"I can't believe I've never heard of them before..." The first thing we all say before this band takes over your life.
not all of there songs were this good. they had about 2 maybe 3 that were great songs.
@@vahsharo1980 yay for opinions!
@@vahsharo1980 I Cannot agree more.. I love their earlier songs more than the newer one..
@@vahsharo1980 Then go and buy the new albym ultra violet. I love EVERY song on that album..and that is a first for me.
You said it, I don't think you can have anytbing except an extreme reaction to this band, I fell in love at first listen and I'm a hardened metal head, crying like a baby listening to sleep....
The poets are so underrated! You should watch the video of them singing this song live. His voice live is unreal!
I actually did watch the live video right after i saw this one, his voice is stunning. It's rare you hear an artists that sounds as good live as they do on a recording.
Having lived in Finland, I am not at all surprised by the complexity of their lyrics as Finns learn to speak English virtually from birth, and many of them speak it far better than most of us. Finns also tend to be deep thinkers. The same applies to Sweden and Norway. Have loved this band for well over ten years.
No, no, using English at this level requires much more. His mother has spoken English to him since he was a baby, and he has also studied English and classical singing at university and has been an exchange student in the US and Ireland. I'm a Finn who learned English at a very young age, did a lot of my studies in English and use English in my work daily, and I'm nowhere close to that level in writing, even though writing is what I do.
Most first time listeners are amazed that they've never heard of Poets before, and are just as shocked that they aren't huge everywhere. I was one of those people 8 years ago! Now I've seen them 28 times live in Europe and they are now coming to USA at ProgPower Festival in Atlanta! Can't wait to see them here in USA!
Thank you for this reaction video and I hope you do more of their music! Every album is different yet distinctly Poets of the Fall. I think you will find many tracks to enjoy! Rock On!!
Tobyanca You call it the Poets of the Fall Effect, right? 🥰😘
@@assilarat Exactly!
They're out of spotlight in Finland also :( Every show is full house thou. Guess it's just too alternative these days
Pam the little Fandeer I do too on my blog 🥰😂
I live in Dallas! Wish I could see them in Atlanta but MONEY 😫 Stupid festival prices being so high lol. I hope they do a full north america tour next year!
Poets are amazing. You should react to their live rehearsal or whatever of 'Temple Of Thought'. Brilliant track, eye, ear and heart wise.
Temple of Thought, studio unplugged version - my favourite song of all time
The music and the lyrics are really beautiful. It can be interpreted as a love song.. for some reason to me it tells about how we chase superficial things and instant gratification while ignoring the things that really matter. Anyway, great reaction video :)
Enough is not the same it was before is one of my fav lines from this song. They have SO MANY amazing songs and they are true wordsmiths.
"You're never 'who you are' when you first meet someone."
Unfortunately for me, I tend to be exactly who I truly am -- which is why I am also still irrevocably single. Hehe.
Also -- excellent reaction. You put a lot of thought into how you feel about the music. I appreciate it.
In addition to Max Payne they also appear on many other Remedy games. In Control as an ingame band Old Gods of Asgard.
As a Metalhead I can say Poets Of The Fall is my favorite band even though it's a post grunge/rock band. To me Carnival Of Rust is an audiovisual piece of art. You should check them in live.
You know this is good, when swedish black metal band Shining makes a cover out of this
Yes! Nice reaction. Enjoy your journey exploring their songs!
Probably the most underrated band since the new millenia started...
Late Goodbye was an amazing song! Hearing that for the first time while playing Max Payne opened me up to this band and I've been a fan ever since.
It's an absolutely amazing band. Even their not-close-to-metal songs are absolutely amazing.
Lift is a nice one, locking up the sun is amazing, but also look at False Kings, the brilliance of the lyrics are absolutely smashing.
About this clip.... There is so much symbolism I don't even know where to begin. Yes, they tell two stories, the song and the clip, but also, not completely.
It's absolutely a masterpiece.
