Very cool customization. I love customizing things and making them your own little pieces of art. Also I like how the drums were green yellow and red patina essentially, like rasta colors, which is my favorite color scheme. I would buy that paint job for a high end drum set for sure. Maybe i will collect some old snares and try this out.
I just bought a Ludwig steel drum to do this. Thought it would be a cool summer project with my kids. Just wondering how they held up over time? Any recommendations you would do differently?
Hi! So far, so good. I would recommend that you really clean it first and remove any rust, and use as high a concentration of isopropyl alchohol as you can find to make blending easier. If you have an air compressor you can make really cool patterns. I would recommend going light and not overdoing it with the color on your first pass, and choose at least one bright color and one dark color for a cool contrast. Otherwise, don't do what we did and wear nice clothes while doing this, as it can get kinda messy! ;) most importantly, have fun! Also don't forget to use a good quality finish to protect it afterwards, like the polyurethane spray. Please post pics of the result to the custom drum building facebook page!
Hi! You need to seal it in with some sort of finish, as the ink on its own will scratch and come off should you be unlucky enough to spill anything alcohol based on it. I used polyurethane and it worked great! Thanks for watching and hope you're having a lovely day!
Great job. Entertaining to watch.
Very cool! Thanks for sharing your process with such detail.
Thanks guys! Glad you liked it!
You have no idea how much I love this. Wow. Just ..... WOW!
Really like the drums
Yeah, those are sick.
Wow! Love em!
Looks good! Turned out nicely!
They came out amazing! If I don’t have an air compressor, is there something in a can I can get that will be strong enough?
I don't know- maybe a can of compressed air might do it?
I love your videos man. Big love!
They look rad mate!
Well done
This is great !
Very nice job. Thanks for the video.
Nice job, both on the drums and the video.
Much appreciated! Thanks so much!

Cool, thanks! There are good groups on facebook that showcase these kinds of things :)
Great work!
Thanks so much!
Really sharp.
Thanks so much :) I'm glad you liked it!
Yeah Yeah you guys are insane but I love it!
Are you taking on any customers? I have an Acro that I would love in Peacock.
Beautiful job....how long did you wait before the first coat of polyurethane? Thanks
I waited about 24 hours to be sure. I think you don't have to wait quite as long, but either way overnight should be fine too.
Tough to find those keychains now!! Damn.

what polyurethane do you use?
I used this product: www.amazon.com/Minwax-33055000-Fast-Drying-Polyurethane-Semi-Gloss/dp/B000M2XXBO
Like that
So correct me if I’m wrong but these drums were stripped down to bare metal before this process?
One of the drums was, but the others, no. It's not necessary as long as the surface is smooth.
How hardy is the ink alone from scratches/flaking off?

No thanks.
That's ok :)
Awesome job !
