    Prednisone is a versatile medication commonly used for inflammation or immune system problems. It can be prescribed in various dosages, with 50 milligram tablets being less common. Prednisone mimics the body's natural hormone cortisol and is typically taken in the morning. Tapering off prednisone may be necessary for longer courses. Prednisone 50 milligrams can be used for conditions like pneumonia, severe asthma, gout attacks, and more. However, it can also cause side effects such as fluid retention, fat redistribution, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and mood changes. It is important to follow doctor's instructions and manage side effects.

    I’m on 80mg Prednisone, for eight days for an ear infection that led to a sudden SNHL. I have started tapering it off now after eight days as there was a dramatic improvement in my hearing’

    I'm (24m) taking 50mg prednisone for sudden sensorineural hearing loss, 5 days. Overall the treatment felt fine, and I restored some of my hearing back (took treatment after around 2 weeks of initial symptoms). I had to go on 50mg 7 days after three days of ceasing treatment, and my hearing felt as close to normal as possible after this treatment. Fortunately, no side effects, but coming off of it sucked. Definitely felt like I had covid.

    Apart from some of the side effects you mentioned, it also caused major muscle damage to the thighs, which makes walking very painful and difficult.
    It’s been like that for over a year now, with no signs of improving , but in fact getting worse.
    That’s from 2x50ml tablets per day, for a couple of months for asthma.

    I took upwards to 100 mg for an aggressive form of uveitis. My ophthalmologist prescribed 60 mg as my starting dose. I was allowed to increase my prednisone dose "as tolerated" until the eye inflammation responded. I thought my tolerance for 100 mg was good.
    Uveitis can cause blindness so a high dose of prednisone was warranted. The strange side effect I had was euphoria. I told my ophthalmologist how great I felt on 100 mg because I had no need for sleep anymore. I also believed my left eye was a "lost cause" because I couldn't see anything with my left eye.
    When my ophthalmologist asked me if I could take more than 100 mg, I explained that I was feeling great and I "didn't care" that I was blind in my left eye. I was surprised when my ophthalmologist said that I was feeling "too good" and needed to taper my dose down.
    I have multiple autoimmune conditions besides uveitis. I took prednisone for decades but not anymore. My usual daily dose was between 20 and 30 mg.
    Do you have any thoughts about splitting the dose? Instead of taking my whole dose in the morning, I took 2/3 of my total dose in the a.m. and 1/3 in the p.m. Splitting my dose worked much better for me.

I’m supposed to be getting IVIG infusions hopefully soon(Before Feb.). Would you recommend the prednisone plus IVIG thru all my infusions or after infusions taper down? I want off the prednisone so bad. Ugh, Any tips or suggestions?

    I was on prednisone for suspected giant cell arteritis. Testing results came back negative and I was on 20 mg tapering down to one and a quarter mg before I stopped. One of the side effects was my energy level was great and My mood was also great. I have been anti-depressant resistant for years and nothing has worked. I asked my primary doctor about taking this for depression and he said he would have to have me see a psychiatrist because it was out of his wheelhouse. Do you have any experience with this and if so, could you advise me?

    What is the difference between prednisone and Cortef, which is taken for Addison's Disease?

    • @PrednisonePharmacist
      @PrednisonePharmacist  7 місяців тому +1

      Cortef is hydrocortisone, the generic name and prednisone’s brand name is Deltasone. HC runs out of our bodies faster than prednisone so you have to take it 2-4 times a day instead of once a day for prednisone.

      @@PrednisonePharmacist Dr.Megan, I think I could write an entire book about what happened to me. It's hilarious, dramatic and hard to believe... I'm miraculously alive after pituitary apoplexy (I had it while I was writing my master's thesis in geology), followed by adrenal insufficiency, followed by problems with dodgy people (in partly due to the side effects of incorrect prednisone therapy, before switch to hydrocortisone)...
      I made a probabilistic calculation and it is more likely to become pope 🤣.
