The only thing i can think is there'd be no cold war references. The only reason I think it's set in 1984 is because it's referencing the dystopian novel of the same name. But your right. Could've been set in a later date and nothing would really change!
Even the mall action scene was pointless, WW was flying all over the place for basically no reason as all "enemies" (the robbers) were doing nothing, just staring in awe (some with a gun in hand but still not doing a thing with it), and there she is moving and jumping around where she just could have captured them with her lasso in 3 seconds. pointless action scene.
Those types of scenes are in a lot of superhero sequels. This one is one of the worst versions of that scene because the bad guys are so non-threatening.
i liked his acting and his role. It was extremely captivating. It felt like the rest of the cast couldn't keep up with his energy level. Gal seemed like she didn't even enjoy beeing in the movie.
Yeah, this movie had a big problem with the clunky way it delivered exposition. Like how they introduced her golden armor; she might as well have just said “Oh that? Yeah it’s a new costume I’ll be wearing during the finale. Anyway...”
I thought about what he said about how the opening sequence relates to the rest of the story and I disagree, I don't think the shortcut lesson was for Diana I think it was for Lord and minerva. They were trying to get, through a wish, things they could have gotten with hard work and time. What Diana wanted however, she couldn't get any other way.
In BVS, Diana stated that she disappeared from mankind after WW1. A proper sequel would have been an event where Diana had to go back to Themyscira to save someone, which could have explored Diana’s world and the old gods.
I think this movie should've been about Diana and Steve in a James Bond-like story, always away from the public, and Maxwell Lord should've been his comic self: a mind-controlling, self-interested, power-hungry secret agent.
I got to be honest, when I watched the trailer, I thought Steve will be like Bucky in Winter Soldier, got brainwashed by the enemy and Diana get forced to fight him. But, nope! This is just like an episode of Fairly Odd Parents when whenever Timmy making a wish, it's always fucked up and Timmy needs to fix his mistake.
UA-cam *How Gal Godot got ripped to play Wonder Woman* @Anandu Pradeep responded with #1 comment in IMHO "The only one who got ripped are the ones who paid for this movie."
Honestly I thought Hans zimmers score was forgettable It’s like he read the script and went “this ain’t worth my full effort I’m just gonna make some quick music collect my paycheck and leave”
Wait, that was Zimmer? Also for the big flying emotional scene, they didn't even use an original score, they used Sunshine by John Murphy... I have a feeling it was really just Zimmer's underlings doing all the work with his name slapped on it.
Exactly. The background score was a big big letdown. One of the main flaws. It never build up any moment. I found it boring and even grating at times. I don't know and don't care who the Zimmerman is.

@@itsflowerside Even walking tree and talking racoon in GOTG is more logical than this movie. But the movie is so bad its become very entertaining just like the room.
Yeah, they really should have cut that out. Have Max give up his wish which also erases all the wishes he gave. Simpler and more believable then every person on earth giving up their wish. They literally say that it will all be reversed if the stone is destroyed and him revoking his wish is destroying the stone so it even had an in universe explanation lol They just decided to ignore that because they really wanted that cheesy montage of people revoking their wishes.
Well the whole thing is pretty much a Trump allegory, and the filmmakers are engaging in a little wish fulfillment. You see, they wish the country would disavow Trump's false reality.
I think if he wasn't in it I wouldn't have liked it as much. I still enjoyed the movie a lot but I just thought the character was great and just made the movie so much better
What I didn’t like about the movie was that there was no consequences for the villians. Wonder Woman was just like “don’t be bad anymore” and they were like “ok” and that was it.
For real. I was really enjoying it and wondering where it could go. Once Steve came back and Max Lord stole the dreamstone, that’s when I checked out. It felt like they were just trying to fill for time after that first act because this story does not fill the run time of the movie. You could cut this movie to 90 minutes and with some fixes and tweaks it would be loads better.

