You only get that adjustment screw on the xt and xtr derailleurs and even then don’t change the factory setting, it’s only for when the clutch wears a bit so you can retighten it.
I think some models you actually have to take the clutch cover off to adjust the tension. Just remove the 3 small screws and the cover and you will find the same adjustment screw as with the higher models
It depends a lot on the trails you're riding whether or not the clutch helps with chain slap. And if it is significantly easier to shift with it turned off, you may be due for a cable and housing replacement.

My guess is a bearing? Anyways, thanks again if you take the time to help me potentially diagnose my issues.
Im just wondering, if your not riding in a situation needing the the clutch does it take less energy to ride with it off? Your channel is awsome bye the way!
It *might* take slightly less force to push the shift lever, but didn't affect the pedaling efficiency and levers are designed to be used for clutch derailleurs nowadays, so it's better to just leave it on. Especially because it's easy to forgot to turn back on.
@@sydfixesbikes i really meant pedalling, is there maybe some lost effort pedalling against the higher spring force, but really what difference could there be?
Nope, no difference because once you're in a specific gear, there isn't any chain movement happening. If you had an oval chainring, I could potentially see there being some resistance when pedaling, but not with a normal setup!

If you tighten it too much, it will make your shifter lever harder to push. But the levels are designed nowadays for clutch derailleurs, so as long as you don't over tighten it it shouldn't negatively affect the performance.
I've had Shimano just about every bike and I've never seen that lever matter of fact I just ran down to the basement where I have 2 bikes with Shimano derailleur and no lever.
You should have the clutch ON unless you're removing the rear wheel. It decreases the likelihood of dropping your chain and it's designed to be on when riding.
@@childdestroyer6939 What she said is wrong, that’s completely normal and obvious because it restricts the cages movement so when you shift its a much stiffer movement than what it’s like without it on.
He said "shifts better" not "is easier to shift". Those are two different things. The derailleurs are designed to be shifted *with* the clutch on, so shouldn't "shift better" with the clutch off. Shifting is *slightly* more difficult with the clutch turned on (because of the increased tension) but the longer lever paddles are designed to make up for that increased resistance
The clutch doesn’t add tension.
It adds resistance to the cage, stopping it bouncing. There is no extra tension on the chain

The adjustment screw is really sensitive. Full turns are too coarse of an adjustment; instead, use 1/8 or 1/4 turns.
On older SRAM roller bearing clutches, yes.
