I used to go up and down crushed rock driveway every spring to build up thick skin on soles of my feet so I could go barefoot all summer.

Will foot peels and masks reverse the progress? Does the skin needs to be tougher as well? Or Is this developing nerve tolerance?

I'm a fan of calluses - they offer protection and your body creates them for a reason, especially when they cover a large amount of the foot surface which is what happens when a foot walks (well) barefoot a lot. However as you say, walking barefoot more will develop nervous system tolerance so it decreases sensitivity - and as you increase mobility, it's easier to walk on very uneven surfaces too - so I don't really know to what degree the skin texture alone is going to affect your sensation but it's certainly not the only factor.

Hard ball like a golf ball? Or softer?

Depends on your feet, something really hard can be too intense for some people so you may prefer to start with something like a tennis ball or a pinky ball and gradually decrease size and increase hardness

How long does it take to adapt? It still hurts. Whole feet at the end of the day, but especially the achilles. I've been barefoot for 4 months now and my achilles tendon still hurts at the bunion above my heel. The doctor said it was overuse or from the shoe, like a haglund, but no bone changes, and that stretching would help, but it didn't. It hurts to walk barefoot up the rocks. How to cure it? I'm only 28 and I don't want to have this pain forever

Depends on you, really. 4 months is a really short time and it sounds like your body is telling you it's too much although I can't tell from what you're writing if the tendon stuff happened before or after your transition. Literally you've had 27.5 years in shoes, 4 months is nothing so be patient and do more exercises. I'd also try a more cushioned shoe for now, like Altras. For Achilles tendon stuff you should get assessed to get a clear diagnosis, but in general you're going to need to load it and it will take time and hard work to rehab correctly but it's worth taking the time to do it right. You def will not have this pain forever but you should back off and listen to what your body is telling you.

I can’t walk on rock anymore because I walked on hot concrete at the pool 4 days in a row and now my feet have became very sensitive.