@@worshipcatalyst1 Not sure how old he was, but we know as of 2016 he had been Batman for at least 20 years. It's safe to say his parents were long dead in 1984. This is the problem with the DCEU. They tried to compete with Marvel's MCU but wanted to have their big Avengers team-up stuff right away instead of putting the groundwork in first. So now the whole thing has splintered and they're churning out standalone films that can't even decide whether or not they're part of a shared universe anymore. The result is an endless stream of uninspired junk that would have been considered passably mediocre 20 years ago, let alone now.
Finally watched it (the movie just recently became available here in Germany). I was kind of primed to hate it from what I'd been hearing, but actually found myself enjoying the first half hour or so quite a lot. The goofiness of the first action scene stayed squarely in Donner territory and thankfully never quite crossed the line into Lester-land, and I felt the movie was getting a lot right about Wonder Woman's character while having a lot of fun with her. I liked Barbara Minerva's character, even though she was kind of a familiar superhero movie villain trope and I enjoyed Pedro Pascal as Max Lord. So I started to feel maybe I'd been misled and this movie was kind of awesome ... But then it started going downhill really quickly. I would've forgiven the problematic return of Steve Trevor if that was all that was wrong with this movie, but there was so much more that broke my enjoyment of it. The plot just fell apart like a Jenga tower and some of the action was just laughably badly staged, which was a real surprise after the first movie and the first couple of scenes of this one. I feel sorry for the cast, because they were all pretty awesome. Gal Gadot remains a brilliant choice to play Wonder Woman, I enjoyed seeing Chris Pine back in this (even if his return was really badly plotted) and Kristen Wiig and Pascal both did a great job with some lame material. Considering that Patty Jenkins has been saying in interviews that this was her own true vision, without any interference from the studio, this is really disappointing. And honestly, I think the studio's public commitment to keeping her on for the next Wonder Woman movie now looks like a mistake.
@@socratese5 you know he wears glasses made out of kryptonian glass which perceives the way people see him. Obviously we know its superman but its harder to notice for the characters in the movie/series/comic
I can't believe the directors, producers, and actors watched a screening of this movie and actually thought it was good enough to release to the public.
I think by the time they had seen the finished product it was too late to change the entire movie (because there were only a few parts of this movie that I would consider worth keeping and the rest should have honestly been scraped). But then again that raises the question of why, before even filming, these people looked at the script and thought “hey this is pretty good”.
My friend keeps defending this movie and I just tell her “hey, Diana sexually assaulted that dude, and you got no problem with that?” She has yet to give a response
i watched the opening scene of the young Diana and was wow this is going to be amazing and from the 10/10 level all went to a 2/10 immediately after the young Diana scene
That scene was so unnecessary and odd. It would have been much more powerful if she was maybe a teenager or something. Not a child. And it was too long. Poorly executed
Dude, you nailed it. I felt something, besides a better script, was missing - the awesome 80’s music. The music would have brought some balance to this movie.
David Callaham one of the three screenwriters on the film (Jenkins, and Geoff Johns the other two) has the 'Doom' film adaptation and all three'The Expendables' films on his resume. I think that says a lot. Jenkin's would have been taking the advice of the other writers who either have DC & Marvel comic book experience or fantasy genre experience as this isn't her forte. Let's not forget Zack Snyder was still a producer on this film as well.

