and Haley are my favorite characters. Agree with everything on Victor and Monty.
Consider this:
During the confrontation between the Power Ranger and Galvanax, Galvanax was overwhelming the Power Ranger at one point before Madame Odius appeared to reveal her treacherous nature.
You mean that Ninja Steel took the universe back to the 90's in the worst way?
You know, it does sort of feel like that at times, until Levi throws in a selfie, while fighting of all things, and then you realize omg, what even is this??
I'm starting to fear for Beast Morphers
Megaforce could have been decent. Even Troy could have done better with someone coaching him.
Dino Charge was such a genuine improvement that I even loved Tyler's catchphrase "It's about to get wild!" I said that with him every time he did, LOL. For me, Dino Charge was the balance Saban needed, the kind of show that knew how to be goofy while also giving us real characters.
erm wasn't dino charge on nickelodeon
Rodney The Lunchbox maybe the next one would be at least as good as Dino Charge
Rodney The Lunchbox
Ninninger is a lot better
The first season of samurai was based on children messages, but at least that was a bit better with Emily's character
I liked the "fake brother" mini-arc. I just thought it happened too early. I felt it should've happened closer to the end of the first season.
1:31 🔥I agree with that reason🔥
;)
With today's episode of Ninja Super Steel (yes, that's how they say it in the friggin' show), the cameo of three veteran Rangers (Wes, Koda, and Gemma) and having them actually briefly interact with Ninja Steel team before the upcoming 25th anniversary team-up episode has likely answered your question regarding said interactions.
I'm diggin' the new intro
Love that new intro!!
Also Viera had that ridiculous and hilariously huge boxed suit for that girl 😂😂😂
I feel like you are showing more personally in these videos.
I like it iy is amazing like you thanks man you are my god
Haha, you're very welcome. It's always a little bit odd for me, because I debate about how serious certain parts should be and if this or that joke would even land. But I'm trying to get better about weaving that in every now and again :)
The Disney Brain i like it man
Can’t wait until Linkara’s review on Ninja Steel In 2019.
I'm still haveing a hard time with cowboy ninja. To me, it just doesn't seem to work or it mihgt just be this interpretation.
Mind if I link the Saban crew to this video? I’m sure they could learn a thing or two.
NabilRider555 so simply having a different opinion somehow makes people idiots?
You do know your opinion isn't fact, right?
NabilRider555 Except Lynn clearly disappointed most of us in DinoSupercharge. Frankly it doesn’t matter who the writer or head writer is only that the writing is competent (which it hasn’t been).
I would not mind at all if you somehow got Saban and friends to watch this. They'll either hire me or issue a cease and desist, LOL
Aaron Beasley it's not the actor's fault. It's the director's and writer's fault
atticus bulan Exactly. That’s why I sent the link to Saban. They’re the ones in charge of this story, and quite frankly, they could use some constructive criticism.
We been waiting for this
Wohoo, I feel like this was the harshest review you have ever given on a Power Rangers season, even harsher than Samurai and Megaforce!
Honestly, thanks to Ninja Steel, I even thought Peter Sudarso was a bad actor (after his brother Yoshi had done soooo well on Dino Charge), and if it hadn't been for Power Rangers HyperForce, I probably never would have figured out that Peter can in fact act very well and that Ninja Steel just isn't leaving any chances for him to proof it. Such a waste of potential!
Yep... don't think I'll be watching Ninja Steel again for quite some time, lol
Indeed. Long gone are the days where I could recognize almost every director used. I'd just force Charlie Haskell or Worth Keeter to direct almost every episode, honestly. And save Koichi Sakamoto for the big stuff.
I don't think I understand what you are trying to tell me (or accusing me of), Aaron.
Pink Ranger damn thicc. Good video tho
Okay, what the fuck is happening to the timelines, I'M 100% SURE SLDEGE DIED TWICE
Ninja Steel: The Good - It isn't Ninninger
The Bad - It reminds you of Ninninger.
Ninninger is bad.
I'm glad there's someone who sees logic to these stories this is why I watch the original the super senti
Aww yeah, this new intro rocks!
Great video! Linkara is gonna have a field day with it
Compoletely agree with you on the one reason to watch the Dino Charge Halloween episode. I suggest checking out the Liftime movie Stalked By My Doctor: The Return, to see her wearing even less.
6:38 speaking of Norg, why didn't you mention him in your operation overdrive video?
The girls didn’t get a chance to use the battlelizer armor. Samurai had the girls to use the super mode and almost had all use the powers of the ancestor
And that's on Saban being sexist
I think Viera shouldve had a similar idea of how Ransik changes along with his daughter.
Atleast in Dino charge and ninja steel, the female rangers have been hot
Can't argue with that, lol. But I think that's pretty much every Ranger season.