Do "Where Do We Draw The Line" by them. It will hit hard...
Poets on the fall ❤❤❤
I hope you've been able to explore some more PotF by now. I totally get your reaction. Mine was much the same when, 4-5 years ago my daughter said she'd found a new band she thought I'd love. By the 3rd song I was entirely hooked and haven't looked back. My personal favorite albums are Temple of Thought, Twilight Theater and Jealous Gods. As was previously mentioned though, each album is different, yet still Poets. I just loved finding what I consider true musicians that wrote real music and lyrics that actually meant something again. Cheers!
I was really hoping I'm not the only metalhead who enjoys POTF
I’m in so in love with this band and this song is a masterpiece.
I’ve always thought this song was a metaphor to the capitalist system. The saviour is money and that the blame part comes from acknowledging the consequences that come with it, the people that suffer from this system. The game avoiding failure is obviously what fuels the system, the reason why people turn a blind eye to the destruction that comes with capitalism. Then, “Enough is not the same it was before” alludes to mass consumption.
Anyway, I loved his reaction! You should listen to “given and denied”, “illusion and dream” and “where do we draw the line”. They’re beautiful songs!
You are the first and only guy, who is honest about this song. You understood the beauty.
You look like a guy I'd be happy to have a beer and a chat with. Great reaction, a great band indeed.
Max Payne 2 is a poem on its own.
A game journalist called it "a ballet of death"
i feel so warm and fuzzy that you liked it so much. i dont feel alone ...😄💜💜💜💜i was like, stop saying u loved it cause im also fangirling and u makin me emotional....😁
I first discovered them back in 2012 (I think) from playing Alan Wake. They are the "Old Gods of Asgard" in the game and once I heard that voice I had to find out who they. Found a few great things from that soundtrack, but these were the best by far!
I was always waiting for them to "get big" on a global scale...but never really happened. Still never hear of them until I go looking. Someday someone will be like "have you heard of Poets of the Fall?" and then I'll know they're where they should be (in people's ears)
Marko Saaresto's command of English is incredible compared to most Finnish speakers and many native English speakers. I heard he started his study and practice of it earlier than most Finns do when his parents worked in the UK for a couple years, but I might be wrong about that.
Some of my favorite PotF songs you might consider reacting to include:
Sleep
Delicious
Sorry Go 'Round
Revolution Roulette
Given and Denied
Dreaming Wide Awake
Smoke and Mirrors
Temple of Thought
Brighter than the Sun
Once Upon a Playground Rainy
The Labyrinth
My Dark Disquiet
The Sweet Escape
It's a bit longer of a list than I might normally write down in one comment, but I'm afraid I don't really have a good feel yet for what kind of music you're most likely to enjoy.
Fantastic song and great reaction video!
Check out their song called Lift. It is even better than this IMO!
Thank you for your reaction! :) I love PotF too, from the very first I heard them some time in...2009? This video is pure art, and this song still gets under my skin, into my very soul, goosebumps every time I hear it.
What an awesome reaction video on my favorite song of my all time favorite band Poets of the Fall.
You nailed it man. After your every comment I was like: "Yes! Spot on!"
POTF have really meaningful lyrics for every single song they have. Trying to decipher them could take days and even weeks, and still you would come up only one interpretation. But their words hit the strings of your heart all the time.
They have plenty of really awesome songs, but I almost sure you will like "Lift" and "King of fools"
I'm a fan of the poets for well over a decade and half now. Try this song called 'War. It was written for a game called 'Alan Wake.' Trust me, you'll love it.
Acoustic version is even better, recently released part of their Alexander Theater series on UA-cam. :D
Playing Alan wake got me introduced to the band
React to Old God of Asgard, a fictional band in Alan Wake by Poets of the Fall. There is no video clip find the track Poet and the Muse, Balance slays the Demon and for another video game Rochard song 'Grinder Blues'. FunFact: They shot the video in 2 days due to budgetary reason about less than 5 people involved.
good choice man.. this song is a masterpiece.