They did show her going home. It's where she went when she first learned to fly. Then they showed her flying to the final battle. As for Cheetah, I don't know why she became Cheetah. Tell me I'm not the only one who died when Steve faintly yelled 'bye Diana, I'll always love you' in the same tone as 'bye buddy, hope you find your dad.'
I agree, but part of that was the setting. Having zero objects for the camera to zoom by (e.g. trees, other cars, cliffs) made it feel slower. The action itself in that sequence was fine but definitely not well thought out to make it look exciting.
Considering no one ever brings up the crazy wish granting and almost world ending nuclear war of 84 either, is another issue for me. I mean, i know the D.C films aren't all interconnected like the Marvel Universe, but there are several films linked into the same timeline and universe, and you would think an incident of that magnitude would have been mentioned at some point or referenced. Just shows lazy writing and respect to the shared universe for me,
Bruce Wayne also says to her in justice league that he'd never heard of her till lately! In ww84 she would be tabloid news due to the mall scene & more! Bit weird!
Just that scene alone i know it was a shit movie. I didn’t finish it. Had porn in another tab and when i was done with that closed tab and came to Chris review.
I'm tired of movies using the "nerdy ugly duckling" cliche. It's trying to tell us that these (people who are gorgeous btw) aren't attractive because they're nerdy. If you saw a woman who looks like Kristen Wiig drop all of her books on the ground, would you be like "nah she's nerdy so I'm not going to help her." Or would you like "OMG let me help this girl who looks like Kristen Wiig." It's not believable that the characters in the movie would treat her so badly in the beginning.
I'm not sold on this take ... As in: it didn't seem to me that those 2 dudes were walking away from helping Wiig because "nerdiness" but rather that their behaviour was in line with a thesis supported by many, many, many other scenes in WW84 - to wit: the male gender are essentially horrible human beings. That through-line supported by the shocking number of scenes where women are sexually harassed and/or assaulted.
How about this: Someone thought the 1984 setting was so important they put it in the movie title. The movie, on the other hand, could have been set in any time frame and it would not have changed a thing. In a movie called Wonder Woman 1984, the 1984 setting is COMPLETELY POINTLESS. I'm slowly starting to realize that they did not actually get a single thing right in this movie. Everything was a miss.
I was just waiting patiently for them to justify setting the movie in that time period but no they didn’t, they could have just avoided it but now they have now contradicted other movies
Maybe it's like how Disney titled their movie "Frozen" because they knew if you typed up Disney + Frozen, their kid's film would pop up instead of results popping up about Walt Disney being cryogenically frozen or whatever. Now that surveillance is getting scrutinized at an all-time high these past few years, people will start to hear more references to George Orwell's "1984" as the comparisons have become uncomfortably similar. This way they can curve curiosity with bombarding search results with a big-selling blockbuster (emphasis on the bust). It's a stretch, it's more of a reason then Marvel is willing to put out right now.
I tell you what I think is funny: these brilliant creatives actually didn't produce this film - it only exists due to poor feedback from test screenings. Something much, much worse was what they were going to foist upon us. Just imagine!
I justified it by thinking Tv broadcasting was still kinda new in 1984 and not 100% mainstream so he used that new power, imagine it was set in 2020 and he used netflix to broadcast his message
@Ruby Barber While I would not qualify 2020 as being an especially good year it 100% had some real benefits, gave me a lot of time to process things I was too busy to really deal with and get over a very long term funk after a bad breakup from a 10 year long relationship. Being locked down forced me to confront and deal with my pain and eventually find peace; so while the year has been a disaster there was some silver lining.
I’m sick to death of people blaming 2020 on all life’s problems. 5 more days of people whinging about it, then they can all start whinging about 2021 life’s problems. It’s a f””g number stop blaming the year on everything. A 20 changing to 21 doesn’t magically change plus covid bullshit started in 2019 why don’t people blame that year ?
Yeah I wanted to love this movie, but holy shit, this is definitely in the top 10 worst superhero movies. Which is hugely disappointing considering it was made in 2020.
When I first saw this movie...I loved it, the message was pretty good and pedro Pascal was fking awesome...but when I started thinking about it again and again...I realise that this movie is devoid of logic and exacly the opposite of feminism...sex without consent is rape....and boys also get raped....someone please tell this thing to patty Jenkins. And all men except Steve trevor is horny and bad idiots...I mean are you serious!!!...this movie is awful...I wanted it to be good...and it's a shame that besides snydercut bieng so good...wb didn't let him continue and approved WW3 within days of ww84
The whole thing was completely forgettable and half-baked, except at the end where I choked up at the cute little boy who just wanted his daddy back. 2/10 because of him and Gal Gadot's accent.
Well in BvS there's a scene where she's in a plane one moment then fully suited and ready to go against Doomsday in like 5 seconds. Makes sense if she flew there. JL has no excuse for the power exclusion
She also apparently now has the ability to cloak anything with sheer willpower. I can't remember, but I imagine there would have been some point where that would have been handy
Superhero comics: if a dead character is resurrected they will be in their original body prior to their death. Wonder Woman 1984: Nah, too unrealistic, let's have Steve Trevor possess some random dude.
"It just makes no fucking sense", yea, this movie was pretty fucking bad. I knew it was gonna be shit when I saw her sliding across the floor in the mall, but what I got was BAD. Just show me Wonder Woman blocking bullets with bracelets and making scumbags admit the truth, holy shit, how do you fuck that up?