The Disney Brain lol true
To this day, I don't understand how the two guys didn't know they were brothers
I hate to be that guy but there is one side that benefits from Power Rangers not being good. The side that bash it in favor of the Sentai, using seasons like Overdrive and Megaforce as "proof" that Power Rangers has no merit. These people tend to ignore genuinely good seasons or even the ones that are just ok. I hate those people but your right about loud vocal minorities. Their loud and vocal, and take the fun away from everyone else.
Werezilla Okay, but what’s the benefit of winning that argument?
This video isn't blocked in the UK any more!
6:09, A.K.A, Diet Bulk and Diet Skull
Would love any videos about Sentai compared to their Power Rangers counterparts, "They took the show in a completely different direction but it worked because..." "They really didn't have much to work with but still pulled out a decent season..." "How did they manage to mess up so badly when you have such a quality Sentai to work off of?!"
That kind of thing.
One thing I do like is that their first battles they make mistakes and they do train and get better
Victor and Monty should never have been in this show. Even MMPR knew to tone down Bulk and Skull at times.
Has anyone pointed out that a good chunk of the disney brains videos are a series of shows that currently airs on Nick?
Lol, I've gotten a lot of "You should change your name to Ranger Brain", but not a ton of Nick mentions :)
Did any of the neo saban rangers ever change outfits?
Is it bad that I liked the old power ranger seasons better than today?
The fact they reused one or Venjix's bodies in Ninja Steel profoundly offends me
Why can't saban see that nickelodeon is killing power rangers
Glad I haven't missed much by skipping most of this "Neo-Saban" era
In before Grand Overlord Mickey starts the Neo-Disney Era, lol.
Peter Sudarso does a better job at playing Marvin in HyperForce which is just a table top game. A table top game is making better storylines and better characters than Nickelodeon could with Ninja Steel. (for people who don't know Peter Sudarso Plays Preston)
Too true!
Say what you will, that 4-legged race episode was so much stupid fun
LOL, I thought so too. I liked the Romero boys more as cocky winners than their actual characters.
The Disney Brain Not to mention that out of left field monster with Arnold's voice XD.
Princess Viera makes Princess Shayla look like Dr. K
The rangers really dressed trendy or in a way to show off their bods this season lol Power Ranger H&M!
LOL
*body
Bodies how?
In other words Mystic
Eye candies ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Nuruddin Shah for Sarah I can see that 😍
Hope you do an anniversary episode like Forever Red
Have you seen the Twitch show Power Rangers HyperForce
i personally thinks it's really good, so far.
I have seen it! It's a unique concept and a breath of fresh air for the franchise. Good stuff.
Galvanax was so ineffective as a main villain, he makes Prince Vekar look like Ransik.
There is a chance Super Steel could really change things up, there seems to be some interesting plans floating around, but I still think the series as whole is probably gonna be one of the more forgettable ones of the franchise.
so you don't like dino thunder?
...I don't see how that factors into anything I am saying about this season as Dino Thunder is a wholly different series from a different era and had different levels of expectation. Dino Thunder doesn't feel trapped in bygone era.
i ask because you said sloan style which he did dino thunder though this season doesn't feel anything like dino thunder.
The gold ranger costume is fantastic.
19:43 "She literally had the laugh laugh"
1:29 there was one specific reason I give a damn about Dino Charge
That damn Nick Screenshot every vid
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I wonder why did they give them stars as Morphers?
Why not do what nininger did and have them transform with they're swords?
I was confused when this show said kill/killed
I would have liked to see Redbot analysis. I thought he got more focus and development than any of the rangers.
Disney please buy back Power Rangers please
PanTrio GFW I’d chalk it up to spending ten years on a ship of hostile aliens that scared you into behaving.
Hey Disney brain when u said there was s literal passing of the torch when talking bout Preston character & actor what did u mean???
Preston's actor is the brother of the guy who played Koda (the caveman guy in Dino Charge).
Yep! What Wright said!
Glad to help.
My question is why are there do Super seasons now like what's with that
I think it's a Nickelodeon thing, some arbitrary rule about how their seasons work.
This series i could not aee more than 3 episode
if ninja steel had taken more and bigger risks, then it would've probably had a better total review
I felt like Sarah could have been the leader in Ninja Steel
There’s one redeeming feature to this show.... Sara...oh my god
Unrelated but Sledge has to be the biggest joke of a big bad to ever exist. The guy looks like a typical weak villain of the week, I can't take him seriously. The Super Duper Samurai big bad was a lazy drunk but at least he looked intimidating
J Smooth Soul Beats
poisandra should’ve became an ally like in kyoryuger smh.. all she does it complain about how she wants to get married and sledge betrays her 24/7. He is a whiny villain honestly another divatox/lothor/and the super mega force villain up to vrak is back