If you watch Live, theres an intro to it telling you about the man in the box between Heaven and Hell.
Also, Lift and Cradled in Love are my other 2 top 3s.
I love your reaction! And I like this band so much!!
Poets are an Awesome Band, You Should react to more of their Songs.
I have many more of them on my list, keep an eye out for them in future videos
Between this and sleep, one of the most unexpected new favourites on my usually extrene meyal Spotify list, so amazing.
can we take a minute to also admire the cinematography? stunning!
You are absolutely right!
Poets OF The Fall is my favorite band of all time. Amazing reaction to a very beautiful song. I really like your interpretations of the lyrics, as well. It seems like everyone has their own meaning after listening to a great song like this. I feel that that really is a great aspect of any song, an appeal to all.
As a massive fan of POTF, I thank you for this fair and great reaction.
I liked how you analysed it nicely.
I'm definitely interested in checking out all of your reactions!
Old Gods of Asgard. Playground. Poets. All of it, I need it.
"this guys voice is phenomenal"...oh you should listen to the live version..its even better
I loved Marko's voice from the first second!!!!!
...the other great classics from POTF you will probably love equally as much are e.g. "Late Goodbye": ua-cam.com/video/AzsiE44Lz_w/v-deo.html and "War": ua-cam.com/video/0f_hewSrAH4/v-deo.html
I first heard of POTF through the game Alan Wake.
Their music become better as you listen, live is even better.
The Visuals are good, gives other levels to the song.
His voice reminds me of a polished version of the guy who sings in Five Finger Death Punch.
Great React! Thnx
Best spot on reaction to the beauty of this song/video. You know deep what every line means but once ya try to verbally explain it, it becomes impossible.
Dude, thanks so much for this. I haven't heard potf in almost 15 years. And boom.
I love that Band. You are great. I was waiting this video!!!
I'm so happy for you! I found POTF in Max Payne 2, and this was the time before spotify and established youtube service... So I would sometimes pop that game into my Xbox, and watch the credits just to listen to them and their first single "Late Goodbye".
Did you ever look up anymore Poets of the Fall? I recommend Daze and Choice Millionaire, great videos to them.
I actually have some more Poets of the fall coming up in a few days.
@@MetalHeadReacts Awesome!
"Cradled in love" by POTF is another great track with amazing lyrical expressions. But just so you know some metal lovers find the song too pop..
I'll certainly look into it, thank you for the suggestion
@@MetalHeadReacts No thank you because i've always been fascinated with their choices of words and wanted to know what others think.
I always took the song as as a loss of insurance and the red cape being santa and the foil being the wrapping on the presents. And as you get old they mean less and less
I could listen to this song for hours... PotF is amazing band.
Have you ever reacted to Dark Sarah? If not, I'd like to ask you to check out Dance wit the Dragon (official video).
I shall add it to my list, thank you for the suggestion.
thanks i was a gamer and listening to them for 16 years .
Maxpayne 2
The music they made for Alan wake is amazing
Awesome, you're seriously just going through my playlist right now. Recommendations if you haven't already -
Amorphis - Brother Moon, Silent Waters
Insomnium - While We Sleep, One for Sorrow
Dark Tranquility - Atoma
Serenity - New Horizons
Borealis - Welcome to Eternity
Starset - Unbecoming
Insomnium - Revelation, too, with that amazing lyric video. Mindblowing.
Loved Your reaction😙🇫🇮
Poets of the fall I see n just click, cus they're just too great a band. Many people don't know hem yet, saddening.
N man, u explained the lyrics so well. Now I understand it much better than before.
Hearing more Poets later! They are one of the best! But each album have almost different style of songs! So prepare for this! The new one and the one before it is more poppy but not mainly.
Discovered this video. Found more. Never heard of them in US. Found all 8 studio albums + 1 Compilation album. Totally addicted.