One issue I had with the film that wasn’t mentioned was that they took her primary weapons away. Removing her sword and shield really hurt the action scenes. The lasso was ok but after a while I felt it was being overused. It was too much like watching a Spider-Man movie with her swinging around the whole film. Wonder Woman is supposed to be a warrior, and this film didn’t really showcase that compared to the first WW and BvS.
Yup. Start the story at the White House, throw in an extended flashback to explain what made Minerva what she is (George Perez figured something way more interesting and touching for the Cheetah in the 1988 comic reboot) and lets watch Diana fight her, lose, rethink the problem and go after this great villain with sword, shield and renewed attitude. That's the movie I want. Keep Wiig - I honestly think she's the best thing here: the feelings of loss, anger, determination when she fights Diana the first time are all in her eyes. She was the true MVP here, IMHO.
As soon as I saw the trailer, then the first shot of Themiscura and the warriors swringing, i was like oh crap its gonna turn into spiderman Haha all through the mall felt like she can just whip around anywhere now so lame
But actually there are two equally valid versions of WW in the comics and now the movies reflect that. There's the one who uses sword and shield and there's the one who uses the lasso. You can actually look up the characteristic differences and it's pretty neat!
Plot called for it. How can she get hurt is she got that shield? Superhero sequels really like making the hero struggle with their powers. Rami Spider-Man 2, Far From Home, and Wonder Woman 1984.
Was I the only one who saw Diana and 'Cheetah' interacting at the beginning of the movie and thinking damn....they got some good chemistry. I knew Steve was gonna come back, but for a moment I could see it.....the sapphic wonder woman story.....
Okay, but can we talk about the part in the movie where Handsome Dude says, “the snow.. and... so many things...” and Diana goes “so many... many things”... and then they try to sell that as a really profound piece of screenwriting?!?! I CACKLED.
I agree, but I still felt this movie had massive emotional resonance unlike Chris and despite the plot holes I enjoyed it immensely. It did feel a little like 3 different movies folded around each other, but the whole was better than the parts.
The movie should have started with Dream Stone itself. Like showing the last day of Mayan civilization, where people are killing each other, villages are on fire, earthquake, etc. Meanwhile, a bunch of Mayan warriors trying to destroy the Stone but fails, and their Civilization gets wiped out. By this introduction, we know what kinda destruction can happen because of the stone. And instead of Steve weirdy taking someone else body, They should have shown that a World War One German plane appeared in the sky from nowhere and the US military shot it down into the sea. Diana sees the plane wreckage images in the sea and she recognizes the plane in which Steve died. She goes to the wreckage site and finds a remote island nearby. There she finds Steve who's alive and He has no idea how he came there. It would be fun to see Diana bring him back to America into a whole new Civilization on a boat, the same way He brought her in first Wonder Woman.
Honestly, the first part you said about the Mayans was very good. The second part about Steve being on a mysterious island would probably be irrelevant and while it's a nice sentiment, it doesn't add to the movie as whole (the movie is already criticized for being filled with filler). I hope you're the kind of person that takes criticism well.
There has to be some unspoken thing where this dream stone can't just make something out of nothing. It can only affect things that already exist but that's still stupid. Why didn't they just have Steve be Steve?
I guess one explanation is that the stone is supposed to have sort of a cunning characteristic, so if Diana did not specify, the stone would give her the easiest thing to achieve that fits her description of the wish, similar to how the wall in Egypt works. Honestly it is just something that I can suspend my disbelief on and did not bother me much
The movie also had some continuity issues (in BVS, she said she hid for 100 years; in the first movie, her mother didn't find out she was training until she was practically a teenager, but WW84 starts with her as a little kid apparently having been trained; did she forget how to fly in BvS and JL?). And let's not forget that neither Maxwell Lord or Cheetah got their powers from a wish. Look up their origin stories. I. Particular, Cheetah was cursed, and never wanted to be turned into a "creature". This review hit the needle on the head. I'm a mega WW fan (collector and read comics), and it pains me to admit that I am disappointed in this film. WW and Gal deserved better than this.
@@tekiero Exactly! Plus why would she be flying around in BvS or JL after how the world reacted to Superman? Also if she was flying around during the fight with Doomsday it'd be overkill since Supes was already doing that. If she can't fly in Zack Snyder's Justice League in March then it'll be a continuity issue, but Zack already said a while ago that he always intended her to fly in his films eventually.
She said in BvS she'd hid for 100 years, but she carried her suit and sword and shield around for funsies? She was still Wonder Woman, she just clearly wasn't at the forefront of humanity as their champion. Yes they slightly retconned the tone in Wonder Woman to make it lighter but the "100 years" thing never needed to be taken completely literally. The training point is kind of valid, though she wasn't training for battle, was she? It was their olympics basically.
this movie has continuity issues with itself. I am a huge dc/marve fan. cheetah deserved better. I hope the toy sales of asteria's suit were impressive. it came across as an inconvenience to me.
I was very disappointed in Cheetah and the way they made her look. I'm such a big fan of Cheetah and was looking forward to seeing her in the movie. Even in the trailer I was somewhat annoyed. I'm sorry but I don't think Kristen was good for the role.