Check them out under the name old gods of Asgard as well
I really wonder what you'd think of some of their later songs, from albums like Clearview and Jealous Gods. They're very, very different.
For some more amazing lyrics, even though they're all great, you should definitely check out Clevermind. I'm planning on getting the chorus on my car window, it's beautiful
Clevermind is one of my favs from POTF 😊
Coming in a bit late, but I thought I'd pitch in anyway. "Pohjoinen Syke" translates to "Northern Beat" referring a heartbeat or musical beat. Another word would be pulse.
Aaaah awesome, good thing to know, thank you.
@@MetalHeadReacts No problem! And if you're wondering how it's pronounced, Google Translate's listening feature is your friend, and generally excellent for most words. Trying anything bigger, like longer sentences or full-on paragraphs, and it gets an aneurysm.
I owe it to Max Payne introducing me to this incredible band
Ufff, another "react" channel...
Then... wow, that was actually well analyzed. Kudos!
Do their "Cradled in Love" next
It's their best track. Deeply soulful n melancholicly beautiful.
I have a suggestion for you; either "Colder" or "Little Angel" by Charon. (Unfortunately they disbanded years ago, but JP, the singer has an absolutely phenomenal voice; one of my favourite voices ever.)
Big fan of Charon, great band.
@@MetalHeadReacts aha you know of them? Awesome. :) Yeah I love their music. It's fantastic.
@Juha Varis yeessss.✌
Alan Wake was great as well. Loved that game
"Late Goodbye" is how I was exposed to Poets of the Fall. They're now one of my favorite bands.
Thanks god for Max Payne
2nd verse is about life. Trying not to fail with our rules and going around corporate cycle
Another brilliant song about rust: Flowers And Rust by Von Hertzen Brothers
Please check "Cradled in love " by them again ( POETS OF THE FALL')
I always thought they talk about humans destroying the planet.
Well, that's the great thing about good music, it can be open to a variety of interpretations. you take from it what you need.
Right. I too get the idea, that this song is actually telling the girl in the gas mask to wake up, she is mesmerized (why there are these spirals in her lollypop, in the ball throwing tent (which she breaks) and the rollercoaster which is then reflected on the mask lenses.. there are break free texts asking her to wake, the sky is burning and she is asked to feed the rain, to make the world live again, stop believing illusions and entertainment, not walk away, but realize... and she stops at the gate and looks back... she might be realizing the carnival of rust/lust is a distraction.
Long time fan of this band. You should cheap out a band called " the HU " they're different. See what you think
I actually reacted to The Hu a few days ago and loved it.
Great music hitting our land from around the world at the minute. Keep looking dude
where do we draw the line, my fav poets song
Can you do Not Like The Other Girls by The Rasmus?
I like these slower jams from PotF, but I am not so much into their more louder, faster rockish types. I think those miss the mark.
Poets of the Fall has never been something I really like. It was fun to hear all the characters randomly start to humm "late goodbye" in Max Payne 2, but I disliked the song (Of cource some of it was because the damn song was everywhere in Finland for a while). Carnival of rust on the other hand is a track that I absolutely love. I have actually thought to make a roleplaying scenario from this video using everway (or some other more freeform rulesystem)
😍
War is also pretty dope song by them
please react to poets of the fall-daze
I shall add it to my list, thank you for the suggestion.
please react to poets of the fall - war
Shining covered them bro
Who did what now?
@@MetalHeadReacts the band shining covered carnival of rust, not as good as the original but it's a cool spin
@@abyssband6254 i'll have to give it a look at some point
Does he look like a more...chubby Tom Hardy????? Am i the only one????
I'm... I'm not sure if I should be insulted by that or not...
@@MetalHeadReacts Hahahaha...i just said it cause you do look like him... I'm sorry if i offended you in any way...😉😉😉 I mean, i wish i had your looks...
I suggest you NOT trying to bother with names you cannot pronounce in order not to embarrass yourself. Just focus on some facts, that’s it.