My biggest question is why was this movie set in the 80's? If you told this exact same story in modern day, would anything be different?
The only thing i can think is there'd be no cold war references. The only reason I think it's set in 1984 is because it's referencing the dystopian novel of the same name. But your right. Could've been set in a later date and nothing would really change!
Excessiveness of the 80s. But they didn't pull it right.

Because that was the birth of true widespread consumerism which I believe was the true villain of the film.
Completely agree. Maybe they hoped it'd interest people more?
Even the mall action scene was pointless, WW was flying all over the place for basically no reason as all "enemies" (the robbers) were doing nothing, just staring in awe (some with a gun in hand but still not doing a thing with it), and there she is moving and jumping around where she just could have captured them with her lasso in 3 seconds. pointless action scene.

They should have told the story of the dream stone in the opening sequence to make it more believeable instead of the young diana sequence.
Yeah, this movie had a big problem with the clunky way it delivered exposition. Like how they introduced her golden armor; she might as well have just said “Oh that? Yeah it’s a new costume I’ll be wearing during the finale. Anyway...”
The young Diana part was the best bit of the whole movie.
that's actually smart, i hadn't thought of that
I thought about what he said about how the opening sequence relates to the rest of the story and I disagree, I don't think the shortcut lesson was for Diana I think it was for Lord and minerva.

@Mackie Messer A shame they missed a good opportunity for that

The most unrealistic part about the movie is when everyone revoked their wish. Look at 2020. That's not happening.
Yeah, they really should have cut that out. Have Max give up his wish which also erases all the wishes he gave. Simpler and more believable then every person on earth giving up their wish.

Just that scene alone i know it was a shit movie. I didn’t finish it. Had porn in another tab and when i was done with that closed tab and came to Chris review.

@@Joshua-fr1xp where's the shame in that
I'm tired of movies using the "nerdy ugly duckling" cliche.
Windspast Kristen Wiig is below average looking at best😁😁😁😁
@@barnabydwhiteaustin9223 Clowning nerds is still a stupid and outdated trope, no matter what the actor or actress playing them looks like.
@@hep_fulla_pep it’s also very much an 80s trope which is what the movie tried to recreate.
@@hep_fulla_pep This movie went too far with the clumsy-nerd stereotype. Also Kristin Wiig is a beautiful woman, certainly above average.
@@mymemories7108 No one thought of TV as anything close to "new" in 1984. Watching TV became commonplace in the 1950s.

@Ruby Barber glad thinks worked out for you

Your score is very generous.
The Wonder Woman remake I'd want to see is one that stayed true to the original comics, with the S&M bondage.
Accent? Are you serious? 😅
@@whereisezraa5825 lol right it’s terrible! Plus she can’t act
Just the fact she flies in 84 and by the time she meets Batman and Superman she can’t 😅
EXACTLY. I said the same thing with a friend of mine
Well in BvS there's a scene where she's in a plane one moment then fully suited and ready to go against Doomsday in like 5 seconds. Makes sense if she flew there. JL has no excuse for the power exclusion
The DC universe was not a well thought out operation which is why there are missing links.
She also apparently now has the ability to cloak anything with sheer willpower. I can't remember, but I imagine there would have been some point where that would have been handy

Lmao
The sword is too phallic.
Plot called for it. How can she get hurt is she got that shield? Superhero sequels really like making the hero struggle with their powers. Rami Spider-Man 2, Far From Home, and Wonder Woman 1984.

Now that Chris Stuckmann pointed them out, the plot holes are glaringly huge.

I agree, but I still felt this movie had massive emotional resonance unlike Chris and despite the plot holes I enjoyed it immensely.
It did feel a little like 3 different movies folded around each other, but the whole was better than the parts.
@@gamelairtim I likewise agree. This movie had MANY problems, but I still liked the earnestness of it
The movie should have started with Dream Stone itself.
I hope you're the kind of person that takes criticism well.
this is so much better
yup but inside we get a lame ass opening with her as a kid that should of been in the first movie.
Your comment was more exciting than the whole movie script
Yeah you lost me on the second part but the first part was really interesting.
The world: *about to end*
Me: wait couldn’t someone just wish for the man not to be a wishing stone and this could all be over-
There has to be some unspoken thing where this dream stone can't just make something out of nothing. It can only affect things that already exist but that's still stupid. Why didn't they just have Steve be Steve?
Or have him comeback as his corpse. Zombie or skeleton like?
Because then they wouldn’t be able to steal from Meet Joe Black.
I guess one explanation is that the stone is supposed to have sort of a cunning characteristic, so if Diana did not specify, the stone would give her the easiest thing to achieve that fits her description of the wish, similar to how the wall in Egypt works. Honestly it is just something that I can suspend my disbelief on and did not bother me much
Because this dream stone is not the reality stone, it's more like an illusion trick to fool the man to believe he's Steve.
@@BoChan0624 Who cares.

They were at least trying.
WW and Gal deserved better than this.
but she flied in BVs and Jl. She did some appearing things out of nowehre, so probably use flying abilities.
Okay, you can change some already established things in prequels, but only if they make sense.
I was very disappointed in Cheetah and the way they made her look. I'm such a big fan of Cheetah and was looking forward to seeing her in the movie. Even in the trailer I was somewhat annoyed. I'm sorry but I don't think Kristen was good for the role.
